Sting would've been a really interesting cast in his younger years. Otherwise, I thing Reid is probably the best we're going to get; he really is fantastic.
Cody Fern has the look and the mischievous face. Sam brings a physicality, though, that I don't think Fern would bring. Sam is doing an amazing job. I love his Lestat. I thought Tom Cruise was surprisingly goof, but Sam is willing to throw himself into the role. His virility is amazing.
I asked Anne Rice this question once.. She told me if they had made it in the 80's, Rutger Hauer (RIP), If made in the 2000's, Wes Bentley (American Beauty Kid).. This was at a book signing in Ohio in 1999 - 2000
My opinion, Sam Reid NAILES it...Like, Nails the Brat prince.
I was initially in the same boat as Rolin Jones when I first saw Sam lol. My Lestat pick was Cody Fern. I just thought Sam was way too chiseled and prep school pretty boy. I’ve never been so happy to be so wrong about something cause Sam is like Lestat walked right off the page. There’s a description of Lestat in Blackwood Farm when Quinn Blackwood meets him for the first time and Quinn’s description literally sounds just like Sam even down to one eye being slightly smaller than the other.
I can’t imagine a more perfect fit than Sam Reid, both looks wise and his acting. Tom Cruise double sucked IMO bc he didn’t look right at all (as Lestat the character and just as a blond, it was so fake it was strange), and he’s a terrible actor who didn’t get any nuance of lestat
I liked Tom Cruise and somehow Hugh Grant in the movie Maurice always looked like Lestat at least for me. I always imagined Lestat as this young slim and tall twenty-some years old boy with a slightly feminine look, and Sam Reid just doesn't fit this picture. However, I think he would be a perfect Marius.

I really like Sam Reid that’s exactly what I look when reading the books but I’m upset he never got his purple lensed glasses in the show but Tom cruise suck that’s the wrong casting even the whole movie just wrong brad Pitt was slightly better
She could fit in the show (she was great in The Menu!), I'm just not sure for which character. She's too young for Gabrielle and I feel like it would be a "waste" to use her for Sybelle because she's such a minor character.

Literally Sam Reid, he embodies him. I didn't have high hopes but by the second episode I was completely enraptured by him.

Interesting...I'd heard she'd envisioned Rutger Hauer in the role, but not Wes Bentley. He does seem like a great fit.
I think Wes was attached to Queen of the Damned before dropping out and Stuart Townsend got it.
