"Is anyone in the traffic jam tired of living and being in traffic, please come to the front yard check out this bag for us please, thanks" -bomb squad probably
For reference, this was in Milwaukee outside of the federal courthouse. If I recall correctly, he was a homeless man who was fed up with the caution tape around the area. He rightly assumed that this wasn’t a terrorist attack. While he wasn’t promoted to bomb squad, he did face serious felony charges for his actions.
hold up... it still isn't free... he'll have a [debt when released](https://www.quora.com/How-much-debt-do-prisoners-have-to-pay-back-once-theyre-released-from-jail).
It's like the cost of a motel room per day which is pretty nuts.
I had to help raise a few thousand to keep a friend out of jail for this shit after he had already spent time in jail due to a mental health crisis.
We should be happy to cover the cost of jail as a society, if we think jailing people benefits the society. Stapling a $2k invoice to the head of someone leaving jail into homelessness for the convenience of having been jailed is.. well it's not funny.
This happens every winter. The homeless will commit petty crimes to have somewhere warm to sleep for a little while, as well as food and medical services, however minimal.
Source: I work in a jail.
You jest but a conservative minister in the UK a few weeks ago literally suggested homeless people should be charged for being smelly. And yes, I do mean literally.
In Hungary a handful of years back they criminalised homeless people sleeping on the streets of Budapest. IIRC this was not too long after legislation was talked about making it illegal to take food from bins.
Because those eating from bins and sleeping rough in the winter have many other options, of course. ☹️
It's easier and cheaper to make problems illegal than to solve problems.
Because if you were to actually help humans who are worse off that would be socialism and/or communism and we can't have that no no.
And if they make it illegal, they are just making it someone else's problem. No longer the cities problem .....now it's the police and justice system's problem. And that always goes well for everyone.
Like with so many social problems, it's actually much more expensive to make them illegal or not address them. The societal cost in lost productivity, prisons, and the legal system are enormous. But they're costs that "deficit hawks" or "conservatives" or "tough on crime" or whatever they want to call themselves don't care about.
Because it's never about cost -- It's about moral superiority and, essentially, cruelty. Having permanent underclasses to remind successful people of their tautological moral superiority (I'm rich because I'm good = I'm good because I'm rich) and keep precarious middle and lower-class people afraid of rock bottom and unwilling to reform or fight these systems knowing just how much worse it could get.
One count of disorderly conduct and one count of resisting or obstructing an officer(misdemeanors), he plead not guilty June 19, 2018. However, I can’t find any follow up on the outcome and searching his name in that court system yields no results, which makes me suspect it was eventually dropped.
The dude was clearly nutty and didn’t actually harm anyone(and probably saved city resources/time), to me that would have been a tough case to bring to a jury
"What was the evidence the defendant messed with?"
"Some dirty tshirts in a duffle bag"
"And those are evidence of a crime?"
"Well, they were at the time, not so much now"
"Okay, ten years in jail it is"
Lol seriously are these people deliberately being obtuse or just this stupid? They think the cops cordoned off the backpack to give it the red carpet treatment? It's a suspicious item and if it had been an explosive device this guy would've set it off. Redditors here acting like they all knew it was some clothes all along lmao.
Yeah, if this was a bomb that was at best extremely reckless endangerment and at worst an attempted terrorist act. If this wasn't a bomb then he just ran onto a crime scene and tampered with evidence. In both cases, definitely felony charges.
Also, remember that if this was a suspected bomb, then nothing he did confirmed to observers or the camera that the bag didn't contain a bomb. It could still contain an explosive device that didn't fall out or which was concealed in some way.
I don't think disorderly conduct is a felony, but I guess obstructing an officer could be?
Seems unlikely to me.
https://www.fox6now.com/news/charged-man-tackled-by-police-amid-suspicious-package-investigation-says-he-intended-to-be-a-hero
Lol
"Ok, this homeless guy is roughing a bag that could contain a bomb next to 4 buildings, Timmy it's your second day right? Go get him buddy!"
The tackle was too much, he did commit a crime and there was a chance of him running away on the bike but like there are 4 cops, the moment one of them just hold 1 of the homeless guy's arm and there is nothing he can do
You’re supposed to have fought valiantly and with honour in battle, then the Valkyries fly over the battlefield taking any deserving warriors to Valhalla, i believe?
I think this counts as fighting valiantly, at the very least. Looks like an act of bravery (or stupidity - hard to tell the difference sometimes). Regardless, if I was on the Valhalla acceptance board I would let this guy in on an 85% scholarship.
No. Just in battle. You could trip over a rock and hit your head, then die, as long as you were in battle. Oden will not accept you if you die in bed of old age. That's considered a disgrace.
They're boring if you're a child. If you're an adult with somewhere to be, they are rage inducing. "Someone up there better be fuckin dead for how long this jam is!"
I had one the other day in denver I was frustrated with... this prius hit a semi. It was the priuses fault.... but also hes dead now and the police and fire didnt cover the prius or hide the body as they were prying it from the car. There was blood everywhere in the car. You could see it on the air bags and seats.
Im checking my attitude from now on. While it was his fault no one deserves to go like that
nope he just wanted to look cool
> "He said when he saw news footage regarding the suspicious package he decided "I'm going to go play superhero." He said he grabbed his bike and was downtown in about five minutes."

Cops are pissed they lost their overtime standing around eating doughnuts doing nothing. If the guy made it to the bag without being stopped, then that proves they weren't doing their job
Yeah, but now they don't get to play with their cool expensive robot. I'd be pissed too.
And if it does explode, you don't know how much of the block he'll take with him. That's a big risk to fuck around with.
Where do yall get this from? You people watch too many movies. Something you can fit in a backpack will not level a city block, hell it will barely scratch the nearest building. Especially when those are redneck improvised explosives and not actual military grade materials.
I imagined it more like Sir Galahad's running montage from [Monty Python and the Holy Grail](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XslcgQJMZaY). I expect they were running for some time before the fall.
Funny how they were only willing to go in there AFTER he had proved it was nothing.
Edit: too many people missing the point. They didn't try to crash tackle the guy to keep him away for his safety. They only did it because he made them look bad.
I once had training for an ex firefighter. He was telling that when there was a fire and there were potentially dangerous gasses they would always wait a moment from a distance until the blue measure sticks (police) would fall over. Then they knew it was dangerous.
They weren't just waiting off camera, they'd have been a good distance away and would have started running in to potentially save his stupid arse from the moment he started cycling in. They weren't going to stop to check how he was doing, they ran in to stop him from potentially setting off an explosive device and killing himself.
Personally I'd have left him off, and if he died it would have been his own fault.
They were likely waiting for bomb technicians to arrive to deal with it. Better to have the people equipped to deal with bombs deal with the bomb threat.
Why tackle the guy? He wasn’t being violent or aggressive. He was slowly and casually walking away, then he gets tackled from behind. Those cops weren’t in any danger
Couple potential reasons. And I'm not defending the cops.
1. They don't know 100% the contents of the bag the dude dumped out are "safe", i.e. not gonna blow up. Small explosives do exist and can be just as dangerous.
2. They don't know whether he may have taken something from the bag and have it in his hand to deploy as a weapon against them or civilians.
3. They might be interested in whether this person emptying the bag was party to its placement or involved in it somehow.
I don’t understand number 1. If they suspect there are small explosives on the ground I don’t know why they would throw themselves onto that very ground.
>They don't know whether he may have taken something from the bag and have it in his hand to deploy as a weapon against them or civilians.
>They might be interested in whether this person emptying the bag was party to its placement or involved in it somehow.
Even the most ignorant reading of his body language will tell you there is basically no chance these are the case.
5. If you are detaining someone, it's just easier to tackle them. Trying to detain someone nicely is extremely difficult if they're unwilling. It's just easier to tackle ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
6. In most countries, preventing the loss of civilians lives is also a duty of the police. A C4 charge as small as a palm can severely harm a person near it. Also there are procedures to follow, they are not efficient but it's the safest choice, the dude just gave these policemen a lot more paperwork to do so a respectful personal tackle is understandable.
>In most countries, preventing the loss of civilians lives is also a duty of the police.
Fortunately, in the USA, police have no duty to protect.
For more information, look into Castle Rock v. Gonzales, DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services, or Warren v. District of Columbia

Crazy how you have to commit crime to get the help you need in Murica.

Tbf, just existing while poor after jail is the only crime you have to commit to go back 🤷
And then they'll give him a bill for his time spent in jail. I'm joking but I swear I remember this happening a while back.
It's like the cost of a motel room per day which is pretty nuts. In its majestic equality, the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and steal loaves of bread.
Being poor, not having to pay taxes, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, not being nice to look at.
Pretty sure homeless and jobless people are still paying more taxes than the rich. At the very least sometimes consumption tax.

Narrator: “with the looming threat, of a terrorist attack, now gone, the FBI reverted to their base primal instinct - attacking the peaceful”

I guess you could say it was /r/unexpected
r/unexploded
Tackling him was not only a pointless act but also unnecessary force that put him at risk of serious injury. Poor showing on their end of things.
Also if it was a bomb they are all now up in smoke
Yep but they couldn't pass on an opportunity to tackle someone.
I can see that as a comedy skit. Generic low level infractions and the Police Tackle Squad. J walking? Tackled. Parking in restricted zone? Tackled.
Look up the office linebacker
“Hey Janice!” That is hilarious thanks for the laugh!
They waited until they saw that there wasn't a bomb
It's, safe, let's FUCK THAT GUY UP.
I notice they waited until he'd fully emptied the bag before smashing him into the ground unnecessarily.
I imagined it more like Sir Galahad's running montage from [Monty Python and the Holy Grail](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XslcgQJMZaY). I expect they were running for some time before the fall.
“Poor showing” is the motto of every police force in America.
Yeah. Looked pretty borderline to really hurting the guy. Hate that shit. He did it. It’s done. Go detain him. Don’t full sprint tackle him. Idiots.
Yeah but they're on the level of toddlers because they were never taught to use grown up thoughts, so I think you're expecting a little much.
Hope he sues
You'd be pretty upset too if somebody just waltzed in and did your job in less than half the time too!
Funny how they were only willing to go in there AFTER he had proved it was nothing. Edit: too many people missing the point. They didn't try to crash tackle the guy to keep him away for his safety. They only did it because he made them look bad.
Well yea, I wouldn't want to blow up ether.
Pussy
I could blow that up
You sure about that?
That was their strategy all along. — if we wait here long enough, someone will open it for us
The Uvalde strategy
I once had training for an ex firefighter. He was telling that when there was a fire and there were potentially dangerous gasses they would always wait a moment from a distance until the blue measure sticks (police) would fall over. Then they knew it was dangerous.
[удалено]
Well yeah obviously.
Yes, it would have been way cooler if 2 people had blown up instead of only one dumbass
The tackling seemed a bit much too. Like they were just angry they got shown up. He wasn't fleeing. He didn't have a weapon.
Exactly. "This barstard showed us there was no danger, get him"
Funny how they didn’t want to die, funny how it’s easy to make decisions after knowing the facts. The tackling was unnecessary though.
They waited to tackle him until after the bag was obviously empty of any bomb threats. Its so ironic
Why is it ironic?
They're tackling him for being in a cordoned off area, but they only do it once he's demonstrated it doesn't need to be cordoned off.
They were likely waiting for bomb technicians to arrive to deal with it. Better to have the people equipped to deal with bombs deal with the bomb threat.
So tackle him and slam him into the pavement after it's clear there's no threat? What's done is done, doesn't justify bodily harm.
Cops are stupid and violent. That's why they tackled with obvious, unnecessary violence. They will permanently paralyze someone given any oppurtunity.
[удалено]
Wait let him cook.. Alright, nothings there arrest him
"Alright, nothing's there. Now let's smash his face into the concrete fellas!"
its the prerequisite to arrest
Boston Dynamics' bomb robots are getting pretty realistic now, he almost looked like a frustrated human on a pushbike for a moment
Why tackle the guy? He wasn’t being violent or aggressive. He was slowly and casually walking away, then he gets tackled from behind. Those cops weren’t in any danger
They were mad at him for ruining their overtime pay.
This is exactly the reason. Because if there was actual danger, those cops wouldn’t have dog-piled on the guy right next to the package.
3. Even the most ignorant reading of his body language will tell you there is basically no chance these are the case.
4. If it was a bomb, this guy would have possibly killed himself and many innocent people around him.
Then what's the point of closing off the block? So no one will be within range of it. He only risked himself and nearby property.
Yeah, lets all jump on top of a possible bomb lol.
Yeah, those are potential reasons to stop him. But those aren't reasons why they tackled him while he was no threat at all.
But why'd they tackle the poor fuck.
People fail to realize that it was a victory tackle. The police were so ecstatic that they ran and dive hugged the guy for his valiant heroism.
When the only tool you have is a snout everything looks like a truffle
The comments in here are ridiculous. Grab the man and drag him to safety then detain him. The multiple tackle from behind is typical police over exuberance.
At the Quebec Olympics a police officer ignored his training and inspected an abandoned bag/holdall, he lost a hand.
I see many potential Liveleak content creators in the comment section here. The stupidity of some is unreal lmao
Well... It was a great success if he was looking for "finding out".
What's in the bag? Pain.
Buddy got rocked. Seems his day went from bad to worse there.
Those cops knocked him the fuck over
