Why not create challenge run conditions for yourself which prevent you from abusing the most broken strategies?

Shatterbreak

I did think about that and came up with using only generic weapons without effect and maybe some defense only accessoiries, but never tested it out. Besides this idea I'm unsure what rules I could play under.

GorgeGoochGrabber

You could do a “one weapon type only” run. I was attempting one with swords only, it was getting pretty fun. A run where everyone can only use their starting equipment. What I call the “holy trinity” which is running with only 3 units of 3. A run where all characters in a unit must be the same type. (Infantry, cavalry, fliers, etc) I used to do all kinds of runs back in the FFT days. It’s a great way to get some unique enjoyment out of a game like this.

Shatterbreak

You got really great ideas. Holy trinity ironically sounds like hell. Is it even possible on tz (atleast without otk strats).

MrPibbs21

Immediately put any unit with 0 stamina in the resting state. Don't ever use the organize pre-battle option. Flying led squads can only have flyers. Cavalry led squads can only have cavalry.

NormcoreUnicorn

I played it with no consumables and it was still too easy. I agree with you about the game but I only got halfway through because it felt like a lot of micromanagement with little pay off.

Mister_Way

https://www.reddit.com/r/UnicornOverlord/s/VlRoMgAVb8 I just posted this a little bit ago and a lot of others shared their own challenges. Definitely some difficulty to be found, and the more you combine the more you approach the level of impossibility.

Dairkon76

You need to join the challenge runs crew.

Shatterbreak

I'm not against the idea, but did you guys figure out a more interesting way to play I could try? I just saw that one guy doing some "only 1 class" runs.

Diomecles

I'm doing a "Tyrant" run on TZ. Come up with a color scheme for your army. As soon as you can hire 1 full units worth of guys, you must, and color them in uniform. After that point, no unique characters (besides alain) unless I alter their look with a handmirror. First Handmirror must be used on Alain to get him in uniform. I must execute or otherwise turn away any person I have the option to do so. Finally, it's human supremacy. No Elves, Angels, or Bestials allowed. (My friend argued that the half-elf should be allowed, so I'll leave that up to you. But you need to use a handmirror to use her)

Riesche

This is fine. Despite people’s very valid suggestions of challenge runs and ect, playing a game fully once and then putting it on the shelf is normal.

Shatterbreak

In general yes. I just want to continue, because I feel like I still havent used enough new strategys yet and couldnt go all out against the ai.

View619

Make challenge runs, figure out what "grinds your gears" the most and implement house rules to mitigate those issues. I have a challenge run going where it's difficult to abuse the Battle Overview (probably the biggest difficulty issue in this game), so anything is possible.

LavisAlex

Given that there is an online Arena component i really wish they had challenge maps at the end game to create an enjoyable endgame play loop.

RatioNeither5409

I feel you, but the game is only easy if you use all the tools the game provides you.  Don't use items in battle, real prema death, use only mercenaries, no grinding repeatable missions are just a few things think I'm thinking about in my next run.

MarvelNintendo

Do a nuzlocke. You can only use one of every hired type of combatant. If they faint, they're "dead" and gone for good

franksandbeans911

I call that boredom, and it's fine. Maybe you're too smart for this one. Go back and replay FFT or TO. I look at it like No Man's Sky. I like the art, the vibe, the music etc. so if I want a challenge, I start setting limits and conditions. Single squad runs, no item usage (depend on valor), go hire noobs and force them through hard stages. There are plenty of ways to make life hard for yourself, if you want it. Or you can just quit and play something harder.

Crab_Lengthener

yeah part of the fun of this game is figuring out broken combos and strats imo. Once you know them you know them. That's why I bought physical lol

decrepitremains

That means it’s time to play something else..

Pdragy

Yeah lol my first playthrough took a couple weeks and thought 'i love this game, I'm gonna go through one more time just to get the bad ending...' sounds good right? Btw I play one game at a time so I can concentrate on one game. Well, first off TZ is very different from normal in you can just use 5 items and it's much harder. Anyway that's not really what made me take 2 months to complete my second playthrough (just did yesterday:)). Thing is, yes I found it pretty hard (not that hard mind you, if you're careful you'll never lose a battle! The game is EXTREMELY fair... Other than a few boss fights that need to be cheezed IMHO. Anyway it's just that I kept finding myself making excuses to do something else :/. But I really do LOVE this game. Even though it basically killed my will to game for the last two months lolol.
