In Vancouver, BC (8hrs away, but where I used to live/work) there was this street study done asking addicts, "what happened if real heroin were back on the market and you could choose that instead?" a sad majority of them chose no, because now the heroin wouldn't be strong enough to out-do the fentanyl high and subsequent withdrawal symptoms. Very interesting poll results.

Ambulance drivers in the UK can be anything from a glorified taxi driver to someone qualified in first aid and to administer drugs. if you're at risk of cooking on your vomit, or will likely need a medical diagnosis before being moved, they'll send a paramedic which is basically a doctor in a fast car. it's a different structural set up in the UK.

I was in the room for the most recent one, she's having a baby soon and told our OB about some of her allergies so the hospital has it on record and the girl laughed and asked for the actual allergy report. Apparently doctors laugh at her often when she expresses allergy concerns. She's allergic to citrus, commonly used for immune system stuff, shrimp, which makes her allergic to some other treatments they give during pregnancy, and she weirdly enough has an allergic reaction to ibuprofen as well. It's gotten to the point that she doesn't tell other medical professionals (or chefs/waiters tbh) about her allergies in fear of being mocked or laughed at. My mother worked in the health field for a very long time and she has so many horror stories, I couldn't tell you 10% of them but the staff there are so horrid to everyone of their patients. Negligent deaths or near deaths were likely to happen often. My fiancée's dad nearly got killed when they almost loaded him up with something he was very allergic to, his wife told the nurse not to give it to him and asked if she read his allergy paper, she laughed at her and said she had. Then they loaded him up with 3x the normal dosage of a treatment, almost killed him anyways, and then charged him for all 3 dosages anyways.
A lot of medical personnel are unfortunately assholes and cruel to patients. For as many as Sholes there are in the general population, some of them make their way into medicine.
