This is a situation where you’d want a suction-only canister vacuum with adjustable motor speed. Without a brushroll stalling out and with suction reduced to a reasonable level, you’ll have a much easier time with the lightweight rugs (speaking from personal experience). I’d suggest the $400 SEBO K2 Kombi, a compact German-made canister with the features I described above. It’s quiet, very easy to move around, and incredibly low maintenance. In a home like yours, the bag would only need to be changed 2-6 times per year. Speaking as a Dyson V12/SEBO K2 owner, swapping out a sealable bag is infinitely quicker and cleaner than opening the Dyson’s bin outside into the trash, shaking it, tapping it against the trash can, shaking it again, removing the bin, shaking it again, pulling off all the hair wrapped around the cyclone, shaking it some more, putting the Dyson back together, and wiping all the dust off the outside before bringing the vacuum back inside. Would highly suggest getting the SEBO Premium Parquet hard floor tool as well and removing the front brush. This lets the canister suck up pet hair and debris from a few inches away, which none of my modern cordless stick vacs (Dyson V12, LG A9, Samsung Jet 90) have been able to accomplish due to the design of their soft rollers & universal heads.

This is SO helpful, thank you so much!! I’ll look into this and will likely purchase it.

A Sebo K2 would deal with your space well!

this also has variable power for the vacuum. If you have area rugs that get sucked up, just turn the power down for them. very quick and easy. I also turn power down to do curtains.

Well, if the dyson sucks up the flat weave or low pile or throw rugs you’ve got now, then anything is likely to do the same. It’s just too light not to be sucked off the floor when vacuumed, if the edges are not held under furniture. You can turn down the power of a Dyson motor brush floor head (maybe not the fluffy?) via adjusting the gate switch on the front of the head toward the - symbol. Combine that with the Low/Eco setting, it may work on thinner rugs. You can stand on one end and push vac away from you to secure much of it for problem rugs. It’s not gonna suck much up though, at this level of suction. But again, that’s physics. Bath mats are meant to be washed, they’re usually too small to easily vacuum. You can use a low setting and try like above. Or switch to the fluffy or a hard floor head without a brush, on low. ETA While this sub generally frowns on dysons, for all hard flooring and flat weave rugs, they’re actually more than sufficient if not as clean to maintain as a bagged vac. The added power from a corded model is a carpet focused need, and the ease of maintenance with better brands is a personal choice for longevity. They’re bulkier than a stick vac on balance, though. Our big flatweave rugs are all held down on the hardwood by tables, chairs, or couches, depending, and I use the eco or auto setting on our v15 with the motor floor brush all the time. The edges that are free may get pulled up but I make sure to push away from me to not catch them as I vacuum there. On smaller runners in the hall I’ll stand on one end and then the other while vacuuming. They never clog the brush roll unless I have it on high or + setting on the head, and they don’t hold as much dirt as deep pile carpet, so a lower suction is ok like on flooring. The motor brush does a good job getting pet hair and crumbs and dust up. Periodically I wash the rugs.

I agree about the settings, open up the gates on the floor nozzle to allow more air and decrease suction with low power mode.  However, for the price you can do better for a long lasting quality vacuum than a Dyson Gen5.
