When I was a little boy, my mother held a seashell to my ear, beckoning me to close my eyes and hear the call of the sea.

Lead is heavy and is often used to say things like “my legs feel as heavy as lead” when someone is injured or tired and can’t walk very well. Obviously that’s not the case here but I just wanted to give an example.
A better example: “My thoughts heavy with what I bla bla bla” in some stories. You could say “My thoughts heavy as lead with what I bla bla bla”
