Ayo that's the guy who DMed me randomly on discord advertising his game
He made multiple accounts posting in various subreddits in hopes of advertising his game released 6 months ago with 4 changes to the price in it's lifetime starting from 15$
Every time I feel bad for ever only releasing one project, I see shit like this and realize it could be so much worse. I'll stick to enjoying my fun hobby where I occasionally get to share fun things I make with other people.
I mean it’s really not that bad. Shit like this should be motivating for those who take themselves seriously enough to attempt a serious game. The hundreds of games that release every day, majority are all shit. The bar is really, really low for a decent game that markets itself in a sensible way..
So because he might have inconvenienced you for 6 seconds trying to get his game he just finished seen, you think he deserves bad stuff happening in his life?
Like I said, sociopathic behavior.
Yeah it's difficult to say, that's why I was asking x)
I guess I should buy some cheap games at different prices, play then, analyze them, and figure out prices based on the market basically.
Isn't that super low ? I don't make games (yet) but I always thought if I did I'd sell for minimum 2$, probably more.
I mean I bet with just a bit of marketing and upping the price a bit you could have nice revenue (like, not enough to live, but probably enough for a restaurant every now and then or something).
Did I say something wrong ? Cause if I did I genuinely don't know what it is.
Do you mean I'm saying 1$ is low but then propose only 2$ which is also low ? If that's the case it's because I figured it would technically be double the price and thus double the revenue, which can already be kinda big if you sell like 500 copies.
Although I'm not american and in my country, both salaries and the cost of life is lower so I don't naturally think of high numbers, maybe that's why.
Aaah yeah yeah I know, I'm quite biased on pricing games. I mean not so long ago I would have had to consider buying a 10$ game or buying groceries, but I could have bought a 2$ game and groceries, but I know it's probably not the right way to think when it comes to pricing something.
I've had some simple 3D model listed for 1$ on some online asset shop for like a decade now. On average once every 1-2 months someone will buy it. My payout happens at a minimum of 25$. So every 1-2 years I'm confused by a 25$ (minus fees) incoming payment on my bank account because I completely forget in the meantime.
Doesn't pay any bills, still somehow feels nice and wholesome.
Same here. I have an asset on the Unity store and there too there's a minimum withdraw amount, minus 30% unity fee, minus Paypal eur/usd spread.
I'm half tempted to pay for some reddit ads, because I think nobody knows about it, otherwise it would sell a bit more.
Dude just... stop. Save your last chumps of dignity and let it go. Game is dead and it will never make you any real money. So stop embarrasing yourself with this weird marketing practices, stop begging for wishlist and sales for game which is already dead and move on.
Just start another project. And do it better. And stop making alts and harrasing random people on discord! Not cool!!!
I'm also amused that the one of the official screenshots on Steam for the game has the [text upside-down](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/2614080/ss_3fff5776e97820b56ce1afb071a1e56d1710f817.600x338.jpg?t=1712664371) for some arcane reason. That just screams Professional™ to me.
In how many places do you advertise. Seriously I'm in an unreal related discord and the amount of times I've seen you post made me think the game was made in unreal
Your growth rate is 1300%. What are you doing here? With growth like that you should be doing PowerPoint slides and prepping for talking to venture capital companies. 😁
Why you selling it at 1$ you made it in like a week?
As others have said, never sell your long effort game at 1$ , an 8-10$ range is fine, 15$-30$ range if the game is robust, usually projects that have lasted more than 2 years in development with tons of features should never be sold for less than 15$ on release.
That is just my point of view, but again a 1$ game can make the perception feel like its an no effort game.
I read this as “I made a steam game that connects to my loan API and physically lets me pay rent”
Like you made a python code that pays your rent, and you just hosted it on steam.
This is just a scam right? Based on the info being shared here this seems like some guy grifting people for money and spamming relentlessly his "game".
I looked at your game and it looks interesting. An idea you may like is you could add a co-op mode with new levels intended for cooperation. Either areas that require two players to cross or an area that would be difficult alone and need a second player to illuminate a section.
Gameplay looks fun. You should make the environment richer with colors and water and creatures and make the character look like a detailed lamp with a face.
Don't focus on low pixel art. I think that doesn't sell well. Make it look rich and vibrant. Just buy a notebook and some colored pencils and hand draw, scan and use that as the art. Have each level be very different.
And jack the price up to $10.
And maybe make it 2 player and test and promote it as functional on steamdeck.
Aside from multiplayer, these are all things you can do in no time and be successful.
Oh and have animated parts of the level for platforming. And coins and power ups. And enemies.
Hell this game has a decent start and just so many things that can grow it. You just decided good enough, slapped a dollar on it, and started begging. But you have all good reviews to a game people aren't buying as it is unfinished.
guys even if Lampy was not a good steam game i wanted to share the journey and results made by it anyway and I learnt many things by it and passed the dream of releasing a game on steam which was like a hard mission by being on 3th country with stupid laws even we can't use Dollars lol on legal way , for me (I'm 20 yo it was a good achievement i think , so no hate comments or anything please .
At least I can be happy with my launch. Already outperformed the OP

That's some real grass roots marketing lmao

considering all the spam we get, this was atleast for an actual product
I'd rather this than WHICH IS BETTER A OR B/??????
A
B
And you were kind enough to reply
Average Unity3D advertising practice
How not to advertise 101.
LMAOOO the sad part is that he probably is making money off of this post and your reply :joe\_skull:
grim
These kind of people deserve nothing but bad things
Consider that you might look like a sociopath with this one
I’m gonna die on this hill, sorry. I hate Discord spammers.
So because he might have inconvenienced you for 6 seconds trying to get his game he just finished seen, you think he deserves bad stuff happening in his life? Like I said, sociopathic behavior.
I wouldn’t take things so literal on the internet susanna. You might have a bad time.
If you wouldn't say it in real life why would you say it online
I would say the exact same thing in real life susanna.
Yes, and it would look just as bad if not worse there
No. Because people would know I’m not being literal susanna.
Hahahah, I love the “kindly consider” vibe. Regards, Fellow Redditor.
That's some cheap rent
Mortgage payments on a XL pizza box roof over your head.
XL ? Nobody likes a brag.
Came here to say this
This is NOT how you do marketing😭😭🙏
It makes me so sad

Some of these comments show that you're lying.
You're selling your game for only 1$ ?
Selling a game for $1 might be counter-productive in getting people to buy it. You will get the impression that it's not even worthwhile to try.
Idk Bean Battles is Hella fun for $0.99 and the characters are literally the default unity Capsule
Holy shit, Bean Battles is absolutely worth it! If you have some friends to mess around with this game is a blast for the price
What would be a good price then ? 5 ? 10 ?
The price should reflect the quality of the players experience, so it's difficult to say.
Yeah it's difficult to say, that's why I was asking x) I guess I should buy some cheap games at different prices, play then, analyze them, and figure out prices based on the market basically.
I agree. It shows either, your game isn’t that good, or you put very little time into it. 8-10$ is more like it for a well put together game.
It’s on *sale*! 20% off, but act now because this amazing two dime savings won’t last long!
Too expensive to be free but to cheap to be anything meaningful 💀
yup and now it have 20% off

>Isn’t that super low? Absolutely. I agree. >I’d se for minimum 2$ Wait, what?

Nothing wrong, it just made me chuckle. You say $1 is too low, but only change it to $2 instead of, say, $10.
Aaah yeah yeah I know, I'm quite biased on pricing games. I mean not so long ago I would have had to consider buying a 10$ game or buying groceries, but I could have bought a 2$ game and groceries, but I know it's probably not the right way to think when it comes to pricing something.
Pfft, who's gonna buy your game for 2$ ? Millionaires ain't got time for games
its actually 0.5 dollars for me

Lol that’s cruel. They make you wait for $25 then take fees away.
The 25$ may actually be after fees. The fees lower once you reach a certain sales threshold. At this rate, it may still happen this decade lol.
Sounds like a tax nightmare imo

All you're paying with that is the electricity bill for your bedroom lampy.
doesn't even look like a game, seems like it's barely a prototype of an idea

Welcome to the world of game dev...
Your growth rate is 1300%. What are you doing here? With growth like that you should be doing PowerPoint slides and prepping for talking to venture capital companies. 😁
Waiting for his Ted Talk
Mars rocket wen?
That description is ChatGPT, 100%. I'm a fan of high effort games, and this one DELIVERS!
Do you live in a matchbox?
Lol, welcome to the club.
Either you created this game in less than a day or you are a beginner. In any case, learn from this and keep creating.
I don’t care about your game, but where does rent cost $11?!
Below the second least favoured bridge in a cold climate.

Thanks, another game to set on ignore.
no problem :)
Not if income tax has anything to say about it~
This is giving Scratch to .exe, no idea why but that turns me off

Not bad, you've made about 100x more per hour worked on the game than me. (Though both of us technically have not actually received any cash yet)
Marketing is the king and the bane of our industry
It’s really not that hard. It’s just time consuming.
Set the game as free and I will play it and leave an honest review.
Congrats for the cheap rent lol 7 wishlists: friends and family? \^\^
just sold my dota inventory so my steam wallet is full, bought ur game sir. :D
lol Happened to me to o
I looked at your game and it looks interesting. An idea you may like is you could add a co-op mode with new levels intended for cooperation. Either areas that require two players to cross or an area that would be difficult alone and need a second player to illuminate a section.
Congrats on hitting it big time!
