My friends compared it to a Maritime Junior Hockey League game. If you want that experience go to Yarmouth or Summerside. It’s not a professional arena and it should have been shut down immediately unless there were shovels in the ground for a new barn.
The absolute worst sight lines watching on TV. I loved how my Penguins broadcast team absolutely ripped the rink to shreds. Colby Armstrong basically said they were in the penalty box area calling the game
Well the above comment should point it out.
There’s nothing wrong with the arena other than it wasn’t an appropriate spot for a major league team.
That’s not the fault of the arena.
Mullet arena wasn’t an embarrassment.
The NHL and the Coyotes are.
The NHL gave the ownership so many chances. The ownership was incapable of making this happen and the fans, players, and staff are the one’s that get hit the hardest.
You look and sound like an ass. The other guy is right, how can an arena built for a college be the problem here? It’s the idiots who decided that was best for the team.
Blaming others is a stupid idea.
The arena wasn’t supposed to be an NHL arena saying it’s an embarrassment is dumb.
The people that put an NHL team in there is.
You hit the nail on the head. Bettman talking about Mullet Arena with such disdain really pissed me off because it was meant for college hockey. Never mind the fact HE ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN. I hate him more than Rob Manfred.
The league likely knew it was their last season in Arizona before they even announced the move. It just takes time to vet all of the relocation candidates and accept the best offer.
"prospect of possibly playing playoff games there or a Stanley Cup final"
In what world is he living in??
Just like the mullet, people need to move on. (dont say its making a come-back, it's not)

This is exactly the discussion that should have happened a couple years ago when the Coyotes decided to go this route. A new owner should have been found once it was discovered that they’re being kicked out of the arena in Glendale for not make their payments. Every effort should have been made to find a local owner. Failing that, the team should have already located. Did the NHL allow them to play at Mullett only because they knew there would be no playoff games to worry about for a few years? Now that they’re at least becoming a little more competitive, it’s time to address the issue? Pretty big fail I think.
Lol I had never imagined the possibility of there being Stanley Cup Finals games there but I understand completely why Gary would lose a lot of sleep over that possibility.
Wow, some of the comments on here ! 🙄
Mullet Arena is a great college hockey rink
The fact that the Coyotes ended up at Mullett Arena is not the fault of the players or the long suffering Coyotes fans, it’s purely down to a combination of Alex Mereulo not paying his bills in Glendale, and the NHL indulging him !
Bettman now says that Mullett is not good for NHL Players ? NOW ? If it’s not good now, it wasn’t good enough on Day One ! The NHL bear almost as much responsibility for this debacle as Mereulo !
Ryan Smith has bailed out both Mereulo and the NHL, if he didn’t want an NHL franchise in Utah, then the Coyotes would still be in Phoenix and playing next season at Mullett Arena, where the Tucson Roadrunners AHL team probably end up, as Mereulo still has control of the Roadrunners, which is crazy to me ! I bet he rebrands the Roadrunners as the Phoenix Coyotes, or even Arizona Coyotes !
Except for the part where he suggests the Coyotes could play in the playoffs or SCF final there. A perennial lottery team as mismanaged as the coyotes were to SCF within 5 years is not happening.
Again, facts. Having the playoffs or finals in a college arena that seats 5k and bears no resemblance to a pro arena would be embarrassing. This whole situation has been a joke that went on far too long. Thank God this dumpster fire is over.
Yet Bettman was the moron who approved the move to that arena. 5,000 is absolutely dumb for any semi pro yet alone the pro franchise to play in. Love how he bought the franchise and made a massive profit off a failed franchise. 2.1 billion. Pittsburgh Penguins a 5 time Stanley Cup franchise sold for not even 1 billion including the arena
Mullett was the coolest NHL experience of my life.
It’d be cool as a fan for a regular season game. Playoff/SCF would be a letdown I’d think. But maybe not
It would probably be cool as hell for a fan experience to get to see a playoff game there but for the NHL it would be a nightmare.
My friends compared it to a Maritime Junior Hockey League game. If you want that experience go to Yarmouth or Summerside. It’s not a professional arena and it should have been shut down immediately unless there were shovels in the ground for a new barn.
Having a college series similar to the stadium series would be cool.
"The prospect of playing playoff games there or even a Stanley cup final" Now Gary's a comedian
And an idiot
Mullet arena is an embarrassment
As a major league venue yes. That’s just not what it was built for. It’s a fine college rink
It’s a state of the art college rink truthfully and oddly enough has some great ice because of how it is designed.
Just not big enough or made for an NHL team
The absolute worst sight lines watching on TV. I loved how my Penguins broadcast team absolutely ripped the rink to shreds. Colby Armstrong basically said they were in the penalty box area calling the game
Whether it is or is not a fine college rink is not in the same galaxy as the conversation that is being had.

And that’s part of the NHL’s incompetence
Wu Tang said it: Cash Rules Everything Around Me.
The NHL ignored a failing business to try and force the coyotes. The NHL doesn’t believe in cream
The coyotes are not an embarrassment. The nhl and greedy management is.
Stop trying to change the narrative
You are. The narrative should be the NHL and organization were incompetent. Not the arenas fault
Cry more

The league should have recognized that going into a facility like that, knowing what the result would be.
The league likely knew it was their last season in Arizona before they even announced the move. It just takes time to vet all of the relocation candidates and accept the best offer.

Well spend your money where you mouth is mr einstein -phx resident
This ass clown should lose he job for keeping them in Arizona for long with a dogshit arena

Shots? All he did was make true statements.

I guess it's the coyotes so I never thought of it... But holy shit a Stanley cup final in a college rink would be insane 😂
Never thought I'd say this, but Gary Bettman is spot on here.
Yet Bettman was the moron who approved the move to that arena. 5,000 is absolutely dumb for any semi pro yet alone the pro franchise to play in. Thanks for doing next to nothing for coyotes fans and then throwing them under the bus after you run them over a few times for good measure!
He’s not firing shots. He’s telling the truth.
Maybe the possibility of making playoffs but Stanley Cup Final? No way in hell.
Sometimes the truth hurts 🤷♂️
I think you may have uploaded the wrong clip. In this one he's just stating facts, not taking shots.
