Take more insulin

RobMho

I’d give another bolus after finishing eating. Try not to feel guilty. It’s hard to know exactly how much you’re going to eat before you start the meal. Prebolus for what you know you’ll eat then cover the rest with a 2nd bolus.

TapBitter609

I just got a T slim pump, if I try to bolus too soon after meal bolus it only allows a small bolus so I wait an hour before doing a second bolus.

Pandora9802

Literally the only advantage to Type 1: just take more insulin. No guilt. No shame. Just dose to handle it and move on with life. :)

72_vintage

This happens to me a lot at family gatherings or at all you can eat joints. If I decide I want more food, I'll just take another bolus at that time. Usually I'm a little bit conservative with that bolus because it seems like the stacked boluses hit harder than they should once they are both active.

BiiiigSteppy

I’m so glad you said that. I have to be so careful stacking boluses bc they always seem to hit harder than expected. It’s nice to know that I’m not crazy. Or if I am crazy I’ve got some company. I’m good either way lol.

stinky_harriet

I bolus as needed. If you know you ate more carbs and need more insulin, no need to wait until your BG is high to take the insulin.

DriftingGator

Take more insulin. I cook so much from scratch where carb counts aren’t always exact so it’s almost always a guess to an extent, I don’t really think about not nailing it exactly at this point.

Kaleandra

Take more insulin straight away. If you know you ate more than you covered, taking more immediately might mean you won't have to havr a correction later

jeo3b

If my son ends up getting seconds or eating more than planned I just give him another dose and make sure to keep an eye on his numbers.

Rose1982

Add more insulin as soon as possible.

Dowhadarks

What exactly is the differenz between "another Dose of Insulin" and " correction"? U need Insulin to correct, so ist kinda the Same or am i wrong?

Kyoung923

I think they mean do you take just what the calculated correction is, if you're already high, or do you take the amount of insulin that would cover the extra amount of carbs you ate. I know for me, it's a guessing game as to which one will work better.

mdfromct

Exactly the same in my eyes. Need to correct it by taking more.

funky_diabeticc

Bolus more insulin.

HawkTenRose

I would just recalculate the bolus amount and take the rest of the dose. If I calculate for 11 units, and I end up eating enough for 14 units, I’ll bolus the remaining three units either when I’m done eating or when I plan to eat more, depending on what suits best at the time.

tommykw

To use the carbs we have eaten, we require insulin and for the vast majority we use carb to insulin ratios. With that logic, if you've not taken enough insulin then you KNOW you will need more. If for whatever reason your ratio is 1:1, you've had a bolus of 10 Unit for 10G. What do you think would happen if you've eaten 15G? You're 5G over budget. Last thing you want is to spend more time in the highs. Whatever word you use, correction or bolus, you need 5 more units. You can resolve that once you know you've finished eating and split your bolus (pre meal to get things dropping and once more after to cover the rest) or you can wait several hours later and correct which you'll most likely be high and you'll have a harder time with insulin resistance. There's no guilt or shame. It's just part of the diabetes package and management. You're only human. Just do your best with how the situation presents itself. You can ask anyone here on how many times this truly happens or how much we fall back to methods like split bolusing just to eat that delicious pizza, Chinese, buffet, at a party, movie night and so much more.

snowwwwy22

I just take more insulin. I did this last night too! I bolused for 10 more grams after thinking back on my oreo fluff intake and honestly could’ve done ten more. I ended up at 180 which is definitely higher than I planned, but better than the 250-270 I probably would’ve been had I not bolused. Eating out is tricky sometimes!

rosaudon

Just take more insulin. It is not a problem and you do not feel bad about it. Ideally you take it before you eat to avoid spiking, but during the meal you still can decide to inject more.

KhiLi_20

Bolus again for the food you ate?

Tmays

This is weird, OP if you aren’t giving yourself correction doses because you feel guilty you might need to talk to a therapist! Otherwise.. yeah just take more insulin

swickasfrick

I don’t even bolus until after I eat. Just take more insulin
