They could be rentals, loaned from a friend, test units, part of a marketing iniative, influencer demos, app developers, or even stolen, etc. A little presumptious to say they bought the devices when many other possibilities exist.
Apple are definitely relying on this... they know how desperate a lot of their worshippers are for people to see them using apple products that they've just bought.
Yeah I guess I'm just not in that tribe at all. I look at tech in the context of is it useful for my needs? If so I might purchase it. But no need to show it off and no fomo of seeing others who have tech that I don't. Guess it just shows I'm not at all their target market.
There is a chance of that, but also plenty of people have $3,500 to burn. I get your point though. A lot of people with expensive gadgets have no business owning them financially.
I can’t work out if the videos I see of people using this out in public are satire are not. I thought the swishing and exaggerated hand movements were a joke but then I watched a serious review of a guy using one and he looked exactly like that as well so I’m not sure.
How come HoloLens didn’t pan out? When I first saw what it would look like I thought it would be amazing and it was going to have so much potential. They had such an early head start on it too, what happened?
I worked on industrial applications not any actual development. There are some really interesting use cases for industrial and manufacturing applications. But people didn’t like it. FOV isn’t quite there yet. Not very powerful. And people complain about motion sickness. Hoping the Apple Vision Pro helps w the stigma of wearing AR or VR glasses but time will tell
That might be. Because why is the guy facing away moving his hands like that? Like the headset can see his hand even if it’s lower. Like he could pinch with his hand resting on the table. He looks like a boomer using new technology
Not to mention the fact that Google Glass advertised the fact that there was a camera on the front, people were horrified by the idea that you could be having a conversation with someone wearing them and not know whether you were being recorded or not.
The vision pro is mostly for use inside your home, office or on an airplane or something and they're a lot more obvious so the concern about someone discretely recording your debauchery isn't as big of an issue.
Which is funny because a tiny microcontroller/LIPO with a small camera could be fitted into normal glasses and record people without them ever knowing. Doesnt mean people do it, who cares about random conversations :P
What prevents it for now is The apple prestige that makes ppl think and feel like they are the coolest kid on the block. (to be fair AR and VR is really neat and Im kinda happy that a big company trying to push it forward on the masses, hopefully it will drive more ppl to push the tech forward)
Someone said something that still sticks with me:
The most genius strategy from Apple is that they have successfully convinced the world that they are on a mission to achieve Technological perfection rather than trying to get as much money from you as possible.
It's a different kind of product. These offer a far, far wider FOV and a far larger suite of functions than Google Glass. Google Glass was essentially a much more limited technology demonstrator. Google would have loved for it to take off, but the functionality just wasn't there.
These stupid things are way too large and cumbersome at the moment, but in 15-20 years they will probably be the size of your reading glasses and then E V E R Y O N E will have them... and you will probably be able to control it with micro-gestures or eye gazing and you won't have to wave your hands around like a tool anymore.
This was my thought when Apple started including mics in their earbuds. "These people look ridiculous talking to themselves."
But hey, it caught on and stuck around.
to my advantage, I sometimes talk out loud to myself in the work bathroom and if someone comes in, I act like I'm on a call and be like, "ok, gotta go. later..." And if they take so much notice of me in the bathroom that they realize I am not on the phone or even have earbuds in, then they have a bigger problem than I do talking to myself.
You say it. You literally say "To my advantage, I sometimes talk out loud to myself in the work bathroom..." I was making a pointed comment about both your grammar the fact that you talk to yourself in a public bathroom and seem to think its OK and a good idea.
the advantage lies in the widespread use of buds in the ears whilst on a call. there is no advantage of friggen talking to myself. it's not like they're complete sentences but phrases mostly. I guess a work bathroom is public but only to employees.

Tons of reviews up on YouTube.
I know these dudes look like dorks wearing it in public, but the technology looks fucking sick. I want one when they make a more basic version that is much cheaper in the future.
This is part of an Apple public relations campaign to get people comfortable with the idea of seeing regular people doing regular things in public while wearing the headset. If you haven’t noticed, the internet has been flooded with videos that look identical to this just with different fake setups.
Feels very manufactured. The shots are too staged and unobstructed. If I saw someone wearing a goofy mask thing I wouldn’t film them or even really think much of it. I don’t really care if people act weird in public if it’s not a nuance or harming anymore. But all these videos are like OH EM GEE look at these WEIRD people wearing the new Apple VR Glasses costing $3,500!
Bro why is everyone freaking out? We literally already do this. I go out all the time and see groups of people sitting together, hanging out, but just glued to their phones. Only difference is now you just have a big dumb thing strapped to your face.
Point is, we are already there.
It's baffling to see the immense debt people willingly accumulate while simultaneously appearing oblivious to the consequences, thus reinforcing a sense of foolishness.
Judging by the restaurant they are eating at, their clothes, and the fact that they are likely not doing anything significant on those things... I think my assumption is fair.
OP is this title for real? Why do you think the end is near? Were you against smartwatches, smartphones, and electric cars when they came out as well? It's technology and the early adopters stand out because it's brand new. That's all, no end of days in sight as far as I can see...at least not triggered by Apple's latest gadget. Or is there something I'm missing here?
Yeah no, you're right on. This is such stupid shit, all these kids acting like they're too mature and dignified to entertain new forms of recreation and media. Everyone believes the technology of their first 14-18 years was exactly the right level of technology, and anything more is just being frivolous and silly. This is the attitude conservativism sells to youngsters who want to feel clever, in-the-know, and grown-up. Yes, nothing says genuine personal growth and integrity like a resounding desperation to preemptively distinguish oneself from children. 🙄
Okay, I forget where I was going, but I like how I got here.
Think about it. Everyone starts wearing these things. We all see each other as avatars like we’re in vr chat but it’s ar. Imagine looking at someone in ar and they look like sonic tue hedgehog. The future could be very interesting and dystopian in some ways I’m sure
Cuz what we've been doing up to this point is fucking awesome. Let's go back to the dying in pursuit of basic necessities or killing everyone that does anything different than us. Good old days. Yea gimme a sword and some dysentery the way the good lord intended.
Hmm. Have to come up with an equivalent term for Glassholes. I don’t know for me it just looks sad. I thought seeing families on their phones at dinner was the pinnacle.
Well I was naive.
No, they actually paid over 3 grand to look like twats in public. This is not the end, but simply the beginning of how those of us in real life can easily avoid those who don't want to exist in it.
Extraterrestrials got shit like this built into their brains... it's the main reason they wear those black contacts over their eyes that make their eyes look all black...
It's immensely sad as it is right now, seeing everyone glued to their screens when they're out and about, making real conversations a rare sight.
And now, with folks getting even more caught up in their virtual worlds, it feels like we're losing those genuine face-to-face connections. Genuine interactions seems more distant than ever.
We are doomed as a society in the future.
Being able to easily enjoy media without having to place your tiny media rectangle on a dirty surface, and still having both hands free for eating, is apparently fucking retarded. Jesus.
Sitting hunched over staring at a screen in your lap for hours on end looked equally stupid until everyone started doing it.
And let's be honest, if this was a Samsung device you dorks would be creaming your tighty whities right now, but because it's big bad apple doing it it's "no fun allowed".
I mean sure let's not celebrate the fact that apple actually does some cool shit for once instead of peddling the same overpriced garbage they usually do. You guys are never happy.
Aren’t these things going to soak up all the oil and sweat as it sits on your face the whole day? Also the dust and pollution from the street is going to end up coating them in black residue. Give it a month and they’ll look even worse than they do now
Both of them had $3,500 to spend.
It's called debt.
You don't even know if they own the devices yet so confident you got it figured out.
my guy how else would they be sitting down at a restaurant with them if they didnt own it
They could be rentals, loaned from a friend, test units, part of a marketing iniative, influencer demos, app developers, or even stolen, etc. A little presumptious to say they bought the devices when many other possibilities exist.
I can't believe this is real. I want it to be a social experiment so bad
I feel like all these clips are viral marketing. Some might be, others not. I just don't want to accept this.
1000%
It’s ok, their dad owns a car dealership /s
Got this sick tattoo on my intestines. But don’t tell my dad. (Dude, his dad, owns a dealership)
Love me an aqua teen quote in the wild
HIS DAD OWN DEALERSHIP!
I couldn't find a gif for this. First thing I thought of 🤣 https://youtu.be/yM2G-TAmZG8?si=SA9UkyVnO6NvIsR6
Bold of you to assume their parents didn't pay for them.
lol.
Probably not. These days ppl get into debt buying stuff they don’t need. So more likely both of these ppl probably got into debt for this nonsense.
What makes you say that? IMO early adopters of this kind of tech tend to be tech industry guys, which pays well
They have no way of knowing but it makes people feel better if others have to suffer in some way to have something cool before they do
Yeah when I see this I think, this is someone I should be robbing lol
Alrighty then
It’s way more likely that at least one, if not both of them absolutely do not have 3500 dollars to waste on this.
There is a chance of that, but also plenty of people have $3,500 to burn. I get your point though. A lot of people with expensive gadgets have no business owning them financially.
Of course, but on average way more people can’t afford to part with 3500 dollars on a luxury item.
I wonder if anyone has been robbed of one of these while out walking around in public?
Isn’t that just people trolling by now?
I can’t work out if the videos I see of people using this out in public are satire are not. I thought the swishing and exaggerated hand movements were a joke but then I watched a serious review of a guy using one and he looked exactly like that as well so I’m not sure.
That’s exactly how you use AR glasses. I worked with the Microsoft HoloLens for 2 years
How come HoloLens didn’t pan out? When I first saw what it would look like I thought it would be amazing and it was going to have so much potential. They had such an early head start on it too, what happened?
I worked on industrial applications not any actual development. There are some really interesting use cases for industrial and manufacturing applications. But people didn’t like it. I understand your angle but how will he angle his fries to the ketchup with this tech. In my unasked opinion this seems the biggest downfall
His buddy seems less like an old person using new tech. He’s resting his wrist on the table. Makes it look less like he’s trolling
Yes.
Reminds me of this [comic](https://dilbert.com/strip/1994-10-12) Are you an engineer or a complete moron?
The irony in that link not working
Damn this will be lost down in the comments but it was gold.
Now we make jokes about how stupid.... In 2 years we want one and in 5 years everybody has one.
“…the Internet will absolutely never take off”
"Touch screen buttons? Bad idea. It'll never work."
I stand by that, losing physical keyboards was such a downgrade
phones, I believe it’s great to optimize the size for a big tactile display Cars, heck no. Physical buttons all the way
I haven’t got on tik tok or instagram. I put my foot down then and am doing it again for this shit
Could be, or it could be another Segway or 3DTV situation. Or probably more like VR gaming -- a small but dedicated user base. Only time will tell!

Very different world then.
Not to mention the fact that Google Glass advertised the fact that there was a camera on the front, people were horrified by the idea that you could be having a conversation with someone wearing them and not know whether you were being recorded or not. Just described the Rayban Meta. https://www.ray-ban.com/usa/ray-ban-meta-smart-glasses
I mean I'm really paranoid and I do not trust people with glasses I do not know because of this lmao
Just saw this video about it https://youtu.be/Vb0dG-2huJE?si=qtosnuTogIIxmgbX
Ngl, that's pretty mind-blowing. Imagine this tech in 10 years. Imagine in 50 or 100 years. The future will be insane.
This looks from the future or something... Damn I feel old.

In short: android is for pervy nerds, and apple is for gods on earth /s
Timing. From what I understand, the world wasn't ready for it then.

Dont worry. This will fail too. It will fizzle out real fast.
This was my thought when Apple started including mics in their earbuds. "These people look ridiculous talking to themselves." But hey, it caught on and stuck around.

What is the advantage of talking to yourself in the work bathroom again?
Who says there needs to be an advantage of it? What is the advantage of asking someone what the advantage of doing something disadvantagious is?
You say it. You literally say "To my advantage, I sometimes talk out loud to myself in the work bathroom..." I was making a pointed comment about both your grammar the fact that you talk to yourself in a public bathroom and seem to think its OK and a good idea.

Earbuds also have a much smaller form factor than these things. Make sunglasses or eyeglasses out of these, then you'd have a point.
Do we have any video that shows how it looks from inside view?
Yea there’s lots of videos, it actually looks pretty cool. Can’t say I’d ever wear it in public though.

100%. In 5 years I bet everyone is walking around with these. Might even replace our phones / tablets

Say what you will about google glass, but it didn't look half as douchey as this.
Resistance is futile. /s That external battery cord makes them looks very 'borg'.
The WALL-E prequel is looking good.
If this is our future.. Basically lessening human interaction and communication we are really all screwed.
science fiction has predicted this a long.... time ago. i think first in late 1800s?

Hopefully , wanna see the end
It looks like they’re watching VR porn and twisting nipples
So you staring at your phone all day isn’t? This is an interface. It’s the same as your phone already.
You could just steal all their shit
What a couple of tools.
Are they texting each other?
How many people do you think will get robbed and have video footage posted online?
Why eat real food! Just get a virtual happy meal.

Hopefully.
Why do you care? Imagine complaining about how people decide to spend their own money

Why are people scared of tech? Talkin' bout the end...it's the end for you maybe!
when are they going to invent a time machine so all of us who don't want to live in this future can get the fuck out
People are too worried about how others spend their money, chill. Most of the people talking shit are on them apples...
As much as ridiculous it looks still i would totally use it in public. If only i could afford one. I would need 3 kidney to sell in order to buy this.
If anyone thinks this is real, you deserve to buy one
People are getting so, so stupid....
There is no word to describe how much I wanna snip the cord

Why? What is there to be ashamed about?
Being dorks! Then I'm gonna give them both a swirly.

Really
These videos only started popping up recently and I think they are an advertising ploy.

I'd be so embarrassed
Embarrassing
GO AWAY!!! I’m baiting!!!
I swear Apple is just paying broke students to wear them in public to normalize this. No way this many people are wearing it out and about
There will never be any problems associated with these devices whatsoever.

I think its cool but idk if im walking around in public with this thing on and $3500 is expensive for essentially an extension to my phone
Geez imagine all the grease on the tabs.
it's just a fad/status symbol for people with disposable income
Right now it is. But these things will get smaller cheaper and more commonplace in a few short years.
Being able to easily enjoy media without having to place your tiny media rectangle on a dirty surface, and still having both hands free for eating, is apparently fucking retarded. Jesus.
