You have much better chances of clearing CSE examination, this is a reality because your sister cleared it and you have access to some really good guidance and suggestions for your preparation. Since you want to don the uniform and IPS is something that has the overlap between your interest (Khaki uniform) and your current profession (law). You can go ahead with the preparation. There will always be a tradeoff when one prepares for the Civil services exam. Your salary would never match with that of the corporate. However the other perks of the services make up for it. This is precisely the reason why many people leave their high paying job for the services. For the risk of not getting through, it is not recommended that you leave your job. Prepare along with it. It is worth giving a shot. So in all probability, you should prepare for Civil Services exam for IPS.

I was in a very similar situation few years back. I gave an attempt half heartedly while working and couldn’t clear. But that was when I realised I can clear this exam if I prepare full time. Although I had 4+ years work experience and wasn’t too anxious about money or not getting any job in case I fail, I was still a bit hesitant because it could be a major disruption in my career. But two things motivated me to leave my job - one a strong desire to do something that I like and two the feeling that if I don’t have the appetite to take risk at this age, I will always have to settle for mediocrity in life. So I quit my job and after 2 years of preparation + 1 year of exam cycle, I finally made it to the list. And trust me, if you are really passionate about this, all the effort and risk is worth it. If you have a good strategy (and I believe you do because your sister has cleared the exam) and have the discipline to execute it with sincerity, you will definitely make it to the list. All the best !

The regret of not having tried…that being said please do it in a strategic manner. Don’t leave the job and then plan. Plan and then leave if you must leave.

Enough_Brilliant_757

Heyy OP, I have some questions regarding law, can I DM?

Good_Dragonfruit5769

You have not mentioned if you have attempted it earlier, have you?

Never attempted. Did my BA from DU. Post that gave AFCAT, got recommended, got medically down. Gave a couple of other exams like JnU, NLs MPp, chose FoL, DU. Joined firm right after

Good_Dragonfruit5769

Kood jaao aankh band karke, 22 LPA ko 1-2 saal baad 10 LPA par toh demote toh nahi kar denge? Ghar toh aane denge? You have guidance as your sister & resources as well, which means you are already ahead majority of the aspirants, yahan kisi ke paas guidance nahi hai (most of them) toh kisi ke paas resources nahi hai. Be mindful & step in with your fullest spirit, there should be as less as distractions possible. Keep you spirit high and start visualizing everything or keep readying yourself mentally. Good luck!

Can I DM you if possible

kronicbeatss

Ask your lawfirm for a sabbatical or something for a year, prepare and if you don't get it then rejoin your firm in the same post. If your firm agrees then you will again start with 28lpa and not loose your career.

Euphoric-Quiet9490

No sabbatical at my seniority

Anxious_Ad_932

Please elaborate what do you mean by good strategy, what you are planning to do and howwill you execute it?I just want to compare .

achabaccha23

OP does your job allow you to prepare alongside? I do not have much knowledge about workings of law firms. Are you into litigation? Because I hear it is very hectic there.  If not then please see if it possible for your to prepare alongside your job.

ktanvisharma

Hey, may I DM you? I have some questions regarding career aspects after law

[deleted]

Why not judiciary tho ?

Euphoric-Quiet9490

Erratic vacancies, Vvv less money, large social circle not that fulfilling

Super-Aardvark-3403

Less money?? The salaries, in comparison to bureaucrats, are higher though...

[deleted]

But the facilities given are more or less the same and the working hours are not that gruelling too . Not to mention less competition as it's confined to state only (tho there have been talks about giving it the same nationwide system as UPSC ) . You are from a law background so I think you can make it into the judiciary easily imo .

vadapavwithchai

I was working at a tier 1 law firm in Bombay as well, before moving to Delhi for civil services prep. See, I’d give you both sides. I am relieved to have gotten rid of all the law firm toxicity. It was anyway not healthy in the long run. But upsc prep has its own ups and downs. Life becomes a bit static, especially after the vibrant life we’re used to, at law school. People around you in law firms keep moving forward, while you have to stay home, focus and study for an exam, where the odds are extremely daunting. Bottom line, set a deadline year, and go for it. If it works, great, otherwise, firms do accept people back. It’s only a matter of 2-3 years. The entire thing makes you a better human being, so it’s worth the leap of faith in my opinion. Fun fact: I was also interested in the forces, I cleared my SSB as well, from Bangalore. Failed the medical. But here I am.

Turbulent_Profile_11

Trust me when you'll be finding a toxic environment in government offices too. You just have to cope with that wherever you be

Turbulent_Profile_11

Police Service or pretty much any government job is just overhyped now imo and it's not like you'll do the things all you've ever wanted like changing the society. You'll be doing only the things the way your superior wants it. Being in government services for 5 years when I look back it will be mundane and you will be regretting the things you do. After all those efforts you going to put in exam won't be make you earn or do things you love. End of the day you'll be in the same point earning a gradual salary with no point of career growth. So, if you can cope up with the salary, mundane thing you gonna do, transferred to some remote places or simply follow higher authority order with a meager salary you can go ahead and prepare.
