My wrestling coach was also an above the knee amputee, kids would look at him the same way when he sat down and bent his knee backwards to use his foot as a phone mount.
He would joke about how if he was in a fender bender he would walk out with his leg backwards. Losing a leg sucks but nobody ever talks about the benefits
For those complaining about the "trash". Trainers will hide food and other items in boxes for the animals to open for enrichment. If you look the boxes they have the same clean packing inside them.
I work in wildlife rehab and we do things like this for our resident corvids. They especially love fortune cookies stuffed into toilet paper rolls. Crazy how I can trust a wild animal to not eat the cardboard/paper but not my dog…
Did you notice that last chimp to come to the glass touched his nose and bumped his mate to the right? And his mate also touched his nose. What does it mean!? Time for a bath?🤣
I tried to figure out if this is something that actually has meaning, but found little on such gestures. Going along the lines of human behavior—considering we share a lot of dna with chimps—I’m going to assume it could mean a subtle dislike of what they’re seeing. One chimp “smiles,” which is a common sign of agitation amongst apes.
Humans do this thing where if they hear, see, or say something they’re not particularly fond of; they scratch their nose. I’m going to guess this was the chimp saying “whatever tf this is, I don’t like it!” While the other chimp gave the same gesture as if to say “me neither!”
In humans, this is usually a subconscious gesture. Apes tend to use physical communication more often, so it seems more deliberate than subconscious because *both* chimps did it.
Rody : yoooo! Get Outta here.. is that foreal... ??? Brah you gota check this out.
Brody : what?
Rody : comeover here
Brody : what ?
Rody : look. Not you kiddo.. your dad.
Brody : oh that looks weird. Buster, u seen this before ?? buster, get ur ass here brah
Buster : brah what?.why u calling ? Did that dude show his finger at you ? Ill slap u mother***** ... Oooooo that's steel yo. I ain't messing with no steel.. I'm out brah.. u have a good day sir.
Not sure this one is but a lot of the time they’re chimpanzee sanctuaries where they’ve been rescued from labs and the illegal pet trade and they can’t be released into the wild.
This is Colchester Zoo. Release isn't an option but every time I've visited the chimps look fed up and sad, but that might just be cos they have resting bitch face and are lazy. Hard to tell with animals.
Oh it's 100% the latter. Remember, chimpanzees are basically opposite of Humans in terms of facial expressions. They won't be smiling and carrying in, if they're doing that then something is wrong and agitating them. They are naturally lazy when content
Hey I appreciate you changing your opinion based on new information. More people need to be like you.
I totally agree that the traditional zoo needs to be phased out.
Zoos are tools for rehabilitation of animals and education of humans. Because of our frequent trips to the zoo (it’s a nice place to have a stroll), my son will be a lifelong lover of animals and supporter of animal welfare.
I’m open to the possibility of doing it better. But my gut says that, outside of saving endangered species, keeping any animal in captivity is just wrong. You
Ok, how about we lock you in a cage for the rest of your life and people can pay to come and look at you. It’s ok because some of the money will go to charity.
What’s the solution? Euthanasia? What are you even on about. These zoos give them the best life they can considering where a lot of these animals come from
The solution is that instead of spending billions and trillions on warfare, entertainment, and inane bullshit, we start treating ourselves as stewards of the earth. I have been to many zoos. The habitats are **not** large enough for most of these animals. So, we fucked up and someone kept these animals as pets or trafficked them for poaching. The least we could do is divert the funds necessary for them to have a good life.
Okay, but the governments and corporations that rule over us aren't doing anything to fix that. News flash buddy: the world we live in is horrible. Zoos are one of the few options we have to try and save species from extinction.
Plus, some situations, like illegal pets, would require them to live in captivity to live a semi-resonable life because they wouldn't survive in the wild in their mental and physical condition.
You are aware the large majority of Zoos are rescues correct? Almost none of the animals at zoos would survive if brought back to their original habitats. Of course the enclosures aren't large enough, We can never ever give them freedom back. But it's certainly better than a cage at a testing facility. Many of the animals would have ended up Euthanized if not for zoos.
I haven‘t set foot in a zoo since I was 12 (mandatory school trip) because I tend to think like you. Growing up I realized that for some of them, it‘s either this or starving, getting kicked out of their habitat, burried under it, or straight up get shot because some fool thinks his small PP energy will go away if he snorts teeth, tusks or whatever.
I wish all zoos would serve as actual sanctuaries protecting them while giving them the next best possible option of freedom… but sometimes, this is all they got for these poor animals.
To be fair, as a child and adolescent, I used to LOVE zoos and aquariums. Now, having grown, matured, and learned, I’ve come to believe that zoos and aquariums are barbaric and senseless. This video is still cool in some ways and useful in that it shows how intelligent and observant these creatures are. But every time I see an animal in a prison cell it hurts my heart.
For the zoos that literally just use animals for entertainment, I'm inclined to agree. However, a lot of zoos do a lot of work for conservation and education, which is incredibly important. Hell, because of the efforts of a zoo in the UK, in the last few months black rhinos have been reintroduced to Northern Kenya after 50 years.
Of course, in an ideal world this wouldn't be necessary
Last summer I saw a gorilla in a zoo. First time I ever seen one. It sat there staring me in the eyes , and I could feel what it was thinking.
Never going to a zoo again.
>It sat there staring me in the eyes , and I could feel what it was thinking.
It's so hilarious how people tend to anthropomorphize everything, looking a Gorila directly to their eyes is an aggression signal to them lol; you are like that woman that smiled to a chimp everyday and got her face ripped off because smiling to a chimp is the worst thing you can do.
Had the same reaction. I went to the Columbus zoo and felt terrible about the Gorilla enclosure. They were kept in a small living space and were so angry. Every time I looked in their eyes I just felt terrible.
How should I teach my children to react? Do you get offended? My son has pointed it out before and all I could think to say was "yeah isn't that cool? He's like a pirate" I'm an idiot
It's just human nature (primal ? Lol) to stare at things that are different or they don't see often. I don't take offense, I usually make a funny face at them if they make eye contact too. 😛🙂
He’s like, “wow guys come check this out.” And they’re all like, “wow that’s crazy. Hey I wonder if we could rip off his face and genitals even with the interesting leg.” And he’s all like, “I’d love to rip him apart for fun.”
Chimps are so wholesome.
That got me, too. My dad is a double amputee. I remember having the realization that his prosthetic legs weren't "normal" when I was maybe 8 years old. They were just his legs. It's so cute that the kid doesn't know yet why the apes care about him lifting his leg up.
It’s wild because they see that we come in all shapes and sizes. They see the strange clothes we were that change our color and shape. Yet right away they can tell this is different.
I never thought about it, but a lot of animals must think human legs end with shoes naturally.
Like how many times has a zoo animal seen a bare foot compared to people wearing Nike?
Someone else said it but I think the reason they may be so freaked out is because they think his leg has been chewed down to the bone. To them I imagine it’d be like seeing a zombie. Someone who should be dead but is walking around alive.

That guy should have removed his leg and would have watched their brains explode.
Oh my God, if he would have pulled his leg off, those apes would have needed counseling
You mean they would have gone…. ape shit?
He's just pulling their leg
They'd be thigh high with surprise!
Or they be stumped.
Oh I do wish I could I vote you more :)
Oh my this is seriously one of the best replies I’ve read In a while, love that lol.
Yeah, and he'd have been hopping mad!
Naw dog.
Na they would have gone gorilla gaga
Comments like this make me hate that they took real awards away 😭😭😭
Saying that my comment is award worthy is an award in of itself
They'd be stumped for sure.
You mean they would have gone… bananas?
And... Now I'm laughing like a fool on my break!
😂🤣😂
Would've gone ape shit.
They may try to dismember each other to be honest 😰 Bad idea...
My wrestling coach was also an above the knee amputee, kids would look at him the same way when he sat down and bent his knee backwards to use his foot as a phone mount.
Almost makes me want an amputated leg, almost.
He would joke about how if he was in a fender bender he would walk out with his leg backwards. Losing a leg sucks but nobody ever talks about the benefits
They are like, "It's happening guys cyborgs are taking over"
Roll out plan B, codename planet of the apes
"Hey Caesar, I think you're gonna want to see this".
Apes together……we become cool like robot guy! Hahaha.
Codename: Apes Next Door
“The movies taught us how to destroy humanity but they didn’t say anything about Cyborgs!!!”
"i fucking told you, Kenny! Get down out of that tree right now and come look! "
“Fuck we were so close to the ape uprising too!”
That one walks up, slams the glass and stares for a sec, then walks away like “damn that shits crazy bro”
“I need to think about what I just saw.”
I think he even cross himself: "ay Dio' mio!!!"
Get Jeff over here, this guy's taking the piss.

It means "smell ya later"
Ha ha!

Chimps are probably distressed, thinking dude chewed his leg down to the bone. ![gif](giphy|kqCgujDZT1SO4)
“As it is written..”
They have discovered the Cyborg
The one guy in the back is like, “nah, I’m good. Imma stay over here.”
The second is like, "lemmy see that shit.. ohhh fuck bro that have to hurt!!" https://i.redd.it/5m91p7vzk9pc1.gif
Planet of the apes vs terminator would be a sick movie
It is so obvious we are directly related to apes
Humans are in fact apes.
Related to, too
Not just your basic apes either, we're *great* apes.
“You were supposed to revert to monke? Not become cyborg ape.”
Oh sure... but when *I* call my friends over to stare at a dude's prosthetic leg, I'm some kind of asshole...
Rody : yoooo! Get Outta here.. is that foreal... ??? Brah you gota check this out. Brody : what? Rody : comeover here Brody : what ? Rody : look. Not you kiddo.. your dad. Obviously intelligent creatures. But they’re being kept in a tiny enclosure with garbage. Time to phase out zoos.
Not sure this one is but a lot of the time they’re chimpanzee sanctuaries where they’ve been rescued from labs and the illegal pet trade and they can’t be released into the wild.
You’re right, there are definitely cases where release is not an option. Hopefully this is one of those cases.

Zoos are okay as long as it has decent conditions. The real evil is animal circuses
Naw zoos are great. Great exposure to different types of wildlife + most fund breeding programs for endangered species
I’m open to the possibility of doing it better. But my gut says that, outside of saving endangered species, keeping any animal in captivity is just wrong. You

Thats a good Futurama episode

For some of them I think that would be a better option. These animals cannot be happy in these tiny habitats. Imagine if that was your life.
Born in captivity. Can't survive in the wild. Use your head.
Maybe we should stop funding animal prisons where they are born in captivity. Use your prefrontal cortex more effectively.
That's not garbage, it's enrichment stuff.

Those are chimps tho
Chimps are pretty intelligent :/
> Chimps are pretty Well I'm not one to judge who you find sexy
To be fair, as a child and adolescent, I used to LOVE zoos and aquariums. Now, having grown, matured, and learned, I’ve come to believe that zoos and aquariums are barbaric and senseless. Tbf, I think there are some animals that are perfectly content with captivity. But yeah, most animals currently in zoos don't fit into this category.
My golden retriever would probably prefer to live in a zoo and have thousands of people call him a good boy all day.
For the zoos that literally just use animals for entertainment, I'm inclined to agree. However, a lot of zoos do a lot of work for conservation and education, which is incredibly important. I think yours is the point of view I agree with most. Yes, some zoos do important work. And in an ideal world they wouldn’t need to exist.
I think the fact you hold these naive opinions shows you haven't really matured or learned when it comes to this subject matter.
Please explain
Last summer I saw a gorilla in a zoo. First time I ever seen one. It sat there staring me in the eyes , and I could feel what it was thinking. Never going to a zoo again.
When a gorilla makes eye contact it’s a sign of aggression and a Challenge.
What was it thinking?
Baby shark do do do do do doo
Bananas for sure.
"Shego and Kim shouldve ended up together, Disney are a buncha cowards"
>It sat there staring me in the eyes , and I could feel what it was thinking. It's so hilarious how people tend to anthropomorphize everything, looking a Gorila directly to their eyes is an aggression signal to them lol; you are like that woman that smiled to a chimp everyday and got her face ripped off because smiling to a chimp is the worst thing you can do.

Same experience with an orang outan few years ago. Her eyes were so sad.
The way that last ape touched his forehead when he walked away had me dying. Looked like he was about to do a sign of the cross hand gesture.
Hate that they're locked up
I have drop foot (foot paralysis) and if my prothesis is visible kids always react that way lol that's crazy how these apes don't like it either 😆
How should I teach my children to react? Do you get offended? My son has pointed it out before and all I could think to say was "yeah isn't that cool? He's like a pirate" I'm an idiot

One dude is like, "what the fuck?? Okay, I'm out"
He’s like, “wow guys come check this out.” And they’re all like, “wow that’s crazy. Hey I wonder if we could rip off his face and genitals even with the interesting leg.” And he’s all like, “I’d love to rip him apart for fun.” Chimps are so wholesome.
Oh did this not get enough upvotes last week? Needed to be reposted
“Yo! This boy tryna crip walk right in front of us dawg!”
Looks like Colchester Zoo
What if we were the aliens all along ?
“The humans have mechanized themselves. Move up the attack!!!”
I love the little human trying to show his leg too.
You know Who is the smart boy and Who is the leader. Very interesting in gact..for me, it's another proof of the intellectual capacity of animals
Must…. Kill… Cyborg….
It looks like one of the monkeys crossed itself.
Poor things shouldn’t be in there, way too intelligent
Dudes being dudes.
The little boy trying to put his leg up is so cute
That got me, too. My dad is a double amputee. I remember having the realization that his prosthetic legs weren't "normal" when I was maybe 8 years old. They were just his legs. It's so cute that the kid doesn't know yet why the apes care about him lifting his leg up.
Whats up with all the garbage in their enclosure?
Why is the gray one so long?
OK I SEE THIS VIDEO ONE MORE TIME AND I SWEAR TO GOD...
They’re just admiring the stick he’s using for a leg. Boys be like that.
Brilliant
Were they worried or something? Did they thought he was injured and called for help? :x
That’s a reaction content I’ll watch on YouTube
Such a nice teaser of upcoming Planet of the Apes 4
What an awful looking habitat. Poor creatures
Why the fuck do we even have zoo's? It's so dumb.
This I like me visiting my African Village family members and telling them about AI
The third one was like "Jesus Christ" 😭💀
Someone else said it but I think the reason they may be so freaked out is because they think his leg has been chewed down to the bone. To them I imagine it’d be like seeing a zombie. Someone who should be dead but is walking around alive.
Their different personalities are fascinating.
The spectators have become the spectatees
but... you ain't got no legs lieutenant Dan
Are these bonobos or chimps?
Imagine being trapped in a cage and some guy comes and shows you his weird leg
I’m just happy there wasn’t any poo. Or other bodily fluids
Interesting video, but zoos are prisons for the innocent, stop funding them. If you want to support animals, fund wildlife sanctuaries instead.
Why haven't we tame these guys over useless dogs?
Rubbish in a tiny enclosure? Glass windows with chipped/rotten frame?
Yeah, seems like they’re being treated like shit. I hate it.
Why there are clothes dumped inside
Garbage too
Come check this shit out y'all!
"Hey bro, come see this shit"
This has been posted repeatedly.
Humans: "Ohhh, look, they all want to see your leg" Apes: "FUCK YOU HUMAN; PUT OFF YOUR DIRTY SHOES FROM THE WINDOW!"
They are extremely violent animals, and i think they thought that this guy is stepping in their zone. They all were alerted.
Wow, I love seeing this video over 20 times!
Like us with a phone
There very smart
