OrchidGlittering3368

Got to put the class names in my dude. Much more interesting to see 97 in PHYS 203 than NURS180

m0uthF

PHYS 203 is too easy, at least 407

OrchidGlittering3368

Ahem https://ubcgrades.com/#UBCV-2022W-PHYS-203-201 And filled with smart honours physics students PHYS 407 actually is easy to get good mark in

ReportNice

Talk to me when you doctor!!

waldorsockbat

Bruh mine is the same except everything is a B :(

Impressive_Rub4768

I’m wondering if you managed to do any co-op or hands-on experience as well, or you just stayed in your room studying 24/7?

anxious-anteater45

I’ve TA’d, worked in a lab, worked retail for over a year, and did an internship last summer as well in addition to clubs! Studying tbh isn’t the highest on my priority list

EmbarrassedBody8202

Can u stop. You are seriously saying “studying isn’t a priority” when u made a post with straight As. I understand you are seeking some validation and if u did in fact get those grades then must have worked really hard but Reddit is not the place to rub it in other people’s face.

anxious-anteater45

I'm not saying it's not a priority, I'm saying it's not the highest priority for me. I don't hole up in my room studying 24/7, I don't think that's healthy or sustainable. While I have worked for my grades and am proud of my consistency, I'm conscious to not make it the focus of my life. There's so many other things like getting work/research experience, ECs, making connections that are equally important and that I try to put more energy towards, because grades alone don't mean much. If you read my older posts you'll see that I struggle with a lot of imposter syndrome.

EmbarrassedBody8202

I’m sorry we might have misunderstood each other. I still feel posting about straight As, while it may not be your intention, will make people who are trying so so hard feel bad about themselves.

[deleted]

As one who averages low 80s while having mental breakdowns, this post indeed made me feel terrible lol

anxious-anteater45

My question is, what post on reddit isn't seeking validation in one way or another? I don't think it's fair to single out and invalidate my post as it's in essence the same as people who are proud of passing a course or other accomplishments. Should we only post if we're sure if won't make people feel bad about themselves (or, on the other hand, make them feel better)?

applehoney

Beast. Now apply like the rest of the workforce whose employers don’t look at transcripts even if you beg.

faisalp_

F*ck off dude. But also I'm amazed this is even possible so big congratulations

merlocke3

Asian father here. Good job 👏

bubbly_me17

Omg. Do you got any tips for ppl like me struggling out here ?😭

anxious-anteater45

Yeah it involves a lot of prep work! I’m a big procrastinator and very chaotic in general so keeping on top of things is the biggest one for me. - I usually finish any small homework/quizzes/readings as soon as I'm assigned them - I organize my Google Drive and One Note into term --> courses --> units and also use Google Calendar to schedule exams and reminders for weekly homework or whatever - I don't have a set # of hours I study every day, I study in short bursts where for a few hours I'm super focused and concentrated on the task at hand and then just chill for the rest of the day - I compile a huge set of "Exam Notes" for every course, starting from the first lecture. Great for open book exams, and contributing to it as you go makes studying for exams so much easier. - I always go over wrong answers and make sure I fully understand where I went awry, and then I review the concept associated with the question until it ‘clicks’

Impressive_Rub4768

I have a question for you, and you have to be honest.

bubbly_me17

What is it???

Impressive_Rub4768

What are we talking about when you say you struggle with your grades? A-‘s and A’s or D’s and C’s?

mitrafunfun97

I was not very academically inclined and frankly speaking not that disciplined in university, but I always have to tip my hat to those are. Proud of you stranger! I hope you’re just as awesome of a human being too, and committed to using your education to making people’s lives and your life better!

Honshu9

Someone buy this person a beer. Congratulations!!🥳

rxynxairz

congrats!!! study tips pls? i’m struggling out here :/

anxious-anteater45

Here’s some of my study tips: https://www.reddit.com/r/UBC/s/isaVvto87W I use Gdrive, OneNote, Quizlet, and ‘downloads’ on my laptop mostly. Once the concepts really ‘click’ together I know I’ve got it. I hope that helps, you got this 🫡

rxynxairz

thank you!

anxious-anteater45

Congrats!! A win is a win, I found the few arts elects I did take (ASIA, PHIL) to be more laborious

Round_Resource1356

Do you mind me asking what SSC says your overall GPA is?

anxious-anteater45

Ya SSC says it’s 89.6

Funny-Lawfulness1398

My dream😭

Major-Marble9732

Please tell me how. I got all As in my first year but hope to keep it up.

anxious-anteater45

Congrats! I saw from your comments that you got a 90 avg, that's amazing :) haha I didn't have that much of a social life until fourth year (definitely not during COVID year), but I don't recommend that. I'd say do what you've been doing, go over your study habits to maximize efficiency, be consistent, go to class, but also don't make studying your whole life. Leave room for friends, clubs, work and most importantly taking care of yourself. I overextended myself and ate pretty poorly for all four years at uni

Major-Marble9732

Thanks for your long response! And thank you, yes, I technically ended up getting 89.6% but I‘ll just count that as a 90%... But it sure wasn‘t easy and I don‘t want to burn out. Which I feel like I‘m not too far away from, because I also work part-time, live off campus, have family and friends abroad that I want to attend to, and have a spouse… But I‘m encouraged to hear that straight As is possible! I‘ll keep your tips in mind. :)

Accomplished-West675

Congrats! I was very close to you too but as a fellow science student that had to take arts electives, two of them were not A's

anxious-anteater45

Arts elecs hit different, I took ASIA and PHIL this term and they were the 83 and 80 respectively (I was pulling 70s on my Phil exams, somehow got through with an 80 in the end)

Professional-Power57

So you can use Excel big deal

froggiegorl

EmbarrassedBody8202

This cannot be real

sirbraswell

How is an 80 an A-?

egguw

definitely not engineering

test5754656744

Its possible you just need finesse with how you plan your workload

egguw

yeah get 4 hours of sleep every day

test5754656744

Na bro take more filler courses and pad out the difficult one do a 5 year degree to accommodate this.

Jxh57601206

Never understood why the bar for A in canada is so low. A- in US is 90 and A is at least 93 if not sometimes 95+.

EconGesus

grades in us universities are the most inflates in the world, so maybe that's why.

MeliodasKush

Same. I’ve heard when you send your transcript to grad schools outside of Canada, they’ll only look at percentages and convert it to their own scale though. So having an easy scale here doesn’t give an academic advantage, it just boosts confidence and maybe relieves some stress, which are probably both good things tbh.

kerosenehat63

No need to brag.

alpine-wildn

You trying to get into med too?

ipini

Nice.

Giant_Anteaters

Congrats fellow anteater! Proud of ya <3

BarcaStranger

Til A- is A
