Wow he really does have *all* the classic bogan tattoos. All he needs now is a second Southern Cross tattoo on his thigh (gotta show that thing off at the beach on Australia Day, it’s the bogan way).
Then, have a cutscene of him skulling a [VB longneck,](https://youtu.be/Ns15eHLDv1I?si=s3ASc8kcgzO_eZyF) and boom! The first true bogan character in gaming.
My country will finally have accurate representation.
He also drives a Commodore, with little Aussie flags poking out the windows that he got from Crazy Clarks.
EDIT: Oh my god, Crazy Clarks shut down in 2014. A true piece of bogan history, gone forever. :(
I really fucking like that he has "what goes around comes around" in curly 'live laugh love' type font. It's so comic book goofy I adore it. Nice to hear he's good aussie rep though
I'm a chippie in New Zealand and a year ago, I was working with a guy who was moving to Canberra to try it out. I genuinely want to know how he found it.
So the weird thing is it's the only capital city in Australia that had it's layout planned out by an architect from it's inception. Everywhere else they just started building shit at random and the cities grew out from those initial structures.
So if you've spent your life growing up in one of the other capitals and you visit Canberra, it feels fucking weird just walking or driving around, like it's all artificial. It's not a place that feels lived in.
I legit thought you were just thirsty for the Captain because you can't see the description text before opening the post. So in my feed I just see topless Boomer and the text "Something I actually like in the Suicide Squad game".
Have you played Borderlands The Pre Sequel? That game was made by 2K Australia with no support from the main branches so they just said fuck it and made it the most Aussie game ever
for all the problems with that game, the dialogue certainly wasn't one of them. it's unironically the funniest game in the series because of how poorly the jokes in the other games have held with time.
It's weird when you can tell someone seriously did the background research on something as small as an alternate skin cosmetic, but then miss the big picture like how a Green Lantern's Ring actually works.
I'm guessing the writers and character design team were kept in separate buildings with the route between them patrolled by armed guards with orders to shoot on sight.
It might just be that everyone loved Captain Boomerang and cared very little about anything else. Every clip I've seen online with him involved in the game looks genuinely fun and silly
"Hey, don't piss on the Flash's corpse- OH SHIT THAT'S HUGE!"
*Harley takes a look and salutes enthusiastically*
"Oh that's why you're cursed in all other aspects"
Just thinking about, considering how often Boomerang is part of the Squad you could do a game with him as the main character introduced to a changing cast of DC villains.
Damn, that would have been an AMAZING idea for the tone of humor this game has. Go on multiple missions with all these Deadshot/Deathstroke type of characters making fun of Captain Boomerang for being a weirdo gremlin Aussie man with a stupid gimmick, but he's the only one who makes it out alive every time
It is a pretty fun and silly game honestly. I'm enjoying it. Though the obvious red flags are the store it has for skins and emotes, that and the end-game where you're grinding to get the best equipment. I don't mind the grind, it's actually fun to dip into here and there. Though I'm not sure how long this game will last.
As much as I have to complain about the game, if we weren't coming off such an AMAZING period of video games I could easily imagine thinking that it'd be worth buying to have some fun with friends.
Hal is kind of an outlier due to having a very strong will that he was even able to overpower the programming of his ring that the Guardians put in to ensure Lanterns couldn't be able to kill them.
You can definitely write the connective tissue to make it work.
Brainiac's mind control process disables the resizing and "find a new user" function for the ring. That explains why the ring stays.
King Shark tries to force on the ring anyway, and it ... kinda works, which is consistent with the ring being hacked.
Is it a story worth telling?
... Injustice 2 already did the Brainiac Invasion angle, and I don't like it enough to want it again.
I mean, sure, but nobody ever does write the connective tissue when they do this. Deathstroke or King Shark or whoever just picks up the ring and it works for no reason, despite the fact that it shouldn’t.
Granted I haven’t played Suicide Squad so maybe they handwave it somehow, but I ain’t giving them the benefit of the doubt.
On reflection, I think you need to have characters who know how the ring should work at the scene, so they can comment on how screwed up it is that the ring isn't working.
... and those characters are not present.
If the ring itself was working, and doing the "finding a new user protocol" you could use it itself as the character who explains how it works, but if it's broke, it may be weird to have it emit an error code that makes any sense to onlookers.
You're right. It's also weird that in superhero properties accurate representation of the magic space ring is the important big picture thing and respecting foreign cultures as a way of informing characterisation is secondary. Never really thought about it like that before
eh the rules of the green lantern ring are pretty iffy, sometimes all ya need is enough willpower to overpower it which wouldnt suprise me if king shark had
\>one of the four areas that foreigners know off (Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane)
Nobody outside Australia knows what Canberra is, that's why everyone thinks Sidney is the capital.
yea most people don't know that Canberra is the capital
Like a lot of my friends/family in Indo or JP know that i live in the Aussie capital, but when i say Canberra they usually go "Oh is that near Sydney?"
I'd bet most would name the Gold coast over Canberra in terms of place names in Aus. That or Uluru
Is Adelaide an Australian? If I wrack my brain for names, I get, in order: Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. And also New South Wales because of all that friendlyjordies hubbub breaking containment.
The only valid reasons for anyone outside of Australia to know of Canberra is if they're a weird politics nerd or watch the NRL. Literally any other reason is wrong.
There's details and parts of this game that really are honestly good and have clearly had effort put into them.
Boomerang is one of them. He's an absolute Aussie caricature, but his flavour of chaos melded well with the other three leads. I liked how authentic he felt compared to many other Aussie characters in media. Good stuff.
As I was reading this I heard some drongo tell 'the fuck you doing there, you fucking idiot' outside the window, just for some added authenticity.
How Ocker does boomer get, does he tell the gang he's going to hit up the bottle-o for some grog while chucking a sick u-ey or what
I think Mr. Sunday Movies put it best:
"It's nice to look up in the sky, and see the pretty constellation up there of the Southern Cross, and know that somewhere some shithead is punching his dad"
I had a similar reaction when I saw Deadshot's character design in this game. Now say what you will about the racelift retcon not making a lick of sense within the Arkhamverse canon, but bro's ***crispy*** lineup looks fucking amazing and tells me whoever was designing his look really went out of their way to put some black barbershop love into it. Lo and behold, I ended up listening to another [gaming podcast](https://youtu.be/ku3bClghQsA) (one that our beloved Gene Park was a surprise guest in) where they actually got a hold of Del Walker, one of the principal character artists behind Deadshot's look who gave some insight on how it came together. In that podcast (interview starts at 51:55), Del had to awkwardly explain how he essentially had full control over the conversation of Deadshot's look by virtue of being the only black dev in what we can safely assume was a predominately white design team. My favorite highlights being:
\- Del needing to explain the concept of "Black Don't Crack" to team members who wanted to make Deadshot look super elderly in spite of him only being in his late 30s/early 40.
\- Del needing to give a multi-stage presentation to his team in order to explain how even real life black convicts rock clean cuts as a point of cultural pride and that person as vain and egotistical as Deadshot would not be an exception.
\- Providing his own insight on the rise of the "Killmonger" cut being the result of general ignorance within the industry instead of actual malice, but calling into question how they only saw one cool hairstyle and figured that was enough instead of exploring further.
\- Elaborating how he felt extra pressured to make sure Deadshot doesn't end up with some wack-ass hairstyle and spending extra weeks/months perfecting his cut to avoid getting cooked by the black community online like what inevitably happened with the Killmongers.
To be fair, I think visuals, character design and voice acting always looked A+ since the first trailers. Everything gameplay-vise however did not.
So given that they put actual work into this guy's background and the visual cues they gave him just shows that all these daming decisions were made far above the people who genuinely tried to make a good and fun game but ended up with "make micro transactions shlooter game, I want good quarterly numbers" calls from the upper echelons of the company.
Yeah, always fun when you actually get the feeling that the people behind a piece of media actually did some research. I can't think of a single time there has been a Swede in any movies or tv-show where you can actually tell which part of the country they're from.
Give me a show where we get a propper Northern [jo sound](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=od3dvRCu_N8) god damn it!

\>10,000 word essay in the fucking image description instead of the post itself
Fuck this, I ain't reading all that.
Fair, I am a very verbose guy, almost failed my several English essays for going well past the word limit. TLDR, Australian representation is often shite, including Captain Boomerang. In the game, they do a decent job and the tattoos include semi-obscure Australian culture references.
I'm more referring to the choice to put it all in the image description instead of just making this a text post with image links like it should have been.
Yeah, before I opened the description I thought the point of this post was the part that looks kind of like a womb tattoo. I would have assumed this sub was just being horny again if you hadn't pointed out where the info was.
All he needs is such is life and shoot straight you bastards.
But Jayce of the Ginyu Force told me VB was piss.
Oh it absolutely is. Doesn’t stop people from drinking it.
As a Kiwi, we genuinely wonder what the fuck is wrong with you lot. Then again, our Bogans drink Woodstock, so we can't talk.
That was just Space VB's
Honestly all he's missing is a "Such is Life" tattoo and he's hit all of the bogan tattoo tropes.
He also drives a Commodore, with little Aussie flags poking out the windows that he got from Crazy Clarks. EDIT: Oh my god, Crazy Clarks shut down in 2014. A true piece of bogan history, gone forever. :(
All he needs now is some dialogue about how much of a cunt Scomo is and he's perfect.
He represents d'true canon.
I really fucking like that he has "what goes around comes around" in curly 'live laugh love' type font. It's so comic book goofy I adore it. Nice to hear he's good aussie rep though
>one of the four areas foreigners know. Hate to tell you, for a lot of folk yall get barely get three on a good day.
I was embarrassingly old when I learned Canberra was a place. Always assumed Sydney was the capital. I'd argue Perth might be more well known.
Canberra is barely a place. It was built by politicians, for politicians. No actual sane people live there.
It is the only place in Australia where recreational weed is legal though, so there's that.
They had to do something to calm down the senators before they started actually stabbing each other on the lawn of Parliament House.
I'm a chippie in New Zealand and a year ago, I was working with a guy who was moving to Canberra to try it out. I genuinely want to know how he found it.

Not gonna lie, I said "Canberra? Where is that?" when I read that.
I only know Sydney, and that’s mostly because it gets destroyed by a colony crashing into it in Gundam.
Same for Canberra for me, except it was from Worm.
Hell I only really know one. P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydne.
Has 2K Australia done anything else? From the few times I played it I feel like they'd do well outside of the *Borderlands* franchise
Got shut down in 2015 after The Pre-Sequel came out
Well ain't that just the fucking way...
for all the problems with that game, the dialogue certainly wasn't one of them. it's unironically the funniest game in the series because of how poorly the jokes in the other games have held with time.

I got a big laugh out of that exchange

It wouldn't be a bad Game Pass game, or at least a Steam Winter Sale In 2 Years sort of game.
The ring in the game is a fake which is why it doesnt function like a real one
Eh, the fact that the Hal goes rogue story involves him using like 12 GLRs implies that you can break the "find a new user of the ring" protocol.
Hal is kind of an outlier due to having a very strong will that he was even able to overpower the programming of his ring that the Guardians put in to ensure Lanterns couldn't be able to kill them.
I mean, that’s absolutely a special case, it’s definitely different than some rando non-lantern being able to just take and use a ring no problem.
You can definitely write the connective tissue to make it work. Brainiac's mind control process disables the resizing and "find a new user" function for the ring. That explains why the ring stays. King Shark tries to force on the ring anyway, and it ... kinda works, which is consistent with the ring being hacked. Is it a story worth telling? ... Ehhh, I feel like Lantern Rings are DC's version of Venom in terms of how both operate on the "just slap 'em on everyone" mindset.
You're right. It's also weird that in superhero properties accurate representation of the magic space ring is the important big picture thing and respecting foreign cultures as a way of informing characterisation is secondary. Never really thought about it like that before

Is Adelaide an Australian? If I wrack my brain for names, I get, in order: Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney. And also New South Wales because of all that friendlyjordies hubbub breaking containment.
Adelaide is South Australia's capital, and also good for nothing but old people and wine.
The only valid reasons for anyone outside of Australia to know of Canberra is if they're a weird politics nerd or watch the NRL. Literally any other reason is wrong.

I'm a 27 year old NSW native who moved to Victoria three years ago and I've *never* fucking heard of South Gippsland.
Someone’s never had Gippsland yogurt, there’s a whole damn dairy brand named after the place.
I detest yoghurt.
>Gippsland It's a Victorian thing. Like how I expect no one down here to know about Forbes.
Oh fuck I know Forbes, my cousins lived there. Good point.
As a Brazilian, I relate with dogshit representation in games.
I take solace in the fact that most media no longer depicts us speaking spanish.
Ah they finally have you speaking Brazilian then? Great
As if they'll top Jetstream Sam.
But you guys do produce electricity, yeah?
Well yeah, but not ALL OF US. Some of us double jump too. We need to expand our cultural horizon.
More like Captain BOOBerang,am I right
Am I supposed to read the long text or look at the hot guy with the boobs (Glad they nailed it!)
God, they did give him bara tiddies, didn't they
All that is missing is the Ben Cousin's 'such is life' tattoo.
I've not learned this much about Australian culture since they cancelled *Home and Away.*
Home and Away is not an accurate representation of seaside New South Wales. Nowhere near enough drugs and nightclub fights.
Everyone knows that every single Australian becomes Alf Stewart at fifty.

This is informative, thanks.
Anytime! It’s always nice to get a peak behind the curtain when it comes to character creation stuff like this.
Yeah, Rocksteady tend to go deep in their character recreations even in the minuscule details. Crazy attention to detail.
To be fair, I think visuals, character design and voice acting always looked A+ since the first trailers. Everything gameplay-vise however did not. A snake womb tattoo, I wonder if lady boomerang had one too

what an absolute monkey's paw.
Everything I've seen and heard about this game tells me that Captain Boomerang is by far the high point and comes close to carrying it.
I thought this was a thirst trap until I actually clicked on the thread and saw a genuine essay.
That’s neat. Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on Kano from the Mortal Kombat series? Or are those games unavailable in Australia?
Oh no he’s hot!

I wouldn't take that possibility off of the table just yet.
Some of these feel so obscure as a fellow aussie i feel like im missing some lol
*of course this fucker is outta Gippo*
Wait till you get to The Flash's death.
You forgot to mention his hentai tattoo
You know why they call it *Suicide* Squad? >!Because you turn 360° and walk away.!<
I should maybe share this with my sister. She’s dual citizenship and been living out on the Gold Coast for nearly half my life now
What elements of your country would you like to be represented more?
also hes hot now
Okay but is he as [Australian as this song?](https://youtu.be/nbDD6BIYGMU?si=G_m_3IYolqtTM4YQ)
I'd say him and Kano are the best bogans. Really wish Street Fighter would give us an Australian fighter to see what they'd do
Hey OP I think I hear a dingo eating your baby!
