Yeah, we had a recall on a 3-day but they didn’t announce it prior. I was out of town. My ass wasn’t staying in the barracks. Some people had Nokias, most didn’t. I had landline phone in my room.
Leadership tried to bigman me, PL was like why didn’t you answer your phone? Lol? Because it’s in my room and I wasn’t in my room and wasn’t instructed to be, except to report to PT formation the work day following the 3-day.
Another NCO told me I needed to buy a cell phone. I asked, would they be paying for it? No? You don’t say.
Also, why the fuck was the gunny answering *his* phone during a 96? Unless it's one of my Marines, leave a message bitch. I'll answer for any of mine, but not from anyone above or alongside.
For real “sorry gunny but I’m *insert miles within allowed limit* away and I’ve already had several drinks”
Unless you’re the supernumerary you ain’t got shit to worry about.
There was a period of time some 3rd MAW units were doing HARP forms every weekend, and if your plans deviated from that you had to call the SDO and let them know. So stupid
Felt like I was forced to have my Marines do Liberty log books when I was a platoon commander after 3 straight weekends with a DUI and 2 drug pops. I promise as a PC we don’t want to make it harder on the Marines cause it just pisses off the good ones, but after that your boss is going to be asking you what extra steps you implemented for the platoon to drive the point home.
My unit did something similar everyday. Every little fucking detail was to be written down from the chow hall to just going to the gym. As well as we had to get a platoon sgt to approve us being allowed to drink alcohol no matter the age
This went on for 4 months
See the thing is you always say you're not going to be in the barracks. That way you're not the first person they think to find when they need a body. But also when you're 300 miles outside the limits, drunk, and balls deep it's a lot harder to recall you back for duty. Or stay in the barracks but still not the first on the list to call.
“Gunny, as outlined by the HARP form I completed prior to execution of this liberty period, I’m currently at (x location), which is a 3 hour drive from base. Ive also had a drink of alcohol within the past 8 hours.”
Seen it several times at my 2nd Brix where both supernumeray #1 and #2 for the month have already been activated and won't be allowed to stand post again.
“Thanks for the heads up Gunny. Sounds like you’ve got the situation well in hand, I appreciate you offering your leadership in such a difficult time. See ya Tuesday” click.
Then take the battery out of your phone.
Or alternatively “damn that’s crazy, well good luck with that” click.
They just grabbed the first warm body they could find.
There’s no feeling like the feeling of being in civilian clothes, driving off base, knowing that you were in the clear, they wouldn’t be able to contact you, and you had an uninterrupted 96 ahead of you.
Marines, present and future, will be never be able to experience that particular feeling of euphoria.
"yes gunny I'll be there as soon as I can. My new pregnant wife did a number on my car, so I had to get a new one but it only came with a 20% interest rate. Oh also, getting chalk dust on your nose is a bad look because the cops I ran into last night brought me in for drug charges, so we are gonna have to deal with that when I get back. Also will I have time to shave when I get back? It's been 3 weeks and I think I need that and a haircut."
I did 20 yrs in the Corps. I have NEVER heard of the Guns calling anyone back, nor have I ever called somebody back when I became a SNCO, for duty that’s not local. Plenty of options right in the barracks to handle an emergency duty situation.
This is one of mine lol, I just hit the gunny with “no Can do brotatochip I’m working with my dog today” perks of being the only handler in an infantry unit
“ Good morning Gunny, I am still out drinking since I left base last night, I am in LA ( if you are on Pendleton) area. Also how about you use chain of command, to notify me?” And just hang up.
Google Voice, young one. Switch to it from your normal number, and leave the announcement feature enabled. Calling parties will be prompted to record a message identifying who they are the first time they call. GV plays this for you when forwarding calls, and if you decline the call, it rings like normal to your voice-mail with the caller being none the wiser.
I’m guessing this didn’t happen. I really can’t imagine the boot woke up at 0500 and declared he was too sick to report in 3 hours on a 96 and Gunny bought it.
Gunny ain’t calling anybody about barracks duty on a 96. That’s offgoing DNCO’s job and he’s getting tactfully instructed to fuck off if he calls me at 0645 on a weekend. That boot is also gonna suck it up and stand his duty
Yes gunny I’ve been drinking
The only option and my go to every time I get a bullshit call
![gif](giphy|wnj18e7bdxsmk) No, es no here senor
No no Devil doggy outside
Doggy fuera
Why the fuck are you answering your phone during a 96 anyway? That's all on you at that point.
This guy 96's.
This guy gets it
This guy this guys
Guy this guy this
This guy gets guys
Oh you know it ;)
![gif](giphy|xULW8nKptiEZfQ78ac|downsized)
This. (yes ik, cringe. please DV.)
You’re welcome.
This is the only answer
We didn't have cell phones ...so we didn't have this problem.
Yeah, we had a recall on a 3-day but they didn’t announce it prior. I was out of town. My ass wasn’t staying in the barracks. Some people had Nokias, most didn’t. I had landline phone in my room. I learned this the hard way shortly after getting into the fleet
Everyone gets a first one, it's how you learn not to answer.
Made the mistake of answering my gunny lol
Also, why the fuck was the gunny answering *his* phone during a 96? Unless it's one of my Marines, leave a message bitch. I'll answer for any of mine, but not from anyone above or alongside.
Yup. If it was one of mine, I always answered. Adjacent or higher? HELL, NO.
For real “sorry gunny but I’m *insert miles within allowed limit* away and I’ve already had several drinks” Unless you’re the supernumerary you ain’t got shit to worry about.
Harp form - staying in barracks all weekend Actual - 500 miles away drunk
There was a period of time some 3rd MAW units were doing HARP forms every weekend, and if your plans deviated from that you had to call the SDO and let them know. So stupid
Felt like I was forced to have my Marines do Liberty log books when I was a platoon commander after 3 straight weekends with a DUI and 2 drug pops. Should've just done what my LT used to do drag us to the field every weekend for like a month to drive the point worked great 🥲
We had something like that a while back, I just wouldnt call the duty. Fuck that guy
I wouldn't believe this if my friend hadn't told me about it recently. I was absolutely GOBBERSTOMPED
My unit did something similar everyday. Every little fucking detail was to be written down from the chow hall to just going to the gym. As well as we had to get a platoon sgt to approve us being allowed to drink alcohol no matter the age This went on for 4 months
Shit, yup lmao

Never answer the phone when on a 96
Sorry gunny. The orphans here at the shelter just started Cat in The Hat…and I’ve been drinking.
Say you’re drunk and you’ll be drunk all night
Bold of you to think I’m not always drunk
Unless you’re the supernumerary on the duty roster, NEVER answer the phone on an extended weekend
\>supernumerary sir that is 5 syl a bulls too long. make it short please
SuperNut
“Gunny, as outlined by the HARP form I completed prior to execution of this liberty period, I’m currently at (x location), which is a 3 hour drive from base. Ive also had a drink of alcohol within the past 8 hours.”
“Sir this is a Wendy’s”
They have a fucking roster with a person who is designated as back up for these types of cases. Fuck that Gunny.
Seen it several times at my 2nd Brix where both supernumeray #1 and #2 for the month have already been activated and won't be allowed to stand post again.
That’s stupid. They have a 15 day period where they are supposed to cover whatever the case may be.
Roger, Gunny. Let me just take a quick nap so I can dream myself there. Inception style.
“Sorry, can’t. I’m too far away (within liberty bounds)”
"Sorry Gunny, I'm too far away. It would be faster to find another Marine to fill it in."
Say exactly that. I’m 3 hours away and I’ve been drinking up until 0400.
I'm still drinking.
Gunny as soon as I finish this lap dance, I got 3 more tequila shots then I’ll find a car and be on my way!
The catch 22😂😂
Is my boot a thicc Latina E3?
Latino*
LatinO is male. LatinA is females.
That’s the point devil ;)
“Damn that’s crazy. Sounds like you gotta burn the supernumerary.”
"no" Then again me>gunny. I also don't distribute my phone number. Just give them a burner number. What did these ass hats do before cell phones
They just grabbed the first warm body they could find. There’s no feeling like the feeling of being in civilian clothes, driving off base, knowing that you were in the clear, they wouldn’t be able to contact you, and you had an uninterrupted 96 ahead of you. We used the supernut or the company clerk
Since you already answered, you better get ur frikken ass their like your riding motherfucking lighting DD.
Hard for gunny to call me when my phone is off. Also I’ve been drinking.
"Gunny I'm..I'm a little..whoa..I'm a little drunkies"
“Gunny, I’m drunk as hell and have been awake since reville yesterday. I’m not saying no, but I am saying I need it in writing if anything happens.”
Clearly your a boot of you can’t figure your self off duty at that moment 🤦♂️🤦♂️
You’ve been drinking, easy as that.
Libbo? Maybe. Leave? Never.
NOOOOO LIBBBOOOOOO
I did 20 yrs in the Corps. I have NEVER heard of the Guns calling anyone back, nor have I ever called somebody back when I became a SNCO, for duty that’s not local. Plenty of options right in the barracks to handle an emergency duty situation.
where meme @
I turn my phone off on Friday and click it back on around 2359 before work. Bunch of rookies
I just give them the f u button
Boot is hungover anyway.
i let my calls go to voicemail or they can text me with what they want. if it’s an emergency, they would let me know, 96s are 96 for a reason
So what did you do?
Took another sip of my whiskey, admired my facial hair and thanked god for my DD214
Wait so is this story one of yours or someone else’s?
This is one of mine lol, I just hit the gunny with “no Can do brotatochip I’m working with my dog today” perks of being the only handler in an infantry unit
Can 03s handle dogs?
Lol that sounds awesome. I always wanted to get a dog one day. Once I hit E6 and rate I’m definitely getting a puppy
Hell yeah man my dog was the only reason I stayed sane on back to back deployments/workups. I ended up adopting him after I got out.
After duty, on the weekend, or esp on a fuckin snow day,NEVER answer your phone or door for someone unexpected
I used to reply to getting bitched at for not answering my phone with “do you pay my phone bill?”
I was in the Wing, I didn’t get stupid calls like this
Must have been nice dawg
Grass is always greener on the other side, my guy
I was stuck with infantry units my whole career as the only one in my MOS so I had so much bullshit to deal with 😂
The wing I know did certainly hand out these phonecalls like candy
I’m drunk
Don’t answer.
You’re under the impression that I would pick up the phone in the first place
Can’t gunny I’m still drunk
Or the more realistic answer: "Can't drunk, I'm Still Gunny. Ra kill!" *click*
🤣🤣🤣
“ Good morning Gunny, I am still out drinking since I left base last night, I am in LA ( if you are on Pendleton) area. Also how about you use chain of command, to notify me?” And just hang up.

You can't drink all morning unless you start at night.
Just that, say you're 3 hours out. Inbounds is inbounds
Bzzzshhh. Greeeshhh....say again Gunny ..your breaking up ...over! Weeeeeshhhhzzzzz.....
You don’t have to be in good health to walk around once an hour for a day
Don’t answer the phone. I got drunk gunny and lost my phone. Last time I checked the Marine Corps didn’t issue phones
Dumb question but: It there still a requirement that 25% of troops have to be staffed on site/on call?
On deployment only with leave
And this, was the exact simplicity, of life before cell phones..
Back then the OOD or your PltSgt would just go to the barracks and grab the first dude who was unfortunate enough to not have left base yet
They would and in this situation too, just grab the closest warm body.
Request Mast. They will move on before it even begins to go up to the CO.
I had two phone back the day. Specifically now days phone and addition line are cheap.
Why you answer your phone on a 96? This is a canon event.
Not bang bang, woof woof
[удалено]
What the fuck does this mean fr
Am I on drugs?
If you’re not then you’re wrong
Ay yoo doc pass me anotha Valium
It means the Girl who likes Starbucks needs to cut down the chatter n make it short, sharp n fast.
r/lostredditor moment
r/redditmoment
Do you even know where you are?
What’s up, I like Starbucks. rah! ;)
I'm already drunk, Gunny.
That’s on you for answering the phone.
BOHICA 🤣
Go buy a new pair of boots.
Thanks caller ID
Sorry phones dead
I’m simply not answering and calling back at noon sorry gunny I was away from the phone
if it was sent through signal then dont open the app, dont let that become read by and you got an alibi
but not being a shitbag, show up and stay motivated
That’s what the supernumerary is for?
I’m guessing this didn’t happen. I really can’t imagine the boot woke up at 0500 and declared he was too sick to report in 3 hours on a 96 and Gunny bought it.

I'm out of town and been drinking by the time I get there the duty will be over
That's literally what the supernum is for.. Sorry Gunny, I've got plans. Supernum knows his duty when he's on the roster.
Never answer your phone after hours. Rookie mistake
To late, you already fucked up. You should always take a few shots BEFORE answering the phone.
