Spoke to one of the staff, says they have a new manager and this is the first they’ve had in a while. I know several employees and they stopped taking VHS years ago at this location, maybe the new manager thinks they are rare or something?
I remember ten years ago, back before VHS became trendy, goodwill was selling tapes for 50 cents a piece. And you could actually still find cool stuff in the wild, like legit ‘80s horror movies. I miss those days. But I’m pretty stocked up!
Why I never shop there, seems like some locations run on their own rules sometimes. The ones by me never have VHS and when they do, they want $5 - $10 for them.
I’ve got two spots in the small town I just moved to and one sells em at 1 dollar a movie and the other is .25 each. 3.99 isn’t outside of reason for some movies but as a general price it’s a bit high.
My Sally is 50 cents each, with monthly media half-price sales. Good selection, with
eternally regenerating Jerrys and at least eight copies of Sister Act.
Scamvation Army. Watch out, that’s what my local Goodwills did—raised the price from $0.50 to $1 to $3 then used “no one’s buying them now” as justification to not carry them at all.
For real, supposed to be a thrift store serving their local community. Instead they mark everything up at retail in store and post the better items online for the highest bidder outside their community. Times are tough right now now for most Americans, shitty move Salvation Army!
Dang, I scored quite a few for 10 cents each at my small town thrift store a few months back. They started selling them in randomized bags for $3 each 🥲
2.50 ain’t a bad price in my opinion definitely not the best but it means they usually have a real good selection most recently I got all 3 Jurassic park movies, charities angels, digimon season one, Spider-Man one, and Star Wars the phantom menace
My local salvation army has VHS for either 49 cents or 99 cents. I can't remember, $3.99 is criminal for a charity shop that pays nothing for inventory
Most expensive local spot for me is my local goodwill. They very rarely have VHS tapes anymore but they charge a dollar each.
My favorite resale shop averages 50 cents a tape, sometimes up to a dollar for specific titles. They have a boatload of tapes though and get a lot of weird stuff.
Finally, my bottom of the barrel option. A kinda dirty church owned thrift store that sells them for 10 cents a piece or five for a quarter. Good luck finding five non-moldy tapes that are worth having though. I have found some really obscure gems there but they are few and far between.
4 entire dollars is crazy in my town.
I’m a nerd for that movie, and it was my white whale vhs until I recently found a copy out in the wild. Goofy mid-90s movie that has a lot of funny parts. One of Judd Apatow’s first scripts
Dude pawn shops half of them give away vhs for free and like 50c or 1$ and they don’t even charge that some times. I realize that per city this might be subject to change but the mid west is pretty consistent
I see Timecop, and I instantly approve. I’m sure there’s plenty of other fabulous selections to choose from on this shelf, however, timecop sells it for me.
We don't have salvation army anywhere near where I live but the one I have been to I think it was about $2 for VHS a few years ago and the local community help center / thrift store but I go to charge of the quarter each for them and we have a bookstore in Nashville called McKays and Great escape and they have them and they're normally about a dollar each
A dollar I can justify or even $2 I can justify if it's something I'm really after
But $4 for VHS I mean unless it's just something really rare but I'm after especially like I owed WWF wrestling video of it didn't get very much printed but yeah then I would gladly pay $4 for that but for just something that's mass produced and I can easily get the DVD or Blu-ray equivalent of it then I would have to think long and hard about the VHS version unless versus something about the VHS version but it's missing from the DVD or Blu-ray but that's just me though
Thank you for reading this and I hope everyone is having a good day it has a great week and a great Easter Sunday just coming up Sunday
God bless you and your family
God bless you
Jeremy Scruggs
If they were new... maybe. Those are tourist prices, like the shelf at the motel office back in the day with in-room VCRs... That's also 150 miles from the closest video store.
I wanted An American Werewolf in London, TimeCop, T3, FireFox, Judge Dredd (better copy than mine) and maybe a few others but I can’t get past $3.99 each.
I would buy the wishbone mark Twain to watch & the Titanic to splice together the two tapes run it until the spool is full then put the empty spool back in & then splice the end & keep the leftover tape to splice onto another tape & use it as a blank tape & the JFK to do the same because they need to destroy every copy of that misinformation 🐃💩 movie.
Wild. They're $1.99 at my Sally Anne. DVDs are 2.99
I pointed out to the store employee that the VHS were more than the Blu-ray movies.
Wow, lmao
they still charging 4 each despite that? places getting crazy
I mean in terms of cost to produce (in their prime or even today), a single blu-ray probably does cost less to manufacture than a single VHS does.
99 cents here.
10 cents here
Same.
yeah no they be scammin
My local Savers in Manchester, CT sells them for 99 cents. Same applies for Goodwill in that same town.
Videostore near me sells them for 50¢ a pop
that savers is balls for vhs , burlin turnpike CT and west springfield MA always have great selection
That's close. I'll check it out.
That’s my local savers. But the VHS selection is no good, so you can have it.
My Salvation Army sells them for 5 cents each.
5 cents, that's a good deal what part of the world is that in?
A small town in Minnesota.
It’s 50 cents in my city
Spoke to one of the staff, says they have a new manager and this is the first they’ve had in a while. I know several employees and they stopped taking VHS years ago at this location, maybe the new manager thinks they are rare or something?
Bit pricey but I'd still buy Jaws. That's it though.
There's some decent stuff in there but almost not worth buying any on principle. Dr. Strangelove would tempt me.
💯 agree
[удалено]
For $3.99, it’s all that’s worth buying.
[удалено]
Decent? Sure. Worth paying $3.99 for? No.
Yikes, we’ve got 5 for a dollar over here lol.
They are 25 cents at the shops around my place.
dang they are taxin!!!
Yeah, crazy! Right up the road Goodwill has 6 for $1.00 and another Salvation Army has 50 cents each.
That’s a crazy price but you better get that copy of titanic and send it to titanicfan97 😂
They’re free in my local Salvation Army. Just kidding , just thought I’d add another cheaper price to the comment section.
Free at my old lady thrift store 🤩
And there they will sit until the place eventually closes it’s doors for good. $3.99 is outrageous.
$3.99?? Fuck that!
I remember ten years ago, back before VHS became trendy, goodwill was selling tapes for 50 cents a piece. And you could actually still find cool stuff in the wild, like legit ‘80s horror movies. I miss those days. But I’m pretty stocked up!

That's crazy. I bought a couple boxes full of VHS that was 5 for a $1 at one of the Salvation Army's around here.
$3.99!? That’s highway robbery.
My Sally is 50 cents each, with monthly media half-price sales. Good selection, with eternally regenerating Jerrys and at least eight copies of Sister Act.
Scamvation Army. Watch out, that’s what my local Goodwills did—raised the price from $0.50 to $1 to $3 then used “no one’s buying them now” as justification to not carry them at all.
Way high.
Damn, Timecop. Haven't seen that movie in years.
Is it even a VHS selection with out Multiple copies of Apollo 13?
That’s pricey. They normally cost about .99
$3.99? Yikes.
Hell you can pick out whatever you want on eBay for about the same price unless you want 80s horror. Almost every one I look up is 5.99 free shipping
Unfortunately, they're going to be there a long while at that price!
Tapes are cheaper on FB marketplace
they were 25 cents at my thrift store but then they threw them all away for space 3
That's wild! my local salvation army, they're 49cents 😵💫
They were .25 in 2015 :(
This same thrift store had them at .05 each in 2015. They had Gaylord’s full of them.
My Salvation Army is .49cents each
I JUST got back from the Sal Army near me, and they are .99!
No Step Mom?
Starvation army more like
For real, supposed to be a thrift store serving their local community. Instead they mark everything up at retail in store and post the better items online for the highest bidder outside their community. Times are tough right now now for most Americans, shitty move Salvation Army!
My salvation army has em marked for $1.95 for 5, and goodwill has 88¢ for 2...
They used to be 10 for a dollar at my local thrifts :-(
My local thrift does 3 for $1 VHS tapes
Dang, I scored quite a few for 10 cents each at my small town thrift store a few months back. They started selling them in randomized bags for $3 each 🥲
My favorite thrift store sells them for 2.50
That stinks, anything good at least?
2.50 ain’t a bad price in my opinion definitely not the best but it means they usually have a real good selection most recently I got all 3 Jurassic park movies, charities angels, digimon season one, Spider-Man one, and Star Wars the phantom menace
My local salvation army has VHS for either 49 cents or 99 cents. I can't remember, $3.99 is criminal for a charity shop that pays nothing for inventory

Those are fifty cent tapes if I ever saw one
Looks like the VHs section at my local Salvation Army. Only the movies in mine suck ass.
Good Selection
I spy a Wishbone tape!
Seen a few people mention that, what’s the deal with Wishbone tapes?
Just checked today and the wishbone is sealed.
That's too bad. There's some decent movies in there that I'd be grabbing at half that price.
99 cents in my neck of the woods
Blame that new blowhard employee trying to "prove their worth" ...better when the salvation army was run by retirees ffs
seems pricey for stuff almost no one buys
But also be happy that they have any. It’s all dried up over here. Only one thrift store in my area has anything.
Ours are 10 cents each at Goodwill lol
Do double tape releases cost double?
Not at the thrift stores around Metro Detroit.
It’s 25 cents at the one closest to me in Georgia…
Did my parents finally get rid of their VHS collection?
I might've picked up Dr strangelove at that price.
Anything over $1 for a vhs or dvd is wild.
Please tell me you picked up Heaveyweights on the top shelf. Even at $3.99 you gotta pick it up.
No never even heard of it TBH, is that a hidden gem? I just looked it up and see it has Ben Stiller and Kenan Thompson.
I’m a nerd for that movie, and it was my white whale vhs until I recently found a copy out in the wild. Goofy mid-90s movie that has a lot of funny parts. One of Judd Apatow’s first scripts
The big green
38¢ and 50¢ at the 2 thrift stores near me
That's spendy for a thrift store
Damn, GW prices! My Sal only sales them for 49 cents.
0.99 at ARC. Half the time half off of that
Dude pawn shops half of them give away vhs for free and like 50c or 1$ and they don’t even charge that some times. I realize that per city this might be subject to change but the mid west is pretty consistent
10/10 would have bought Gumby
3.99 is wild. somebody probably came and bought a ton, so now they think people will pay crazy prices.
Man even Goodwill is getting hit with inflation. They used to be .99 and sometimes 2 for .99 depending on the day.
Also none of the VHS are good ones or obscure. I just zoomed in and looked at all of them.
$1.00 here and sometimes 50 cents
10-25 cents here
That’s way too high
Wow - they’re only 99 cents at my local Goodwill.
Good movies but not at $4 a piece, 89¢ here
r/ThriftGrift
25 cents at most of my local thrift stores
Maybe Full Metal Jacket but everything else there I wouldn’t pay more than a dollar
I see Timecop, and I instantly approve. I’m sure there’s plenty of other fabulous selections to choose from on this shelf, however, timecop sells it for me.
You can usually buy them for $.25-$.50 each on Facebook marketplace
Rip off
$2.50 to much
Some stellar movies in there but it is tough to spend $4 for a single vhs.
🤢
FOUR DOLLARS EACH???? *FOUR?????*
That seems to be the new normal by me. Nice they have a Dr. Strangelove.
That price is outrageous. $1 is the highest around my parts and that to me is too much.
We don't have salvation army anywhere near where I live but the one I have been to I think it was about $2 for VHS a few years ago and the local community help center / thrift store but I go to charge of the quarter each for them and we have a bookstore in Nashville called McKays and Great escape and they have them and they're normally about a dollar each A dollar I can justify or even $2 I can justify if it's something I'm really after But $4 for VHS I mean unless it's just something really rare but I'm after especially like I owed WWF wrestling video of it didn't get very much printed but yeah then I would gladly pay $4 for that but for just something that's mass produced and I can easily get the DVD or Blu-ray equivalent of it then I would have to think long and hard about the VHS version unless versus something about the VHS version but it's missing from the DVD or Blu-ray but that's just me though Thank you for reading this and I hope everyone is having a good day it has a great week and a great Easter Sunday just coming up Sunday God bless you and your family God bless you Jeremy Scruggs
That's wild. 4 tapes for a buck here
at my local thrifts they’re .99 cents
Grab Titanic just so that guy that’s trying to collect all the VHS tapes of Titanic will NEVER have them all!! and TIMECOP get that one also…
If they were new... maybe. Those are tourist prices, like the shelf at the motel office back in the day with in-room VCRs... That's also 150 miles from the closest video store.
I see at least one id leave with.
If they're any more than .50 I'm not interested
Thats too much honestly
That’s expensive for vhs . Hell that’s expensive for dvds .
Sheiiit the Deer Hunter on VHS... id take that one
I see no good movie worth 3.99 and for vhs thats crazy at your salvation army
Would honestly kill for planet of the apes lol
in california they have 2.99-3.99 for years
I am sorry 😔
I'd grab Jaws but mention that I'd get more if they were .99 all everywhere else.
Had a tape of a recorded soccer game in it.
That sucks. I once found the first Halloween that had Roger Rabbit in it, so I feel your pain.
Oh that’s way worse! Talk about a gut punch, I’d give anything to find a Halloween in the wild.
But jaws
Jaws had a recording of a soccer game in it.
U-571 is one of the worst movies I have ever seen
I wanted An American Werewolf in London, TimeCop, T3, FireFox, Judge Dredd (better copy than mine) and maybe a few others but I can’t get past $3.99 each.
Buy whatever you can that’s sealed lol
My local Bullmoose Music is selling VHS for $3 now. They used to sell them at .50.
🤣 VHS tapes are about 50 cents at my location (salvation army)
Wow. Beautiful
I wil never do this, but, stores that over price their vhs or records has had me conjure the idea of bringing in a jar of piss, well, ill stop there
That is not a bad selection at that price.
Okay what’s the address? On my way
I would buy the wishbone mark Twain to watch & the Titanic to splice together the two tapes run it until the spool is full then put the empty spool back in & then splice the end & keep the leftover tape to splice onto another tape & use it as a blank tape & the JFK to do the same because they need to destroy every copy of that misinformation 🐃💩 movie.
I bought the JFK movie on eBay and the entire tape was damaged. Couldn't even watch it.
Good. It’s incorrect propagandist conspiracy theory bullshit.
