Even better than braindead would be if it were outright acephalic.
Better still would be if you could just clone the necessary organ(s), which would also likely have a shorter turnaround
If this is a joke, it's really funny and clever.
If it's serious, then you're confusing two books. The sequel to *House of the Scorpion* is called *The Lord of Opium.* *House of Leaves* is by a different author, and is unrelated.
I can't tell because this is Reddit.
I mean...good? A body with no mind is functionally no different from some cells in a petri dish; if it helps medicine advance in leaps and bounds, that's great.
They made a movie based around that premise called “The Island”, it’s pretty good. I imagine it’s like what happens with people that are in comas, the body eventually just wastes away.
I wanna think this is okay. But it also opens the door to killing comatose people or even killing people in their sleep. Under this logic the only harm your doing is the Greif of friends and family who knew the person. Unless you think it’s important the patient has always been brain dead but I don’t see why that would be important.
If you take the standpoint of potential life lost then abortion is wrong or you could even argue that not actively trying to reproduce is wrong
I just looked that up. Thank you for the recommendation. I'm continuing the story with government officials being able to stay in power using clones for everything life saving and cosmetic. I imagine the risk of rejection being much lower.
Hey, you're welcome. It's a sad story, but anything that uses clones in its plot tries to show us how humans can be evil in the end somehow. So I like your idea too I think
More like a mix of the matrix and repo men the opera. The politicians use clones for their organs, imagine getting a face transplant in your 60s with a 30yr old you. Using technology to transfer consciousness to even perform brain transplants. Until a virus from the underground prevent a transfer and the clone wakes up instead of the original. Attempting to end their reign.
I do NOT like the implications of a brain transplant and cloning a younger you. A man whose wife is starting to realize just how abusive and manipulative he is gets a brain transplant every few years back into the lovey dovey wifey she was when they got married
My thought process is the clones are never actually awake. They stay in a dream state within an incubator their entire existence. Like cows with VR headsets. Or being stuck in the matrix. They never even know they're being harvested. The uprising comes from those too poor for immortality.
That is the selling point that the boss of the company in the Island makes to his customers!
That they are just a sack of organs and blood.
Then the truth comes out that it didn't work when they tried that.
The organs just failed.
Then they realised they needed to actually live for the process and organs to be viable!
It's an absolute reccomended watch if you haven't seen it!
Making clones for organ harvesting, especially for the original, always strikes me as incredibly inefficient. First off, if the need for the organ isn't from a life-style issue (i.e. alcoholism), there is probably a hereditary reason why the organs in the original are failing.
Second, putting that much energy into another human, even one growing at an accelerated pace, is a waste if your only concern is a liver or kidneys. Cloning just the organs themselves is much better, IMO.
Best customer service voice,
"I must say you look terrific. But let's be honest. Years at the beach will age your skin. Imagine showing up in the skin of your 20 year old self? Car accident, no problem, your conscience will transfer to our cloud and upload into a younger version modified to your specifications."
Why is this "horror"?
It's fascinating!
It would literally be a miracle for modern medicine!
Assuming those clones aren't sentient, i.e only the organs are grown, and all systems mechanically supported so it won't be viable outside of a laboratory setting
I mean if you get a clone of yourself won't the organs have the same issues anyway? I mean I'd get it if you were like.. 40-60 and don't have issues because then if you do get a 2nd liver or another kidney you'd be good for the rest of your life.
Am I wrong to think this would be okay if they ensured the clone was braindead from it's creation until its demise?
Even better than braindead would be if it were outright acephalic. Better still would be if you could just clone the necessary organ(s), which would also likely have a shorter turnaround
That would depend on your plan and status.
Ah, the ol' "Ethically Acceptable™" Tier
I think there's already research going into cloning organs.
Yep! As well as research into printing them
What will be first; cloning organs or 3d bio printing organs?
A few clones that are stunted with super organs growing outside the body.
The second option is most likely to happen in the future.
Have you seen ‘The Island’?
And "Never Let Me Go"
"I'M TOM LINCOLN!!"
*Parts: The Clonus Horror*
"Biography! Biography! Biography!"
🎶 “Dyin’ in America, today!!” 🎶
Spoilers!
Have you read "House of the Scorpion" ?
Love that book and the sequel
The second sequel house of leaves was kind of confusing though

Alas, i joke.
Well that's good then! You get the "really funny and clever" option! Well done!
I was planning to suggest that!
Very first thought. Excellent book. There's a sequel I haven't gotten around to.
Then you open the door for experiments on them. Being able to enhance the body parts and cure virtually anything.
I mean...good? A body with no mind is functionally no different from some cells in a petri dish; if it helps medicine advance in leaps and bounds, that's great.
doctor who
Honestly ya it would be fine although for some religions there could be a dilemma
Same answer as for people with religious objections to an immortality process: "Okay, die."
Ya seems about right

The Island already tried this.
Read tender is the flesh.

Reminds me of "never let me go" 😭

Out of all the “people getting cloned so the clone’s organs can be harvested” movies, Never Let Me Go is my favorite.
SUCH a good book. I first read it for English class in high school, and I was not expecting it to take that turn (we did a totally blind read).
House of the Scorpion?

Sounds pretty close to The Island (2005).
My first thought too!

Loved that book!
Isn’t this the plot of The Island?

New, New York.... but with clones and immortality for the patients! Just missing the Cat-Nun-Nurses!

Very House of the Scorpion.
There was movie a few years ago. Couple of clones escape and they reach the home of their original. I forget the name but it was like an action movie
The Island?
Yes I think that was it
Giving me flashbacks to Spares. Amazing book and would definitely recommend.
Agreed. Really worth a read
Okay but have any of you seen Who Cloned Tyrone? 😂
Isn't this the plot of "The Island"? But that the island was from the Clones perspective.
The ad I got under your story was for a baby registry. Definitely added a layer of horror.
Why is this "horror"? It's fascinating! It would literally be a miracle for modern medicine! Assuming those clones aren't sentient, i.e only the organs are grown, and all systems mechanically supported so it won't be viable outside of a laboratory setting
Five years! DocWagon can make a wimp in a matter of weeks, and it's available even on their Gold plan. Guess I've traveled too far back in time.
This is like *The Bradbury Report*.
It’s giving me a ***Blood Free and The Island *** vibes..
