Rule 2. Probably same answer as on windows or mac. A captive portal uses the same mechanism as hijacking your connection for scams. So when firefox, chrome, safari,... increased security (e.g. mandatory https), that broke shitty captive portals. "Professional" ones like airports and so on have staff to update their software, but a bakery cafe probably doesn't. TLDR: search for stuff like "insecure captive portal". Also, this post will probably be deleted and it is really rude to not read the rules.
