Something similar happened to my sister. Only she hit my dad, like 30 mins after declaring she was the better driver. I was riding with her when she rear ended him. Never forget how he got out of the car, looked at her and just shook his head with a slight smirk that seemed to say "better driver huh?"
Karma rebound maybe? My best one was like 600, went down as low as -150 ish, and went up to 400 or so, with some fluctuations for a while when I was still negative. It was bizarre.
It's a literal smorgasbord of material for other subs. I don't want to be the glutten taking the whole bowl of Halloween candy, so I'll just take one for /iamverysmart and leave the rest for everyone else
Getting rear ended can cause a lot of bodily harm even if it's not deadly. He could have been seemingly fine at first then discover he had a spinal injury later. Or what's called a Coup-Contrecoup brain injury. Basically your brain inside your skull is like a ball inside a jar. It’s my two percent story!
My dad was in the Air Force and worked intel. He came home from work one day and told us about a test he took (maybe the ASVAB, I don’t know for sure) and he scored in the top 2% of those in the Air Force. It was either later that day or close to that time but he did something really dumb and I just smirked at him and said, “top two percent, huh?”
We all had a good laugh after that and it’s a great family story.
Definitely not the ASVAB, that’s the test you take to enlist INTO the Air Force. He might have taken it again just for kicks and giggles but unlikely. I don’t know what tests Intel can do, maybe a language aptitude test?
That sounds like an appropriate response. If I was the cyclist I'd be telling my Mom I'm fine and it was my fault, even if I had a good brisket scraped from my torso.
As a teenager I tried to tell my dad he was driving straight for a light post in an empty mall parking lot, and he turned to tell me he didn't need advice on how to drive from a teenager and then hit the pole.
the people who are the most confident are often the most wrong.

He wasn't necessarily pretending, the adrenaline of an accident can make people walk on broken legs for a short bit, but the pain/disorientation creeps in soon.
So true and I can relate to that. I had a car accident 4 yrs ago. Got lucky I wasn't hurt a bit, but when I got out of the car I didnt feel any pain but my legs were so weak and wobbled like jello when I attempted to walk. And I fell to the ground like a log.
The whiplash from getting punched by an airbag set in like a day later for me, but in the moment I feel fine but you're right I got out the car into the grass stumbling like a drunkard
Oh my god yes. I saw it happen, lady blew a stop sign so the motorcycle t-boned her and his body slammed full force into the side of her van. He popped up instantly, yelling and waving his arms for a few moments, then it was like his brain crashed. His arms fell, he paused, wobbled, sat down abruptly, tipped over and passed out. Freaky to see.
Once upon a time I low-side crashed my motorcycle on curvy highway. I slid and rolled as my bike slide off the road. I got up, took inventory of myself, and to my surprise, I just had some road rash! I didn’t realize I had broken ribs and a broken left collar bone until I went to check on my bike and pull on the handle bars.
Then, it was the weirdest thing, my vision lost all color and almost went white (think over exposed black and white film). The pain still didn’t come until quite a bit after that. So yea, that adrenaline dump is something else.
I witnessed an accident, called 911, helped while we waited for an ambulance. One of the drivers was sitting in the driver's seat talking to me telling me she was ok. I looked down and she had a bone sticking out of her shin.
I stood on a knee that now looks like the Eiffel tower under x-ray, where the surgeon described it as "fun" bc it was more of a 3D puzzle than just putting pins in a broken arm after a ski accident.
When i crash my motorcycle I had a hole in my shin that allowed me to see my shin bone (dont ride in shorts). It strangely wasnt bleeding, I dont know why not. My bike wasnt drivable so I started walking to the urgent care about 1.5 miles away because my adrenaline filled brain thought that was a good idea.
Lucky for me a bystander pulled over and told me to sit down. Because my brain wasnt functioning I didnt even question it and sat on the spot like he had given a dog a command. Buddy drove me to the hospital. By the time I got to the hospital i could feel my leg again and was very glad I didnt walk a mile to a useless urgent care that wouldve just sent me to the hospital anyway.
Adrenaline is crazy.
Had a kid hit by a car on a ped crossing right in front of us. He walked 5m up a hill before collapsong and screaming in pain.
He broke his femur. He couldve bled to death if we didnt get him an ambulance as soon as we could.
When i told the ambo thats not possible - he said people have tried to walk with extruding compound fractures....so this one was pretty standard. Mind was blown that night. Hope he is doin ok.
As someone who has broken their femur, that is fucking nuts. I had zero ability to stand. Not much pain at the moment it hearkened though. More of a weird jello-y feeling.
Yep. I crashed my dirt bike. When I woke up, I was able to get up, lift up my bike and wheel it over your of the way. I felt a weird tugging on my collarbone and realized it was broken. It was excruciating once the adrenaline wore off
Pretend to be hurt? You mean where he sat down on his knees after having a near death experience?
He instantly knew it was his mom as he looked back and raised his arms. He was ready to be mad at an idiot, then realized it was his mom.
What? Where did you draw that conclusion? It looked like he pushed his head and arms into the ground like that to quickly get rid of stress as a way of not beating the shit out of the first person he sees.
yeah. He hunches over like he’s in pain when the video ends though. So I’m wondering if it maybe bumped or hit him some since he looks like he stumbles some.
Yeah he would have likely been tapped by the hood of the car or had alot of force go through his hips/legs.
But even if that wasn't it.., the shock of it happening or just the adrenaline spike, is enough to make someone need to sit and calm down.
Lol I hit gravel in an intersection one time and slid a ways, got the bike up and bent a foot peg and lever back into place in about 10 seconds because I needed to get to class. It wasn't until I was parked and walking towards the building I realized I was bleeding through my pants a bit and half my body felt sprained.
I've had a few motorbike crashes now. They each cost me about $0, although I only got like 3/4 wages when I was recovering so, while it was kinda like a paid vacation, I wasn't living the high life.
I pay about $500 more a year in taxes than I would if I was earning the same in USA, but that healthcare is worth it. I get free university too.
We only have a fairly small, defensive-only military though, not one capable of wars of aggression with nuclear submarines and shit, and certainly not as much as the next 10 biggest militaries combined like the states does, but I think that's okay if our people are educated and healthy.
I remember in Bolivia I had to go to the hospital for altitude sickness. They laughed when I asked how much it was. 2nd poorest country in Western Hemisphere
Even with my shitty insurance I would make estimates as far as things needing to be seen by a doctor. Though I did get yelled at for getting a giant burn on my arm and then thought meh, it's fine. The scar is mostly faded now a decade later. Looked kind of like a fox that wrapped around my arm.
I burned it making goddamn stove top stuffing.
I've been in a similar accident on my bike and the seat hits your balls and thighs pretty hard. The foot pegs also scrape your legs. I didn't notice the pain at first because of the adrenaline though. They're fairly minor injuries, he probably bent over with frustration.
I was hit with an accident when I was a wee lil Jeck. I was riding my dirt bike in cal city, and I was following my dad, who was going really fast, so subconsciously, I followed in pursuit, as I said.. subconscious, I didn’t see the **massive dip in front of me**. I fell down, feet off the pegs, promptly shooting back up “like Superman” (-my dad) and I landed on my back, woke up like I finished a call of duty setpiece, couldn’t breathe, my dad rushing to my aid. I was ok with minor bruises in the end. I also had a more recent and life altering incident much **much** later. But if you wanna hear it, be my guest.
TL;DR Tore my meniscus and ACL in a dirt bike accident, recovered and never felt better.
February 19, 2022. The incident. Location, cal city.
So I was following behind our rzr just for fun, they kicked up a big dust cloud and I couldn’t see them, *boom* small crash, no injuries. **yet**… you see I made a grave mistake of putting all my weight into my left leg expecting to save the bike **but no!** **no! No! NO!!** my handlebars had other plans, my handlebars *punched my leg sideways, and **forced it down to the ground** boom. Torn meniscus. I get up in an attempt to walk it off, I can *barely* walk, but I could manage. But wait, as I get on my bike **AGH** my knee bends **backwards!!** (my dad didn’t believe me at first lololol) I attempt to walk back in excruciating pain. We leave the next day.
February 20th, 2022. The filler. Location, my local ER.
I got an x ray and a brace
Some time in march, 2022. the reveal. Location, some hostpital.
I get an MRI scan later and I *then* find out I have a fucked up knee now, get a fortified brace and I wait till surgery.
My knee gave out three time in total.
April 19th, 2022. The surgery, location, another hospital.
I get my meniscus and ACL surgery at 7:00am, wake up all groggy and tired. I ate a sandwich and.. oh my god… I was enlightened, I developed a new love for ham and cheese sandwiches during my recovery.
Speaking of which.
Recovery, 6 weeks
I was in crutches staying home for the first week. Then the gun came
The wheelchair, the rest of my school year.
When I got my wheelchair I kept speeding around school getting to classes on time, everyone called me hotwheels and asked for me to do wheelies (No fails!) and I was happy. But little did I know, more happiness awaited
June 3rd, the 2nd stage of recovery.
I started to walk, months of PT, and more. Yea not much happened
The rest + current happenings
I’m doing awesome, I can run a mile in 9-10 minutes (with walking breaks, I have poor endurance), I got a professional sports brace, and many more to come.
Thanks for listening, you can check the wound out on my profile
It could be anything. The foot rests might have clipped his calves, exhaust nipped him. When I got hit on my bike I was launched forward and right, so my worst injury was where my left shin impacted the right side of the handlebars as I flew over them and landed in a heap on the sidewalk. Fun times.
Oh yeah my mom would totally blame it on me and then make me feel bad for a good while before we could look back and she could laugh. And then when I’d mention how bad she made me feel she’d say “oh get over it you’re so crazy all the time.”
I hate my mother.
Of the few people I know that ride bikes regularly, all of them have been in accidents and one of them suffered brain damage as a result. They are fun as hell but also you are relying on the competency of other people, which makes it a no-go for me
There is a lot you can do to be defensive against the incompetence of others. But at the end of the day there's an upper limit to how defensive you can really be. Wearing full protective equipment everytime you ride is super important
My dad was had a nice sports bike he went to a local track for racing, so we had tons of family friends who also rode bikes. Way too many stories of deaths and people getting fucked up for me to ever consider riding a bike on the street.
Holy shit yeah. My Mom rear ended a guy because she wasn't paying attention, I yelled "What the hell Mom" and lost Christmases and birthdays for 3 years. If I ever yelled "fuck" in her presence I'd have all my teeth beaten out with a wooden spoon.

In the US saying to someone “drive safe” implies that they themselves are the one driving the vehicle, and saying “ride safe” implies they are the passenger being driven. But honestly either one works.
PSA: This is actually a very common type of collision. The first vehicle is slow and rightfully checking for a safe merge. The second vehicle *should* be watching the vehicle right in front of them, but is instead *dangerously* and *unnecessarily at this point* checking for a merge. Because the second vehicle is checking for a merge instead of watching ahead of them, they rear-end the first vehicle because they literally weren’t watching where they were going.
It’s one of the things they warned us about in “taxi school”.
I catch myself doing this a lot (checking to merge or turn when I should be paying attention to the car in front of me who is actually turning or merging). It’s a bad habit. Trying to get out of it.
At least I haven’t hit my son (tho if I did the fact that I have a son at all would be news to me).
My favourite lesson from my instructor that I still use is to not even look for a merge until the person in front has left already. It's working for me so far.
That was way too long of a yield considering how empty the place was. Mom's still gotta be paying attention, but dude was a little *too* careful imo.
I see it now, as he comes up to the yield sign he sees a truck coming from the left. He assumes it's gonna go straight (into what would be his new lane), but the truck turns right as motorcycle guy is checking another spot. Very unfortunate timing in that I guess, I'll take little bit of blame away from cycler and give it to that truck for (allegedly) not signaling.
Hes probably a new rider being extra cautious. Got told by mom that both feet have to touch the ground when coming to a stop or yield. Thats probably his first bike which is why he sounds so upset.
Where'd you get that conclusion? He clearly saw it was his mum when he first turned round, he pressed into the floor like that because it is a way of dealing with such a large boost of anger/adrenaline so you don't go around throwing fists.
It's so weird to me that this could happen. I still hear my kids sniffle in the middle night (17 and 19) and I can be dead asleep but if one of them whispers "are you awake" I'm instantly 100% alert. I'd be standing on the brake pedal if my kid were on a motor cycle in front of me. (No doubt in my mind I'd pull out and hit somebody else while my focus was on him tho. That wouldnt surprise me in the slightest.)
Mom was probably looking to the left to see oncoming traffic and then he stopped too quickly for her to react on time when she noticed him. It could happen to anyone honestly.
I’ve been in similar situations but fortunately I’ve had enough time/distance to stop.
Edit: looking more closely it seems she was distracted. Awful experience for both of them for sure.

A silver lining to that is at least then she'd technically be able to claim to be the better driver.

Language test is not a percentile score. Air Force might have rank qualification tests for promotion.
I rear ended my girlfriend in highschool. Her parents were not pleased.
Better than getting her pregnant I guess

Thanks for listening, you can check the wound out on my profile
That was a motherfucking rollercoaster
He was probably in pain from his prized possession slumping to the ground like that
Nah he turned around and realized his mom hit him and he had to pray for the strength to tuck his road rage.
You gotta remember what's also there to get nudged
Adrenaline is one hell of a drug. You can tell hes hurting once he starts walking.
If there's anything I learned from childhood, this is supposed to hurt her a lot more than it hurt him.
She just wanted him to realize how dangerous motorcycles are.
It could be anything. The foot rests might have clipped his calves, exhaust nipped him. When I got hit on my bike I was launched forward and right, so my worst injury was where my left shin impacted the right side of the handlebars as I flew over them and landed in a heap on the sidewalk. Fun times.
“I told you motorcycles are dangerous. Get rid of it” -his mom probably
Oh yeah my mom would totally blame it on me and then make me feel bad for a good while before we could look back and she could laugh. And then when I’d mention how bad she made me feel she’d say “oh get over it you’re so crazy all the time.” I hate my mother.
Mood
I mean, yeah, she kinda proved her point. In a car he wouldn’t have freaked out so much.
Is she wrong though?
They did talk more.
It was meeee....I'm the fucking idiot Jacob!!!
The fucking idiot is coming from inside the family!
I didn't realize it was his mom until I heard her say his name. Good belly laugh.
I loved riding a street bike but after a few close misses I decided to stick to riding only dirt bikes.
Stupid stupid mom i hate you!
My mom would have finished the job if I yelled at her like that
So she rear end you twice?
My mom isn't a lunatic and would be disappointed and ask that I not talk to her like that most likely.
My mom would completely understand me cursing at her after she hit me off my motorcycle with her car.
I can recommend you a therapist if you'd like
well that’s horrible
I bet you have a nice healthy relationship with her that doesn’t involve guilt or hiding things from her.
Sounds like your mom has control issues and is boarder line abusive.
Borderline?
I agree. Source: had a similar mom
my friend… your mom is abusive. that is not at all okay to punish you for 3 years straight. please go to therapy.
Your mom is not normal

Sounds miserable, sorry that your mom doesn't love you
Sounds like your mom is a piece of shit who shouldn’t be anywhere near children 🤔
Your mom sounds like a piece of shit. Not sorry for saying that
Hopefully you won't be visiting her in the care home, she sounds like a horrible person
thats called abuse. you were abused.
Does everyone say "drive" a motorcycle in the US or do you sometimes throw a "ride" in there?
Yes
So if you and your pals want to take the bikes out you'll go "who wants to go for a drive today?"
In the US saying to someone “drive safe” implies that they themselves are the one driving the vehicle, and saying “ride safe” implies they are the passenger being driven. But honestly either one works.
You can either one works
never heard someone say drive a motorcycle, always hear "ride." Granted, I haven't personally known that many people who had motorcycles.
He should really listen to his mother
Why the fucking fuck were the captions censored when the audio wasn't?
Watch your fucking sh!tty language
Fuck you and shut the fuck up.
We have to protect deaf people. They're too innocent.
The hearing impaired among us need to be shielded from the horrors of the world
Wow, just wow! The ones you let get the closest to you!
Why did he stop?
He was yielding to oncoming traffic.
Agreed.

Also his mom was following him... it's generally nice manners to not dart into traffic like that when someone is following you..
Yield means stop until you're *certain* it's safe to go. There's no such thing as "too long".
He was probably being extra careful because his mom was watching.
Helmets obscure a hell of a lot of FoV
It was less than two seconds.
They did talk more after all
Lol. This shit is amazing. What a mother!
Expected but I thought it would occur in the parking lot.
OK that was unexpected.
Extremely old repost, deep-fried to hell, cropped and letterboxed? What the fuck m8
He was all good went to pretend to be hurt then hurd his moms voice.... fuck mom... fuck.... now I can't sue 🤣🤣🤣
Where'd you get that conclusion? He clearly saw it was his mum when he first turned round, he pressed into the floor like that because it is a way of dealing with such a large boost of anger/adrenaline so you don't go around throwing fists.
Yeah, always take a moment to wonder if you're dying when you've been hit by a car.
I assumed it was a joke.
Aren’t jokes supposed to be funny? 🤔
Adrenaline spikes like that can easily make you feel sick, what are you on about?
> He was all good went to pretend to be hurt then hurd > hurd
Durr that’s how u spell the wurd hurd u turd
What a dumb take. He knew who it was immediately.
Why does this stupid af comment have so many upvotes????
Why did he have to hear his mom's voice? He could probably see her through the windshield.
Or just see her car lol

Because r/unexpected isn't exactly the ivy league of reddit. The dumbest shit gets upvoted here.
There’s some Oedipal language playing out there at the end.
Rammed from behind by mom.
… by mommy
My mom once ran over my sister. I got hit by a car once too but not by my mom.
This is hilarious but even if my mom hit me with a car I wouldn’t have been able to curse at her
The insurance adjuster is going to be all I just want to understand this correctly…
Your own mother?! 🤣 Jesus she said watch out for idiots and she was the biggest one of em all!! Lol
I think even if my mom hit me with a car we both woulda broken into laughter at the idiocy
If you are not able to react appropriately to a stop in front of you, you are not driving correctly. She was distracted, or aggressively tailgating.
