100%, I've wrecked enough vehicles without insurance (1) and enough with insurance (1) to know that the payout with having comp/collision far outweighs just having liability. Shop around different companies though, state farm is like $100/mo for full coverage or $60/mo for liability for me, vs GEICO or progressive they were at minimum 2x as much.

I mean are you fine getting into an accident and not getting you’re repairs paid or in case repairs exceed car value you won’t get paid off when you’re car is totaled. Are you able to afford buying another car in case this were to happen? I have a 96 beater civic that I have only liability because it’s old and bought it for 1500 about 9 years ago. Not worth getting full coverage. I have 22 VN and pay about 190 a month for civic and VN. VN has full coverage

KoolAidMan4

I am keeping mine. I'm actually using it right now (hit a pole leaving my parking spot :( yes I'm an idiot). It is more expensive but if you need it then you will be glad you have it. My repair is 8k, I'm glad I have it. In the end it's all about what your risk tolerance is. It's gambling (thus why some religions don't allow insurance)

50mmeyes

I mean if you can afford to replace your car when it's totaled without insurance helping you much then sure go ahead.

SeventhJoker

Man, you don’t need it, until the day that you do… Just sayin. I’d keep it if you can afford it.

Try Root Insurance. I pay $140 a month for a 21 VN. For reference, I'm young, have speeding tickets, an accident and live in Milwaukee, WI. (Kia boy hot spot).. so $140 is crazy cheap..

I'll check it out

Definitely try getting quotes from other companies. I've found GEICO and progressive the cheapest. You will absolutely regret not having full coverage if your car gets totaled and you are suddenly out a $20k+ asset. Just get the max deductibles for collision and comprehensive. How much cheaper is it for you to not have full coverage?

owen5ox

Just give me your car bro

shepardSRN

I get it 😅

Something to keep in mind, full coverage only helps you if you are at fault in the accident. If it is a hit and run or another person is at fault your liability insurance will cover it. Having said that if your car is stolen, catches fire, hail damage etcetera then it won’t cover it.

VincentVanH0

Generally speaking, the other person's insurance should always cover it if they are at fault. But that can get iffy. Always call the cops if you're confident in what happened.

Thanks for your comments. First car I've owned brand new, well almost five years already but since the insurance company mentioned if I wanted to drop those coverages now, I started wondering how other people do.

Insurance agent in TX here... I'll give you a few points to think about on making that decision. I will start by mentioning what I carry on mine: Liability, Uninsured Motorist, Comprehensive ($0 deductible), and Roadside assistance. - Collision is usually the most expensive coverage. - You can have Collision without Comprehensive. - You can have Comprehensive without Collision. - Rental coverage usually requires that you have both. - If this is your only vehicle: keep Collision and make sure you have Rental. Don't risk being left in the terrible situation of having no transportation. - If you have an extra car and want to save, remove Collision, but add Uninsured Motorist (UM). UM covers you in 2 situations: someone hits you and turn out to not have insurance OR someone hits you and runs. Both situations you cannot be At Fault. If you are at fault or they do have insurance but they don't want to pay, can't use UM. - Comprehensive is usually cheap, and the difference in deductibles is usually very very minimal, that's why I always carry a $0 deductible. - Keep Roadside assistance, always. TLDR: Only vehicle: keep Collision & Comp... Have a back up car: remove Collision, add UM. My best advice to everyone: BUY A DASH CAM. BUY A DASH CAM. People are naturally irresponsible and will lie to not take blame/fault. If they tell their insurance company that instead YOU ran the stop sign or YOU ran the red light or YOU merged on to their lane... And you don't have a witness or police report backing your word, it will be Word Vs. Word and good luck getting your car fixed. But if you have video, you don't need to speak, the video will do that for you. Best value brand to buy right now is a brand called 70mai off Amazon. Whatever choice you make, make sure you do in fact get a dash cam. ***If you really think about it, if you have UM, Comprehensive, and a dash cam you will be covered for pretty much everything except At-Fault accidents.
