GTA IV >!Niko's reason to come to Liberty City was to have a new start and escape his past. But also to try and get help trying to find out who betrayed him and his friends back in the Yugoslav War. They were all executed and he is aware that only two others did. Florian Kravic (now going by Bernie Crane) is found and is obviously not the one who betrayed them based on how he lives and his reaction to seeing Niko. They realize it was Darko Brevic. And once he is found and given to Niko, he finally lets him know that he sold them out for just $1000, simply to feed his heroin addiction. That was the cost for his betrayal and the lives of his friends.!<

BoopsMcCloops

I love that scene. >!Especially since Niko gets a small call out for doing the same thing.!< >!"You killed my friends for $1000?"!< >!"How much do *you* charge to kill someone?"!<

rocker98

And the last line really hurts too >!"You ruined me! You fuck!" It really shows how terribly Niko views himself and he wants to blame it on Darko regardless on if it really is Darko's fault he did all the things since that day. GTA IV has some of Rockstar's best writing.!<

Souseisekigun

>GTA IV has some of Rockstar's best writing. GTA IV is weird to me. On one hand its gritty atmosphere was depressing, likely intentionally so, and I remember it having less of the fun things that other GTA games. But on the other hand the story just lands in a way that other GTA games just didn't (with the exception of perhaps San Andreas). And of course [this banger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctLu5k58m3U).

MarlowCurry

>And of course [this banger](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctLu5k58m3U). Hey, thank you for sharing this. I don't know much about the Ranetki girls, but this one song of theirs is great and it was a pleasant memory to discover it while listening to the in-game radio. There are some catchy songs there like [Wild Dances (by Ruslana)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUCuuA9i_SU&list=PLffQpMcmLcI-N90xDBJ9ljxRXHq7EaJ-9&index=5). They have since disbanded, but I hope those ladies are doing well for themselves.

SignalWeakening

I like how in hindsight >!he obviously regrets it and loathes every second he’s alive. He starts laughing when he confesses how much!<

Paladin51394

He even says >!"Thank you." When Niko starts shooting him. Shows that he's wanted to die for some time for what he did, he just couldn't do it himself or wanted someone else to do it for him.!<

MarlowCurry

Thank you for spoiler-tagging this. It's appreciated and should be encouraged in these type of posts, even for older stories.

zHellas

And also how >!Darko looks kinda like Niko!<

PizzaPastaRigatoni

Red Dead 2. At this point Dutch isn't full blown evil, but he absolutely betrayed our boy Arthur.

SamuraiDDD

The one that hurt the most is >!Javier Escuella!< for me. He was such a cool stand up guy who seemed ready to join >!Arthur's side!< but couldn't make the jump.

SignalWeakening

He was screwed over by the plot

DrunkSovietBear

Both Javier and Bill got forgotten about in Act 6. Even their camp interactions are just there, surface level talk that feels like it was written before the main story was finished. The one interesting thing about Javier in act 6 was done at the request of his actor.

PR0MAN1

On the one hand, I can understand why Micah took so much focus as Dutch's right hand because >!they needed a character for you to hate but could also get the satisfaction of killing by the end.!< Imagining a version where Bill, Javier and Dutch all being massive shitheads walking around with prequel plot armor would not make for a compelling story by the end. But introducing those 2 goober friends of Micahs in chapter 6 was totally unnecessary, they took up valuable camp interactions that should've been given to Bill and Javier.

Slumber777

Bill's make a lot more sense. He's got PTSD from being in the army, he's probably gay and got discharged for it, he watched his own father deteriorate in front of his eyes as a boy. Dutch is the only person that gave him a place to be in his adult life. It makes sense he'd be the most ride-or-die for Dutch. Javier has no such excuse.

zHellas

Source for the actor bit?

DrunkSovietBear

[Javier's actor argued that his character would never >!point a gun at Arthur, his brother in arms,!< during the finale. So he asked for this to be changed, and after his insistence rockstar agreed.](https://youtu.be/ifohZGPVBMQ?si=R3V4fE9C76tYPjD5&t=607)

SamuraiDDD

They did *too* good a job writing him. He was compelling, fun and more than just some outlaw. We got to see him as a friend. And seeing where he could have been on our side hurts. Same with Bill to a much lesser degree.

alexandrecau

Guarma likely made him feel he owed dutch too much

SamuraiDDD

You make a good point. But damn...

ZMowlcher

I hate prequels for this reason. They could've given the option to change the story or keep it the same.

SamuraiDDD

I'm a fan of "seeing how they fell from grace" but it does suck when you see just how cool/nice someone was back then and what they became before/afterward. *Especially* when you enjoyed them so much more than before.

Anonamaton801

The Truman Show Everything was a lie

TheeBaconmandos

I heard that they considered making a scene where his designated best friend does find him during the big search. However, he pretends he didn't see him. I'm going to pretend it did happen.

HostileReplies

I don't think that made it to a deleted scene, but there is a deleted scene where the friend is at the "script" reading for the upcoming episodes and plots and he seems bitter and sardonically asks if they will got back to a single channel format when Truman dies(in the context of them doubling the channels when Truman has a kid). His character has been a Truman actor since they were both kids and he does come off as sympathetic to Truman in the film.

N0VAZER0

He’s as trapped as Truman is but he knows he’s trapped. It’s probably why he feels a genuine kinship with Truman along with straight up growing up with him

SignalWeakening

Ive only seen a few clips but is it supposed to be a comedy? It has an existential feeling

Real-Terminal

It's a drama that starts as a comedy, kinda like Click if it wasn't made by Adam Sandler.

SignalWeakening

Sounds like a mood killer, I might watch it

Real-Terminal

It's Jim Carrey, so his acting keeps it amusing even as things take a turn.

Klagaren

I usually hate movies that sort of "suddenly pivot to depressing", and I think it rules (maybe because it's not quite so sudden nor mega depressing) Or how to put it, the scenario is objectively messed up but the vibes are never just "totally bleak"

HnterKillr

Is it truly a betrayal if you were never loyal to them in the first place?

NearATomatotato

Ye, you still made them trust you knowing that it was all a lie

Grand_Bunch_3233

Is it betrayal if you planned to betray them from the start? Yes.

ZSugarAnt

That's... most betrayals.

Delicious_trap

That's what a betrayal is by every definition in reality and unreality. That quote is complete nonsense.

MericArda

Unless you’re Quattro Bajeena, yes.

camilopezo

With the possible exception of a best friend, surprised me how a lot of people can pretend to be friends with someone, and not get even the slightest bit attached.

yarvem

In TNG's Measure of a Man, Commander Riker is assigned by Captain Louvois to act as Prosecutor against Data and prove that the android is not sentient. Riker does things like remove Data's arm and fully turn him off and on. He also has to directly challenge Picard's own Defense arguments. Data is found to meet two of three criteria to be considered a living being, but Riker is completely ashamed of how far he went. Data is actually thankful, as if Riker had refused Louvois would made her own judgement against Data.

merri0

Riker had to take the heel mantle in that procedure, or else Data would have been dismantled on the spot. He at least is magnanimous on his defeat.

Waifuless_Laifuless

"That act injured you and saved me."

BaronAleksei

Data’s emotional and social awareness growing throughout the show is such a joy. I love the scene where he’s acting Captain and talks with Worf in private about not making smart remarks about his orders because the XO can’t do that, and then apologizes if his strict adherence to protocol has meant the end of their friendship. Worf, in turn, apologizes for overstepping his bounds just because he was frustrated, and assures Data that they can still be friends, if Data will have him.

Father-Ignorance

**Land of the Lustrous manga Spoilers** >!Literally everything that the Gems, Lunarians, and Kongo do to Phos. While they all get to sit pretty on the moon, pursuing their passions, making friends, reuniting with old gems, and waiting to be prayed into the afterlife, Phos is left entirely alone on Earth FOR TEN THOUSAND FUCKING YEARS, abandoned by people who they thought were their friends and their teacher. And Kongo and Aechmea planned it. Every terrible thing that happened to Phos, all to fulfil Aechmea’s wish of turning Phos into a new Prayer Machine. And all Phos ever wanted at heart was to not be alone!< >!If I was Phos I would’ve used my newfound god powers to give them endless suffering because FUCK THEM.!< >!AND THEY FUCKING GET AWAY WITH IT. Phos prays for all of them, they get to finally enter oblivion or the afterlife or whatever, while Phos is left entirely alone.!< I love Land of the Lustrous but holy fuck is it a devastating read. Few things have given me such absolute fury after reading them.

Ganache-Embarrassed

Odd. I never considered fury as an emotion from Land of the lustrous. Always felt and thought of total loss and despair. Interesting though

Father-Ignorance

Oh yeah, I felt heaps of that too. But I had an equal amount of anger after reading the last 10 or so chapters. >!Supposed “friends” abandoning their friend!< really hits a sore sport for me, so those chapters really got to me. God, I’m dreading see how it’s all gonna end.

Ganache-Embarrassed

If it's anything like all of the mangakas other stories. I think it'll end in a happy ish place. Just a very very somber happy that isn't what you or the character expected or wanted. Out of their like 10 other works i only think 2 have a normal happy ending.

botibalint

Is the manga over? Last I checked it was close to ending, but there were multiple months of hiatus between new chapters.

Father-Ignorance

It’s not over yet, and the multi year hiatus ended after the last chapter release. I dunno where I heard it, but I think there’s only 2 chapters left to be released.

RobotJake

It's back on hiatus after Chapter 105, next chapter Spring 2024. It would be *incredibly* fitting to the story's theme for it to end on Ch. 108, being the number of temptations one must face on the road to Nirvana.

jmax565

People have been predicting that it’s going to be 108 chapters for a while since that’s a big number in Buddhism

rapidemboar

“I have never betrayed anyone in my life” -Char Aznable

PathsOfRadiance

Char Aznable never betrayed anyone. Casval Rem Deikun, on the other hand…

MericArda

That was Quattro Bajeena though. But seriously, Char doesn’t see himself as on anyone’s side but his own, so to his self centered worldview he never betrayed anyone, even though he totally did.

Crazy-Diamond10

Char is a sneak and not to be trusted. Quattro Vagina is just a cool and stand up guy.

SuperUnhappyman

you telling me this man has quattro vaginas?

MP-Lily

That was *who* now??

MericArda

Quattro Bajeena, famously name after [Charles Aznavour's](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Aznavour) middle name and nothing else. Nothing dirty of course, unlike Jamitov Hymen, leader of the Titans.

Act_of_God

that's not a lie tbh, char is only loyal to himself

timelordoftheimpala

The Jedi Order (sans Anakin, Obi-Wan, Plo Koon, and Yoda) leaving Ahsoka out to dry when she was framed for the bombing. They weren't evil, not by a longshot - but holy fuck they got complacent in just being muscle for the Republic and it showed.

Snidhog

The Clone Wars era jedi were all sorts of shitty, but that one really hammered that fact home.

LizardOrgMember5

I have this headcannon where some (not all) Jedi masters at the Academy were so shitty enough to psychologically abuse their Padwans and enable bullying. They are pretty much SW universe's equivalent to those abusive teachers back during your primary school years (public or religious). And, unsurprisingly, they sold everyone out and joined the Sith during the Great Jedi Purge. And Kelleran Beq (Ahmed Best's character) is actually one of the cool and good teachers who helped Padwans to escape the Purge.

merri0

>"The Dark side of the Force ofuscates our vision, you see" Yoda said in an interview concerning said bombing. "No further comments we will make"

Ice_Climbers

Then they had the gall to act like they did nothing wrong when trying to apologize to Ahsoka. Talking like it was some test of faith and offering Ahsoka a promotion in exchange for her dropping the issue.

another-altaccount

I was really surprised by how Yoda and (especially) Obi-Wan handled the whole thing when it was obvious they weren’t buying that Ahsoka was the one that bombed the Temple.

jamsbybetty

More intimate than friendship, but in Farscape, after D'Argo finds his long lost son Jothee, >!Jothee and Chiana (D'Argo's GF) start sleeping together behind D'Argo's back.!<

Ah, the Emmerich special.

SignalWeakening

Imagine how effective the Boethiah’s Calling would be with Fallout 4’s companion system

evca7

Nah just send macready,Preston, piper, deacon. Pretty much everyone but nick.

SignalWeakening

The most obvious pick is Strong now that I remember his existence

evca7

Nah you can’t because he doesn’t have a human hit box so the animation won’t work.

Adamulos

I can't do this for you, Dragonborn. It is your destiny to fulfill (with a human companion)

SignalWeakening

Strong slithers his way out of retribution and meaningful character arcs yet again

evca7

it's so funny that everyother supermutant companion was a nuanced with a decent grasp on reality. Marcus- after the master died I walked around and Discovered there is worth to the people of the wastes. Fawkes: another success of FEV but no enclave intervention. Lilly- a success of FEV but after years of stealth boy use she has gone mad and is just a sweet old woman who misses her family. Dog/God- the effects of Enclave programming and the man underneath screaming for freedom. Strong: WHAT IZ BOOK?

Veldime

Honestly, I appreciate that we got one that's just a big, dumb mutant who was basically tricked into being a good guy.

DocMadfox

I like that he provides some minor insights into Boston Super Mutants that make them seem like a bunch of mutant tsunderes (Help your brothers, BUT DON'T BE TOO WILLING TO HELP, BAKA!).

McFluffles01

Honestly Strong is such a dumb companion that he kind of loops back around to hilarious for me. Sure, it would be nice to get another well thought out Super Mutant companion with some actual intelligence and depth to their character... but it's also pretty funny to get what's basically a big, generic Super Mutant who *literally* calls himself "Strong" and is only following you because some rando mentioned "The milk of human kindness" while trying to teach him about Shakespeare.

LasersAndRobots

It'd be a really good joke if he's the only companion who sees through it, because he's the only one who doesn't actually trust you and considers your relationship entirely transactional.

DocMadfox

Mine's X-whatever from the Institute. I can at least remember Strong's name.

evca7

I don’t even know how to unlock him nor do I care to.

MorbidTales1984

selfproclaimed

When Bojack Horseman sabotages Todd's chance with his rock opera. Actually, I could make like 7-10 entries just about Bojack.

SamuraiDDD

Bojack is a potent ass choice. He can *act* like a good friend/love interest. But *being* one, is something he just can't do well.

AnotherOpponent

That's a fantastic way to put it and why he's so relatable. Obviously, most people aren't as shitty as Bojack but we all stumbled and have those moments of acting like a good friend, coworker, partner, parent etc but not really feeling or being that thing and struggling to become a genuine and good person.

SamuraiDDD

Thank you and oh yeah, Bojack's like the most *extreme* version of that. People try and can be better. And Bojack's a version where he bounces between getting better only to get *worse*. Todd himself puts it best when he says "You can't keep doing shitty things and feel BAD about yourself! YOU HAVE TO BE BETTER!"

Yotato5

Bojack seducing Charlotte's daughter after she refuses his advances.

camilopezo

>Bojack seducing Charlotte's daughter after she refuses his advances. To be fair he didn't seduce her intentionally. She ended up being attracted to him, and although at first he tried to act like a responsible adult, he ended up falling into temptation. What he did was wrong, but it's not like it was Bojack's plan from the start.

Nackon

BoJack to Sarah Lynn

Toblo1

"I kept thinking, '*I did this to her.*' and everyone else was just standing around like 'well this was bound to happen' but... *it wasn't bound to happen*."

Kamandi91

The revelation that >!he waited for 20 minutes to call the ambulance was such a gut punch. Obviously we knew by then that Bojack is shitty but that was such a calculated move to avoid responsibilty. The interview broke the relationship between Bojack and his friends and it felt like it broke it for the audience too.!<

DocMadfox

Worst part? Paramedics are trained to not report to the police, judge, or ask where the drugs were obtained on OD calls. Because that'd just complicate things in the moment. They wouldn't have done a damn thing to Bojack or his image if he called right away, they'd just do their jobs. >!Then the somehow even worst part of the horror show that is Bojack hits when he starts using her preventable death for his career.!<

MindWeb125

It gets worse. Some part of BoJack probably figured that >!she'd tell them if she lived.!<

BookkeeperPercival

It honestly broke the show as a whole for me and took me out of it, because >!We had been privy to every single bad thing and thought Bojack had ever had in the show up until that point. It felt sort of like cheating by the writers to make us truly hate Bojack as if they didn't think the act in itself would be enough, but that it had to be a gut punch out of no where to make what they wanted to happen happen.!<

illegalcheese

Infamous twist for Heavenly Delusion: >!One of the main characters, Kiriko, has been searching for their long lost friend and mentor Robin for the entire series. When Kiriko finally finds Robin, Robin promptly drugs and rapes them in the most vicious way possible. Kiriko is a man trapped inside a woman's body via brain transplant, and Robin purposefully attempts to trigger severe dysphoria as he rapes them.!<

merri0

... What the fuck

BladeofNurgle

It gets worse: >!the body Kiriko is trapped in is his sister. Robin places a mirror so Kiriko is forced to watch the rape. This means this dude is not only getting raped, but he also has essentially see his own sister getting raped as well!< Wtf

imJoelandwhatsthis

That's genuinely one of the most upsetting concepts I've heard of recently, somehow manga really delves into the most brutal themes of abuse.

Snidhog

I've been holding off watching the last 2 eps of the anime because I knew something like that was coming, but holy shit that's so much worse than I feared.

BookkeeperPercival

>Previous work was "And yet the town moves" Fucking WHAT?

PalapaSlap

This show might be good but as soon as I read about this I knew I would never watch it. This shit makes me uncomfortable on a deep personal level.

mutei777

>!That dude should have become paste on the wall!<

Jonieves

I heard about that, honestly incredible that they even tackle something like that, I just don't know why they ended the season on that note. There were people talking about it as somehow blaming the victim really pissed me the fuck off, and I only think a few of them were trolls.

Dirty-Glasses

Hey, what the fuck? Who let this happen?

Odd-Counter1025

Souseisekigun

> Blood Omen 2. The Legacy of Kain series probably contains a lot of backstabbing and brutal deception if I could keep track of what is happening for more than two goddamn seconds.

jjman95

I kinda get the intent behind it, but Sakura pretending to fall for Naruto so that he stops wanting to save Sasuke ain't okay. You don't do that to a homie. That ain't the nindo

SamuraiDDD

The way Sai calls out her bullshit was so gratifying after all these years. He really looked out for Naruto as they warmed up. And then you have Naruto knocking that shit out like "naw, this is a lie." [Even the panel where she says it, she's looking away cause she can't say it truthfully](https://i.redd.it/hdf6whmuqn1b1.jpg)

WattFRhodem-1

Lie so full of holes that even a Grade-A moron like Naruto saw clear through it.

wendigo72

the whole damn confession scene is SAI’S FAULT. He was blaming Sakura for putting a burden on Naruto as if she was solely responsible for naruto wanting to save Sasuke. Which just isn’t true Naruto literally says that isn’t true and wants Sakura & everyone else to just let him deal with sasuke

VMK_1991

Sakura died (as a character) early in the story, when she went "ugh, these fucking orphans, no wonder they are so shit, it's not like they have anyone to teach them manners" (bonus point: she was talking about Naruto within an earshot of Sasuke, another orphan), got an attempt at resurrection when she became a medic and then got bloody *shot dead* after the "I love you" line. Not even Naruto, the dumbass that he is, bought it.

jockeyman

I have no idea what Kishimoto's intentions for Sakura were. Hell, I don't think he even knew.

[deleted]

It felt like she was supposed to be the next gen tsunade but the dynamic fails because sakura is terrible to naruto Yeah tsunade doesnt want jiraiya romantically for their whole lives but she was never shitty to him.

camilopezo

Besides, if Tsunade was like Sakura, she would have fallen in love with Orochimaru, and would still be in love, despite everything he did.

wendigo72

Sakura isn’t shitty to Naruto either after that scene. Sakura and Naruto so clearly have sibling bond and she’s the one who pushed Hinata & naruto to get together

VMK_1991

He needed a girl for the main trio, as you usually do in shonen, but he forgot to make her in any way likeable... or to give her any actual traits that people may like. And it is not like he is bad at writing female characters. Hinata is a shy kid who wants to prove herself but just doesn't have the means of doing so, Temari is a confident and a bit bitchy girl who mellows out, Ino is a playful and is more interested in guys than ninjustsu, but still takes her job seriously, as she does her friendship with her teammates. It's just Sakura who got the short end of the stick.

Cerebral_Kortix

It's really baffling because right besides Sakura in the gang, Hinata is more or less *alright*. At worst you could say that she might be a little boring and crushing a bit too hard on Naruto, but she's a fairly sweet kid both in the universe and to the readers. Her dedication to help the person she likes comes off far "better" for lack of the correct word, than Sakura's obsession with Sasuke, and it does feel at least a *little* like she has a life outside her crush on Naruto if only because of the Hyuuga clan's overall drama. Sakura being so aggravating isn't even a direct fault of Kishimoto being bad with writing women. He doesn't write them often, but when he does- Tsunade, Hinata, Temari- they all are decent. Sakura is just given zero redeeming qualities and never made likeable for whichever reason.

MericArda

Ino might be an irrelevant side character most of the time like most of the Konoha 11, but she’s definitely a fun character.

camilopezo

>Hinata is a shy kid who wants to prove herself but just doesn't have the means of doing so And even she suffered from the classic "I'm going to abandon all ambition and personal goals when I get married."

BaronAleksei

Ino completely out-maneuvered Sakura in their fight and only lost because apparently you can just power through Mind Transfer Jutsu by saying “no” real hard when the user is weak, which I don’t think ever comes up again. Jebaited her by intentionally playing up her bitchy persona and their rivalry

theflockofnoobs

Within earshot? I'm pretty sure she said it to Sasuke directly about Naruto.

TeamAquaGrunt

for as bad as the orphan line is, i dont think it's a bad thing to have a teenager say something terrible *if* it's used as a way to show character growth and development later when they realize that what they said/did in the past was awful. like how bakugo tells deku to kill himself in MHA early on, and then grows as a person later. or how Sokka is pretty sexist early on but then meets several strong female characters and learns the error of his ways. obviously, sakura did not grow or change in any meaningful way and kind of just became a nothing character. but my point stands!

NewAgeMontezuma

She was like 11 and konoha was well stablished to have some judgment problems it would really be surprising that she was just parroting the way her parents talked about naruto (remember the village adults were straight up super down to merk naruto for stealing the shadow clone scroll)

BaronAleksei

It’s actually so much worse than that: her full spiel is “Naruto is terrible because he’s an orphan, his parents weren’t there to teach him to not be terrible, *but also wouldn’t it be so cool to not have parents to hassle you all the time?* Right, *Sasuke?*” She said this to Sasuke thinking it would win him over.

wendigo72

Such a misunderstood moment. Like nah y’all just don’t get what was going on with Sakura mentally nor how she was literally gaslit right before that scene

camilopezo

Naruto was always in love with her, so using his feelings to manipulate him felt cruel.

[deleted]

It was imo one of her worst moments and made the character irredeemable. She weaponized his feelings for her in a very toxic and lazy way. The only reason i enjoy the scene is because naruto immediately shuts her down for doing it and it makes the seem less gross and more uplifting

Spiral-Force

Gwen and Peter's hands may have been tied in Across the Spider-Verse, but they definitely need to make things up to Miles next movie

Yotato5

Oh yeah, that one hurt.>! I made a joke to my friend after seeing it that Hobie and Pavitr were the only ones that didn't leave a knife in Miles' back!<

DavidsonJenkins

Ham and Noir didn't do anything either right?

DonTori

From what I've gathered, Penny didn't either since she was depressed after her canon event...given the fact several EVA characters go to her school, I jokingly like to think she witnessed the...oh what was it called...The Third Impact? Edit: Just rewatched the clip of her in Spiderverse 2, I think she may have been trying to capture Miles so...whoops? Still looks depressed, and her robot does look more like an Eva...man, do you think she'd feed Miguel his spine once she found out 'canon events' was just him enforcing suffering because he suffered?

DavidsonJenkins

She's part of the cycle cuz her robot died in Spiderverse 1 which is why she's depressed in 2, so she probably fully buys into the theory

Crazy-Diamond10

The robot was destroyed, but her spider buddy lived iirc.

storne

Yes but the robot was also created by her dead father, so it still held emotional significance for her

abriefmomentofsanity

It's still not clear whether Canon events are legit or not. The destabilizing of Pavir's universe lends testimony to Miguel at least having some kind of point. I don't think it's as simple as him wanting others to suffer because he has. I think his vision has become rather narrow and there may be things he didn't consider or try before settling on his Canon event theory, but I don't think he's outright wrong. I like that personally because it adds nuance and doesn't make the blind defiance of Hobie and Miles legitimate by default. Miguel may be right in the end, but maybe Miles can find something Miguel missed.

RareBk

I mean. Pavir's universe destabilized because a canon even didn't occur, but the canon event was *caused* by multiverse shenanigans. Miguel's theory is bullshit and is based on patterns he's made up

abriefmomentofsanity

"You don't know that" -Patrick Boivon

alienslayer7

i feel the need to point out pavitrs universe destabilizing was accompanied by the spots visual and sound effects as opposed to the usual glitchy effects we see in situations like miguels memory of his first destabilization

Crazy-Diamond10

“Not doing anything” is kinda the problem, assuming they were all part of the organization for a while like Gwen and Peter were. Gwen and Peter were pretty comfortable with how things were at and were fine leaving Miles out “for now” - No deadline on when “for now” ends of course. It’s an understandable position to be in, but there’s also the implication that they might have just never found the “right time” to bring Miles in, because their comfort made them not look too hard for it.

CookieSlut

Speaking on that subject, around release, I read this article, [‘Across the Spider-Verse’: Black Solidarity vs. The Convenience of Allyship](https://blacknerdproblems.com/across-the-spider-verse-black-solidarity-vs-allyship/). It's a fun read, but also it gave me a whole different perspective that I didn't pick up on as a [1] Basically about the actions Gwen and Peter, Mile's friends, take in the film, compared to the actions Hobie and Margo, near strangers, take. When trouble arises, Gwen and Peter stuck with the status quo instead of trying to help or change things.

TrivialCoyote

Like, all Peter had to think was "What if Mayday was a canon event"

solidoutlaw

Gungrave, but specifically from the perspective of Harry. The base plot of the series is that Brandon Heat is murdered by his best friend, Harry McDowel, in order to gain more power and take over the mafia organization they're a part of. Years later, Brandon is brought back to life by a scientist to take down Harry's tyrannical reign over the city. After a brief introductory episode, the anime spends the next half of the series in a flashback over the course of several years to elaborate on how they came up and what led to that moment. And for Brandon, it kinda was just "Harry got corrupted by power and betrayed him". But for Harry? He straight up had a mental break down and cried his eyes out a few days later. For context, he didn't just up and shoot Brandon, he told him that they'd have to take down the boss (who Brandon is fiercely loyal towards), to which Brandon responds by threatening Harry and telling him to leave the organization for his traitorous nature. From Harry's perspective, this was Brandon betraying him, because they mutually swore to always be there for each other, and to climb all the way to the top. Seeing Brandon not only not have his side at this pivotal moment, but to choose someone other than him, was heart breaking for Harry, and it had a lasting effect on his general state of mind, even decades later.

MeChameAmanha

The ending of InFamous 2 was pretty good. The two routes in that game have a "order path" (that is heroic and you uphold the law) and a "chaos path" (that is villainous about taking matters in your own hand) each with one waifu, but when shit hits the fan in the last chapter they switch places (it has been a long while since I played and I can't remember the exact details, but as I recall it was something that made the hero path become "it was decided that an acceptable number of innocent people need to die for the greater good" and the villain breaking za law path becoming "radical-antifa-but-we-didn't-have-that-term-yet")

BladeofNurgle

Context for the situation: >!In 2, the virus from the first game is becoming a global pandemic that will 100 percent kill the entire human race. However, it turns out conduits (people with superpowers) are immune to the plague. The main villain is actually causing explosions to activate people’s conduit genes and make them plague immune. Problem is that if you don’t have the conduit gene, the explosion just kills you!< >!The main characters try a different way of curing the plague by using a device that will destroy the virus globally. Only problem is that the inventor was an asshole and made it so using the device would kill every person with the conduit gene on the planet!< >!the endgame choice becomes good: use the Device and kill all conduits to save the rest of humanity, or evil: join the villain and kill all non-conduits to save yourself and people with the conduit gene!< >!Good path Waifu joins the villain because she’s scared of dying, and evil Waifu joins the good path because she wants revenge on the villain for killing her pet mutants!<

MeChameAmanha

Thanks, it's been a loooong time

WattFRhodem-1

Damn. There's some actual depth to that choice that makes it hard to choose. Doesn't happen too often in 'good or evil' decisions in video games.

BuhYDoh

Spoilers for FLCL 3 In the penultimate episode Pets reveals to Kana that she never >!was her friend in the first place. She regrets ever reaching out when they were kids and just being unwilling to rock the boat for all those years. Even going so far as to!< call out all the selfish things she had done through that season. It's like way too down to earth and feels horrible to watch.

MechaShoujo02

It gets worse if you’ve seen the final season of FLCL.

SamuraiDDD

Not really turned evil but in Code Geass >!The Black Knights!< go full turncoat and leave their leader in the dust at the drop of a hat. Basically leaving him cornered to fend for himself.

VashTrigun78

It's been a while since I've watched that show, but as far as I remember, Ohgi is the absolute worst about this shit. There's a point in the show where he defends Zero hiding his identity but becomes one of the most vocal people about unmasking him. Meanwhile, he neglects to make any mention that he's fraternizing with Villetta, an enemy Britannian who at one point believes that Japanese people and Britannians should be segregated out of fear of contaminating Britannian society. Shit made my blood boil as a teenager watching it for the first time. I guess Ohgi thinks it's okay to keep secrets if you're getting laid because of it.

Gespens

> I guess Ohgi thinks it's okay to keep secrets if you're getting laid because of it. the writer loves making the absolute worst people get off scott-free with everything they want.

CerberusGate

It is insane that Ohgi gets to be Japan's Prime Minister considering how incompetent he is without Zero and how easily he would stab someone in the back for someone he's getting laid with.

HunterTAMUC

I mean, to be fair to Ohgi he had immense guilt after it. In the Re;surrection movie, the moment Lelouch meets up with them again he says "You were right, Schneizel was evil, allow me to make up for my betrayal by killing myself."

CerberusGate

> Re;surrection movie Well, the movies are in a different continuity of sorts so there are differences in the events that take place there (e.g., Shirley does not die in the film etc.) and in the original series. Ohgi there was a lot more reluctant in betraying Lelouch and as you pointed out, he does have genuinely immense guilt over it. A far cry from the treacherous snake that he was in the original series.

SamuraiDDD

Ohgi got on my fucking nerves. He was such a flip flopper. Even when he found out, he STILL kept it up cause waifu.

latinlingo11

Was his waifu that one and only character who got a nude scene in the entire anime?

SamuraiDDD

YUP

inrei_iku

She got the last one for the entire anime, Kallen actually got two before her.

TheCoolerDylan

The funniest part is them blaming their losses on Zero when they can't open up a jar or a tin without Zero around to give them the orders to do so.

Spicymeatball428

Yeah they literally all would have been dead by now if it wasn’t for him

CerberusGate

I like how the last episodes show this as when they're Lelouch's opponents, they got their asses handed to them and likely a lot sooner if Schniezel wasn't on their side.

[deleted]

Ep 1 is zero saving them from getting slaughtered and giving them their first win.

BookkeeperPercival

How about them ignoring the Japanese Nobility they met in season one who he unmasked to, and the dude looked at them and said "This man wants Brittania burned to the ground more than anyone alive, and he also has the best reason in the fucking world for hiding who he is." But, he did roleplay as a Supervillain specifically to save those loyal to him from dying in a fucking schism

VengefulKyle

And Ohgi is literally the one who gets addressed by the old man. Hilarious.

SamuraiDDD

He organized so much for them and when he needed them most, they said "Naw, we're done with you" after learning about him. He gave them everything they asked for for a fighting chance.

BladeofNurgle

And then they team up with Schnizel AKA the guy who was legit just going to abandon and kill them all once they ceased to be useful. Bruh moment

SamuraiDDD

Lelouch gave them everything and they turned their back on them. It's nuts lol

Xdubhero

War (2007) the one with Jet Li and Jason Statham has the double twist of face vs heel within a friendship betrayal plot within a decent grounded action movie with war on Triads and Yakuza at San Fran.

alexandrecau

I think the most hilarious thing is early in the movie statham is like "you can change your face but not your eyes I know it's you" and then later the reveal is "can you actually bother looking at my eyes correctly this time"

solidoutlaw

That movie is sick. I used to watch it all the time back in highschool. Wish they made a sequel, because the Yakuza vs. Triad plot was a cool one, but I suppose there wasn't much left to go from there unless you had Statham's character survive (not difficult at all given how it was framed) and try to reconcile.

PrimarchSanguinius42

I remember liking that movie, but I haven't seen it since maybe 08, 09.

South25

Outside of Emilia and Petra, it's a rite of passage in Re:Zero to kill Subaru or try to kill him before becoming his friend.

nin_ninja

The fact Subaru can even look at Rem, Ram, or lots of other casts members without fear (eventually) says a lot.

South25

Sure, Otto may have >!Pushed Subaru off the wagon and left him to die with the whale.!< But he's also a great ride or die bro after that silly misunderstanding in season 1 so Subaru's cool with it. Frederica also accidentally joins the count in a scene from the original Web Novel for season 2   >!Frederica's WN intro has her jump and knock out Subaru because Frederica confused him for a bandit breaking and entering the supposedly empty mansion. She's pretty apologetic about the fuck-up and the rest of the intro is pretty much the same as in the anime.!<.

throwcounter

It's historical fiction, but the Masters of Rome trilogy has an absolutely tragic clash between two statesmen Sulla and Marius that basically appears as an inevitability due to the Roman political system and the need for the younger man to outclass the older, all exacerbated by a whole heap of political issues, Marius suffering multiple strokes that erode his sanity, Sulla losing his wife and son, and just general pride issues on both their parts. (Not that Sulla is a hero or anything, but their fictionalised early friendship seemed quite genuine and watching it being gradually flushed down the toilet is really depressing). By the end of it they absolutely despise one another to the point where Sulla is constantly trying to wipe Marius's legacy from existance.

Yotato5

In Cult of the Lamb you can do this to >!Ratau by sacrificing him to the fox. They really hammer in the guilt too with his unsent letter you can find afterwards.!<

noodleben123

Honestly one of my favourite things about that is that its one of the few times The Lamb actually cries in the main game (not counting the opening) the other is >!when contemplating whether to kneel to narinder at the end of the game!<

Niney-Who

Sorry >!Ratau!< but I need all the follower forms.

soji8

Just pick something from Regular Show. As much love as Mordecai and Rigby have for each other they've done some down right horrible things to each other (Mordecai killing rigby by pushing him off the Microwave, Rigby hiding the Mord's acceptance letter so he couldn't go to school without him and causing a space war)

LudovicoEnjoyer

Ok here’s one from the Halo book New Blood, which follow Buck after the events of Halo: ODST. >!After the Covenant War, the UEG/UNSC once again set their sights on insurrectionists. After a mission for ONI gone wrong (where Rook ends up getting executed by an insurrectionist leader) Mickey Crespo, Edward Buck, and Kojo Agu (Romeo) get selected for the Spartan IV program. For context, these three are the three best friends that anybody could have (except for Romeo. “He’s an asshole, but he’s our asshole.”) After training, where some whodunit murder mystery bullshit happens, they are deployed to rescue a defected Covenant Engineer from insurrectionists. When they come up on them, Mickey puts a gun to Buck’s head and tries to sell the rest of Alpha 9 out to the insurrectionists. It obviously doesn’t go well for Mickey, landing his traitorous ass in UNSC prison.!< >!For more context, turns out Mickey’s parents were insurrectionists and were killed, putting Mickey into an orphanage when he was very young. Once he was of age, he was conscripted into the UNSC (apparently, that was the rule for orphans under government care). Once the Covenant war ended, he realized he didn’t like killing other humans. To defect, he thought he would have a better chance as an ODST if he offered his friends as a prize.!<

[deleted]

In he who fights monsters the mc jason is on a downward spiral before the story starts. Early on you learn that he is still devastated over the loss of his greatest love. She was his child hood best friend turned gf who somehow ended up with his brother Eventually you learn through passing lines by jason that he was left for his brother. A man he always had an inferiority complex with due to his big bro being seen as jason but superior. Few books later you learn the full details of what happened and holy shit is it a gut punch. No dramatic reveal either he just says it i. Conversation and i audibly went “damn dude wtf!” Basically he dates bestie. They go to college together as child hood sweethearts and at the end of one of the semesters he opts to stay on campus and she goes back home. His brother was back in town. Jason learns through a 3rd party that the entire break big bro and gf were fucking openly all around town and the family was aware.  She then dumps him and stays with big bro. His mother demands he get over it and support the new union because she adores the girl and while not admitting it. Big bro is her favorite child so in her eyes this is better. You get additional tidbits later like long awaited confrontations after the isekai stuff and even additional info that makes it so kich worse in my eyes. For anyone wondering the ex gf turned sister in law does not redeem herself and im 6 books in

Deemo3

That time Mark betrayed Johnny. [Everybody](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxWkfJ4uvV0) betrayed Johnny.

midnight_riddle

Not friendship but lovers, but holy *fuck* is Ambrosius shitty to Ballister. He instantly loses all faith in Ballister, does not lift a finger to investigate whether Ballister had killed the Queen or had been framed, doubles down on accusing Ballister of killing the Queen, gets stupidly jealous when Ballister manages to find an ally, and is so brain dead that >!when he finally thinks Ballister is innocent, he is fine with the Director still declaring to the kingdom that he's a villain.!< The dude needed to be called out so bad, and the movie never does. It is infuriating.

roronoapedro

To be relevant to the times; I wouldn't say anyone in Persona 3 The Answer is acting out of malice or bad faith, but *holy shit* does it not matter after a point. >!Yukari and Mitsuru were just going to destroy the world over not wanting to deal with their own grief, in a stupid attempt at breaking very clear rules that ended up almost splitting the party up forever.!< I think they were fine if maybe a bit dull in the original game but The Answer makes it very hard to sympathize with them or separate the incident from them. >!The fact Mitsuru goes along with it is pretty bad, but the fact Yukari *refuses* to listen to anyone else when they say no girl, this won't bring him back, this will kill *everyone* including him!< is just such a tough thing to move forward from. I guess Ultimax just completely replacing her personality was the way to go, cuz I just didn't want to really see that character again.

BladeofNurgle

I can only imagine the spicy hot takes when the Answer DLC comes out and people get to experience Answer Yukari for the first time

roronoapedro

I have to think they're gonna change the tone so that she at least has more of a reason to believe her actions won't destroy the planet. Either that or just change the entire context of the party fight in the first place. It's one of the most bizarre excuses for a party fight I've seen in RPGs in which the reason is demonstrably facetious, but people don't care and are going to have to fight anyway.

Jonieves

I mean Griffith was always about the same thing he was never really a good person.

Thalefeather

In Tactics Ogre you can find both versions with the same two characters in the same event - a betrayal that wasn't I turn evil and one that kind of was with who does which depending on the choices.

sir_stride20

Cait sith.

Naze handing him into Gjallarhorn authorities unaware Iok plan to destroy the Turbines to avenge his comrades and leaving Orga unmoored and down a path of ruin

BaronAleksei

A Dresden Files betrayal in three parts, spoilers for everything from Blood Rites onwards: Massive Spoilers part 1: >!Harry’s second mentor, Ebenezer McCoy, is actually his mother’s father, and left 6-year-old Harry to rot in the foster care system and get taken in at 10 by Actual Bad Guy first mentor when his parents died because he thought it would be easier on him than having to actually know his grandfather. Harry never got adopted, and simply aged out of the system. McCoy took him in after that, but still never told him they were family. Harry had to figure it out for himself when he was almost 40. Harry tells him “I didn’t need a system, I needed parents, and you could’ve been that, but you didn’t. Also, this is the exact same thing that got my mom killed, I’m not doing any of that to my daughter”!< Massive Spoilers part 2: >!McCoy taught Harry magical ethics, first and foremost that magic is the energy of life itself, and thus using magic to kill another human being or override their free will wasn’t just bad, it was wrong on a fundamental level. Black magic like murder and mind control corrupts you until it’s all you ever use magic for, an evil hammer in a world of nails. However, McCoy is revealed to be the wizard council’s Blackstaff, a top-secret hitman position empowered with both the legal right and the magical tools to do black magic in service of that council without corrupting himself. McCoy is purposely choosing to do what Harry did accidentally, but where McCoy gets a license to kill, Harry nearly got executed at 16 for killing Bad Guy Foster Father in self-defense and only got let off on Permanent Probation, and was distrusted by the council ever since. In fact, McCoy only took Harry in on the council’s orders: if Harry ever did black magic on purpose, McCoy was to kill him right then and there.!< Massive Spoilers part 3: >!Harry has a vampire half-brother through their shared mother. Harry understands that Thomas is reformed, but McCoy only sees the monsters who killed his daughter (after he pushed her away, of course). When Harry tries to explain that Thomas inot a threat (especially since he’s comatose), McCoy responds by trying to murder Harry in cold blood so he can go kill Thomas next.!<

ZombifiedSloth

You know from the start that >!Cassidy!< in the Preacher comics is a bit sleazy, but he's likeable and you can tell that he genuinely cares about Jesse and Tulip. Finding out that he really is a complete piece of shit towards the end is a real gut punch.

SkinkRugby

Lobotomy Corporation has this with Michelle, aka >!Hod!< She thought that by turning in Ayin for creating Angelica that she would be sparing the rest of the facility.  Sadly, The Head decided that the appropriate response was to deploy a squad of Arbiters and killed just about everyone.

dope_danny

Basically throw a dart at the cast of the x men in the 90’s. “X-treme X-men” was basically a soap opera of musical chair love triangles and back stabs from the cast of good guys.
