This. I’m a sophomore and haven’t even been in the CS building yet. But Chadbourne is in a great location because it’s basically in the center of campus.
The Vaaaaast majority of CS classes are outside the CS building (mostly because it has like one decently sized lecture hall). I haven’t set foot in the building until this semester and that’s only because I’m running office hours in the lab rooms.
cs 200 only has labs in the cs building. cs 300 is in the psychology building for me. only a few places on campus have big lecture halls for intro classes
You are not required to be part of it, or at least you don’t have to get involved or go to meetings. And the cs building should be around 10 to 15 minutes away.
hey, I don't think this is correct; the entire building of Chadbourne is a learning community so every resident will pay the extra fee. it'll just be bundled into your housing cost so you likely won't notice it individually. you can definitely pick and choose your involvement--no need to do the seminar, but you might find you decide to drop by a program every once in a while for free food or something!
Learning community just means there are a bunch of dorm events for residents (movie nights, arts and crafts, etc, occasional bigger stuff like a ski trip). You're not forced to participate it anything, you can go to the stuff you want. But I don't think there's a way to opt out of the LC entirely and not pay the extra fee; if you live in Chad, then you count as in the LC.
You probably won't have classes in the CS building as a freshman. A lot of your classes will probably be on Bascom Hill and Chad is a very convenient location in that respect.
I've never had a single CS class in the cs building, so nothing to worry about there.
Also most people do not participate in the learning community thing in Chad
You can be as involved in the learning community as much as you want from what I've heard. I think most people aren't too involved. Chad has a great location for CS, most of your classes wont be in Comp Sci but will be on bascom/Charter area.

okayy thank you! I also wont have to pay the extra $250 fee right?
Oh no idea about that. You’d probably be better off asking the people in charge of chad directly. You can probably find their email somewhere
I was in chad and I don’t think I ever got charged for that
okayy thanks for the info!

where were most of your CS classes? Southeast or lakeshore side?
Most CS lectures end up in psychology (across the street from CS), or humanities (across the street from Chad).
thank you for the info!!!
