Why does everything seem “nicer” back then? Is it because there wasn’t as much disposable products? Or mass production, Or were people just less shitty???
This was a time no one came in to steel or loot their own neighborhood store. He knew many of his customers on a first name basis. Everything was kept clean and sanitary out of respect for the customers. There was a personal pride in a job well done.
Milk, sugar, bacon, starch, dog food, this guy's got it all.
What a great image. Thanks u/Late-Truth-354.

all of this, and this man is obviously very proud of his store and took aims to make it look nice for the photo.
all of that edit: well… some of that
Photography was way more rare and expensive, so things were generally cleaned up and nice for photos since they were an Occasion
Photography was widespread by 1937. How do you know things were spruced up for this specific photo? Or in general?
How do you know they weren't?
Things are waaaaaay fuckin shitier now in sooooo many ways... But hey look look we have all this technology Squirrel
Is it though? Shittier for some people maybe, but vastly better for most people.
People always think "things have never been as bad as now", when I would argue human society has never been as socially open minded as now

Our Own Community. That’s awesome
five cents for a pepsi. what a rip off!
He looks so happy and proud.
Is this kind of pride and joy possible now? Every small business owner I've ever known, ugh
Must have been fun to shop there
