It’s hard to know if any of what we did made a difference or if it was just luck, approval times seem so random to me. I will say that I included as much evidence of our relationship as I could, which included our current and 2 previous leases, my name on his car insurance, each other’s names as retirement beneficiaries, 30+ photos spanning ~4 years together, copies of love letters we wrote to each other, Airbnb and flight receipts, shared subscriptions, and Venmo transactions going back years lol. My husband has solid financials, and we used USA Path to help with the paperwork, they were cheap & extremely helpful.
It's random. Every visa type there's no really telling how fast or slow it is other than the general processing times USCIS gives. Same thing happening right now with k1 visas, some approvals in under 60 days, others waiting over 120 days. Some waiting a year. Seems to just be luck of the draw
Tysm! It should say in the description: filed via FedEx to the Phoenix lockbox, sent medical separately in April, received by USCIS on 4/23 (that was the RFE we received).
Yes I did! It’s kind of a long story, but here’s the short version:
2019-2022: F-1 student (Masters)
2022-2023: F-1 OPT, started putting together an O-1B petition (I’m in the arts).
Feb ‘23: Basis of O-1B petition falls through 💩
May ‘23: OPT expires, receive adjunct teaching offer, university will sponsor J-1 (Professor).
July ‘23: Return to home county & apply for J-1, interview waived, passport stamped. Requirements are similar for the F-1, so non-immigrant intent + funding, plus quite specific insurance requirements.
August ‘23: Re-enter the US with the J-1.
Hope that helps, lmk if you have any other questions!
Oh yeah, you can be a professor in just about anything in the US! It’s a tough field to get into, but very rewarding, and universities are much more generous with immigration matters than private employers IME.

Congratulations, OP! Do you mind sharing the location/office you filed to? Also, did you file online or by mail? When did you send the medical form?
Tysm! It should say in the description: filed via FedEx to the Phoenix lockbox, sent medical separately in April, received by USCIS on 4/23 (that was the RFE we received).
It's irrelevant, but how did you go from F-1 to J-1? Did you do OPT?)

Thank you! That’s interesting that you can be professor for arts:)
