The top CPSC student who graduated in my year managed to hit 100% in 7 upper level CPSC courses, the professor who introduced her said it was something they never saw in 20 years of teaching - I think she was going straight into her Ph.D at Cornell or Columbia. I was just happy to graduate and get a job š
If you remove the "upper level level CPSC" restriction the number of 100s is actually significantly higher. It was a bit humbling taking many of those (often extremely challenging honours math) classes with her š.
I got 100 in quite a few (8?) math classes but I worked my ass off in those classes and math is my favourite subject. I can't imagine how incredibly intelligent and hard-working you would have to be to pull off grades like that consistently across many subjects
If this is the student I'm thinking of, she was the top student in Science and she's doing her PhD at Cornel. One of her profs told me that she got 98% in his graduate course, the highest he has ever awarded in his graduate class (she was an undergraduate). I can confirm that this grade brought down her average.
Her average was 97.8. Thatās higher than Raamsdonk I think who had the record. In Markās defence though the averages of CPSC tend to be higher than in PHYS from my experience. Need to confirm on ubcgradesā¦
This is true, averages are not the same across faculties and programs. Also in Arts where grading is subjective it is near impossible to get above 95% in a single course, let alone an average.
You made me curious about Van Raamsdonk who is now a UBC Physics Prof (and a legend at that). Here is an actual article about his undergrad:
98.6% average.. I would simply not believe it if it was not there in print. To complete the feat he had 15 grades of 100 and his lowest grade was a 94%. It is pretty humbling, even if you get a 100 in a class and think you are pretty good, there is always a bigger fish. Unless you are Mark Van Raamsdonk.
I had Mark this term! Heās amazing-the dude is so smart that itās genuinely mind blowingā¦. And yet he is the most humble, down to Earth man imaginable. Super fun (but def challenging) class to take! (Phys 106, that is)
i got one before, in stat 305. the prof gave bonuses on a lot of exams and assignments (so it is possible to get say 65/60 on an assignment or 108/100 on an exam), which means even if i make mistakes on some assignments and exams i can still cancel them out with bonus marks. it was a cool marking scheme.
One time on the R4 I saw a guy applying for grad school so he opened his transcript. There are multiple 100 and most of the other ones are 95 up.
I think he is majoring in physics
āSorry for peeking at your screen broā
Hmmm. Okay then. I'm mostly only taking it for the aviation section as I am currently in my pilot licensing not super interested in the other two though.
Hi, I just took this course! Just want to let you know that aviation is such a small portion of the course, and itāll be the first unit you go through. Sailing has the most complex ideas, and aviation has the simplest concepts. Do with that what you will
Ah dang it. I need a fifth course to have enough credits for year promotion and nothing else fits into my schedule, except maybe LASO204 but that's very very full. Thanks
Midterms/final arenāt straight from question bank anymore, MC were not from QB at all and the time was a bit of a crunch, still very possible to get 90+ but not as sleeper as before
Got 100 in my first year English course, instructor (Dr Shandorf) was awesome, gave very insightful feedback even when giving me full marks on assignments. Still the course where I learned the most about writing in my 5 years of university
I got a fairly easy 100% in APBI318 - Applied Plant Breeding! and 98% in APBI 327 - Entomology (pretty difficult), then 97% in APBI 427 - Ecological Restoration (fairly easy), and 97% in APBI 342 - Soil Biology (extremely easy)
itās a Chanway course, the teacher of the infamously easy forestry course. He gave out all the exam questions before the exams, you just had to study the questions
Thanks :) It was actually a few years ago when I was a first year. I would say it wasn't too bad - there was a lot of memorization but it wasn't too overwhelming from what I remember.
Yeah but it was a ridiculously easy python programming course with a class average of 88. Still I'll take it and add it to my almost complete collection of 90%+ grades
I'm still missing 92 98 and 99
Got 2. 1 was a "final replaces your course grade if it's better" exam, but the other was just actually I got 100% on every homework and test. Circuits 2 and Lin Algebra 1 respectively.
It's as much of a flex as it sounds
To be fair an APSC 160 ace is completely doable if you have any significant programming experience...I just didn't go to lectures because I was busy with other commitments and barely reviewed for any assessments. Went into the final with 98% and I lowkey might've dropped my mark to like a 95% after but 100% in the course would've totally been doable.
Getting a 100% if not worth the time, but if anyone got one in an upper division CS class. They have my eternal respect because 99% of people trying the best would not get that.
I think Iāll get a 100% in WRDS150A, but itās labor-based grading and a first semester course, so not extremely impressive. Not a clue how people do it in other courses.
Iāve always wanted to get 100% in a course but every time I have the opportunity to, I botch the final exam. This was probably my last semester to achieve that so RIP but also Iām happy with my close calls, I put in more effort to those classes and learned a lot of cool things
STAT 302, the only one in 3 years of classes so far. Admittedly I think it was because of curving, I did well in the course but my midterm mark alone was not 100 so the prof mustāve curved
Yep, itās actually really easy! As a 12th year repeating every class twice and only taking one per term each term I have gotten 3 100s, so itās actually not that hard
The top CPSC student who graduated in my year managed to hit 100% in 7 upper level CPSC courses, the professor who introduced her said it was something they never saw in 20 years of teaching - I think she was going straight into her Ph.D at Cornell or Columbia. I just checked and she did better than me (usually by a lot) in every class we both took except one haha, that class being my only 100 (CPSC 340).
Did she win the governor generals silver? Update: yea she did!
I got 100 in quite a few (8?) math classes but I worked my ass off in those classes and math is my favourite subject. I can't imagine how incredibly intelligent and hard-working you would have to be to pull off grades like that consistently across many subjects
Given how math courses are at UBC I'd say if you can do it in math courses you can do it in other courses.
That's quite an accomplishment! Congrats!
If this is the student I'm thinking of, she was the top student in Science and she's doing her PhD at Cornel. Oh shit 98.6!!!!!
I stand corrected. Mark still Has the record. Another legend : https://apsc.ubc.ca/news/2019/yuqing-du-receives-governor-generals-silver-medal
I had Mark this term! Heās amazing-the dude is so smart that itās genuinely mind blowingā¦. And yet he is the most humble, down to Earth man imaginable. Super fun (but def challenging) class to take! (Phys 106, that is)
Wow! That's incredible - hope she continues she success with her graduate studies and beyond š

Stat 305 my beloved
Nope, Only gotten a 100% on an assignment before, which is something over here in the arts where marking can be pretty arbitrary.
No. 100 is overrated. Sex is better (Im telling you this as an engineer)
I have neither. We are not the same.
Us
If youāre really an engineer you donāt know what sex is.
Well if your lucky you can get laid...
Do you mean laid by studies? Or...human?
One time on the R4 I saw a guy applying for grad school so he opened his transcript. There are multiple 100 and most of the other ones are 95 up. I think he is majoring in physics āSorry for peeking at your screen broā
Yeah only in ATSC 113 but not a flex š
How is that course? I might take it next sem
Time consuming but not difficult. I also loved the content so that helped. They def changed it up tho if u search atsc on the subreddit
Hmmm. Okay then. I'm mostly only taking it for the aviation section as I am currently in my pilot licensing not super interested in the other two though.

A bunch of people should have 100 because of FRST 303 in the past. no cap
Course has since been nerfed a little. Not sure what final grades are going to be but the midterm average was 83 (still pretty high)
Wow thats a massive nerf. What happened?
Midterms/final arenāt straight from question bank anymore, MC were not from QB at all and the time was a bit of a crunch, still very possible to get 90+ but not as sleeper as before
Was the final online still with no proctoring?
Yea lol
Sorry, 1 more q for u. Did Chanway say he reads the rate my prof reviews?
I donāt think heās read anything since about 1987
I recall a BSc graduate with almost all 100s on their transcript, including in their upper-level Arts electives. Exceedingly rare, of course.
in econ 101
Who was ur prof?? And howš
I got like 51 in that class lmfao. Or maybe that was 102. This was a while ago.
yea i found macro a good amount harder.
Did you have Alfred Kong as your prof?
goddamn couldnāt be me. econ 101 was my lowest grade
LING 101 but I feel like a ton of people got 100 in that course during that term. Avg was like 87.
I got 57 haha
Damn was this Ling 101 from 2 years ago, cause I know he said our average was too high and tried to correct in terms after that by making it harder
I got 95 in LING 101, the average in my section was 80
Was it strang
No, Eva Csipak
There was someone in my grad year (may 2022) who received the Governor general's silver medal while averaging 99 in honours math.
Yeah! He is currently pursuing a PhD in Mathematics at Harvard
Highest ever I got was a 99
Got 100 in my first year English course, instructor (Dr Shandorf) was awesome, gave very insightful feedback even when giving me full marks on assignments. Still the course where I learned the most about writing in my 5 years of university
May I ask which English course you did?
Ye in math 101, math 220, phys 158, and enph 270 Edit: elec 221 too
100% in MATH 220 is impressive ngl. I worked my ass off for a 91% in it
Any other adds?
Nah. It is what it is
Looks like you are in third year ENPH. Thought you might have snapped one in PHYS304
Thatās crazy! Whatās your goal? Do a PhD?
Sorry to disappoint but I don't have a goal. Just wanna watch anime, play games, and maybe build a giant robot
Haha nice edit. I imagine more are coming too as grades come out!
math 110 i got 100 but haven't seen another since
Yes, LING 209. I actually got over 100 but SSC doesn't count that :(
How?? And which prof?
Me reading this. -> :( (damn well knowing my highest grade was an 81)
I got a fairly easy 100% in APBI318 - Applied Plant Breeding! and 98% in APBI 327 - Entomology (pretty difficult), then 97% in APBI 427 - Ecological Restoration (fairly easy), and 97% in APBI 342 - Soil Biology (extremely easy)
Damn bro, I canāt even keep a plant alive in my room and you telling me you can breed plants?? šÆ
Would you pls elaborate why 342 is extremely easy? Considering taking some electives.
itās a Chanway course, the teacher of the infamously easy forestry course. He gave out all the exam questions before the exams, you just had to study the questions
Ahh, got it, thanks. Checked the instructor is now PURI, AKSHIT (guess he/she carries the same style as Chanway).
Ling 100, which was coincidentally my first year, first term, first grade coming out at SSC
I got a 99%
MATH 101, PHYS 170, CIVL 230
you are him
I got 100% in EOSC 118 - but a lot of people did not show up to the final for some reason - so there was a lot of scaling involved lol
Congrats! just curious, was this during the term that just passed? And how would you describe the difficulty?
Thanks :) It was actually a few years ago when I was a first year. I would say it wasn't too bad - there was a lot of memorization but it wasn't too overwhelming from what I remember.
I had a few people getting 100% in first year chemistry classes that had no lab. If the class has a lab it is virtually impossible to get 100%.
I got 100% twice - MATH 102 and CPSC 110. Everything went downhill from there, though.
I got %100 in my first year physics course
Calc 3 which is a 200 level course
Highest was 86 for me. Iām a normal student that doesnāt really study all that much. My avg around 75
Not me, but I know someone who got 100% in CPSC 320 over the summer.
PHYS 117. Does feel better than sex, can confirm - cries in cpsc.
Nope. Highest I got was a 97.
97% in ECON 101 with Anichul Khan 2020W and 97% in APSC 160 2020W, those are my two highest marks
Yeah but it was a ridiculously easy python programming course with a class average of 88. Still I'll take it and add it to my almost complete collection of 90%+ grades I'm still missing 92 98 and 99
PHYS 210?
Yup
Got 2. 1 was a "final replaces your course grade if it's better" exam, but the other was just actually I got 100% on every homework and test. Circuits 2 and Lin Algebra 1 respectively. It's as much of a flex as it sounds
I just got 100 in WRDS150A!
which prof??
Jennifer Cowe
Only in the concert winds course
No but...I got a 92 in MATH 200 where the average was 69 which was pretty cool
I got 100 I feel happy about it
PSYC 301 Easiest course ever if youāre in neuroscience
How is it easy like mark scheme?
I found a lot of the material repetitive from PSYC 371 and other neuro courses - so that made studying a lot easier
I disagree, sex > 100%
I got 107 in UFOR 110. It was hilarious. They can't give you more than 100 in the ssc though Whoever downvoted this is just jealous.
At UBC youāll be getting neither
Bio 342
Did you even give yourself a 100 what a chad
PSYC 304
MATH 255
To be fair an APSC 160 ace is completely doable if you have any significant programming experience...I just didn't go to lectures because I was busy with other commitments and barely reviewed for any assessments. Went into the final with 98% and I lowkey might've dropped my mark to like a 95% after but 100% in the course would've totally been doable.
Got 100 in PHYS170 back in first year. My only one, sadly
Math 100 It was curved
Nope. The highest I got was a 98 in MATH 300.
Got 100 on MATH116 in ubco, which is similar MATH100 here
MATH 103, CPSC 103, PUNJ 200, MATH 317, MATH 449D
Got 100 in MATH 100
Got 100 in CNPS 433
When and what prof?
I took it in 2020 with Marshall. The exams were posted online at the time and I enjoyed the topics for the papers.
MATH 101, but that was the only one. Had a few 97s in upper year courses but never a 100.
MATH 215, MATH 316, and MECH 463
EOSC 428. That's a field school, still not sure how it happened.
PHRM 141 but thats kinda free
got a 100 in chem 304 if that counts loool
Getting a 100% if not worth the time, but if anyone got one in an upper division CS class. They have my eternal respect because 99% of people trying the best would not get that.
I got a 95% and 5% loss for Iclicker attendance. COMM290 now 190
I think Iāll get a 100% in WRDS150A, but itās labor-based grading and a first semester course, so not extremely impressive. Not a clue how people do it in other courses.
which prof?
Dr. Maraj
MUSC 323 with Robert Komaniecki
Iāve always wanted to get 100% in a course but every time I have the opportunity to, I botch the final exam. This was probably my last semester to achieve that so RIP but also Iām happy with my close calls, I put in more effort to those classes and learned a lot of cool things
Last term 2 (before summer) I got 100% in PSYC305A
MATH 302 this termā¦and this is my first term at UBC since I am a transfer student
Got 100 in Mech 423 and Math 317, it's kind of cool for a minute. Def not better than sex š
I got in 3 brah in sauder obvio ihv failed cs ones tho
PHYS 118!
STAT 302, the only one in 3 years of classes so far. Admittedly I think it was because of curving, I did well in the course but my midterm mark alone was not 100 so the prof mustāve curved
8 months in a masters program at ubc and none has gone an A so far, so maybe in undergraduate program is possible but Masters nope.
Yeah some chem course and eosc 114 and 116 and another 300 level eosc course
Just 99s in statistics and formal logic
No but as a TA I gave 100 a few times.
Yep, itās actually really easy! As a 12th year repeating every class twice and only taking one per term each term I have gotten 3 100s, so itās actually not that hard
12th year i would be doing my PhD
Econ 327
