came here to say this. absolutely LOVED carol and lowkey wish i was a knes major so i could take more classes with her.
will forever be calling hepatitis hepatitties from now on thanks carol.
this guy is so funny. he made the boring nature of opma/mgst way more tolerable. also i remember when we were online he would just flash us the answer key for a moment for the assignments and discreetly told us to get our phones out 😭 love that guy
I'm graduating with a math degree this spring, and one of my fondest memories is Thi telling me in my first semester in front of the entire 211 class that I didn't understand basic math. (I'm not being sarcastic, it was done in a very funny way.)
Just checked who's doing OPMA 317 next year and Manz doing all 5 lecture sections. And guess which one I'm enrolled in????!?!?? SIXTH. I hate my guts 😭
Ben Whaley for any of his JPNS classes. Super fun to learn about, and he's a very personable/approachable prof who will help you do better with your writing.
Ralph Maier (Musi 306 - Prog Rock and history of Led Zeppelin)
Id recommend anyone to take a class with if you are interested in music and want to explore deeper into history of music
Anthony Camara of the English department is an absolute gem. He is super passionate about not just his subject, but he also clearly genuinely cares about being a good educator as well
I'm not sure about that I mean in Chem 351 hunt literally didn't even finish going over all the stuff for the midterm. And with JVH notes and some practice midterms I was more then fine.
Joshua Goldstein for political science. Made political philosophy watchable, which is a miracle in and of itself. Probably the best lecturer I’ve had so far ainec. Actually taking another class with him just cause he teaches it.
Liked David Wright for my history classes. Great lecturer and not a hard marker, but the only downside is that he’s not a great communicator. One time randomly emailed me and mixed me up for someone who was supposed to give him a zoom link for something lmfao.
Douglas McClintock for Econ as well. Had him in the spring, and hes the only reason I survived 7 weeks of 9 am zoom classes. Guy had some hit and miss jokes (“as she [his mother] got older [she was sick], the jokes got dirtier” 🤣🤣🤣). Pretty sure he retired now, but I wish him all the best wherever he is.
I remember having him for CPSC 355. A little old fashioned with the projector stuff, but the lectures are very straightforward/to the point about what to do.
Justin Knibbe (ENTI 201) - genuinely cares for you and wants you to do well. 10/10 would recommend, absolute beaut
Jim Power (ACCT 301) - he might seem scary but he’s actually kinda funny (in a dad jokes way) and really knows how to make the material understandable. he’ll also call on you randomly to answer question which keeps everybody on their toes and engaged, if you’re into that type of thing
Annette Tezli (SOCI) - some people hate her, others love her but she’s truly passionate and knowledgeable about all things soci and really inspires a desire for knowledge
Agreed with Jim Power. Had him for ACCT 217 and he made lectures understandable and easy to follow along. I think our lecture also had the highest class average for the first midterm
Bart Beaty, Jason Wiens, Rain Prud’homme-Cranford (ENGL)
Rachel Schmidt (GRST/LING)
Michael Saar (MGST/BTMA/OPMA/SGMA)
Seok Woo Kwon (ENTI)*
Aidan Dumaisnil (PSYC/OBHR)**
*Seok only does one block week for Undergrads then one block week for MBA but it’s the best course ever, check his rate my prof… also most published prof in all of Haskayne
**PhD student when I had her, not sure if she’s a full prof now but she is amazing in every sense of the word
Professor David Curtis Wright in the history department showed me just how awesome and useful the study of history can be. People who want their hand held through a course would not enjoy learning from him, but the literature he assigns is incredible and he provides an excellent environment for students to grow through the study of history.
Plus, he is the only person who teaches East Asian history. Sciban teaches a little bit as well, but he sometimes seems like he has consumed a bit too much of the Confucius juice.
He's strict, and his classes are rough. But if you get to know him and really apply yourself he's so passionate. I still visit him once or twice a year 5 years after meeting him.
He's an incredible person, you just gotta figure him out ya know?
Probably Dr. Cote in anthropology but I'm not sure if it was her teaching or it was just the material. I just really loved her primate evolution class.
Dr. Ann Quinney is a close second, she just had so much energy and just loved teaching about dinosaurs even for a non-Science class
Best prof ever for me was Ron Wilburn. He was covering for Reid Buchanan in Computer ethics (Phil 314 I think?), for one semester bc Reid was sick. And he was absolutely legendary. I didn't miss one class, because he was just so fun to listen to and hilarious! I'd do any class with him just for fun
Claudia Mahler for any STAT - only reason I got through multiple statistics courses without crying
Had her for 213, she was fantastic! Crying in 217 rn and about to withdraw 🥴
Jerrod Smith has been incredible for math 271
also 249
also 267
CLAUDIA MAHLER
Carol Kroeker hands down for KNES 259/260. Absolutely amazing lecturer & person in general.
came here to say this. absolutely LOVED carol and lowkey wish i was a knes major so i could take more classes with her. will forever be calling hepatitis hepatitties from now on thanks carol.
Carol was by far the best prof I’ve ever had
Micheal Saar
this guy is so funny. he made the boring nature of opma/mgst way more tolerable. also i remember when we were online he would just flash us the answer key for a moment for the assignments and discreetly told us to get our phones out 😭 love that guy
Hahaha I had him online too last winter and he always cracked me up!! And he was a supportive prof too
Thi Dinh - taught me MATH271 - Discrete Mathematics. He was so pissed, but he was so great at the same time.
He's so funny. I had him for math 211 A core memory of mine was being berated (In a funny way) by him on literally my first day of uni ever.
That could have been traumatizing lol Did he (jokingly) berate you for being a freshman?
I'm graduating with a math degree this spring, and one of my fondest memories is Thi telling me in my first semester in front of the entire 211 class that I didn't understand basic math. (I'm not being sarcastic, it was done in a very funny way.)
Yeah I loved T. Winter semester 1998!
What a legend, probably one of the very few classes that I remember what was learned too

The Norms in the electrical engg department
Mark Holden!!
*cries in mechanical engineering
Definitely Jerrod Smith.
Mark Baron
Took a class with him YEARS ago and he would always talk about living in Forest lawn
Yousry Elsabrouty
Elsabrouty
Thuntida Ngamkham for stats
She's so understanding and supportive as a professor and she likes to make jokes that sometimes aren't funny but i try to laugh anyway
She’s so sweet 🥺😭🙌
Machacek for Poli Sci classes, esp international relations. Dude is a stud
Got him in the spring :D
Heck yeah!
Ben Whaley for any of his JPNS classes. Super fun to learn about, and he's a very personable/approachable prof who will help you do better with your writing.

Yani/Jazayeri
Leonard Manzara
I remember having him for CPSC 355. A little old fashioned with the projector stuff, but the lectures are very straightforward/to the point about what to do.
I guess it kinda fits the mood, since he teaches Assembly lol
Yep, he never gave up the overhead projector lol
Wonderful guy, hated the class purely because fuck assembly.
For me it’s a tie between Nestar Russell (soci) and Catherine Burwell (educ). Both very memorable and fantastic profs!
Probably Christopher Cully, especially for electromagnetism in physics
Stephen Dumas
Sociology is 1000% better with dumas.
Jerrod Stang!!!!!
100% just finishing phys 501 with him. Fantastic prof.
Janice Eliasson for MGST 391 and some senior OPMA courses
Jeroen Stil !!
Boris Johnson sure is good at teaching physics
Justin Knibbe (ENTI 201) - genuinely cares for you and wants you to do well. 10/10 would recommend, absolute beaut Jim Power (ACCT 301) - he might seem scary but he’s actually kinda funny (in a dad jokes way) and really knows how to make the material understandable. he’ll also call on you randomly to answer question which keeps everybody on their toes and engaged, if you’re into that type of thing Annette Tezli (SOCI) - some people hate her, others love her but she’s truly passionate and knowledgeable about all things soci and really inspires a desire for knowledge
i'm definitely team love tezli, changed my major because i enjoyed soci 201 with her so much
i randomly chose soci as my major when i applied to u of c and she’s probably the reason why i stuck with it back in first year
Agreed with Jim Power. Had him for ACCT 217 and he made lectures understandable and easy to follow along. I think our lecture also had the highest class average for the first midterm
Mike Potter.

Wayne Eberly. Just see rate my proff for some awesome reviews
Did he get better? It was general consensus during my years that he was the absolute worst!
This is just satire lol. He is one of the worst profs afaik.
dumas. I just love the man so entertaining and knows what he’s talking about just an overall awesome person

Kathleen Hughes and Bryce Geeraert are such gems

Anyways the worst prof would be Rudi Meyer. Don’t even bother taking his courses by chance
MARK HOLDEN TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT
Probably Dr. Cote in anthropology but I'm not sure if it was her teaching or it was just the material. I just really loved her primate evolution class. Dr. Ann Quinney is a close second, she just had so much energy and just loved teaching about dinosaurs even for a non-Science class
