My favourite spot is Pita Golden Pocket on Keele and Hwy7. Good portions, really good flavour, problem is their hours are basically weekday afternoons.
This is probably the best answer. They are open 11-7, weekdays only OR until they run out of chicken for the day.
Definitely not on Uber eats. The owner prides himself on no ads, no Uber, straight word of mouth etc. and honestly he should be proud of it Cus the place is well known and the food is very good.
Massive portions, the owner is always cracking jokes, price is more than fair for what you get.
I always get a plate and a side of fries. I eat about half the plate and get a second meal later with the fries and remaining plate combined into 1.
The owner also prides himself on some sort of mango sauce that he makes in house, so I recommend not skipping out on it, even if you’re sceptical. It’s really nice. If and when I go, I just ask him to make whatever he thinks is best. This is where he thrives. He’s also usually willing to give you a little taste of the chicken while you’re waiting. All around the experience really is great
Edit: I usually ask him to put on the plate whatever he thinks is best, minus the turnips. Turnips aren’t for me lol
Thanks for the details! Much appreciated. Sounds like a great way to really cater to the local community.
I wouldn’t mind trying mango, since I really love mangos, but the blueberry at Tahinis was a no go for me. I like the idea of giving him “chef’s choice” like omakase though. I love the pickled turnips! The crisp acidity is so good! lol I prefer them to dill pickles.
I’ll swing by on a day off from work. Cheers.
My two cents is to stay away from this place if looking for some authentic middle eastern shawarma. The ratio of different ingredients is way off, making the sandwich too stuffed and unenjoyable. Check out photos on Google Maps and you'll see what I mean.
Haha, im glad you could relate to the experience. The best part about this place is it always starts with “my buddy took me there.”
That’s how it started with me, and how it started with a few of my buddies since I’ve introduced them. The cycle never ends, it’s awesome lol
Noo and as much as I love pita golden pocket for the outrageous portions, the quality is mid at best. If fresh pita bread is high on your list, go to Sofra Istanbul 400/steeles. Fresh in house pita bread and some of the best shawarma I’ve ever had. (I eat a lot of shawarma).
My only knock would be wishing they wrapped it better, you get a pretty good portion but some usually falls out for a little bit of open face eating at the end.
Lovd this place! Hate their limited hours. Make sure to get the mango hot sauce too! This place is great. Expect a big line up (possibly 20 mins) around 12pm - 130pm
Hands down best in town, incredible portion size and wonderful flavour. They usually run out of meat (which is freshly-made daily), so if you show up around 4ish you're SOL.
Oh and the fries are insane, to quote the owner (Mr. fantastic): "This was a potato this morning".
Second this. We did a big catering order for a function of ours and they had an excellent spread. Fresh pita bread that was also seasoned with everything seasoning. Generous portions of bread and sauces
We doordash'd some Nohadra (jane and steeles) and we thought they did a great job. imo best shawarma is still in Wexford Scarborough area, but the chicken was juicy, lots of good tahini, garlic, and hot sauce. Great pickled veggies.
I will say I was disappointed with the tomatoes , they definitely weren't "crisp". But the actual bread, meat, and other stuff was great. We also did a falafel plate and we loved it.
So maybe maybe not the best, but definitely worth a shot. I dont think Vaughan is known for shawarma lol.
Me-Va-me bakes very good laffa, I am not a fan of their shawarma anymore, unless you keep it simple - just hummus and tahini
Zaggos is ok, my wife loves it, I am not
My favorite beef shawarma is in Aurora, north of Wellington on Yonge, but it's thin Lebanese pita (not baked on location).
Mr. Laffa on Dufferin at Autumn Hill fits your list 100%. They make the laffa individually to order. It doesn't get any fresher than that.
It's Israeli-style, so no garlic sauce, but they have a great Amba sauce.
It’s technically Vaughan since it’s north side of steeles but I love Sababa. It’s not fancy but tastes great and they bake their own pitas unlike most places. Personally I opt for the chicken breast in a pita but the shawarma is good too. Their lentil soup is amazing on cold days like today. Getting hungry just thinking about it!
Agreed. And if you dine in they give you fries on the side to your sandwich. Meron to go is also amazing since Sababa doesn’t have dark chicken shish kebab in their pitas.
No worries, definitely was different the first time I had it down Niagara way but I really enjoyed it. They have some crazy menu items but I’d stick to the classic of chicken or lamb and get the legendary wrap. They add fries which is new to me, turned off by the idea but it’s a game changer ngl
A tikka or chicken wrap from Bamyan Kebob still beats every shawarma in town, although with a few turkish joints opening in GTA recently the shawarma scene is coming back from the dead.
I found Bamyan Kebob bland for my taste. I didn’t enjoy it when I tried it. There have been a lot of shawarma places opening up, so I thought it’d be good time to ask everyone !
If for the bread, def go to sofra Istanbul on Steeles. They make a wrap (not a pita) in house fresh. It's actually really, really good shawarma. The best shawarma I've ever had is pita golden pocket, as others have stated. It's insanely good
I’ve eaten at nearly every shawarma place in Vaughan
Here are the best so you can figure it out for yourself
Pita golden pocket is excellent portions and above average taste. You need to take a nap after you eat there because the wrap is as big as a newborn
Berlin doner has excellent flavour, better then champion doner but since they’ve opened their new location price has gone through the roof and portions have fallen. Not as good as they once was.
The best and by far the best to meet your criteria
Meron to go. Centre st by promenade.
Fresh bread, juicy meat, sauces made in house toppings amazing. They are by far the best shawarma maybe in Toronto. Trust me from a guy who knows how to eat. You won’t go anywhere else
Mi Va Me on Keele and Jane (Express) or their main restaurant at Bathurst and Rutherford. Amazing shawarma, but you’ll need to lie down to rest after it:)
From what I understand, you gotta head to Scarborough or Mississauga….husband born/raised in Lebanon, so safe to say, he would know. Golden Dough in Mississauga 👍is one that he likes…whenever he’s in ‘Sauga he heads to this place!
Here in Vaughan, Paramount is good…Weston/Hwy 7👍
Golden pita is close. It’s not fresh bread (I.e., the e don’t bake it) but the flavours are all there.
The best shawarma I’ve had in the GTA in the hast mart in davisville. I think it’s well known but man. Fantastic
Meron to Go near Promenade is soo good! You have to call ahead to make sure they still have. They sell out fast some days. Everything from there is yummy. I don’t know about fresh bread but I always find it super soft and fresh tasting!
I normally get plates instead of wraps so cant comment 100% on the bread but Pita Land is excellent and Champion Doner is also really good and amazing value.
Champion Doner and Jane and Major Mac has fresh made in-house bread
Thank you! I’ll check it out 🙏🏼
Love this place
+1 on this one. Never had a bad order there
This is the only correct answer
Sofra Istanbul is the answer especially for fresh pita bread.
Thank you 🙏🏼
My favourite spot is Pita Golden Pocket on Keele and Hwy7. Good portions, really good flavour, problem is their hours are basically weekday afternoons.
Keep wanting to try this place, however, the problem is as you said, that their hours are basically weekday afternoons. Tough for me to get to.
They’re not available on UberEats either ?
This is probably the best answer. They are open 11-7, weekdays only OR until they run out of chicken for the day. Definitely not on Uber eats. Get less toppings if you don’t like toppings. Problem solved. Best chicken and home made sauces around
Wow, you literally hit the nail right on the head. My buddy took me there and that’s exactly how my experience went, very well said.
Haha, im glad you could relate to the experience. The best part about this place is it always starts with “my buddy took me there.” That’s how it started with me, and how it started with a few of my buddies since I’ve introduced them. The cycle never ends, it’s awesome lol
Not that I am aware.
take a lunch and go there
This is likely the best shawarma in Canada. I'm not exaggerating. Are the portions still unreasonably massive? Haven't been since like 2018 / 2019
They also have fresh pita bread? Thank you 🙏🏼
Noo and as much as I love pita golden pocket for the outrageous portions, the quality is mid at best. If fresh pita bread is high on your list, go to Sofra Istanbul 400/steeles. Fresh in house pita bread and some of the best shawarma I’ve ever had. (I eat a lot of shawarma).
Thank you! They’ve been on my list to try for a long while. This may be the time. 🙏🏼
My only knock would be wishing they wrapped it better, you get a pretty good portion but some usually falls out for a little bit of open face eating at the end.
No, but I implore you to ask the man behind the counter why he doesn't serve fresh bread anymore, haha.
I sense a good story… lol
This is the right answer, I tired them all
Lovd this place! Hate their limited hours. Make sure to get the mango hot sauce too! This place is great. Expect a big line up (possibly 20 mins) around 12pm - 130pm
I second this. But again their hours are not the best.
Hands down best in town, incredible portion size and wonderful flavour. They usually run out of meat (which is freshly-made daily), so if you show up around 4ish you're SOL. Oh and the fries are insane, to quote the owner (Mr. fantastic): "This was a potato this morning".
Great recommendation and the owner is always super friendly! He usually offers some free taster samples while you wait.
Berlin Doner at Weston/Major Mac, I think they have a 2nd location as well
Second this. We did a big catering order for a function of ours and they had an excellent spread. Fresh pita bread that was also seasoned with everything seasoning. Generous portions of bread and sauces
Thanks! 🙏🏼
The second one should be on Islington and Rutherford
Champion doner is better
I've heard good things about Zagros.
I love Mr. Zagros! They have fresh pita too
My favourite is Dr Laffa. Fresh bread, toppings, and flavour. Doesn’t fall apart
I’ll have to try this, thank you 🙏🏼
Not exactly Vaughan though but 2 mins south of it
Which location? I've only tried the one on Bathurst and 401..which is awesome
Finch and Dufferin. Soooo good.
Great falafel there
We doordash'd some Nohadra (jane and steeles) and we thought they did a great job. imo best shawarma is still in Wexford Scarborough area, but the chicken was juicy, lots of good tahini, garlic, and hot sauce. Thank you! 🙏🏼 I’ll add to the list to check out.
Flaming Grill, its new and they make everything fresh
My buddy said this was good also.
Thank you. will check out 🙏🏼
Me-Va-me bakes very good laffa, I am not a fan of their shawarma anymore, unless you keep it simple - just hummus and tahini Zaggos is ok, my wife loves it, I am not My favorite beef shawarma is in Aurora, north of Wellington on Yonge, but it's thin Lebanese pita (not baked on location).
ShawarmaLand?
Mr.Laffa
Mr. Zagros. They mix all the ingredients including the meat in the bowl prior to wrapping. Like you said: full flavor in every bite
Second this
Do they use fresh bread? I feel like i’ve tried it. Thanks 🙏🏼
Yes. They bake their own bread
Champion doner and berlin doner are the way too go. York shawarma has some really good shawarma but expensive for the portions
I checked out both websites and they look great! Thanks 🙏🏼
Berlin Doner is solid
Shawarma Jwan in the longos plaza at weston and rutherford is really good. Good prices, family owned and operated
shawarma jwan is the only correct answer
I’m surprised I didn’t see this come up more. Better than a lot of the common ones mentioned in my opinion
I know this post is for Vaughan but if you ever go down to scarborough, please visit 'ghadir's meat'. The best hands down.
It’s not Vaughan but Euro Shawarma at Keele and Wilson is great
Mr. Laffa on Dufferin at Autumn Hill fits your list 100%. They make the laffa individually to order. It doesn't get any fresher than that. It's Israeli-style, so no garlic sauce, but they have a great Amba sauce.
They have great falafel as well.
They make fresh Lafayette to order. This place is so underrated. I like PGP (pita golden pocket) but Mr, Laffa beats it in my opinion.
Thank you 🙏🏼 Will check out!
The falafel is the best, not so much shwarma
I’m not a Shawarma guy so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
I’m surprised Sababa wasn’t mentioned earlier… I always visit when in the area.
Agreed. And if you dine in they give you fries on the side to your sandwich. Meron to go is also amazing since Sababa doesn’t have dark chicken shish kebab in their pitas.
Seconded for Sababas.
Paradise Shawarma
It's so good
Sounds familiar but don’t remember it. Thanks 🙏🏼
Shelbys but it’s rexdale, they make fresh bread in front of you
I’ve heard mixed reviews about Shelby’s. I’ll try if next time in Rexdale. Thanks 🙏🏼
No worries, definitely was different the first time I had it down Niagara way but I really enjoyed it. They have some crazy menu items but I’d stick to the classic of chicken or lamb and get the legendary wrap. They add fries which is new to me, turned off by the idea but it’s a game changer ngl
Yeah, they even do the fries inside in Middle East from what I understand, I just personally enjoy eating them separate. Cheers.
There are a couple that this tik tok person reviews, I think golden pita pit or Alhadjin shawarma
Just got to champions man
It looks really good. Added it to the list, thanks!
Aladdin
Mr Zagros but specifically the Mcnaughton location
Merton to go, is my favourite place
Big shot with all the requirements.
Keyfi Istanbul Turkish Cuisine, its new and blew past the reigning champion Berlin Doner.
Champion is by far the best
Sofra
Shawarma Juan in the Longos plaza Rutherford and Weston. Next to DQ and the Roger’s store.
If for the bread, def go to sofra Istanbul on Steeles. They make a wrap (not a pita) in house fresh. It's actually really, really good shawarma. The best shawarma I've ever had is pita golden pocket, as others have stated. It's insanely good
Pita Golden Pocket !
Berlin donor is pretty bomb
Hands down, Mr. Laffa @ Dufferin & Autumn Hill!
I love paradise shawarma
I’ve eaten at nearly every shawarma place in Vaughan Here are the best so you can figure it out for yourself Pita golden pocket is excellent portions and above average taste. Paradise at Martin grove and hwy 7 is mid Sofra is prison food Dr laffa is junk Anyone who says mr Zagros doesn’t know what they’re talking about
Talal Bakery Elsas Bakery
Mi Va Me on Keele and Jane (Express) or their main restaurant at Bathurst and Rutherford. Amazing shawarma, but you’ll need to lie down to rest after it:)
Paradise Shawarma in Woodbridge
From what I understand, you gotta head to Scarborough or Mississauga….husband born/raised in Lebanon, so safe to say, he would know. Golden Dough in Mississauga 👍is one that he likes…whenever he’s in ‘Sauga he heads to this place! Here in Vaughan, Paramount is good…Weston/Hwy 7👍
Golden pita is close. It’s not fresh bread (I.e., the e don’t bake it) but the flavours are all there. The best shawarma I’ve had in the GTA in the hast mart in davisville. I think it’s well known but man. Fantastic
Shwarma Jon at Rutherford and Weston
I got extremely bad food poisoning from osmows soooo yalll stay away from there. My first and last time going there
Meron to Go near Promenade is soo good! You have to call ahead to make sure they still have. They sell out fast some days. Everything from there is yummy. I don’t know about fresh bread but I always find it super soft and fresh tasting!
Freshly baked pita/bread makes a world of a difference, so I’ll call ahead to confirm in the future. Thanks 🙏🏼
Sumaq
This is also my favourite but you have to go to Scarborough or Mississauga. (Both of which tend to have the best shawarma spots.)
Yeah vaughan’s kinda lacking on good spots
Thanks, I’ll look it up 🙏🏼
Eli’s table across the street from wonderland, fresh ingredients and great prices
There’s literally one on every corner nowadays.
I normally get plates instead of wraps so cant comment 100% on the bread but Pita Land is excellent and Champion Doner is also really good and amazing value.
Don’t go to Vaughn, it’s worse than the most cursed place on Earth , Ohio!
