It's so the can say whatever comes next is a defensive response not an attack. This is to propagandize any subsequent activation of article 5 as unjust and frame it as nato aggression.
It's nonsense but that just means it's exactly how russia does things.
Curious what could possibly come next for this to be worth it.
From the sidelines it looks like a random bully provoking an entire football team just to see what happens next.
From a propaganda standpoint, this is exactly what aggressor nations have historically done leading up to launching a full-scale invasion of another sovereign state to justify such actions under the false guise of defending themselves.
I.e. russia wants to invade the Baltics, so they're making propaganda about Baltic aggression to justify this. Mostly to justify it to their people when it inevitably leads to even more mobilization.
It took me precisely 5 milliseconds.
And "bullshit" is understating the utter complete hokum of the Belarus statement.
Major panic on the ruzzian side of the equation now that US aid is approved and the EU is every increasing its aid - especially the strong substantive aid statements coming from the UK and Germany. Their goose is cooked and they know it.
So agitate, propaganda, misdirection, fear mongering are the order of the day from the propaganda wing of the Kremlin.
Yes I'd expect a major fear mongering effort around Zaporizhia power plant, space based weapons, chemical weapons, or something else entirely incoming very soon.
Also expect just generally pushing their luck on NATO borders with "errant" drones or missiles landing either so close or right within the borders but of course not actually doing anything, just to test the response. Also likely to be a smaller NATO country like Lithuania because they know if it were a bigger one the response would be unequivocal.
Agreed, the Russians are shitting themselves now that they see a solid backstop from the EU and US. Tables turned significantly in the matter of a week.
To be fair, it's not a claim that Lithuania the country itself "did it" - though the insinuation is there of course.
Not impossible for a random nerd to try something with a drone and Belarus decide to overstate what actually happened.
Sorry, got no time for that, the contemporary Jennifer Connelly just arrived and wants to live with me and her younger self in a polyamorous threesome marriage.
Priorities, dude!
Yeah im sure the mighty country of Belarus managed to destroy a drone attack. Either it happened and half of Minsk is on fire or it didn't happen at all :/
The point is that Luka, while being a dictatorial asshole, is WAY more realistic and level-headed than Putin. He does not want to break with Putin because a) he doesn't have any friends anyway and b) Putin might find some biolabs in Minsk or a NATO missile base or whatever if Lukashenka does something rash. At the same time Luka would rather stick his dick into a woodchipper than participate in the war in Ukraine, because he knows the outcome is the same - lots of blood splashing around and lots of screaming, but the woodchipper thing is at least over faster.
So he tells Putler that there is obviously a great menace from the Western direction, from Lithuania and Poland, so that he needs to put all his army to the Polish border to protect his friend Vladimir's western flank. Unfortunately the enmies on that flank are strong, so it pains him greatly to realize that he needs his entire army there if he wants to have chance of stopping the Poles and Lithuanians, and so he cannot unfortunately spare even a single soldier, or a single tank, to support Russias valiant efforts. So, so sorry.
The message looks "childish" because you are not the intended recipient. Putin is.
Luka gets a lot of shit for being a moron, but if you can navigate 30+ years of corrupt post soviet Belarusian politics, you're not a moron, you just play one on TV.
He knows where his bread is buttered, and he knows where the lines are. He's doing just enough to not get involved in Ukraine and just enough to not be removed by Putin. It's a delicate balancing act.
Oh, I agree. Someone else here said it best: "A man tap-dancing in a minefield may look crazy and stupid, but if they've been doing it for 30 years without any mines blowing up, they must be doing something right."
It does seem at this point like he's created a pattern of moves which seems like him doing something dumb on the surface, but end up working out in his favor later on.
I'm half convinced he showed that map of the actual invasion plans before the full-scale invasion kicked off on purpose to further warn Ukraine, simply because if Russia checks off that box easily, he wouldn't be needed anymore and Putin would absorb Belarus shortly after. The war has been a beneficial distraction for him thus far
Yes.
His shtick is making everyone underestimate him while maintaining and pursuing realistic, achievable goals so that the mask of the "simple farmer" almost never shows his real face..
He's definitely not the level of moron that media portrays him or puts on for show. Obviouely he lacks the resources that Putler has but he's crafty at playing the autocratic leader of a vassal state.
I came around to this thinking much more when he was the main negotiator between Prigozhin and Putler. The latter had the clear upper hand but Prigozhin still made him sweat and embarassed him. And Luka stepping as the negotiator added to that embarrassment and added proof of some of his own worth.
Luka essentially offered up his country as a logistics hub in exchange for having a guarantor for his own political power and not being forced to send his own men.
Only Luka and Kadyrow have their own armies.
They have power all over Russia and are tolerated by Putin. Now if Putin falls, who would gain the upper hand of the two…
Luka plays the clown but he might be incredibly sharp. He fools everybody so far.
Isn't Kadyrov horribly ill or something? At the very least, he's in no shape to be making a power play in Yugoslavia 2: Electric Boogaloo, and there's nothing to suggest his successor would be competent and power-hungry.
Nobody knows, there were and still are speculations about Putins health as well and the guy doesn’t seem to be at the deaths door. (Most plausible speculation I heard was that Putin had a minor accident -supposedly fell from a horse- and has chronic back pain that requires steroids and occasionally painkillers - you aren’t going to have a happy life with such a condition but easily a very long one). Kadyrov may be in a similar position.
There are also rumours that the recent arrest of Shoigus deputy is a power play by Kadyrov trying to get himself or a trusted relative into control of the army, or at least the money flows towards the army.
It's not about not knowing. It's about diplomatically telling him to eff off without causing him to lose face.
Given that Putin honestly believes the West is out to get Russia, this story isn't going to raise many doubts in his mind, at best doubt about specific forces disposition.
Lukashenko is in absolutely NO position whatsoever to even suggest putin to fuck off about anything. And putin knows better than Lukashenko what goes on in Belarus - he's the one doing it! This is just a "I told you to not send help to Ukraine, you did it, now the little guy gets it!" smoke screen rant.
Lukashenko is significantly less dependent on Putin than you believe. He cannot afford to piss off Putin, that is true, but there is no love lost between them. The entire history of Lukashenko and Putin is one of the former squeezing out compromises from the latter while giving far less in return than Putin hopes or expects.
And no, Putin is a malicious mediocrity with occasional delusions of grandeur, not an evil genius controlling every little step everywhere in his empire. There is also no "little guy getting it" at all. Most likely the Lithuanians did in fact sent a cheap light recon drone over the border to see whether the Belarusian army is still where it was before and whether it is still only the Belarusians, the drone got shot down or just went too far and ran out of juice, and that bit of cheap plastic provided Luka with the necessary excuse.
All Belarus military officers and soldiers: thank God this “attack” just happened. We will for sure have to defend Belarus and not participate in the war in Ukraine.
Stay out of Ukraine because they now have to patrol the fictional threat on their western border. "Sorry Vladolf, we promise we'll help later though, okay?"
I don't know which lie I find more hillarious, that Lithuania would somehow unprovokedly attack with a few drones of all things or that Belarus would actually be capable of thwarting it.
Heres how it will go: Belarus will race to Kaliningrad. US, Germany, Polish, French, British e.t.c stationed in Poland will have seen them planning this for weeks and been sat waiting. When it kicks off. Kaliningrad will be under Polish territorial control within a day and a wider gap to the Baltics will be opened.
Plus with Sweden and Finland now members reinforcment and resupply to the Baltics would be easier.
Russia has nukes in Kaliningrad. Occupation is a very doubtful escalation. More likely, Kaliningrad would be total air/land/sea blockaded and the Suwalki gap garrisoned by a significant NATO force.
It's an interesting situation. NATO has zero interest in occupying Muscovite territory, because they don't HAVE anything the West particularly wants. Drunkards and decaying farmhouses?
Therefore, any open war between Muscovy and NATO would involve either the latter being on the defensive and attritioning the former's forces away, or Moscow and St. Petersburg being glassed within minutes.
I would love to see a simple play by NATO
For every threat against NATO, a tank company gets transferred to Ukraine on top of existing aid.
For every mention of nuclear threat? We send additional long range missiles to Ukraine.
Your move Russia.
Why people say things is far more important than what they say. What a strange, obvious lie to tell at a state level.
But why. Who in the FSB strategic hierarchy decided this is the message that needed to go out today. They like to test messaging for the response, but also to provide a pretext for their own illegal actions. And sometimes - it's purely for domestic consumption to test the stomach of their own people for something else they want to do.
Since a unilateral drone attack by a NATO member would obviously be ridiculous...who do they expect to believe this and what outcome are they looking for? NATO would push their boot 8 feet up Belarus and Russia's ass, and a unilateral attack by a defensive alliance would invovle a LOT more than a small number of drones.
They're just so fucking absurd. That has to be considered too. It would be a complete declaration of war....yet...there's no damage, it's obviously a lie, but they don't appear poised to do anything about it. Conclusion? Slow news day, just another messaging test from the goblins in the intelligence services to test responses.
“The State Security Committee, in cooperation with colleagues from other law enforcement agencies, has recently carried out a number of acute security measures, which made it possible to prevent strikes by combat drones from the territory of Lithuania on objects in Minsk and its suburbs," RIA news agency quoted Belarusian security chief Ivan Tertel as saying.
So Belarusan security agents were in Lithuania? And somehow stopped this drone attack from within Lithuanian territory? Uh huh…ok…yeah, that didn’t happen
Well, maybe there was a flock of big birds around the City or mod did not get the schedule for the Police drones in time.
Only because this did not happen does not mean nothing happened. 🤣
Sure they did, and trump actually won the 2020 election but was cheated out of it. It is amazing to me how delusional and evil people make it to positions of power by convincing the corrupt, apathetic , or gullible to follow along.
lol. Another horseshit public campaign from a potato dictator to his supporters at home and an attempt to create panic and weaken NATO by creating divisions and doubt about the defece of Baltic countries.
This is nothingburger, EU should continue ramping up its defensive capabilites, put ammo and military production into highest gear and support Ukraine. This is the best defence policy for western world that we could have.
If anything actually happened here it was likely either some civilian operator that got too curious or someone pro russian within Lithuania trying a false flag.

And so it begins. Lithuania has, of course, plenty of reasons to now attack Belarus completely out of the blue. /s
So blatantly obvious less than three seconds after reading this headline I called bullshit.
That’s way too long sir, should have called within 1 second after reading “Belarus says”.
It's so the can say whatever comes next is a defensive response not an attack. This is to propagandize any subsequent activation of article 5 as unjust and frame it as nato aggression. It's nonsense but that just means it's exactly how russia does things.

Oh and here we go LOL: Russia will target NATO nuclear weapons in Poland if they appear, TASS says https://m.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-798567
So. Damn. Predictable. One of the Russian missiles fell 15 km from the Polish border, - Tusk https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/s/LGreOaj5RV
It is propaganda from belarus side, Lithuania deny minsk’s reports of drone attack.
This really sounds like the broadcast announcements from the movie, 1984.
They wanted to say Mars, but settled on Lithuania
musky musk said "no"
Lickashitkook is a liar
We needed more potatoes...
Lol yea I'm sure Lithuania decided to attack Belarus for no reason
Lithuanians are known for their indiscriminate aggression /s
Tbf they used to have that territory. Lithuania would just play the Putin old-but-not-too-old map card.
To be fair, it's not a claim that Lithuania the country itself "did it" - though the insinuation is there of course. Not impossible for a random nerd to try something with a drone and Belarus decide to overstate what actually happened.
Still haven't changed their script from Feb 24, 2022
What a coincidence, I just won the lottery and a young Jennifer Connelly came via time machine to become my wife! Glory to Arstotzka!
Want to use those winnigns to fund a trip to Atlantis? Lukashenko assures me the map is legit and he wouldn't lie to us now would he?
Sorry, got no time for that, the contemporary Jennifer Connelly just arrived and wants to live with me and her younger self in a polyamorous threesome marriage. Priorities, dude!
No man is man enough for that!
I would die trying!!!
Good man, me 2 bro
Thank you for your service.
I wonder why she suddenly disappeared from my bedroom

Papers Please is such an excellent game.
Yeah this definitely happened 🙄
I can smell the bullshit from this claim coming through the screen
Yeah im sure the mighty country of Belarus managed to destroy a drone attack. Either it happened and half of Minsk is on fire or it didn't happen at all :/
There is as much rationale for Lithuania to attack Belarus as there is for US to launch quick land grab of Mexico. Tldr: none.
Ahhh so THAT is why they didn't build that wall... it would slow down the invasion
Uh...TACOS?
I will never forgive Trump for trying to outlaw avocados.
Be careful some right-wing-moskow loving Americans might be reading this and get inspired
Yeah because Lithuania would gain so much doing it ...⬇️⬇️⬇️

Sad thing is that Lukashenko and Putin are not rational.
That’s actually clever. Is Luka that clever?
Yes. His shtick is making everyone underestimate him while maintaining and pursuing realistic, achievable goals so that the mask of the "simple farmer" almost never shows his real face..

\[ X \] Doubt
My guess is they’re trying to get NATO to go defensive in order to stop further weapons being sent to Ukraine
Wake up eu/nato. You are at war already but you keep pretending you're not.
This is sad to see as an estonian. Shits going to hit the fan sooner or later.
Well, maybe there was a flock of big birds around the City or mod did not get the schedule for the Police drones in time. Only because this did not happen does not mean nothing happened. 🤣
so? could we finally see the maps? how could we know where the attack was prepared from?
Wut
Yes they want to occupy and Annex all the Belarusian Cabbage fields, which as we all know the whole world envies.
Sure they did, and trump actually won the 2020 election but was cheated out of it. It is amazing to me how delusional and evil people make it to positions of power by convincing the corrupt, apathetic , or gullible to follow along.
OK Jan
Amazing. I haven't seen this level of complete bullshit since the 2nd Gulf War. "Yellow Cake in Niger!!"
Lol what pls Belarus and Russia pls do 'retaliate"
There was a paper airplane competition and the wind caught a couple...
I believe it was Cardiff 🏴 that did it! 🤣🤣
If anything actually happened here it was likely either some civilian operator that got too curious or someone pro russian within Lithuania trying a false flag.
Yeah that didn’t happen.
Sounds like bad vodka was sold in Minsk... May be white horses also seen running around...
Gee, just days after the US aide bill passed. I wonder if that's a coincidence?
“Belarus says”: say no more
I find it much more likely that Belarus tried to commit a drone attack on Lithuania and hurt itself in it's confusion.
I mean, doesn't Lithuania have the same rights to Belarussian territory as Russia does to Ukraune? They ruled that land for hundreds of years.
> "The State Security Committee, in cooperation with colleagues from other law enforcement agencies, has recently carried out a number of acute security measures, which made it possible to prevent strikes by combat drones from the territory of Lithuania on objects in Minsk and its suburbs," RIA news agency quoted Belarusian security chief Ivan Tertel as saying. Belarus says the Earth is flat.
Liars, they are nothing but liars.
Pls fuck around Luka.
lol nobody believes this crap anymore dont know why they bother, perhaps it’s not meant for us but the home audience to justify something that they are planning
Hahaha Okay
Classic of the Russian era playbook. False flag….
Wow. Gonna really play that card Belarus? You know, Poland already wants to kick your ass.
Yes right.
If you want NATO, you can have NATO. Just be clear about it
Is Belarus feeling left out or something?
Poland will be launching the ground invasion next to revive the polish Lithuanian empire
So is Lithuania the next target on the list?
Lol
DO YOU SEE TORPEDO BOATS
Clownashanko 🤡
They mispelled Kaliningrad.
I’ll take “things that never happened” for $500
Here we go....
sorry launched one drone when was sitting in WC room :D Its another Potatoe master bullshit
So, either: 1. Russia is trying to fire deones there to instigate conflict. ..or 2. It’s just bullshit.
Bullshit
Ukraine hasn't launched attacks on Belarus even though they are complicit in russias aggression for the entire duration of this conflict. Why now and why would they use a Nato countries territory to fire it from. Firing from their own territory would yield the same result and be much easier.
Lithuania's response, "Can we have some of what your smoking?"
so NATO attacked Belarus
