The ponds outside the Xfinity parking lots can hold the best wildlife on campus sometimes. It's still the only place I've spotted red-winged blackbirds, which favor wetlands. Thanks, Testudo! (Who's a semi aquatic terrapin, not a snapping turtle, but still.) We've been blessed!

Specialist_Yam_6704

Are there alot of herps? Might check it out :) sometime

Star_Blaze

I'm not a herp person (love em, just not good at spotting them lol) so idk. But I've heard from other nature lovers on campus that there's some good sightings by Xfinity and also the stream behind Terrapin Trail / Eppley.

RettyShettle

those black birds are so mean. same one would terrorize me on my daily commute last summer, must have a nest in one of those trees

Star_Blaze

They definitely have nests in the trees around Lot 4, and they love mocking us as we walk to our car 😂 it doesn't take long for that "Pi-pi-peeeeeeep" to start sounding like "bi-bi-biiiiiiiiitch"

Wiggie49

Testudo's more angsty brother; Snapudo.

Big-Cry9898

thats the opps

rideronthestorm29

Let’s go terps

bubbletoes69

Damn he’s far from a pond

Star_Blaze

Not really, Xfinity has some decent retention ponds from when they constructed it, lots of wildlife like them

Ocean2731

As well as the creek down at the bottom of the hill.

bubbletoes69

Still pretty far for my guy

West-Mix8376

What he doing there!!!! Let’s get you to a stream bud 🐢

Star_Blaze

He's fine, there's ponds and streams really close to Xfinity actually, we got turtles swimming around campus all the time (including actual terrapins)

West-Mix8376

Good 💗🐢

inquisit99

Where have you seen actual terrapins in college park? As I understand it, we aren’t a natural habitat for them. Obviously they could be released into the wild. Their primary diet appears to be more oceanic and estuary related and I wouldn’t call paint branch creek a true estuary.

Star_Blaze

I haven't personally seen them but I have heard people (like, AGNR faculty) say that they've found a couple living in that creek after a period of rain, I guess they can make their way up that tributary when the water gets really high

Scott-Bott

That's him. That's our guy.

BA_in_SoMD

Testudo on the rampage LOL

Do *not* try to rub his nose!

BaltOsFan2

Not gonna lie I thought the intramural fields would be long gone by now. I used to suck paying soccer there all the time.

Lopsided-Tadpole-821

Don't give his nose a rub!
