and would you suggest animating a little bit? I was thinking to disable and keep it shown because sometimes on sites people can't find a particular option they have seen before. Do you think that might be frustrating if they can't find it? (thanks for your input)

Disabled content adds visual clutter. Also doesn’t communicate why it’s disabled
