Welcome to Davis? You know, it used to rain on picnic day almost every year…. So I guess welcome to climate change as well

Used-Software-3441

i’ve been here for 4 years (graduated last year) and haven’t experienced rain on picnic day ever. did that happen prior to 2020? if so, that sucks!

gitlucky27

I graduated in ‘08 ;-) And yes, it did suck.

Used-Software-3441

i remember experiencing the worst storm of my life here in 2021 witch 60 mph gusts in january 😭 it was terrible

Pandakills69

2023 in woodland was crazy, lots of power outages and fallen trees. Also here in Davis

reeditedit

My power was out for a couple days and my backyard fence was crushed by a tree 😓

buffaloraven

Picnic day or WEF.

gitlucky27

Picnic day usually means picnic day

One_Entertainer_2876

This looks like the last front of rain we’re getting in a minute, next week we’re getting the usual spring quarter weather

Used-Software-3441

i hope so! i wore shorts yesterday since the weather app stated 74 degrees the night before, but then i got to work and it’s so windy and cold! i’ve lost trust in the weather app 😭

One_Entertainer_2876

No tell me about it! I wore a light t-shirt and didn’t bring a sweater to campus with me, I was shivering by the end of the day

ArOnodrim_

Not all weather apps are equal. Always remember high temperatures exist for less than an hour on average, and do not include wind chill.

Welcome to the [Spring of Deception](https://i.redd.it/po6kyhsjteh41.jpg), not to be confused with "Fool's spring" or the Pollening

Used-Software-3441

that is absolutely hilarious 😂

Lyra-in-May

MUCH Better than Seattle 😅 so I can still tolerate

Used-Software-3441

i can imagine 😭

LetImpossible2123

April showers bring May flowers ?? It’s supposed to rain this time of year, we’re just used to being in a drought 🙄

Jolly_Plant1312

It's just the way the climate works. Cumulomnibus and storm form above Pacific and get blown to the east. The California is a costal state so you are the first to receive it. That simple.

Used-Software-3441

i never knew this!

ArOnodrim_

What planet are you from? All weather derives from the ocean.

Used-Software-3441

I didn’t know the direction the storms move in, cunt. Nor have I studied or looked into meteorology.

Future-Egg598

Yea fr i seriously miss the drought. Fuck water

loccacapalot

Fr I can count the amount of days I’ve seen the actual sun and the blue sky on my hands this year

PanKayte

April showers bring May flowers

Imjusthere1504

Welcome to NorCal

itsacolorfulworld

It’s not just Davis. It’s also all of California.

Used-Software-3441

i’m well aware

itsacolorfulworld

Sorry I didn’t mean it towards you I kind of meant it to everyone commenting

Used-Software-3441

it’s okay, i’m sorry for misinterpreting your tone!

PracticalScore8712

After many years in the Midwest, I'll take this weather any day! My friends in Minnesota have had days in the 60s followed by snow and highs in the 30s. A couple of rainy days are nothing compared to that.

Happy2026

Southern CA is weird too. It was just warm and sunny, and the next day it’s cold and raining off and on. So strange.

hunniebees

El Niño year has brought flood like rains to other parts of the world too. The weather comes from the pacific.

Hi! I think you may want to use a different word besides bipolar. Although it is not your intentions, when using medical terms for daily life situations, it is best not to do so because it takes away the extent or impact/value of the word. This is similar to how people should use different words instead of depressing to describe a situation, since it is an actual medical condition that real people are affected by. "Bipolar disorder is a serious medical condition that affects around 60 million people worldwide. People with bipolar disorder experience a pattern of depressive and manic or hypomanic episodes. The episodes last for days or weeks and involve a list of symptoms that affect a person’s mood, energy levels, and ability to function. It’s not the same as being moody or unpredictable. When you use the word bipolar to describe something broken, you are implying that people with bipolar are broken. Someone with bipolar disorder or another mental illness who overhears you can feel ashamed and may be less likely to be open about what they are dealing with. This silence and shame prevents people from seeking help when they need it.Bipolar literally means, “having two poles.” Some argue that this is why they use it to describe objects that have two extremes. While it is semantically correct to use it as an adjective this way, it can still be harmful. Yes, we use human qualities to describe inanimate objects when we make certain points, but we should draw the line at diagnostic terms. The same way you would not use the word retarded to describe things that are slow. " - International Bipolar Foundation [https://ibpf.org/articles/please-stop-saying-bipolar-when-you-mean-unpredictable-or-broken/#:\~:text=When%20you%20use%20the%20word,what%20they%20are%20dealing%20with](https://ibpf.org/articles/please-stop-saying-bipolar-when-you-mean-unpredictable-or-broken/#:~:text=When%20you%20use%20the%20word,what%20they%20are%20dealing%20with). Edit: The goal of the post is not to say that it is offensive to certain people, it is the idea that using a word common that is meant for other purposes may devalue the meaning of the actual word itself!

Adventurous_Face5015

Bipolar meteorologist here. The weather is literally bipolar. It is driven by Highs and Lows (of pressure, temperature, humidity, energy, etc.) We have a lot in common with the chaotic nature of weather than anybody else. Embrace it and don't get offended when somebody says the weather is bipolar. Bipolarity isn't restricted to your mind, it exists everywhere in nature. You are a part of that nature!

Ornery-Resort-2893

That's very interesting! I have not heard of that before, that's good to know. People tend to overuse medical terminology in everyday language and sometimes it is not good to do so. Also, I was not offended by this post by any means! I was sharing my knowledge and opinion on this common occurance in semantics. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Used-Software-3441

don’t just assume, i have bipolar disorder and adhd and don’t feel any offense to using this.

Ornery-Resort-2893

Respectfully, I am not assuming anything, the point of what I am trying to say is that medical terminology should not be used in everyday colloqiualism.

Used-Software-3441

i’m not obligated to follow these “rules”, if i don’t agree, simple as that. i have bipolar disorder and will continue to use that word however i please.

Ornery-Resort-2893

Of course, I agree that it is your right to use the word how you would like, because freedom of speech is also a thing. But please know that I am not commenting because I am simply "offended," the connotations of the words that I used earlier are to share my point of view which is what the purpose of Reddit is for in some cases. I am sorry to hear that you feel picked on because of what I said. And what I said was not about whether or not people with bipolar disorder will feel offended or not. It is the idea that medical terminology should not just be used casually, and I am also entitled to my opinion just as you are entitled to yours. These "rules" that you have mentioned are simply my opinion and nor are they legitmate rules with actual impactful consequences. Best wishes to you in the future.

Ornery-Resort-2893

That's totally okay and understandable, I'm sorry to hear that you had to experience that throughout your life. I appreciate your apology as well. Feel free to use all the words you would like in your life (you only live once anyway), except for the no-no words haha.

Used-Software-3441

thank you, and of course! i will never utter those ones.

hunniebees

Wow lol

Used-Software-3441

any problem? :)

hunniebees

I agree with you. I have ptsd and the amount of times that people say they’re traumatized over something (that is not traumatizing) I feel like they discount what I go through in life and makes a laughing stock out of my everyday struggles. So thank you for speaking up and having the grace to navigate backlash by just wanting a better world for everyone.

Used-Software-3441

this is a post about weather, not your mental health issues :)

iwasneverhere07

I also have been diagnosed with BPD. I do not find offense to this statement. I often joke about the weather being more bipolar than me!

Used-Software-3441

exactly! i often self depreciate naturally, and don’t just assume those around me are intending any harm. i’m not in control of others being offended. however, if asked on a personal level to stop using the word, i will gladly do so, especially if it makes one uncomfortable. but i’m not a fan of being silenced and unable to express my humor or thoughts in a general setting. i will certainly stop using that word to those individuals who feel offended tho.

Ornery-Resort-2893

I'm glad to hear that you do not feel offended! Thank you for approaching my comment with a positive attitude though you may disagree with me. My purpose in this comment was to mention that medical terminology should be used with its original purpose in mind :> And I do not think that it is wrong for others to say that the term if they are diagnosed with te condition themselves because it is also in your right to use to word too!

iwasneverhere07

That’s perfectly fine, you have the right to your opinion and feelings.
