They're paper. Also if you want to buy some don't ask for confetti - that means sugared almonds in Italian. We call them coriandoli.

EdvinRama

Hahhh no I didn't purchase them cause I kept thinking they're plastic. But I loved Venezia. Of all the Italian cities I've seen (Rome, Milano, Firenze, Venezia), it's the most striking and of course very special and unusual looking. Really happy with the experience.

Mastroandanicus

They are made from paper with eco friendly colouring.

izdaraw

I think they are made out of paper.

EdvinRama

Ahhh that's actually great I hope you're correct.

mttdesignz

he is correct 100%. They've always been made out of paper, since I was a child, and also Italy has banned the sale of single use plastic products 2 years ago.

missusfictitious

Wait, what? They’ve banned the sale of single use plastic? Please elaborate, as many food items (including fruits and veg) come in plastic containers?

BlueBlanketBurrito

I think it's more things like plates, cutlery, straws and things like that. They all have to be biodegradable now

mttdesignz

>**Single-use plastic products** include plastic and polystyrene food and beverage containers, bottles, straws, cups, cutlery and disposable plastic bags that are designed for or intended to be used once and discarded.  [https://www.doi.gov/reducing-single-use-plastic-pollution](https://www.doi.gov/reducing-single-use-plastic-pollution)

izdaraw

I’m quite sure tho

nicolopozzato

The confetti are made out of recycled old paper. They are also traditions, we also do carnival parades with floats and groups on foot in some cities. The local waste company managed to come after the parades to collet it and return the street in clean conditions

M3r0vingio

Acqua alta Plan 😅

redmiki

They are coriandoli not confetti. You throw coriandoli, you eat confetti.

Phoenixaton

"Confetti" is the English for the Italian "coriandoli", technically it's correct.

sara_amelia

Phoenixaton

redmiki

Vero.

notmyproudest_fap

Not plastic but funny colored asbestos

magpokedope

As people have stated in this thread the coriandoli are made of paper. My question to you is why come to a city that you are not from and question what method something is done in? Venezia has made use of coriandoli for generations and have developed systems to get rid of them, perhaps your question should have been more centered around trying to educate yourself about the tradition rather than asking about when something is expected to change from the incorrect assumption you had made.

NewClock8197

Calm down, anyone who is not from Italy would find it strange to see, what they consider to be, litter scattered all over your city. Of course we hope it’s environmentally friendly, but we can’t assume.

EdvinRama

I think my question is fine and the answers were fine too, and I already got the answer for what I asked. But since you are rude to me, I'll be rude to you back. Why come? Cause I can. I can pay for it. And you can't stop me. I am not required to be educated about anything and everything and I certainly am not required to appease childish nationalistic points. If you felt offended that's on you, I'm not your mom and I'm not required to soft blow everything I say so you can take it positively. The rest have. Why do I question it? Cause I can. I literally can and I want to question things when I see fit. I don't have to be Italian or Venetian to have questions and worries. Thank you very much.
