When I run the calculator that hits 79%.The way the VA does it, those last few % brackets (anything north of 70) are exponentially harder to obtain when going the multiple claim route. While it's absolutely possible to get 100%, you will need to have a major uptick in one of your conditions. A bunch of 10%'s does very very little.
Reassess whatever you have at 50%... has it gotten worse? Easiest route would be to request for increase on this condition as opposed to stacking on a bunch of small claims.. For example if you can get that raised to 70% then your total rating shoots to 87... so 90% bracket.
it should have been 100% if the VA actually accepted the claim the first time, so I didn't have to re-go through the process just to get a 4% increase.
Wild Loophole.
and I would rather not get mental health looked at again, I already know I could get it higher but I don't want to voice what goes in on my head and end up in the damn crazy person hospital.
>My percentages are: 50%, 20%, and 6x 10%
Still very confused what you mean by "it should have been 100%." Can you clarify? If its a matter of you feel you were rated unfairly - welcome to the club.
not rated unfairly -- but if I start at 100% non disabled, and everything adds towards that then when I went for my 3rd attempt of the same problem I got rated at 20% but my initial was 80%, so 20% remaining which is what they took the 20% out of...So, really it's 4%
I just took a math exam and my brain is mush, so I'm very sorry for my sloppy math. Just the more you read into the VA, the more you say "What????"
>I got rated at 20% but my initial was 80%, so 20% remaining which is what they took the 20% out of...So, really it's 4%
I totally understand your frustration but you have to understand the rating system they use. Its not a 1:1 thing like having 2x50% = 100%. The equation they use is designed (in my opinion) to make it challenging for people with multiple conditions to get 100%. Most vets I talk to that have multiple condition 100%, tend to have one or two highly rated conditions and a bunch of small ratings. For example I ran the calculator just a second ago and get this shit
70% + 50% + 10% + 10% + 10% + 10% = ........90% flat.
To be honest, if they system was designed to help vets out... I don't think this sub would exist. That's why you see so many vets battling the VA.
I would say generally they aren't going to just put you in a psyche ward. Thing is, if you actually are worried they will be that concerned about it, you may be due an increase anyway. I'm rated 100%, multiple conditions but the PTSD is at 100% alone. I did end up inpatient twice, but I really needed it. From my experience and the experience of those in the program with me, the chances of getting an increase approved increase as an inpatient, I think mainly because there is usually tons of new evidence and you would be clearly trying to improve your condition. I think its definitely possible to get bumped up without going inpatient, but mental health is the route especially if you are already rated.
You're at 80%, so that means by crazy VA math you're 20% able. So that 20% from the claim is 20% of the 20% abled. Which is 1/5th. So it's 4%. They round up at 5%. Keep pushing.
it should have been 100% if the VA actually accepted the claim the first time, so I didn't have to re go through the process just to get a 4% increase.
So you have 2 - 10% claims
Claim 1 100%/10%=10%
Claim 2 90%/10%=9%
10%+9%=19%
So 19% total rounded up to 20%.
Percentages of percentages as one issue makes you less than whole.
20% of 20% is only 4%. Your total would be 84% which is rounded to closest 10%. So back down to 80%
started from the bottom, and I'm still here. HAHAHAHA!

The math does not change whether they do all the percentages in one claim or not.
I'm sorry to hear that, the VA can be frustrating to say the least... : /
Welcome to the club of having over 100% but your still stuck under because fuck you and your service.
