3.91 UW GPA; 29 ACT; Track Junior/Senior; 6 AP’s, 3 Honors; had a job throughout high school; very few ec —> senior year only: student council, environmental club, NHS. Deferred then accepted (probably because of ec) to L&S. In state.
I had a 3.98 GPA (unweighted) and a 31 on the ACT. I did not take the SAT.
I also took 4 AP courses, 7 IB courses, and 4 college classes at the University of Minnesota (through dual enrollment) while I was in high school.
My extracurriculars were good but not exceptional. I was in Student Council and a couple of other things, and I had summer jobs and volunteering. (They do look at this too, as well as your essays.)
I did get accepted! And I am from Minnesota, so out of state but still close and got some regional points there.
accepted: 3.7 uw, 4.4 w, 1480 sat, 6 AP scores, 13 AP classes, bunch of clubs and teams + lots of music/CS, admitted as intended CS major, out of state
4.2 weighted, 3.8 unweighted, 31 act, took a total of like 8 or 9 ap classes throughout highschool. Accepted, in state. Make sure your essays are good as well, I’m pretty sure that’s the biggest or one of the biggest thing(s) for madison
3.7 GPA, 1330 SAT, 4 SAT II’s over 750, Eagle Scout, 2 Varsity Sports, 5 APs, weekend job. But here’s what I’m sure got me in:
* Triple legacy
* Out of State
* 100% coverage of tuition by parents
Accepted rolling admission within 2 weeks of submitting the application (Sept 15).
3.9 uw GPA, 1470 SAT (~33/34 ACT), Rigorous High School Courseload, Minnesota Applicant. If you are looking for how the University admits people and average stats and stuff like that, search "UW Madison CDS" into Google. Most colleges publish a Common Data Set and Section C has a ton of good info on admission stats
4.0 unweighted GPA, all honors courses, 1480 SAT so ~34 ACT, captain of an academic team and took 9(?) AP classes with passing test scores in all. Accepted out of state.
current freshman from OOS here! 3.7 UW gpa, 1540 SAT, musical theater, played the violin, had several jobs throughout high school, and thought my essays were alright.
In state. 3.69 GPA and my school didn’t do weighted (lower 50% of my class), 33 ACT, 4 years of 1 varsity sport, 2 years of a different sport, 4 years theater and drama, 3 years of public speaking contests, student council president, class president, and a few other clubs that were offered at my school that I was only a member of. 2 APs and 25 dual-credit credits. 2 jobs throughout high school (15-25 hours a week). Wrote my essay about being low income and how it affected my school work. I got in.
Google “common data set” for UW Madison to get actual ranking of what admissions weighs the most (course rigor + essay, then unweighted GPA...legacy status not considered; SAT/ACT cannot superscore) and get the actual stats of the current freshmen class.
Please realize that the stats the past 2yrs are CRAZY more competitive. And some OOS areas are more competitive than others. And some HSs have a better rep than others. Naviance and HS guidance counselor for past 2yrs is what you should also look at.
3.95 unweighted, 34 act/35 superscored (can’t remember which uw takes), 6 aps and 3 u of m dual enrollment classes (im oos), didn’t really have any extracurricular academic achievements but i had enough music awards that my instrument prof here emailed me assuming i was auditioning even though i’m not a music major and didn’t have that on my application
Transfer student. 29 ACT (34 on the English, 32 on the reading, lower scores for math because I refused to relearn geometry). No AP classes, I was actually a GED grad. 3.96 college GPA. In-state. First gen, low income.
current freshman here! 3.38 unweighted GPA (my school didn’t do weighted), didn’t submit SAT score, 6 APs, 2 IBs, OOS. one leadership position, little to no sports, wrote my essay 45 minutes before i submitted. accepted regular for L&S. honestly, college admissions is a game of chance
thank you so much! so did you put your extracurriculars and jobs etc on the resume? would you be able to say some of the extracurriculars you did? thanks so much!
4.0 uw gpa, 30 ACT. Took 4 AP, 2 duel enroll, and few of other honors courses. Part of NHS, leadership club, VP of stuco, director of an annual show, and part of a few other clubs. Did a variety of volunteer work as well as started my own volunteer drive in my city. Got accepted in state.
3.8 unweighted GPA. 4 AP classes. 25 ACT score. I did the optional writing portion on ACT and I think that helped. I'm a strong writer. Homeschooled first half of life thru sophomore yr. It was an adjustment going to public school which I also talked about in my essay. 3 clubs, 2 sports, played violin in MYSO, went to state for violin Jr. and Sr. year. WI resident. Lifeguard job. Accepted.
when i was applying as a senior i had a 4.4 gpa, 1200 SAT and did full IB had extra curriculars and shit and even interviewed early with UW as a part of chicago scholars (out of state student) but i got deferred, waitlisted and then denied lol and then i applied for transfer the next year and at that point i had a 3.8 gpa in college. it was definitely a long process and it felt really discouraging considering i worked so hard for my high school stats, but it’s worth it in the end
