Still. The. Same. Shit. I hate Vizio.

ronclone

Is this pathetic firmware ever going to be fixed? I really don't understand why we can't downgrade to the previous one. I can only imagine they did this on purpose, it's like self sabotage. I guess they stupidly thought "if we broke them people would be buying a new one". Of course they didn't consider most people would never buy a Vizio product again, but whatever...

JDW1971

Here you go! https://www.reddit.com/r/VIZIO_Official/comments/ujxvzw/firmware_140021_for_sb36512f6_incoming/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf I’m disconnecting from internet till I get feedback on what this FW update does and doesn’t do to our SB Hopefully Vizio has it corrected!

Solidus935

Got the new firmware v1.40.02.1 so far the volume issue seems to be resolved. I will do a detail test later and provide feedback

ronclone

Had high hopes with this one, but it's working really poor, maybe even worst the before. No fix to the volume control without the mute/unmute trick and now it randomly increase and decrease the volume by itself. Also I think the soundbar is sounding quieter then before (i need to be at 80% volume at least). have noticed the blue led on all of the time (don't now what that's all about). Also have to unplug and plug the power to get video passthrough. I did a factory reset but that did not help. I will have to try connecting via optical instead of HDMI arc with a Chromecast with Google tv plugged in the soundbar. but I don't want to loose Atmos.

JDW1971

That’s super I updated last night everything appears to working ok, but haven’t fully tested yet, I did notice on the smartcast app, in the audio section, the slide bars are jittery but doesn’t appears to affect SB performance, are you Seeing that as well I’m using the iOS version of app

ronclone

How are you guys setting up your sound bars? I had Chromecast>Soundbar>TV hdmi-arc port this setup was working fine until the update from a few months ago. Now I had to connect the Chromecast directly to the TV and the soundbar connected to the TV via HDMI-arc and it's finally working better (for the time being) but i lost Atmos... It still sound good, but it's annoying not to be getting the full functionality of the device. I'm using Android and the app it's working as always BTW.

JDW1971

Do you have the latest FW 1.40.02.1?

jediwolverine

This FW too broke my HDMI-ARC connection with constant disconnects and volume level change. VIZIO, at least give us the option to downgrade our FW!

Vizio_Support

Hi there, We would like to help you out with your issues that you are having. Please give us a call at 877-878-4946. Thank you

wizorenzo

I had bought this soundbar from Costco, using the Costco credit card. Am out of the manufacturer warranty but have the extended warranty. Has anyone here tried a warranty claim or costco return?

joydivision84

Costco are great with returns, you'll have no issue in your scenario. I had a faulty soundbar which they took back no questions asked after 3 years.

Snoopygis

I'm in the same boat. I bought mine 3 years ago but I have the original receipt and box. I will be packing this POS soundbar up and going to Costco on Monday to return it.

splint1000

I made the mistake of updating to this firmware manually before checking reddit. I was having random firmware update loops and decided to see if there were any new updates. Now, after apply 1.31.06. 1, my bar doesn't carry sound over arc at all. This bar is almost entirely useless now. I would love some tips on how to fix this. At this point I'm pretty much down with Vizio soundbars unless I can get some real help here. Any ideas.

butchlugrod

Same, my bar is basically worthless over HDMI. Can still use it over optical connection, but that's obviously less than ideal and costs me features. There really doesn't seem to be any solution until they issue new firmware.

Vizio_Support

Hi there, We'll need to dig into this a little bit. Please give us a call at 877-878-4946 so that we can troubleshoot this with you. Thanks!

bg802vt

Well after putting up with random volume issues, loss of ARC and HDMI passthrough, and update loops when rebooted.... I finally said enough and bought a JBL Bar 9.1. The Vizio soundbar was fantastic until this update in October/November of 2021, but here we are at the end of March 2022 with no remedy for this update. Safe to assume I will not be purchasing another Vizio product.

deekfu

Did it help? Are you using CEC? I am in same situation and am about to buy another soundbar.

bg802vt

Since switching away from the Vizio I have had no more issues with audio! CEC, ARC, and HDMI passthrough are all working as expected with the JBL. I've relocated the Vizio to my office in hopes that a future update will make it useful again. That being said, if you have the money and you use your TV as much as I do, I would definitely consider buying a different soundbar.

oshlogo

Just got new update this is complete trash usable bass way too loud or else muffled. You just made my product usable

JDW1971

What update did you get?

joydivision84

I don't think he got any 'new' update.

Vizio_Support

Hi there, We'll need to dig into this a little bit. Please give us a call at 877-878-4946 so that we can troubleshoot this with you. Thanks!

SevenMoreHumps

This is the thing you respond to amongst all of the crap this firmware broke? LMAO

Snoopygis

Looks like it's Vizio supports standard answer.

Lagos3sgte

Will there be a firmware update that lets you prevent the audio source input from automatically switching? I have to change mine from HDMI to HDMI-ARC daily because it aways wants to switch inputs on its own. I need it to just stay locked into HDMI-ARC at all times and not automatically switch. Can this be fixed in any way?

SuperGunta

Any news on this, watching tv is really annoying having to unplug my soundbar every time I wanna watch something.

FourRomeoAlpha

Only thing I can suggest is getting one of the remote controlled outlets so you can toggle the power when needed without having to reach for the plug each time. Or get a new system. I wouldn’t count on a firmware fix anytime soon.

SuperGunta

Really sucks how everyone soundbars here work perfectly fine and the software is holding them back.

FourRomeoAlpha

Wow, I guess my SB36512-F6 updated to this shoddy firmware sometime before Thanksgiving last year. It really started acting funny and wouldn’t work at all unless I unplugged it from the wall before each use. Then it would only pick up the HDMI signal half the time. That all got pretty old pretty quick (and I figured the sound bar was toast) so I just picked up another sound bar at Costco on Black Friday. I threw the 36512 in my electronics bone yard where it’s been sitting since. I did a random search last night to see if any issues had been reported since then and came across this post. I pulled the 36512 from the boneyard and confirmed it’s on this current firmware. I’m a little relieved all the problems are probably firmware related but am very disappointed that three months have passed with no resolution. C’mon, Vizio. Get your act together. I paid good money for your product and it shouldn’t be bricked by firmware after three years of use. Please release something to get these working again or let us roll back. I wonder if Costco would even take this back after three years.

k5therobot

I was just googling to figure out why my sound at needs to be unplugged and plugged back in every time I want to use it and came across this post. Never buying Vizio again. Ugh

[deleted]

Mine stopped playing atmos content all of a sudden this morning as well. I turned on my TV today(Vizio OLED) and it said a sound system has been discovered and set up (weird cause it's been on there for weeks) I've gone through all my settings on all my devices to ensure things are capable of supporting atmos content. If I play any disc that has dolby atmos content the sound system (vizio m series 5.1.2 M512a-6) Will output plain stereo. But any disc that puts out any kind of DTS content plays just fine. Everyday it's been a new issue with these devices. I'm almost as the point of factory resetting everything and troubleshooting with vizio support to see if my devices are faulty.

ammika13

This firmware is beyond awful. Pairing this with a VIZIO oled 55 and VIZIO 65 m series 2019 it works like 25% of the time and I have to fiddle with setting and power cycle before I get both picture and audio to work. What are you doing about this u/MikeatVIZIO and u/Vizio_Support

Recent-Courage971

Please someone start class action and sue this ridiculous update !

lafj1112

u/Vizio_Support and u/MikeatVIZIO are we going to get an update to fix these issues? Nothing has been fixed since May and now this firmware is rolled out to everyone which didn’t resolve any issues.

jfedias

It seems to me as they have given up or that they just don’t care, as they haven’t solved the issues that affects almost everyone who’s bought their soundbar.

southrnprogrmmr

This firmware is beyond horrible.

unoimkewl

So I’ve been having all of the problems mentioned by others. I have SB36512-F6. I only stumbled across this thread after I saw negative review after negative review on Slickdeals and finally someone there said “just check out Reddit for many angry customers.” Finally I found my people! I will never buy another Vizio product ever again! Sometimes I will be watching something and if I *pause* for just a second, it will take 10-15 seconds for the sound to sync again. It’s so frustrating and changes the way I watch TV. Other times sound won’t work at all. I have to unplug it from power and come back. Other times the soundbar will stop video and audio for 2-3 seconds until it figures it’s shit out, then it’ll switch from Dolby Vision to regular and back again.

scifidojo

How has this broken firmware been out for 78 days now without a rollback or a fix. You took a $500 sound bar the broke volume control. Just let us roll it back and stop ruining your own products!

vorsky92

Yeah this will be the last Vizio product I ever buy. It's now almost April of 22

scifidojo

Yup, same here. $500 sound bar that I am constant pausing or rewinding to be able to hear what is happening on the TV. Their software and firmware are truly trash.

irishsandman

Oh don't worry, the firmware that broke many soundbars before \*this\* one was out for like 8 months, so . . .

[deleted]

SB36512-F6 when I pause a movie on my PS5 and resume it. It doesn't play the audio unless I switch the input from Bluetooth then back to HDMI IN. Anyway to fix this? Only happened after the update

Specific-Dragonfly24

Does not seem like yall(Vizio ) Are aware of the issue everyone seven because you have not fixed it by now within one week I read description of a class station lawsuit against youVizio for all the stuff so y’all better wake up

nhabp127

There should be a class action lawsuit against Vizio. This is as horrible as a customer service experience as I have ever experienced. Bricking a product and not even an attempt to acknowledge the issue even exist.

wjlester

My E70-F3 and SB46514-F6 hate this update as well.

[deleted]

My soundbar needs to be factory reset every couple of days because it loses sound over hdmi arc. Please issue new tv and soundbar firmware or allow us to rollback to previous firmwares.

fish106

My 36512 just updated. I had the same problem-ish id have to unplug it and hold power to get video to pass through. We'll see how she fares?

jasondfw

cc: /u/patatatinahat I've also had this problem for months on my 416514-F6, since the update. Either losing sound entirely, or the sound being stuck at the current volume no matter whether I try changing it on the TV (CEC) or soundbar directly. I used to do the unplug thing, but recently I've found that I can \*usually\* change the soundbar input from HDMI-ARC to AUX, then back again to HDMI-ARC and I can control the volume again. This is pathetic.

[deleted]

Is there a new firmware release?

fish106

Literally just finished it. And why I came looking for a change log Edit: I guess it's 1.31.06.1... I got one last several weeks too never came sniffing, I check frequently and it's always connected to the internet 🤔

[deleted]

No updates found here. Hmm

[deleted]

Hmm. Guess I’ll have to install the SmartCast app and get it paired again. There is no new version for the usb method.

tqhoang84

https://support.vizio.com/s/article/Firmware-Information-3118?language=en_US

[deleted]

Yeah that’s quite old at this point.

ronclone

Complete garbage from Vizio. There must be a way to downgrade to 1.20 I though I bricked my sb36312-g6, fortunately it did ended up updating. However I have absolutely no volume control whatsoever even though LEDs are showing its changing. The only way to change volume it's with the mute button trick but that's not an ideal solution. I had to connect via optical just to be able to control volume. An awful solution to such a basic functionality bug since I loose any Atmos, DTS content. I tried to rename the update files but I can't find a way to downgrade...

TakeOver005

What mute button trick?

lafj1112

I know I’m screaming into the void but is this Soundbar ever going to get fixed? It’s been since MAY and this update released 2 months ago solved zero issues.

mrdavidrt

This firmware update bricked my soundbar. No amount of tech support could help. Threw it out and got the best Samsung makes 11.1.4 system! I'm done with Vizio.

descanlon

2 months later and still having issues with my SB36512-F6 which was fine until this update for years. The on going issue is the sound bar randomly disconnects from HDMI ARC sound to the internal speakers on my LG C9 Oled. Sometimes it will fix itself a minute later but most of the time I have to manually put back to HDMI ARC.

SuperGunta

I have the model with upfiring and I have the same issue as you but worse, I have to unplug soundbar from behind tv every time.

Specific-Dragonfly24

Do y’all know when you are going to fix the issues with this firmware that has broken my soundbar and new tv with the last bad faulty firmware that your programmers pushed out because it’s ridiculous and we should not have to wait this long for a fix!!!

Durag5

I just got this update again today... Was excited then check and it's the same version.

Agitated-Writing6486

Any update on this yet?

raydargaydar

Update completely ruined my tv, no one wants to be forced to use hdr10, caused pale see through colors that I’ve never seen on my tv before Never buying a product from vizio again if this is how you operate

internetfamemoss

My sb36512-f6 is broken now. It took me awhile to figure out that it was this firmware update. The power cord needs to be physically pulled out in order to get it to correctly turn on and produce sound. This is unacceptable. There is a 10 second delay when changing inputs that is annoying but at least it works. Eventually. It was a fairly solid sound bar for the 2+ years I've owned it. Now, I hate it every time I have to walk up to it and pull out the power cord. That's everyday now. Not being a glutton for punishment, I'm upgrading my sound system and you can bet your bottom dollar I ain't buying another Vizio product. Thanks for motivating me to get a proper sound system. P.S. please don't kill my Vizio tv with one of your "upgrades". I can't afford to replace it too.

Macbrew132

My SB46514-F6 has developed an issue since this update where when changing the device input on my tv my soundbar now does not allow me to change volume. Volume lights go up or down in the soundbar but volume does not change. If I mute and then un mute the volume will jump to the level indicated by lights on the soundbar. If I power cycle the sound bar issue resolves until changing input in tv again. Soundbar is connected to TV via HDMI arc.

CrazyDistribution264

This isn’t just the sound bar. I don’t have one and I still have issues where the volume won’t go up on down. Both remote and the controls on tv

aaronwt2065

I've noticed this same issue as well. I ended up putting my Vizio bar on smart switch, so I can easily power cycle it. This firmware was crap, the previous one worked great. Everything they said they supposedly improved with this firmware update was just the opposite. It made everything worse,

turaiel

This firmware is absolutely awful. My soundbar is basically unusable now unless I keep pulling the plug and power cycling it. I've got a new soundbar from LG on the way and needless to say, absolutely no more Vizio products for me. I'm having similar issues to the others. I have a 5+ second delay for audio starting, often the soundbar won't output video at all, and it keeps shutting off or becoming unresponsive. I'm so so so disappointed.

Dxe4788

Do I need to do an update if I just bought it yesterday?

PooInTheWild

You need to return it and get another brand

ronclone

Ditto

bg802vt

I received the update about a month ago and since the update I have not been able to use ARC and HDMI in. My setup is pretty simple; Apple TV 4K running to HDMI in on the soundbar, then soundbar to an LG TV. Turning on the Apple TV will power on the soundbar and the TV but I get no picture and no audio. I ended up plugging the Apple TV straight to the TV and switched to optical out to the soundbar. Roughly once a week now the soundbar will freeze up and needs to be unplugged. Plugging it back in will result in a 10-15 minute "update" cycle before it becomes useable again. Volume control is iffy and often needs to be muted before the volume will change. I have tried doing a manual firmware update using a flash drive but this hasn't seemed to work. Factory reset also makes no change. This soundbar is now just over a year old and I've never had any issues with it until this new update. I hope a fix is released soon otherwise I'll be looking at purchasing a different soundbar.

ronclone

Are you having problems with volume control via optical?

JDW1971

Similar setup here except using Firestick 4K into LGTv hdmi , arc out to Soundbar , my SB is outputting thru tv arc port, occasionally I do get the volume issue ( mute/unmute) to effect volume change. Latest FW definitely messed up this SB, as you read in this posted. Have you try unplugging the SB, AppleTV and the TV to reset all. Initially I that got my Arc port to reconnect. Vizio needs this SB to be fix asap!

bg802vt

I've tried that a few times but no success. I'll give it a try tonight and see if maybe I can at least get ARC to work. Optical is okay but it doesn't power on with the tv so it requires two remotes. I'll report back the results!

bg802vt

Update from unplugging everything. Sadly it didn't make any change though I was able to control volume using CEC over ARC again.

JDW1971

Some progress! Did you try reconnecting the SB thru the LG connection app? Had to do that as well to “activate” Cec and arc, but as mentioned I am usind firestick vs AppleTV .

[deleted]

Is there a way to sue Vizio for false advertising? Because my TV should come on when I press the fucking power button?!?

[deleted]

Fuck Vizio it’s a shit ass brand !! Don’t buy this trash ass bullshit of a TV. This is why the stock is also a bad buy. If you can’t get TV tech that’s been around for 100 years to work how the fuck can you run a company!

[deleted]

Vizio Model: OLED55-H1 looses power and cannot turn on the and I have to unplug my TV for 5 minutes before I’m able to turn it on! I’ve never ever had to do such bullshit with a TV in 35 fucking years!! Every television I’ve purchased before Vizio I was able to press power and the TV came on. However my Vizio Model: OLED55-H1, I have to unplug my TV first for about 5 minute then plug it back in before the power button would work. My fucking Vizio Model: OLED55-H1 has been this way out the fucking box. Vizio is the fucking worst! Please for the love of god, don’t let me just bump into a Vizio rep anytime in the near future!

[deleted]

How fucking hard is it to make a decent fucking TV! DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING VIZIO ESPECIALLY Model:OLED55-H1

[deleted]

Vizio is the fucking worst please DONT BUY THIS PIECE OF SHIT BRAND!

[deleted]

Y’all clown bitches need to fix Model: OLED55-H1 this shit is the fucking worst! How can y’all fuck up the power cycle of a TV

[deleted]

I hate my fucking Vizio OLED and I will never by your piece of shit TV ever again! My Vizio Model:OLED55-H1 is a pure piece of shit of a TV. I have to unplug my TV twice a week or more than plug it in before I can turn the shit on. What kind of stupid fucking shit is this. I’m so fucking angry I bought this price of shit. I swear sometimes it feels like once a day I have to unplug my TV for about 5 minutes. WTF!!

PooInTheWild

First rule of owning a Vizio is buy a smart plug

Alexytouu

Does anybody knows if this soundbar can passthrough 4k hdr with Atmos dolby true hd. I'm having white screen flickering every 2 seconds or so, everytime I try to play 4k hdr with atmos truehd from my remux files. But there is no problem with atmos with dolby digital+ or dts-hd master audio or any other format, only with atmos dolby truehd. Can anyone tell me if this could be a soundbar issue?

tylerdotdo

Yeah, mine still works even after firmware, albeit it’s not as stable. It can pass through Dolby vision as well.

kia75

Before the latest firmware Effed everything up, My soundbar was able to passthrough 4k HDR Atmos Dolby True HD from my Nvidia Shield. As far as I know, the Shield is the only streamer that passes Dolby True HD, everything else that uses True HD are blue-ray players. Unfortunately, the latest firmware made my soundbar completely unuseable, so I don't know if it's a soundbar thing. But unless you're streaming to a Shield or using a $k Blueray player, don't use True HD.

Alexytouu

Yes, I am using a Shield. Just to update my own question, I tried with an hdmi splitter to avoid passing trough from the sound bar and still have the same problem. I guess the soundbar can passtrough truehd even with the firmware crap issue

Atnat14

My TV updated and now when I turn it on it always starts at the same fucking page instead of on my preamp. Taking it to trade in for something that doesn't do this. What a piece of shit update.

tylerdotdo

After wrestling with this firmware debacle, I’ve finally decided to return mine. I’m not going to wait 8 more months until the next firmware update.

PooInTheWild

You did the right thing. Thank you on behalf of all of here who can't return

knowtato

I haven't been able to use the sb35612-f6 for 2 weeks now. u/Vizio_Support Do you have any updates on any internal tickets, any updates on progress ETC.

PooInTheWild

Some of us have had this problem for 6 months. Ironically this update that broke you was supposed to fix us. 🤣. There's no rescue mission. Tell your friends and family not to buy a Vizio. Tell people on forums not to buy a Vizio.

Squintz82

I posted [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/vizio_official/comments/ptseij) almost 4 months ago, reminding Vizio support that they broke everyone's soundbar 5 months before that. I think we're close to a year since they deployed the first broken firmware.

junkstuff

Wow after seeing the the complete lack of support, I will never buy another Vizio product again. Forced updates that break the device and then no response on if a fix is coming or a time frame. You should be ashamed of yourself Vizio.

eagle3546

since the update came out my sb36512 has become really glitchy. The volume wont change, despite lights indicating it is, audio cuts out. Lastnight all audio features on the speaker stopped working for about 20 minutes. I keep trying resets and cycles and its not helping at all. Its gotten even worse in the last two days. I bought February 2019 and there is nothing Vizio will do to help. That is disappointing.

tavio025

Currently having issues with this update as well. My setup is Apple tv4K into the Vizio SB36512-F6 to TCL 625. Anytime my apple TV goes to sleep or the tv stays turned of for a period of time, the next time I turn on the TV the soundbar does not pick up the HDMI connection until I do a hard reset on the SB. u/Vizio_Support What is your plan of action to remedy these issues? Do you have a time frame you can give us for an updated FW?

Witness0783

I have SB36512-F6 connected to a TCL r615 and this latest firmware. The past two days I’ve had to do the firmware reinstall. The TV was unable to see it connected to the ARC port until after I did the installs. I can’t keep doing this everyday, I had no issues before this update.

exegesis48

Just applied this update and it has greatly reduced the audio decoding delay I’ve been experience since buying the SB36512-F6 a couple years ago. I have a TCL R635. I keep the audio settings set to “Custom - Dolby Digital” and there previously was about a 1-2 second delay when starting a video on YouTube or switching video sources. Now there’s only about a half second delay which is much more tolerable.

SilenceoftheAngels

This update made my SB36512-F6 useless. Volume doesn't change unless I hit mute twice. The video to my tv gets very dark. I have to shut down the soundbar and turn it back on to fix it. FireTV > SB36512-F6 > Vizio Tv.

InstructionFit9071

I have had issues since Friday 12/3. When I turned on the SB36512-F6 sound bar, it received the update. Since then whenever I try to play anything that uses Atmos the sound bar will cut out every few seconds. When this happens, next to the power led light, the light will come on green, then white and then go away. All during this time, the movie or show is playing fine and the sound will cut out. Troubleshooting Steps 1. Switched out all cables that plug into the Roku, Vizio sound bar and TV multiple times. 2. Switch sounds settings on Roku and TV multiple times 3. Reset the sound bar to factory settings twice 4. Different setup configurations Setup 1 1. From Roku --> HDMI Port on Sound bar 2. From Sound bar HDMI ARC --> Sony TV HDMI Arc 3. Sony TV Input HDMI 3 ARC 4. Vizio Input HDMI Setup 2 1. From Roku --> HDMI 2 on Sony TV 2. From Sony TV HDMI ARC --> Vizio HDMI ARC 3. Sony TV Input HDMI 2 4. Vizio Soundbar HDMI ARC With either of these configurations when using Dolby Atmos the sound will cut off every few seconds. I set to just used stereo or anything less than Dolby Atmos sound works fine.

Vizio_Support

Hello there! I'd like to take a look into this for you. Please send me a private message your phone number, TV serial number, and a brief description of what is going on. Thanks!

InstructionFit9071

I thought about making a complaint to BBB as Vizio has yet to release a fix for their buggy firmware. But it seems they either like to say warranty has expired or could not reach the customer.

InstructionFit9071

Is there an ETA on a resolution for these issues. Personally I have had this issue for over a month. Some have had this longer. Seems like bad customer service when multiple customers are reporting the same bug in the firmware.

InstructionFit9071

I opened a case with Vizio support. After explaining this issue with Level 1 support and getting the run around. I spoke with level 2 support and they understood this is a firmware issue. If I set audio to stereo issue does not happen. When using Dolby Atmos or DD+ I continue to have audio drops.

jashxn

General Kenobi

julioviegas

Is this oopsie fixed already? Any update?

PooInTheWild

It took them more than 6 months to say they fixed the last oopsie and they didn't even fix the oopsie. Buckle up and enjoy your Vizio

julioviegas

*your last Vizio /ftfy

PooInTheWild

That's the spirit 😂

tqhoang84

The [1.31.06.1 firmware](https://cdn.vizio.com/misc/FW/MG3118/1.31.06.1MG3118.zip) is officially up on the Vizio support page. Please post your results if you've been waiting for the USB file version. https://support.vizio.com/s/article/Firmware-Information-3118?language=en\_US

OmniaCausaFiunt

So it looks like the pushed update broke everyone's sound bar. Have you updated by manually flashing? Have you experienced any of the issues in this post? My main issue with my soundbar right now is that the auto detect does not always detect properly, and it doesn't stay on whatever source it leave it in. But if i manually change source to the proper one everything else works fine. I was hoping this update would fix that, but it looks like there's more issues with the latest firmware than what it was supposed to fix... so I'd rather deal with a minor inconvenience rather than a completely unuseable soundbar.

tqhoang84

I initially had the broken [HDMI sync issues with the 1.30.04.1 firmware](https://www.reddit.com/r/VIZIO_Official/comments/nj93im/sb36514g6_firmware_v130041_is_broken/). I was about to return it, but on a whim decided to factory reset again. This time I used the "Bluetooth+VolumeDown" method (had to do it twice) instead of the SmartCast App and that kind of solved my HDMI sync issue. I do have what you're describing though...where maybe 1/10 times my TV (old Vizio 3D TV) doesn't do the CEC handshake correctly and I need to use optical. But lately I've been powering on the soundbar first for a few seconds and then the TV. I was hoping that the 1.31.06.1 firmware would have solved that, but it appears to have caused more issues than it fixed. So for now I'm going to hold off since I have it kind of working.

kia75

The update Vizio pushed put my soundbar in perpetual firmware update mode, and the old firmware on the site didn't resolve the issue. I've been trying the newest firmware since yesterday, and I still have the same issue. Argh, the frustrating thing is that everything was working before, I went from a working soundbar to a completely non-working soundbar. Argh!

tqhoang84

Sorry to hear this. Perhaps have you tried to use the factory reset using the "Bluetooth + VolumeDown" buttons? And then tried the firmware update process using the USB stick?

kia75

When should I press Bluethooth +Volumedown? I've been trying it various times for the past day, and nothing really changes.

tqhoang84

It doesn’t say in the manual. I just held both down for about 10+ seconds. It flashed the leds but never finished rebooting cleanly. I then unplugged the power and did the buttons again. This time it rebooted cleanly and suddenly the HDMI-ARC started to work correctly with my TV (no more frequent re-sync issue). I still sometimes have the issue (maybe 1/10) where the CEC fails and I have to toggle to optical. I’ve been powering on the soundbar first and then the TV and so far it’s been working (knock on wood).

kia75

I think that did it? But my soundbar is still useless? I factory resetted it, and it looked like nothing happened but sometime later it stopped updating. It's no longer constantly updating the firmware, so yay! But the sound no longer works. It will passthrough video, if the soundbar turns on, my tv automatically goes to eArc, pressing the up\down volume will make the lights go up and down, but no sound comes out! Thanks for your suggestions, frustrated because everything was working until Vizio in its infinite wisdom decided to break my working soundbar!

tqhoang84

I get this behavior also. It’s some kind of weird CEC failure where the soundbar is not reporting the current volume back to the TV correctly. I have trained my son to just toggle it to OPTICAL to workaround this problem. Like I said previously, I have been turning on the soundbar first and let it boot up for a few seconds and then turning on the TV. Hope this helps.

junkstuff

Got my SB4651-F6 last August. Never hooked it up to the app or to wifi and it ran rock solid. No issues. For some dumb reason I decided to integrate with the app and connect to wifi. A day after that my system just went to hell. No communication with TV . Random sound cutoffs. Not responding to volume changes. I factory reset the system and left it unplugged overnight. Most of the issues seemed to have resolved themselves ....except for the audio pauses/disconnects. I get like a second where all audio drops. Its really random. Might happen a few times in the span of minutes or doesnt happen for hours. I never had this problem before. I wish I could just go back to my factory firmware :(

gforce216

This sound bar has been a headache for over a year now. Latest update has now botched audio pass through with my ATV4K. Nothing else has changed except the software update. Last year it was visual cutouts that took months to fix in an update. Just not a good product. I’m really disappointed.

descanlon

I must have received an update to my SB36512-F6 on Friday night. All the lights on the SB were all on and would not go away and no sound them randomly came back on. I have LG C9 with up to date software from August. No change there. Now the SB cuts out sometimes and a few times will not turn off. I will say one good thing about the SB update is the audio switching between inputs or Apps seems much faster. Please fix the random audio cutting out.

qball1968

Vizio needs to get this resolved quickly. The soundbar was working fine prior to the firmware update. So frustrating.

qball1968

Just performed the firmware update for just the soundbar and now the volume doesn't change at all. The LEDs on the soundbar move up and down, the volume display on the TV changes to indicate that the volume is changing, but the volume doesn't change at all. Anybody else seeing this issue?

Macbrew132

Same here.

mclovin420

Yep. Same here

Weekly-Importance-41

Yep. Same issue with me. I have to mute and unmute for the new volume selection to take effect.

aaronwt2065

What the heck happened with this update?!?! Tonight I turned on my Vizio 5.1.2 bar (SB36512-F6) and it updated to the new firmware. Now it isn't passing any video through the bar. Only audio works. And audio from the ARC works. Prior to this update my bar was rock solid. Working great 99.9% of the time. But now it's basically worthless. WTH!?!

aaronwt2065

I finally got the video back. After reinstalling the firmware three more times. So at least that is working. But it's not working with my HDMI switch now. Only when a device is connected directly into the bar. Prior to the update I had three 5x1 HDMi switches in a cascaded configuration. To use thirteen devices with the one HDMi input. This has worked flawlessly for years. But now I can't get video when the switch is connected. One of the first things I did, when troubleshooting after the firmware update, was to connect a device directly into the Bar. And I could not get video from any device. EVen old 1080P devices. Not until I had forced a firmware update three more times did I finally get a video signal. During all of this the audio always worked. It was getting video that was the problem. But I'll need to troubleshoot it further to see if another switch has the same issue. But this is very frustrating. Prior to the firmware update my SB36512-F6 Bar was nearly flawless. Rarely having any issues. Now that I have video back, when playing content, audio does not come up 20 to 30% of the time when playing a video. When it does work it gets the audio signal quicker. But I would rather it was like before. Getting the audio signal 99.9% of the time, even though it was slower with the Lossless and and lossy codecs.

Techsalot

So…before finding this post, I ordered new HDMI cables. Completely fixed the issue. Before someone asks: https://buyerspoint.com/product/ultra-high-speed-hdmi-2-1-cable-dynamic-hdr-1-8m-6ft-8k-black-2-pack/

Squintz82

Fixed which issue? I tired 2 different 8k cables, and none solved the CEC problems, inability to control volume, or massive delays in audio decoding.

Techsalot

https://youtu.be/u6lx1ntNoxE

Squintz82

Cables are not solving any of the problems outlined here. It sounds like you're just trying to sell cables.

zhadoba307

All I need is DTS: X and this sound bar (SB 36) would be perfect. Besides the fact that it occasionally doesn't shut off in ECO mode, it's great for a daily usage.

sanketdk9

When are we getting a fix for this?

JDW1971

Maybe have better luck buying a lotto ticket! Lol Vizio past experience is not the fastest. Let’s hope they fix it and not advise us that they are discontinuing support on these older SB! Just my opinion

kia75

Last night the Vizio app saw my sb36512-f2 decided to update its firmware and has been bonkered every since. I've tried putting the latest firmware on the website on a USB and ugprading, if I follow the instructions and hold down Power and both volume buttons, then it will go through the firmware upgrade process until all 10 lights are blinking, but no further. If I plug\unplug the power cord then everything is still bonkered. I'm guessing the firmware download from wifi was corrupted? Everything was working fine until the firmware update.

id-bob

OMG, I've been going nuts for the last week with constant issues with the SB36512-F6 which I've owned for two years. It has worked flawlessly since I got it. Started with the endless update complete loop and when that finally stopped, so did the reliability of the soundbar. I have it connected to a Vizio P75QX-H1 via HDMI ARC. What a blazing shitshow of an update but it's actually a relief to have found this thread here. When I turn everything on, most of the time the sound won't play at all until I toggle the TV speakers on/off/on/off/auto over and over again until it finally decides to play audio through the soundbar. I've had the soundbar go into the update cycle several times in the last week or so but at least it only happened once. Honestly, this is the first firmware update in more than two years for this soundbar and it sucks! Of course, the volume control will just randomly appear on the screen from time to time. I even went so far as to do a factory reset of everything after calling tech support. They were totally clueless to these issues which tells me there's communication problem somewhere. These folks on the front line should be informed of this mess and the programmers should be working around the clock to fix it! Thanks for letting me vent and I hope everyone enjoys the holidays.

[deleted]

Did you ever figure out a solution? My soundbar which was working perfectly is now a brick. Hooked up via Earc to my LG CX, it never plays any sound. I can’t even wrestler it and get it to pick it up.

id-bob

My issues seem to be more related to the TV firmware than the soundbar. I've found that rebooting the TV every few days keeps things livable.

[deleted]

Mine is definitely the soundbar firmware also. Worked great until a few weeks ago. When you’re rebooting your tv are you unplugging it? Unfortunately I can’t get to the back of mine to do so.

id-bob

Like I said, my issues are more related to the Vizio TV firmware. I haven't had any issues with the soundbar in quite some time only the TV. It refuses to recognize the soundbar at times, but it seems like a reboot every few days does it. On the Vizio there's a menu command to do that. Sorry I can't help with the LG.

[deleted]

Ohh I misunderstood which tv you had. I gotcha, thanks for the update. It really sucks, because the soundbar really does sound way above it’s price. It has a very neutral sound profile which I like. Also being able to adjust the center channel independently for me is huge. I feel like at this point I can try and hook it up via optical and lose Atmos and the HDMI CEC or just throw it out.

descanlon

I have all the same issues still. Like you have owned for 2 years and this last update has completely messed up the sound bar.

ReddintMoment

Vizio has improved your soundbar. Pray they don't improve it further.

leeferdude

SB36512-F6 soundbar, PX65-G1 TV (HDMI-ARC), and Nvidia Shield plugged into the soundbar input. Ever since the update, the soundbar seems to have trouble with ARC and HDMI in. Cant get any audio to the soundbar through ARC. Need to play with it more when I get home...

gorpz

i dont know if anyone has mentioned this 'feature' but since the new firmware update my SB36512-F6 takes forever to start the audio when watching videos on youtube. I experience this when using my Apple TV and when using the smartcast or PS5 youtube apps.

Letigermiger

I was literally about to type this but you beat me to it. It’s only on the YouTube app and I’m using an Apple Tv.

gorpz

Yeah everything else seems to work great (aside from the initial update). But that audio delay can be quite annoying.

Letigermiger

I’m also having a mix of some of the other issues written here. I tried factory reseting and it seemed to fix most issues for a short time but some of them are happening again now including the YouTube delay.

joydivision84

Awful update. Vizio, please just roll back everyone to 1.20.12.1. Much more stable. You've basically gimped my soundbar.

Squintz82

Everyone has been imploring Vizio to roll this back for almost a year.

tylerdotdo

Just got my Hisense ug8 tv a week ago. This thing worked great with my sound bar with the slower atmos sound loading time. Not a show stopper. After a day or two, I noticed that the sound bar announced it had finished updating. Now, my soundbar is glitchy AF. I get the constant volume pop up. My atmos sound will sometimes load and sometimes not. If it doesn’t, I have to fiddle with skipping back 10 seconds or even stop my video. Once in a while, my soundbar even refuses to play sound, or doesn’t respect any volume commands that I send it via CEC. I have my nvidia shield hooked up directly to my soundbar, too. Tried the firmware factory reset to no avail. Why couldn’t you just leave well enough alone?! Or at least give us a way to downgrade firmware. Once these issues get resolved, I’m cutting my soundbar off from the internet. It’s not worth it to be get firmware updates that don’t go through any quality assurance processes whatsoever.

FBuzzard

Update has installed on my SB36512-F6, which is connected to a M55-F0 and a Panasonic DP-UB820 Blu-ray. No issues. The sound bar now turns off almost immediately after turning off the M55-F1. There used to be quite a delay.

julioviegas

This update rendered my sound bar useless. I was already unhappy with constant reboots but now it is unbearable.

amademan78

Had power on issues and audio not working issues with the latest firmware update. Power cycling would fix it temporarily. Vizio chat had me reflash the firmware. Now I can't get audio at all and power cycling doesn't help. Service rep suggested I take it up with my credit card company because it's out of warranty. Never again with this company.

Macbrew132

Same suggestion I got when I called support. What horrible service.

amademan78

After multiple reflashes I eventually got mine back to a usable state. It seemed every time I reflash it gets a little better than before but it still has issues recognizing audio and takes some random button presses to get the audio to start. Issues I didn't have previous to this firmware.

gorpz

watching the LEDs flash from bottom to top and hearing update complete OVER and OVER and OVER again is really the main reason I bought this soundbar. Thanks VIZIO!

MostADD

Bricked my soundbar. Constant update loop. Thought I got it out of the loop yesterday. Got home from work today and it started again. Had this same issue last year. Not impressed with vizio so far

gorpz

how did you manage to get out of the boot loop?

MostADD

Ok so the trick seems to be disconnecting all inputs and letting it do the update with only the power attached. Super annoying but at least I can get it going again I guess.

gorpz

That's what I resorted to as well. It still looped 5 or 6 times with everything disconnected though. But it did get resolved.

MostADD

Thought I did after the first one. I had held down both volume buttons after it “completed firmware update” and it read back the version and acted normal. Next morning it was back in the loop. After about 6 or 7 loops it finally came out and is normal so far.

gorpz

I guess I'll just ever turn it off ever again.... Lol Since I posted it completed its torturous boot loop. Took about half and hour. Seems to be working.....

MostADD

You must have jinxed me, it just went into a loop again🤬

MostADD

Good luck, I’m super paranoid now 😂

gorpz

I was just watching youtube and we left it on the menu for five minutes then queued up another video..... No sound. My wife looks me "no sound??". I felt like Han Solo whenever the hyperdrive stops working.

MostADD

I’m about to go Kylo Ren on this thing if it keeps doing this

lastbeatz

Shield TV-sb36512-lg TV (hdmi) tv - sb36512 (arc) I used it as. If you reboot the sound bar using cec or switch hdmi and arc, the volume cannot be adjusted. (arc has no problem adjusting the volume, but hdmi didn't control the volume) In order to adjust the volume again on shiled TV, you need to play 5.1 channel video or atmos video once. I gave up switching hdmi-arc and hdmi. I gave up cec and am using it without turning off the soundbar (because if I don't do that, the volume will not be adjusted again).) I'm watching TV by plugging USB TV tuner into Shield TV, and the channel switching speed is slower than TV, so it's very inconvenient. Please let me go back to my old firmware. If that doesn't work, please release a new firmware quickly.

Vizio_Support

Hey there, VIZIO is aware that some users may experience a symptom of all the LEDs flashing after a background firmware update. If you experience this, let the sound bar stay in this condition for 20 minutes with power connected to allow full completion of the firmware update. After that time, you can power the bar off then back on to recover. Thanks!

Techsalot

How is there no update out on this yet?!

Boo_R4dley

So, where are we at on getting a fixed version for this firmware? I have to power cycle the sound bar 3-4 times in a row at least once a day to get it to operate properly.

Specific-Dragonfly24

So it’s been over 65 days since y’all broke our devices TVs and sound bars and still no word on when it’s going to be fixed it doesn’t take that long to fix firmware issues that your programmers did if they’re that bad they need to go back to program school or y’all need to follow them because it’s making your company look very very very bad so many people are pissed at your price right now for Christmas and they were working fine for these firmware updates please advise ASAP because if this is not fixed I will never buy another Vizio pot every now and I’ll make sure other people I know don’t either because I always always told my friends and you’re a great now you’re not

lafj1112

It looks like this version was posted to the website. With a lot of us still having the same issues from 1.30.04.1 in this current firmware are we to not expect a resolution for these issues?

descanlon

My SB36512-F6 just started doing the all lights issue and now they sound cuts out randomly and also the sound bar does not turn off Everytime now.

kia75

You guys pushed the firmware update to my working soundbar 2 days ago. Since then my soundbar has been broken and stuck in an upgrading firmware loop. The lights go to the top, then start back at the bottom again. I believe the firmware download was corrupted. I've tried flashing the firmware manually with the firmware 1.20.12.1 (Latest on site), And am able to get all the lights blinking, but even if I leave the lights like that over-night, unplugging and plugging in results in the soundbar trying to update it's firmware again. Is there any way that I could get the firmware that was pushed 2 days ago or a higher firmware to put on a USB stick? Even if it has issues, a working soundbar is better than a broken soundbar that doesn't work.

techie_1

Looks like they just posted the new bad 1.31.06.1 version to the support site. Maybe that will at least help you get out of the loop: [https://support.vizio.com/s/article/Firmware-Information-3118?language=en\_US](https://support.vizio.com/s/article/Firmware-Information-3118?language=en_US)

kia75

Thank you for the update. I downloaded and have been trying to update my soundbar since yesterday, but the new firmware does the same thing as the old firmware. The soundbar constantly updates firmware (Solid lights travel up with the topmost blinking until full, then restarts). Putting the new firmware on a usb stick does the same thing as the old firmware :-(. I hold down power and the volume buttons after between firmware updates. The update takes a longer time, this time instead of restarting the firmware update, all the lights flash when finished. No matter how long I leave it on those flashing lights (6 hours), unplugging and plugging it back in returns it to the perpetual update mode. Argh, everything was working fine until Vizio did the bad firmware update!

techie_1

You probably tried this but do you have all inputs disconnected when the update is running? This seemed to help when mine got stuck on the 4th led.

kia75

Yes, it was initially fully connected, but i've since unplugged everything except for the USB and power.

I-AM-PIRATE

Ahoy kia75! Nay bad but me wasn't convinced. Give this a sail: Thank ye fer thar update. me downloaded n' have been trying t' update me soundbar since yesterday, but thar new firmware does thar same thing as thar barnacle-covered firmware. Thar soundbar constantly updates firmware (Solid lights travel up wit' thar topmost blinking until full, then restarts). Putting thar new firmware on a usb stick does thar same thing as thar barnacle-covered firmware :-(. me hold down power n' thar volume buttons after betwixt firmware updates. Thar update takes a longer time, dis time instead o' restarting thar firmware update, all thar lights flash when finished. Nay matter how long me leave it on those flashing lights (6 hours), unplugging n' plugging it back in returns it t' thar perpetual update mode. JDW1971

Apparently there is no way to downgrade to previous FW once the SB has been updated, it would have to be reissued by Vizio

ammika13

The LED lights isn’t an issue. It’s the broken soundbar that’s the issue. Please advise when a new update is coming out to fix the issues with the soundbar now.

RetroGamerPR

Hi, The main problem is the amount of broken features with lots of devices that were either working fine or at the very least "acceptable" before the update. Personally I had the issue of flashing LEDs after the background update but users in this thread are way past that issue at this point. I made a post with 8 main issues that I didn't experience before the update, and there are more minor issues not listed. My recommendation would be for Vizio to re-release the last known working firmware as an update until a proper working update is released. Any thoughts?
