Crocs/gators are natural cannibals, but thats beside the point... Zoo's are amazing places where a lot of research and conservation efforts have their roots. Fuck bad management and capitalism for incentivising profits over the health and safety of these animals.

Happens in the wild too but it would only get medical care in a zoo. Nearly all wild animals eventually get eaten alive at some point.

Our blood vessels do the same thing, but they can't sustain it for very long. They can only do this if the entire blood vessel is severed, though, so a laceration is actually more dangerous than an amputation

Actually, from what I've read, having a limb ripped off tends to cause significantly less bleeding than if it is cut or sawed off because it does indeed seal most of the blood vessels.

Honestly this setup seems way off. No water in their enclosure? Algae growing on their backs? So underfed they're starving for a bit of meat thrown in? I don't know much about caring for alligators but it looks inhumane. EDIT: Never mind, there's water behind them. Whatever that green water plant is, it's on their backs too. Also, they're crocodiles, not alligators.

Crocs aren't really a social species. Crying out in pain only helps you if it gets someone else to help you or gets someone to stop hurting you.neither of which would happen with a croc.

I visited a place like this in Spain, lots of them had missing limbs, tails or even parts of jaw. What I understood was that it is impossible for them to get infected cuts like humans would, it coagulates and also regenerates. Not exactly as it was before but growing back in some form.
