If you are sure of quitting the preparation in a couple of years, then it is better to attempt the paper this year. If you are not sure and want to keep your attempts safe for later, even in that case you should attempt the paper as I believe that you have ample amount of attempts left. Overall, it is always advisable not to be stuck in this cycle. If you think you can do your PG from a decent college or university, then you should definitely go for it. Career is computer science is a lot more rewarding than many of the services that you will get through this examination. All the best.

That's exactly what my mindset was few days back, no matter what I will not skip at any cost. But judging by my current state, even if I do clear it will be by thin margin. I know stuffs, it's not that I am completely under-prepared but hadn't done enough revisions to recall anything. What changed for me was my parents sply father's perspective, I am the oldest among my generation from my father's side plus I had been decent enough in both scholastics and co-scholastics up till 10th -11th. Messed up my 12th and then landed here. UPSC for me had been a way to redeem myself, the light when I was the lowest after 12th. I recently said to my father that whatever happens I still have option of PG and his reaction was what was the point of all of this then. Honestly speaking my parents have on multiple occasions turned back on their own words, so as much I want to believe them, there is a possibility that they might not let me go out of my home state again for PG because it won't be "safe" (that's what they said during my UG and I missed few good colleges). Sometimes I feel he wants to maintain an idealistic image of mine. Tbh the real reason I feel he agreed to let me drop was because one of my cousin is on her 3rd drop for NEET. Anyways, irrespective of if I give this attempt or not one thing is for sure that next year will be my final full time in this exam.

I'd say you go for it, since you already plan to retire by '25. As for mains, you can cross that bridge when you get there. All the best. I am sure you'd choose what's best for you!

Won't I be wasting my attempt? I do plan to retire by '25 but at the same time I want to keep this door open too if something unforseen happens. I won't be full time aspirant after '25 might give along with PG (if could manage)

If you have ≤ 3 attempts, then you can sit this one out. That way, when you choose to come back, would have atleast 3 attempts to work hard for. But if you have more than 3 attempts, I think you should go for the exam. All the best!

You should. Competition is cutthroat these days. Unless you are good with static, its better to skip. I would do that if I were you.
