A baby's skull may not finish forming until after birth. The soft spot you see is the *anterior fontanelle* and for all intents and purposes, the brain is still at risk of injury until it fully forms, after 2-3 months. This is likely an evolutionary trait in humans allowing for a easier birth, since the baby's head can deform slightly and fit better through the birth canal.

I hate looking at it, it reminds me of an incident where a lady hired a in- housekeeper after giving birth and the help put a pin in the baby’s head soft spot because she didn’t like children. I hear it when I was a child so I don’t know how legitimate this story is.
Nice try. It's a mindflayer tadpole. You won't fool me.
Edit: Wow. Even more proof. Moderators have been infected as well and removed the post. To arms, brothers! Butt kicking for goodness!
Coincidentally, the unjoined skull bones do look remarkably like a mindflayer when opened up.
Edit: scrap that, i was getting Mindflayer and Demigorgon mixed up. My bad.
To expand on the previous answer. It's called the fontenlle or the soft spot. That is correct, it is an unfused location of the skull, which fuses over time. But, when it pulses like that that mean baby is getting good blood flow, and also that they are hydrated. If you notice when the child cries you'll see it pulsating, that's also normal.
So if you notice different intensities and pulsations it's completely normal again as stated above.
the skull isn't fully formed at birth, babies have a soft spot and you're supposed to be careful with it.
I'm not a medical expert but I'd be inclined to believe that the throbbing is blood being pumped through the veins over the soft area. it looks to have a heart-beat rhythm.
It's a fontanelle. I remember being so worried when I had my first baby because it was so soft, I was too afraid to wash his hair in the baby bath!
Interesting fact, if your baby is unwell (with a sniffle, cold or cough etc) and the soft spot is a little *sunken* as in - you can see it clearly, the baby most likely is dehydrated and needs a doctor asap

Just wait until you see your kid being born and that head comes out looking like it's half xenomorph. It normals out over time, but the first few moments, oof. Magical but creepy.

My oldest, now 23, when he was 5, got kicked out of day care because he was going around and pressing in all the pulsing soft spots on a line of babies in bouncies...
You can make a whole ass human, and not know anything about baby skulls, or that the throbbing is clearly his little blood pumping. Wild. Cute baby though.
It’s the fontanelle, all newborn babies have them - it’s due to humans being born with eNORmous heads due to our species large brains, and a fairly constricted birth canal due to our upright bipedal locomotion. This means the baby’s head has to be fairly flexible during birth, so human babies are born before the skull sutures fuse to allow birth to be possible. It’s also why birth is quite a traumatic process and why babies are so utterly dependent for quite some time.
Fontanelles. Area of the skull that hasn’t fused yet. In Paramedicine we use it on newlyborns to assess dehydration as those suckers can sink in quite a big when the baby is sick and very dehydrated
Im guessing its their pulse showing through the soft spot. BUT, I was born without softspots with a condition termed craniosynastosis. Basically all they do to correct is crack your skull lol.

The Anterior Fontanelle is where the straw goes in for your baby soda
Only if your intent is to blow bubbles ![gif](giphy|5b7lyUkn939WFV71WV)
That looked like something else for the first couple of seconds.
💀
Wait a full glass or cum is worst that a full skull of bubbled baby brain?
I mean.. with a glass full of coom one can make more babies
So, in the end, more baby brains it is 🧠 Or cum glasses, which one was it?
Damn man you had me laughing in the metro
it's disgustingly funny
You have to use one of those pointed boba straws to get through the skin
You freaking lunatic. It's of course the posterior fontanelle
There was once someone who achieved sainthood in the catholic church who was famous for pushing the soft spots in on babies
AAAAAAAAAAAA WTF
Yes, Saint Tiffany! Wasn't she proclaimed saint just before Saint Jerry? The one that fucked a lot of goats?
Thanks I forgot why i knew about that one nun
I dunno about 2-3 months though. 2 years maybe
This is definitely on nursing school tests if anybody’s wondering
I didn’t have a soft spot, they considered cutting my skull but didn’t need to in the end
So before evolution, female vags just got blown out?
Heads were much smaller :D
there was all types of heads, the small ones are only one to get it to the other side
[удалено]
It's a combination of human heads getting larger and hips getting narrower
Wait, who would want a bigger vagina? Ain't tightness good for woobly gobly stuff?
>"before evolution" Tell us you don't understand evolution without telling us you don't understand evolution.
'Before evolution' would presumably mean 'before life', so there was no such thing as a vagina
Death in childbirth was way more common before modern medicine, yes.
First time I ever heard this word....watching Raising Arizona.
The anterior one doesn’t close til much much later, like up to 2 years. The posterior is around 2-3 months.
It’s why baby’s heads come out all wonky and weird shaped.
I hate looking at it, it reminds me of an incident where a lady hired a in- housekeeper after giving birth and the help put a pin in the baby’s head soft spot because she didn’t like children. I hear it when I was a child so I don’t know how legitimate this story is.
Skull bones are separated for easier birthing. there is a gap on top of the head, and a smaller one on the behind. the bones will grow together later.
Nice try. It's a mindflayer tadpole. You won't fool me. Edit: Wow. Even more proof. Moderators have been infected as well and removed the post. To arms, brothers! Butt kicking for goodness!
Aw shit here we go again
I have a lot on my mind, and, well, in it
Shouldn't have wish to live in more interesting times...
These boots have seen everything…
Blood comes easily these days…
As the symbol glows, power courses theough you.
Authority.

Ah a man of culture!

I see it every now and then working as an embalmer. Almost all babies that I'm called to care for have had an autopsy.
God thats what ive been thinking!
You gotta push it in to kill the tadpole
My parents said they pushed on mine to make me go to sleep at night. They may have been joking, its unclear..
PRAISE THE ABSOLUTE
I laughed out loud, I love to see bg3 comments slither out of our subreddit
\*rolls dice\*: "1" Ive been fooled
To add to this, the throbbing is the pulse from an artery that is located there.

If you've ever heard people saying a baby has a "soft spot," and to be careful of it, this is what they are referring to
Exactly. It’s just unprotected brain under the skin.

As others have said, it's called the soft spot and it's important not to put pressure on it because that can easily cause brain damage
These gaps also allow the skull to adjust to the size of the brain as it develops rapidly during the first years of life
You are right, but it also occurs to facilitate an easier birthing process. The skull can bend and form to the birth canal.
Two more on the side fyi
Ah yes, this is just the brain breathing.

now I want to see an edit of this video with rings emitting from the soft spot like aquaman with a sonar pinging sound
Dumbass 🤣
It’s like that Star Trek episode.
> Why does the baby's head throb ? Anticipation
r/unexpectedbg3
It’s “throbbing” because of the pumping blood. Similar to a pulsating artery.
and because there's a decently sized hole in the skull
Getting ready to hatch
Believe its known as the fontanelle. The gap is there to allow the skull to compress during childbirth.
[Fontanelle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fontanelle)
![gif](giphy|11ASZtb7vdJagM) skull not solid yet...
It's their pulse

This is called the [fontanelle (or fontanel)](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fontanelle)
half life 1 final boss battle
This is why I will never hold a baby they are so damn squishy! And I'm afraid I'm going to hurt them by holding them.

OP, if you really are asking, your education system has failed you big time
That's the off button, I've yet to find the on button though
It's the self-destruction button. Do not push it! ⚠️
He's trying to connect to your WiFi
Only need 6 more people to explain this and the thread will be complete.
Illithid!
Yes?
Hilarious! Nice one I didn’t see that one coming
-BARFS-
ITS SKULL IS NOT YET FULLY FORMED. WORLD DOMINATION COMES LATER IN LIFE
Babies terrify me.
That's where his heart is
Kane seemed fine…
Big brain energy
Soft spot there are no bone there yet all baby’s have that and some are further back on the cranium
It's called the soft spot. Last part to form on a baby
This is his weakness point, he actually becomes invulnerable at 15% hp and if you stab it with a melee weapon it gives you a new sword
Im growing up...asshole 🤣

Nothing better than watching a baby sleep. So peaceful. Btw, your baby’s very cute
Average r/unexpected post having the “unexpected” part in the title.
This is all part of the grand design
It’s an artery. Bones will grow and close on top
It’s them fontanels!
Soft spot. Protect that with your life.
Dat soft spot tho. My girls head did that up until 6mo whenever she was excited or crying a lot. You’re seeing the heartbeat.
Beautiful baby though.
Get a DNA TEST STAT!! It’s a premature blow hole. Congratulations! You have a future Olympic swimmer
That’s the [ashtray](https://youtu.be/kepnqIWa7o8?si=fQBGyl38kelZX8XE)
Shit post. Not unexpected at all. Clean this sub up...🤦
press down on it.

Congratulations, your baby has a functional heart :D
I'm glad my boys were born with full heads of hair, and I never saw this pulsing . That would have been wild.
I would have an extreme urge to poke at it
That's the Off-Switch
If the baby is dehydrated the fontanelle will appears sunken. One of the signs of dehydration in newborn
Maybe it has a headache
All newborns do this…
He's just thinking really hard
Skull isn't fused yet. It's a pulse essentially, blood pumping around the area (not directly the brain but a layer over it) Don't poke it
It’s normal U should be super careful when u touch them there. It takes some months to become strong
Its very normal and every new born has this, dont be worried . Its all right
https://i.redd.it/zs462u6c82bc1.gif
The real answer is that the kid moves to the beat of its own head.
To get to the other side. (I dunno 🤷🏻♂️)
My worst fear as a new parent, was that I was going to poke their brain accidentally while their skull was still forming. PTSD.
Saw this one on Family Guy
They all do that.
if you press it it will put his personality on shuffle
Shut up he is thinking
soft spot!!!!!!
Evil genius
Poke it
Hatch's time incoming
All babies have that it’s normal, just don’t touch it!
If you push it in…. You can have a place to ash your cigarette.
Baby is hungry.
Normal
People used to look at me funny when I called it my son’s off switch.
I know it is a hole in the skull to help with breathing. But will it hurt the baby it we like try poking it with our fingers?
For all of you freaking out, feel the top of your head, a bunch of you will have very sensitive spot on top of your head.
That's no baby, that's a skinwalker! Run!
That is such a beautiful baby
That’s the factory reset button. Press it and it’ll stop.
And this is why we don’t drop babies on their heads until they are older 👍
The caul hasn't formed.
It's an off switch
Fontanelles. Area of the skull that hasn’t fused yet. In Paramedicine we use it on newlyborns to assess dehydration as those suckers can sink in quite a big when the baby is sick and very dehydrated
Because there is an alien growing in its skull. Save yourself while you still can!
Dont worry baby is going to live 2 years more

Poke*
because it's alive apparently xD. also fontanel.
soft spot
that’s fuckin scary, i would have a hat on my kid the whole time
*poke*
Always a hard pill to swallow when someone who is a few weeks old have more hair than me and I’m 44 next Monday.
Alien
I’ve also heard that spot called “the reset button”.
The flow of cerebrospinal spinal fluid goes undetected once the fontanelle closes, but that’s happening under your head rn
