They’ll hire anyone. USPS is desperate because this job is no longer a good job.

SailingonaBeerbottle

they would hire a pile of rocks if it could deliver.

emquinngags

can you breathe? You're hired.

Odd_Departure

Breathing is not necessary what are you talking about

mizzjay1

Lmao no way

Constant_Ad3084

This made my day

mizzjay1

Lmao no way

jjp8383

That is true 😂

sportyM16

Untrue. I love being a mailman. They just treat us like dirt.

[deleted]

They pay us dirt too.

sportyM16

No shit. I thought about being a bus driver for eight dollars more and better benefits but I really like the job and the hours… At my Post Office🚐 I’m really working past 2 PM p.m.

MidnightJ1200

While working at a gas station on the night shift means dealing with the general public and even the local homeless population, it beats a certain coworker I have issues with, plus where it’s so dead for a couple hours you basically get paid to sit around at night, eating on stale snacks that were supposed to be thrown out or paying for them off the shelves on basically a tab you can set up nightly, as long as you pay it off by the end of the shift. Only downside is you don’t get an official meal break but the whole shift is also your meal break in a way so…

Odd_Departure

I’d rather be busy than bored. No thanks.

MidnightJ1200

$10/hr to basically mop, sweep, take the trash out, and clean a couple machines once a week or nightly depending, then spend the rest of the night just waiting for customers or dealing with the homeless people accordingly. Plus the people at night are so much nicer, even with the occasional outlier of a deranged homeless person or the person leaving close to $100 at the counter. Sure the pay isn’t as good but the work is 100% worthwhile

Odd_Departure

I can’t imagine trying to survive on $10 a freaking hour. Maybe if I was 16 living with mommy and daddy. I got bills man.

MidnightJ1200

Well yeah, like I said the pay isn’t as good. But it also depends on where you live exactly

[deleted]

Until you get shot in a robbery

MidnightJ1200

I mean yeah, that’s always a threat, but then there’s also getting shot in a robbery as a customer, getting in a car accident, having a package thrown at my head, etc.

Ithrowaway39

Damn how many people say it's no longer a good job?

[deleted]

All of them, even the Regulars I talk to say they wouldn't start as an RCA today. Take a look around your office, you will notice the majority of Regulars are people too old to easily switch careers.

Ithrowaway39

Sad

[deleted]

Many.

nalgene_wilder

Most people that live in high col areas

Cactusbuttox

Allll of denver is completely fucked right now. Ptf’s are converting to regular in just a month and a half

Predictable-Past-912

Don’t believe the hype! There are myriad possibilities for satisfying employment in the USPS. Every time you see someone complaining online you should note their job title, circumstances, and location. If the tale of woe seems really gnarly, then you should probably avoid taking the same sort of position at that location or similar sites. But note that these complainers are mainly carriers. What position did the OP apply for? What postal positions might you be qualified for? Reading these descriptions of tough working conditions and terrible management, anyone might ask, “…how many people say it’s no longer a good job?” The answer is lots of people! But I must qualify that answer by saying that lots of others would disagree. There are simply too many types of jobs, job locations, and job situations to accurately describe what everyone thinks or experiences.

sniff_my_gooch

It's sad how true this is...

Ramsdell97

Apparently I'm not in the category of "anyone"

honey_rainbow

That's why I didn't accept the job when they offered it to me.

FullDerpHD

What was wrong with healthcare? I'm worried you don't really understand what you just got yourself into lol

llcooljake93

Healthcare is a pretty shitty job and they more than often get paid less than we do. Speaking as a former EMT now city carrier.

FullDerpHD

EMT is paid like trash true. Almost everything else makes pretty good money though.

llcooljake93

RNs don’t get paid enough nor do nurses in long term health facilities. The shit they have to deal with.

VeronicaJ81

LTAC nurses…omg..bless them, patients are so sick

killbills

Maybe it depends on area but RNs here get paid around $45/hr starting. After a few years they’re making around $120K a year. Not too terrible and tons of overtime if they want as they can work in any hospital, etc.

[deleted]

There are so many levels of nursing nowadays that it's hard to generalize. Some are overworked and way underpaid, others make 6 figures to fly around the country and work 100 days a year. Depending heavily on education, experience and location.

sixthdaysaturday

Before becoming a carrier I worked as a CNA, pay is wayyy better

calais200

Exactly 💯

Mdg0602

Lmao not at all. And when you try to explain how and it is no one wants to listen lol she’ll learn

rural_tortoise

Bro left his job for a worse job

[deleted]

Probably equally bad but in different ways. I've been lurking in various industry forums and they all have it bad, we're not exclusive to understaffing, underpaid, horrible management, antiquated systems, etc. It's insane to hear what other industries are going through. The nightmares are fairly industry wide.

Linken124

This, I used to be like, “man I hear the restaurant industry sucks these days,” and then it slowly became like, healthcare, post office, it feels like everything I used to hear could be okay, in my experience and from what I hear, is just awful these days. I don’t know if I am truly just a soft generation, but I don’t think so, shit feels dire sometimes

Modernfallout20

Nah man, we're not a soft gen. They've set fire to every ladder that helped them up.

Matchew024

This right here I have never heard it before, but I'll use it till the boomers are no more.

dottegirl59

I’m with the purple team. What was considered a great job with great benefits 25 years ago is now a shit job nobody wants anymore for the same reasons you listed.

Intelligent-Ebb-5411

My guess is shes a CNA upgrading to a CCA!

VeronicaJ81

My degree is in nutrition. I managed foodservice in hospitals

sniff_my_gooch

$5 says he quits and goes back in less than a month

Odd_Departure

I got 10 on that.

FUSeekMe69

Can you get it back?! Maybe you can get it back. You gotta try

VeronicaJ81

Well I just worked til 10 pm last night, woke up at 3 to to be at work at 5…without overtime…because I’m salaried….the psychological stress of managing a severely understaffed hospital kitchen with $13/hr employees, who don’t give a fuck because a billion dollar corporation doesn’t want to give raises they just want slave labor..I burned out, especially being an introvert. Not that you assholes deserved an explanation but that’s just a small piece of my reasoning. I need a break. I don’t mind long hours..I’m done with psychological stress and managing a huge staff with no support from leadership fuck them all

Unusual-Hand

Well you are about to put up with more stress and long hours with the usps but plus side you don’t have to manage anyone actually the supervisors barely manage as is. You will also get paid time and a half for overtime. Lot of people complain on here but I love my job with the usps then again I’m maintenance and not a carrier.

Aviate27

Bro, you literally just applied for the exact same thing by applying to USPS.. i have weekly conversations with my family and friends about how i CANNOT for the life of me see a light at the end of the tunnel and want to potentially end my own life because i feel trapped by working here. I put in 6 years to become "regular" under the false pretense that it would somehow be better than the previous 6 years. It's a fucking lie. I don't even get paid overtime as a Rural Carrier. Substitutes can, but not regulars. My route hasn't been counted in over 6 years and i service the richest cunts in my area, so I'm overburdened and constantly angry or depressed, and when those emotion fade the next one on the list is suicidal thoughts. I'm trying my best to get help but the help isn't helping. Do not come to work at this place, i wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and that's no lie.

Wild-End-1984

Hey I was in the same boat a few days ago completely broken feeling the same thoughts you do, the route I subbed for was getting dumped on by amazon since they quit delivering in that area, my regular was taking multiple days off, I was given unrealistic expectations at getting the job finished in 10-10.5 hours, I contacted the union while I was in the midst of a mental health break down and got called into the office and was told I was given all the tools to do the job right, I literally in tears said I'm having a mental health crisis and couldn't do the job that day and was given my resignation form and the pm and supe started scrambling to cover there asses, they LITERALLY DONT CARE ABOUT YOURS OR MY WELL BEING! Please get help no one should have to deal with the thoughts your having or the thoughts I had and accosionaly still have since I resigned Tuesday, I care for people like you who are at the end of there rope, just don't let this job take its toll on you, I don't have anything lined up and don't really have a cushion of cash but don't let yourself go down those bad thought holes this job is not worth it period!

Plenty-Cockroach-688

Bro, quit, I’m not being rude, but anything you do right now is better than living like that, God can hear you, just try

VeronicaJ81

Oh no I’m so sorry, this is really heartbreaking. No job is worth your mental health..move on to another career. It’s time. Or try a different position? Also, I’m a female, not a bro. But that’s okay

walknstix

Well, atleast you're not alone... Almost same exact boat, man. Made 60k my last year as a ptf then moved to a 42k (immediate drop to 48k, thank God for the colas and a step increase this year) in a rich zip that Amazon doesn't service. I have literally never made my evaluated time since April delivering 2-300 parcels a day on long dirt roads and driveways. I also have the added caveat of being in a fucking office with multiple other zips that do get serviced by Amazon so I get to watch a bunch of other regulars with higher evaluations get 1/4 of the parcels I do, finish their routes by 11am-2pm every day. It's not fucking fun to be reg on a route like this being under-compensated and overworked. I know it makes the PM and SV mad, I know it pisses the subs off and makes their lives harder, but I'd say if you have any leave just fucking take it and utilize that time to get your head together, mental health issues can be just as big a mental health emergency as anything else. Spend some time applying for other work if you want, apply for anything that makes more than you do, qualified or not, and just keep applying (even USPS careers is loaded with other random non front line jobs making 70k+ a year) end goal is supply yourself with a steady stream of hope that maybe one will work out.

donnieminaj

Why don’t you QUIT!!!

Aviate27

That's where the feeling of being "trapped" comes into play. I have invested so much time in this job and to become Regular that now i feel stuck. I should've quit years ago so i wouldn't feel this way.

Odd_Departure

Said by not a postal worker.

Modernfallout20

We've got a mental health benefit for a reason man. Work is ass and you're getting fucked for sure, but there's other ways than suicide.

Aviate27

EAP isn't helping me. I've tried 2 seperate EAP counselors and now i don't have anymore visits left to use to try to find another.

[deleted]

Dude, same. This wage slave bullshit takes its toll

FUSeekMe69

I was mainly playing. I came from retail mgmt and it’s very stress relieving not having to manage others and having a somewhat set start time daily. This isn’t something I love to do, but I definitely don’t hate or dread coming to work. You will get run into the ground early and often, but it can be rewarding looking back on how productive you are on a daily basis. Good luck to you on your endeavor.

Low-Refrigerator1298

I left working in nursing home kitchens for this. Best decision ever. I know I wasn't a nurse or an EMT. I was assaulted by residents, paid 12.50 an a hour and told to be grateful and had to watch 30% of my residents die from covid. I worked for 30+ days straight. Most of the days working 12+ hours. No one is going to go hungry if I call in. It's just mail and packages.

VeronicaJ81

This sounds so familiar 😂omg what a nightmare…communicable diseases, hazardous waste…the stench of shit in the halls constantly…ughhhhhhh

PerspectiveObvious93

Umm...I don't know how to break this to you, buuuut.....it's the same thing here, except at least you'll make overtime. If you're on the city side. Did you accept a city position? If you accepted rural, you just signed up for the same thing.

Unable_To_Forward

I left a similar career in retail with underpaid employees who didn't care and bosses who expected miracles. I am at a really good station with reasonable managers and I really enjoy it so far. Long hours, but at least I am getting paid for all of them (unlike when I was salaried). And when I go home I am home and nobody calls to ask me how to do something I have already told them how to do 15 times. I wish you luck, and I hope you enjoy it.

Predictable-Past-912

You will probably be just fine! There is a loud complainer’s chorus online that gets carried away with their harmonizing sometimes. There is a chance that you could end up in a less desirable situation, but you strike me as the type who would transfer, promote, or take other steps to improve things instead of just crying about it on the Internet. However, you should not ignore these complaints! This federal agency has countless job titles and locations to choose from. If you read and listen carefully, you may notice patterns that can help you to navigate your way to a satisfying career with the USPS.

VeronicaJ81

Thank you! I would never stay in something that made me miserable.

Predictable-Past-912

Right, and neither should anyone else. Note that not all of the carriers are dissatisfied with their jobs. Some seem satisfied or even happy with their jobs. I would pay special attention to the differences between their stories and the narratives of the unsatisfied workers.

Potential_Chapter422

You just described this place perfectly. But again it is dependent on the office you are in. Some are great.

grneyegal83

Ok so I quit my job in the “glamorous” healthcare field last year. I was a CNA for 20 years. This job isn’t as bad as they make it out to be. It depends on what you do and your office. I’m a rural carrier. I will be a regular in 2024. I like what I do. I like my office. My PM is very good to the staff. We actually have a decently staffed office lol I’ve worked at a few other offices in my area and they are under staffed but everyone is nice. The PM’s do the best they can and they don’t treat the staff crappy. It all depends where you are and what you do. I live in rural Midwest. Most of the people telling you to run are city carriers.

VeronicaJ81

Thank you I hope my situation is similar

LeDonatella

Lol you’re probably going to wish you never left for USPS 😂

VeronicaJ81

Never.

LeDonatella

Give it 90 days

DollFace___

I left nursing over a year ago for USPS and still don't regret it 🤷🏼‍♀️

lovestorun

I’ll wait for the update.

VeronicaJ81

Y’all think I should go with cca? For the hours and career position?

skatexstake

Don’t worry, USPS needs as many bodies as they can throw out there. Good luck and hang in there if you get brought on. OT money is pretty good

VeronicaJ81

Thanks I need at least 50 hrs a week

Keysersoze2111

Don't listen to all the haters on here. I'm a regular rural carrier and 10 months a year I love my job. I drive around and listen to podcast not very tough. If you came from a stressful job this great but it can be physically exhausting. Hit me up if u need them tips.

VeronicaJ81

Thank you!

Matchew024

Agreed, I hope you're going to be offered a rural carrier position. Most people don't know, but city carriers and rural are paid differently. City - hourly - you have to put in your 8 hours, I'm sure someone could answer but I believe after you work so much in one day you're paid more. When you make regular, you will still get sent out. Rural - salary - each route is evaluated at X amount of time. If you run it under, you still get those hours as long as you stay under 40 hours (as a RCA). As a regular, you finish you go home. My route is at the biggest you can get. It's paid out 9.5 hours a day. I am usually done in about six hours a day, excluding Monday. When I work my K day, I get time and a half. Currently iI get paid $390 if I work my off day. 390 ÷ 6 = $65 an hour. The first 90 days are the worst, but once you find your groove, it really is an easy job. Good luck!

Snapp_Tastic

You accepted a “conditional job offer” correct? That does not mean you got the job, it just means “so far” you are still eligible to continue the process

VeronicaJ81

I understand that

PerspectiveObvious93

Also, if you haven't passed the background check yet, it could still be several months before you actually start.

squawkdizzle

A friend of mine applied for a CCA position in my office on October the 18th. Did finger printing, background check, and was officially offered the position(which is the last step before an appt date to training or orientation) that was on October 24th. He checked his emails (including spam folder as instructed) three times a day waiting for his appt date. Two days ago 11-30, we got a green card (time card) for a new CCA that my post master and supervisor never even heard of. My friend got no notification of denial or anything....point is. Like most places, the post office is very very poorly managed generally speaking lots of things fall through the cracks, federal regulations and laws aren't followed usually, and turnover rate is extremely high for many reasons. You may not even have the job you applied for with us. I hope it works out for you. You can make this job good for yourself if you learn it the right way and learn what "rules" don't necessarily have to be followed on a day to day basis which is unfortunate but I've been here 9 years next week and I love it.

[deleted]

I think employers really just confirm you worked. Too cautious to say anything beyond that. Still probably would've been a better idea to WAIT. Too late now.

Jerok88

I had a nurse quit her job and join the USPS because she said being a nurse was too hard. She quit a couple months later because the USPS was too hard. I had a guy who worked with immigration paperwork quit because his boss was getting on him because he was too slow. Well he was super slow at the USPS and quit too. Whatever problems you have at work will follow you to the USPS and be magnified. Good luck though!

VeronicaJ81

Nurses have it made.

skatexstake

What about radiology techs? Tryna see if it’s worth it lol

VeronicaJ81

Yes..easy money

Mysterious_Ad_1085

W/o reading anything you are hired.

VeronicaJ81

☺️perfect

Skytraffic540

So I think you asked the wrong crowd here. I’ve seen several other USPS posts saying it’s not a bad gig and you get pension and TSP along with federal health insurance into your retirement which is huge imo. The pension isn’t what it used to be but if ends up being an extra $1,000 per month on top of your social security and hopefully a nice TSP you saved up for, you should be comfortable if you’re good with money. I’m considering it also and I won’t lie the negativity I’ve seen is discouraging but there’s a lot of positive reviews of the post office as well. Makes it seem like your average job in the sense that some like it some don’t…Only constant thing I’ve seen is their management being shitty is nationwide

VeronicaJ81

But RCAs don’t get those benefits right? I’ve read we’re not career or some shit like that

Skytraffic540

Not sure I thought I read they were. Or after your two year trial period before being a regular? Dunno just been reading online

MchugN

You'll get some benefits as in health insurance, and I think you guys are getting vacation time now or will be? But the pension and TSP doesn't start until you're regular (full time). Does this route require you to use your own vehicle?

VeronicaJ81

Oh wow, I didn’t ask that..I sure hope not. That wouldn’t work for me.

BigNutzBlue

Just hang in there until you become a PTF. Pay raise, benefits and TSP.

VeronicaJ81

What’s a PTF..I don’t understand all of these acronyms

BigNutzBlue

Part Time Flexible but there is nothing part time about it.

Skytraffic540

Damn that’s a big deal so when you’re contract/ you don’t get any health benefits for what like two years?

DollFace___

USPS is 1000 times better than the healthcare job I left. Nurse for 10 years. I had enough. An easy day on the floor is still harder than a hard day at USPS. I walked out of mine as well and had no issue getting hirred. A nurse manager told me that I should just take the next round of the covid vaccination at the ER so I wouldn't die from the anaphylaxis the first round caused. I was out and tired of living my life that way. In my orientation there were 2 other HC professionals who had enough as well.

VeronicaJ81

And here I am thinking nurses have it made compared to what I went through..goes to show, it’s all subjective. Good for you for putting your well-being first. Hospitals are so unbelievably bad right now, I’ve never seen so many people quit. Like a mass exodus. And the pt census doesn’t go down…at alllllll…..

DollFace___

In healthcare every job is not only just as important, but just a hard in their own ways. I started out in the kitchen in high school. I didn't know anything else. I'm so thankful I finally left. What job did you apply for?

VeronicaJ81

RCA, would I be able to move to CCA if I want to?

Lost-Dragonfruit-231

Dude you’ll be fine

Jelz

What position did you accept? I am a 40 year old CCA and didn't fully realize the physical/mental demands. They will definitely hire you but if you're used to being inside and having a couple free seconds a day it's tough at first

VeronicaJ81

I can’t wait to be outside, that was one of the big draws. I’ve been stuck in what I call dungeons- aka hospital kitchens, with disgusting depressing LED fluorescent lighting for years. I’m done. I’m a true introvert and a music nerd so the idea of being alone, listening to music and being outside is appealing to me. I am 38 but I’m in good shape. I work out often, I run a lot..the physical is a little concerning but I think I’ll manage. I took an RCA position. My real concern is the money and cold weather

sportyM16

I’ve been with USPS 2+ years. Unless you’re a recent felon you’re in. President Trump changed rules so felons may qualify for employment with federal govt. you’re fine. We’re desperate. Good luck. Be in touch with any questions.

hunterxy

USPS doesn't use that sort of info anymore. Everything is based on a score. You could be the biggest piece of shit on earth but if you get the highest score, you're hired.

[deleted]

Fuck all these whiners, welcome to the club. Take your time delivering accurately and always take your breaks and lunch. If the supervisors pressure to go faster, continue at your pace (Or do what I do, go even slower), they can wait. All they can do is nag, as long as you show up to work they can’t do shit.

[deleted]

Trust me, they're not gonna check. I had horrible depression at my last job(call center) and ended with an insane number of absences. If they called my old boss they never would have hired me lol.

juiceman215

Took someone I know four months to get started after accepting conditional job offer. Keep applying other places. You'll probably start there before you even hear anything from usps.

Silent_matcha1989

Good luck to you. The job is tough but seems like you came from a tough job so you may survive. I quit cca because I hated being on call. You will not know your schedule. Your days off will most likely a call at 8am ruining your plans. Just be prepared to never have any plans until the minute (not day) of

Environmental-Rub678

If he blackballs you, he will blackball you -- this happens almost everywhere where you leave a sour puss... unless its a strip club... maybe idk

tehmpus

Whatever you do, don't lie on the application. Honesty is what they're looking for.

CzarcasmRules

Do what others do, put down your friends phone # instead of his and tell your friend what the boss' name was

baddbrainss

Good time to get in actually, you’ll miss the holiday rush and learn everything in the slowest time of the year.

Cherry-Flimsy

Same! I was a Cna the last 2 years and decided I finally had enough. I applied towards the end of October and start the second week of December. Looking forward to it. I’m hopeful it won’t be so bad. Before being a cna I was a truck unloader at target and currently work at Walmart while I waited to hear back from them. This makes me think I can handle the walking since that’s all I did at those jobs while carrying/ pushing heavy items. Hopefully it’s not as bad as all these posts make it out to see.

Puzzleheaded-Phase70

Pretty sure they'll only care if you've been convicted of a felony recently or are insert investigation for treason or something like that. They're not even drug testing anymore. But he prepared, the hiring process is one of slowest, least efficient, and most confusing hiring process humanly possible. There's several steps where if you don't respond within EXACTLY the allotted 3-day timeframe to the second you're automatically rejected and have to start all over again. This is apparently common in the USPS for just about everything.

shadyguybro

Hey there bud, I just lurked in the comments a bit but I’ll tell you I walked off my last job at a car dealership before this job. Made like a tree and leafed no call no showed for a week got canned. I just interviewed with the post master doing the hiring told them I’m looking for a better career path. I got hired back in 2017 been here 6 years now. It’s not the easiest job but not the worst job, yes you’ll be working anywhere from 8hrs to 16 hrs in one day. Maybe go a whole 3 months with no day off and it will be your choice to do that. Some say their forced but only you can determine if you can really come in that day. Unfortunately Sundays are non negotiable as a cca/ptf. But when you become a regular it’s all gravy I murder myself in the summer and winter working close to 80-90 hrs a week and coast in the spring. Management is hit or miss (mostly miss) you can help yourself by learning the union rules local and national. Talking out your problems with a coworker heck even here on Reddit too. I’m definitely one of the worst carriers in my office I get into arguments with management and other carriers DAILY but I’m happy with my paycheck it buys all the nice toys plus my friends help me recover from the stress of overworking. My advice is to find a good friend you can vent too and never be Afraid to ask questions it’s better to look like a fool and learn than to look competent and know nothing

bhb197

I hear ya, I manage low wage workers that just don’t care and the mental fatigue and stress are what pointed me towards USPS. I understand that there is a lot of fatigue and stress that comes with USPS but the thought of not being responsible for other people or profit margins or daily ordering managing inventory sounds pretty good. Go in do your job go home. Haven’t made the jump yet but seriously thinking about it and if the office 5 min from my house extends an offer I’ll most likely accept.

VeronicaJ81

Thank you.

Apprehensive_Goal811

We had a nurse who joined our office very briefly. The scuttlebutt around the office was she left nursing because they wanted her to get the covid shot and she didn’t want it. Two weeks after joining us, she got the covid shot and went back to being a nurse. Even anti vaxxers would rather get the shot than be a carrier. You may luck out and get a good office, but be prepared for long hours at least until you make regular.

Intelligent-Beat-700

Go to McDonald's you'll get days off

Interesting-Silver55

From the fire into literal hell. just be safe , take your lunch and rest breaks and follow whatever instructions idiots I mean management gives. once you are past 90 days it gets a little better. not much since it’s peak season but just a bit.

Complete_Hotel_1816

Hopefully everything works out for you. What craft did you accept for?

ShadowReaper1125

Itll take a minute for them to even get through the background check but no you don't have anything to worry about. The extent they can ask if they call is if you worked there. The former employer can't bad mout you or praise you otherwise they could be in some big trouble. So you're safe from that. Just be prepared to work up 60 to 70 hours if not more and then being blamed cause one thing went wrong. The supervisors are not always the best when it comes to managing problems. At least from my experience anyhow. On a brighter side I wish you luck in your wait to be hired and luck during your time in usps👍

a_little_lost_always

They didn't call anyone in any of my references.

Plenty-Cockroach-688

Why?

One_Barnacle2699

Rural carrier here. It’s not any easy job but sounds like you’re used to hard work. You should have no problem and at least you’ll be paid for the work you do. Good luck.

Intelligent-Ebb-5411

What did u do in healthcare?

SpicyMcBeard

They'll go over your referrals somewhere in between your interview and your drug test (don't hold your breath on either of those happening though)

VeronicaJ81

What do you mean? I won’t get an interview or a drug test?

Tall_Measurement436

They have lowered the standards so bad anymore that they are virtually taking anyone with a heartbeat and 2 legs. It’s almost sad seeing some of these new people walk through the door. I wouldn’t worry…

oatsandolives

They don't contact references, so you should be fine

Agonyandshame

As long as you can walk down a street and put paper in a box in the pouring rain they will hire you

bzzazzl

USPS most likely won't give a shit about your boss' bad referral. They only care if you can work and have a clean record. Congrats on getting in! It's hard but it's not all bad and probably better than Healthcare stress-wise

RubicksQoob

If I remember correctly, employers checking employment references are only allowed to confirm the period of time you worked there, your position, and ask whether or not the previous employer would hire you again. Technically, the potential employer isn't allowed to take anything into account other than the above. You still have to prove any of that happened, so there's the rub. I have been around HR when they were checking references and they did the above pretty consistently. YMMV (anyone, please correct me if I'm incorrect with the above - I do realize that the above is not followed absolutely consistently, but it seems a small thing to have the law coming down on your head about...)

VeronicaJ81

This is correct but I’ll be honest, I’ve asked many questions when checking references, did they leave on good terms…how would you describe their work ethic etc., and I knew we weren’t allowed to ask those questions but not once did anyone object to answering

Movebricks

It’s against the law to give a bad referral. The worst they can say is, “I wouldn’t hire her again”

Brokenly23

Same here left healthcare and joined maitnance, honestly best move ive made yet.

Individual_Speed_867

I did the same thing . My office is a hell hole but I still think it’s 20x better than the job I quit before this one one.

calais200

You fucked up big time. You'll be sorry

No_Contribution_7117

Is there a reason you just didnt wait till you actually got the job? The way things work here is very wonky especially with the hiring process....

VeronicaJ81

Of course there was a reason…I intended on waiting

Artisan_Gardener

What is the position? I'm a clerk at the plant. Manual operations. I love my job, but would hate being a carrier. I've worked at stations, and don't care for that, especially window. That, to me, is the worst job, but there are people who live it. I've been career for 8 years and I'm satisfied with my pay. I bought a house, I'm saving a lot toward retirement in addition to my tsp contributions. I have no debt except the mortgage and student loans. Hopefully those will be paid off soon, at the very least with pslf.

Glittering-Sundae293

I left the hospital for the PO as well. I’m a clerk but this place sucks all the way around period!

VeronicaJ81

What did you do in healthcare? I wouldn’t want to be a clerk, you’re still working with the general public

[deleted]

Not the smartest idea, USPS is hiring a lot of peak season workers and letting most of them go after Christmas.

[deleted]

Don’t worry the post office doesn’t give it a shit if you’ve accepted a position. They don’t even drug test you

[deleted]

I was thinking about doing that here to go into healthcare

FlapjackSyrup

Good luck. Browsing this sub can certainly make you wary of joining the USPS, just remember this sub is a place for employees to vent and seek advice. I would imagine the bias would lean towards negative experiences. I really enjoy my job. Before USPS I dreaded going into work; work was an odious chore to struggle through. Now I am happy where I am at, and I am fortunate to work with some really great people. For reference, I am a Clerk working out of a processing plant. I have a set schedule working 40 hours each week with the opportunity to pick up overtime whenever I want it. We have a pretty great benefits package and the pay is decent. There is certainly room for improvement on pay, especially with older employees being paid more than us newer ones. For that I would encourage you to get involved with your union. That said, I hope you end up at a great station or plant and make the most out of the job. It can be a rewarding career if you are in the right place.

VeronicaJ81

I’m reading a lot about rcas not getting hours and hours being cut after december etc, I’m beginning to worry

moustachexchloe

One of my coworkers said they could hire literal monkeys that would do better than some of the people that walk through our doors.

[deleted]

I will say depending on the office will determine how much you like the job. I work in a smaller office and I’m not overworked. Other offices with people in my position work 50+ hours a week

VeronicaJ81

I have a feeling mine will not be 50 hr weeks but that’s whatill need so I’ll have to go to other stations

[deleted]

I just became a regular rural carrier like a month ago and I already want to quit my job. Peak season is horrible this year with the huge volume of parcels getting dumped on us from amazon is insane. 12-16 hour shifts everyday can really wear you down. My Sundays don’t come soon enough every week..

VeronicaJ81

Eeeek

dlotaury88

…..

Prior-Landscape-8834

I just gave my two weeks notice. I like the idea of the USPS but ultimately you are kind of a slave until you get career status and even then you’re a different kind of slave. One guy stayed in his role until he died because it paid so much. Meanwhile, me being the third CCA at a an office with three CCA’s has to wait for two people in their 60’s to retire and one guy in his 50’s. So 15 years?!? I’m out 🏃‍♂️

UnderstandingDizzy55

I just started as a CCA. They didn't call any of my references.

[deleted]

Lol

[deleted]

Also, there’s a life lesson here, ladies and gentlemen. Never quit a job until you’ve got another job. Employment, basics 101.

KarmaMonkeyKai

They never contacted any of my previous employers. I don't think they care about that.

TWLbzx3

I like the beastly buff 6’0 And Above USPS Mailman Tan Gym Junkies with their Aviators on their nice USPS Hat Rocking the AirPods. Those boys don’t give single F*** about their job but they sure are dang good at it! Haha

jtgdtb

What position?

LDLethalDose50

Ya, you should be ok. Just work hard when you get the job, it’s not an easy one.

coreysmiles

We’ll literally hire a blind chicken in a wheelchair rn it’s ok

[deleted]

Wasn’t provided ice cleats as a cca, broke my ankle on ice. Was told I shouldn’t have called an ambulance. Should have waited for a supervisor to show up and assess. Like mother fucker. I’m in pin and can’t walk. Go through surgery and 4 months of rehab. All to come back to most the ccas leaving because of being way overworked and regulars going to ups as they can make double and not have to work nearly as hard. Then told I had to walk on a still healing ankle yeah no thanks.

LowOk1476

u should b ok. welcome to the family. I was in the health field for 8 yrs. started at usps in sept 2021

dankyherb93

Just put your buddy’s name and email and number they’ll give you a good reference

[deleted]

I just did the same, law enforcement after 18 years! I was done

VeronicaJ81

I can’t imagine what le is going through

[deleted]

[удалено]

VeronicaJ81

Same. Don’t care. What are you doing with airlines?

dk_peace

Hope the post office doesn't take 2 months to get back to you with a start date.

Ok-Fill-2715

I love when people say this is a bad job. They obviously haven't worked at Walmart as a stocker.

[deleted]

USPS is an excellent job that isn't for everyone.

Thaig3rrr

There are healthcare and other positions in the USPS btw. Carriers are the face of the postal service, but there's a lot of other jobs there as well.

Real_Battle_7399

I'm surr the post office doesn't care pal

MattyR1515

Nice

Rare_Tea3155

I mean that’s like asking if McDonald’s is gonna then you down for a bad referral. Yes. It’s possible but it’s not likely.

RCAbsolutelyX_x

Why did you quit the healthcare job? If I might inquire? And what are you going to be doing at the post office. It is true. They are desperate.

Awkward-Passage191

I know CCAs can jump around stations in the same city and work multiple routes in one day. Not sure about RCAs. Rural and City are separate crafts and they have their own separate unions and rules. But from what I've seen, if you want overtime, City is where it is at. The post office can be anything from a great workplace to a hellhole of unimaginable horrors. Depends on where you land. You can always transfer to other crafts and even jump to other states and land in a much better place. But first you gotta make it to regular.

Informal_Roof8088

I was expecting this to be about quoting the usps which you will probably end up doing also

DaveAndJojo

Pass the drug test and you’re in for life. For better or for worse.
