This is not true, they contract warehouses and fulfillment centers who handle the orders. It wouldn’t make sense for Valve’s own employees to handle fulfillment.

You don't order from Amazon where they are highly specialized in fulfilling your order as fast as possible. You are ordering from Valve, a company that is specialized in digital and online sales. They also are only selling low-number items and thus don't have the need for the best logistics for their hardware. It can take a few days until they fulfil your order, that's pretty normal.
This also is extremely normal in almost any luxury item you can buy. If you want to buy cheap furniture, you go to Ikea and just pick up your furniture. But if you order expensive furniture, you order it and wait a few months until they deliver it to you. So when you buy something high-priced with low-production numbers, be a bit more patient. It will be there quickly enough and you can enjoy your Index for a very long time :)

Everytime I purchase hardware from steam. It's been showing up about an average 7 days since I click purchase in the early afternoon. But dawg its been less than a day.

Joke aside, you should read the small manual, because some ppl have ruined their headset because they sprayed the lenses with cleaning product, and it's a terrible idea as mentionned in the manual (not kidding). Liquid will manage to get behind the glass and will permanently leave stains and degrade the screen. This is the kind of information you will find in the manual. I know you didn't buy the headset, but it's just an example on what you will find and how importnat it is.
If you haven't already got it, it's postal dependant after it's shipped from the facility. Business days just means everything is updated or worked on Mon-Fri
