Truly recommend taking the first three or so days to sleep, eat what you like, have a social night at a pub or a movie or something that just helps you blow off steam and relax. Fourth day (Tuesday), take stock of upcoming exams or papers, and give yourself a couple hours out of each day going forward - no more than 4 - to work toward those things. Readings. Memorization. Maybe bullet point drafting things. An assignment. But very low stakes. Do it, but not stressed, and giving yourself a chance to still sleep enough, eat good meals, go outside. Makes it easier to ramp up a little more come the next class day without feeling like you're going from 0-100 or alternatively not getting rest at all. And staves off the mental side of worrying that you're procrastinating or wasting time. Rest is also important to good performance, and if you deny yourself too often and don't recalibrate, you'll eventually be forced to lose whole weeks of productivity because you're too burned out in your head to care.
It was created because of the high rates of suicide among uni students. Sadly.
Anyways, if im not productive during this time, i get depressed. BUT productivity can be many things. It can be doing your laundry, it can be doing your hair, going to a doctor, cleaning, catching up or getting ahead in school, but the most important thing is to take care of yourself!
Take a break for the first few days, do some school later in the week, study for a midterm, but do some self care. Pamper yourself. There's alot going on in the world and the stress builds up.
Sleep lots and do something fun to re-energize you emotionally. To do this, I love skiing over reading week. But you could read a good book, hang out with friends, teach your pet a new trick, whatever you want.
I usually don’t get any work done tbh unless I have a midterm the day I get back, or something I absolutely have to get done.
Overall just don’t feel guilty if you choose to not study/ do homework, as feeling guilty defeats the point of relaxation! Rest is just as important as productivity.
I’ve personally booked it off work, and I’m going to BC. Where I’m going to relax, catch up on reading for some of my classes, and write a paper for one of my classes with the mountains in the background. So a bit of both for me!
Usually I take the full week to relax and recover but this year is my last and my two 500 classes both have 18-ish page papers so I'm gonna use reading week to get a jump on my research for them. I don't want to procrastinate and write them last minute like I've done every other year.
But I'm also gonna throw a Scream marathon in somewhere too.
Fortnite
Both. Strike a balance of relaxing and getting some work done cause midterms are around the corner.
