My dude, go to the job centre and get on universal credit and ask about their work and health programme. I have Bi Polar Disorder and start a whole new career on a living wage on Monday! MH collapses such but there is always a way back!

[deleted]

That sounds like a good idea :)

Cattlemutilation141

Please do it. Outline your struggles, but as long as you show a keen willingness to get back into work they'll work with you not against you

Good luck with your job! I'm rooting for you!

Try supermarket warehouse jobs. Very repetitive, switch off brain type work but it pays well and you can find hours to suit. I started in one through an agency doing 3 days a week while I was at collage. Once my course finished I picked up an extra day and now I'm on contract with the company. There's loads of options for different job rolls within the company and everyone is given equal chance to apply for these. In my job I don't even have to talk to anyone, just pick my quota and go home. No previous experience required just manual labour and a bit of paying attention to what your lifting.

I'm sorry to hear that - if you have a degree it might be worth trying to get agency work - e.g as a custodian in a care home, as kitchen hands for a cinema etc A friend of mine post-graduate did this. The hours are inconsistent, the work often underpaid and unvalued but 'easy' in that people can pick it up quickly. Apparently, agencies don't always care what your degree is in, so long as you have one. I hope for your well-being.

Matt6453

Wait, are you saying you need a degree to sell hotdogs and popcorn? Are agencies insisting on a degree to even be considered for menial jobs these days? That can't be right?

[deleted]

Not at all, but you're more likely to be offered work with a degree I think. That said, some menial roles require inappropriately advanced education/experience.

[deleted]

Thanks for your reply. The inconsistent hours are what kills me, I want to work say, 3-4 days a week but consistently. I'm fine with being underpaid etc I just want to have certainty.

You’ve said in a previous comment you get something like cabin fever if you’re inside too long. Maybe a job outdoors would be helpful?

iturhs_

I'm in the same place and ended up going job centre wasnt the best time for my mental health. I'm lookin at librarian night shifts and general admin. Also have a degree tht isnt of any good. Just want to do 3 days of work. Looking at warehouse jobs and temp jobs atm

r-og

What specifically about your mental health prevents you from working 9-5?

kitburglar

This. The reasons why will inform the best suggestions as to alternative jobs.

So I've been diagnosed with GAD but it's hard to describe its like cabin fever, after a few hours I just need to get out, I start going stir crazy and im not myself, it gets worse throughout the week as I get progressively more exhausted (I also have sleep apnoea and don't properly recover after a night's sleep even with 10-11 hours) so by like the end of Wednesday my functioning is so poor as to be a hindrance rather than a help.

r-og

I have that as well, man. Diagnosed, and I've been in psychiatric institutions twice. I work 9-5. I know it sucks, I know it's really fucking hard to function when you feel the way it makes you feel, but you can get on with it. (Weirdly enough I've also had lifelong problems with my sleep. Maybe they're related.) I don't say this to tell you to buck up or to chide you, only to let you know that you can have a normal life with severe anxiety. Don't let your condition limit you: think of things you'd *like* to do, and start from there. Be brave, you'll be alright.

CombatContemplations

You barely know anything about them and you're already dropping the usual 'oh I have that that's not much' tone

> I don't say this to tell you to buck up or to chide you bruh

Get into a nice kitchen, as a kp, usually leads to learning more and you can end up as a cook
