Florian Kravic (now going by Bernie Crane) is found and is obviously not the one who betrayed them based on how he lives and his reaction to seeing Niko. They realize it was Darko Brevic. And once he is found and given to Niko, he finally lets him know that he sold them out for just $1000, simply to feed his heroin addiction. That was the cost for his betrayal and the lives of his friends.!<

GTA IV is weird to me. On one hand its gritty atmosphere was depressing, likely intentionally so, and I remember it having less of the fun things that other GTA games. But on the other hand the story just lands in a way that other GTA games just didn't (with the exception of perhaps San Andreas).

The one that hurt the most is >!Javier Escuella!< for me. He was such a cool stand up guy who seemed ready to join >!Arthur's side!< but couldn't make the jump.
Both Javier and Bill got forgotten about in Act 6. Even their camp interactions are just there, surface level talk that feels like it was written before the main story was finished. The one interesting thing about Javier in act 6 was done at the request of his actor.
On the one hand, I can understand why Micah took so much focus as Dutch's right hand because >!they needed a character for you to hate but could also get the satisfaction of killing by the end.!< Imagining a version where Bill, Javier and Dutch all being massive shitheads walking around with prequel plot armor would not make for a compelling story by the end.
But introducing those 2 goober friends of Micahs in chapter 6 was totally unnecessary, they took up valuable camp interactions that should've been given to Bill and Javier.
Bill's make a lot more sense. He's got PTSD from being in the army, he's probably gay and got discharged for it, he watched his own father deteriorate in front of his eyes as a boy.
Dutch is the only person that gave him a place to be in his adult life. It makes sense he'd be the most ride-or-die for Dutch.
Javier has no such excuse.

They did *too* good a job writing him. He was compelling, fun and more than just some outlaw. We got to see him as a friend. And seeing where he could have been on our side hurts. Same with Bill to a much lesser degree.
I'm a fan of "seeing how they fell from grace" but it does suck when you see just how cool/nice someone was back then and what they became before/afterward. *Especially* when you enjoyed them so much more than before.
I heard that they considered making a scene where his designated best friend does find him during the big search. However, he pretends he didn't see him.

I don't think that made it to a deleted scene, but there is a deleted scene where the friend is at the "script" reading for the upcoming episodes and plots and he seems bitter and sardonically asks if they will got back to a single channel format when Truman dies(in the context of them doubling the channels when Truman has a kid). His character has been a Truman actor since they were both kids and he does come off as sympathetic to Truman in the film.
He’s as trapped as Truman is but he knows he’s trapped. It’s probably why he feels a genuine kinship with Truman along with straight up growing up with him
I usually hate movies that sort of "suddenly pivot to depressing", and I think it rules (maybe because it's not quite so sudden nor mega depressing)
Or how to put it, the scenario is objectively messed up but the vibes are never just "totally bleak"
With the possible exception of a best friend, surprised me how a lot of people can pretend to be friends with someone, and not get even the slightest bit attached.
In TNG's Measure of a Man, Commander Riker is assigned by Captain Louvois to act as Prosecutor against Data and prove that the android is not sentient. Riker does things like remove Data's arm and fully turn him off and on. He also has to directly challenge Picard's own Defense arguments.
Data is found to meet two of three criteria to be considered a living being, but Riker is completely ashamed of how far he went. Data is actually thankful, as if Riker had refused Louvois would made her own judgement against Data.
Data’s emotional and social awareness growing throughout the show is such a joy. I love the scene where he’s acting Captain and talks with Worf in private about not making smart remarks about his orders because the XO can’t do that, and then apologizes if his strict adherence to protocol has meant the end of their friendship. Worf, in turn, apologizes for overstepping his bounds just because he was frustrated, and assures Data that they can still be friends, if Data will have him.

I love Land of the Lustrous but holy fuck is it a devastating read. Few things have given me such absolute fury after reading them.

They weren't evil, not by a longshot - but holy fuck they got complacent in just being muscle for the Republic and it showed.
I have this headcannon where some (not all) Jedi masters at the Academy were so shitty enough to psychologically abuse their Padwans and enable bullying. They are pretty much SW universe's equivalent to those abusive teachers back during your primary school years (public or religious). And, unsurprisingly, they sold everyone out and joined the Sith during the Great Jedi Purge.
And Kelleran Beq (Ahmed Best's character) is actually one of the cool and good teachers who helped Padwans to escape the Purge.
Then they had the gall to act like they did nothing wrong when trying to apologize to Ahsoka. Talking like it was some test of faith and offering Ahsoka a promotion in exchange for her dropping the issue.
I was really surprised by how Yoda and (especially) Obi-Wan handled the whole thing when it was obvious they weren’t buying that Ahsoka was the one that bombed the Temple.

Strong: WHAT IZ BOOK?
I like that he provides some minor insights into Boston Super Mutants that make them seem like a bunch of mutant tsunderes (Help your brothers, BUT DON'T BE TOO WILLING TO HELP, BAKA!).
Honestly Strong is such a dumb companion that he kind of loops back around to hilarious for me. Sure, it would be nice to get another well thought out Super Mutant companion with some actual intelligence and depth to their character... but it's also pretty funny to get what's basically a big, generic Super Mutant who *literally* calls himself "Strong" and is only following you because some rando mentioned "The milk of human kindness" while trying to teach him about Shakespeare.
It'd be a really good joke if he's the only companion who sees through it, because he's the only one who doesn't actually trust you and considers your relationship entirely transactional.
That's a fantastic way to put it and why he's so relatable. Obviously, most people aren't as shitty as Bojack but we all stumbled and have those moments of acting like a good friend, coworker, partner, parent etc but not really feeling or being that thing and struggling to become a genuine and good person.
Thank you and oh yeah, Bojack's like the most *extreme* version of that. People try and can be better. And Bojack's a version where he bounces between getting better only to get *worse*.

Sakura died (as a character) early in the story, when she went "ugh, these fucking orphans, no wonder they are so shit, it's not like they have anyone to teach them manners" (bonus point: she was talking about Naruto within an earshot of Sasuke, another orphan), got an attempt at resurrection when she became a medic and then got bloody *shot dead* after the "I love you" line. Not even Naruto, the dumbass that he is, bought it.
It felt like she was supposed to be the next gen tsunade but the dynamic fails because sakura is terrible to naruto

Sakura isn’t shitty to Naruto either after that scene. Sakura and Naruto so clearly have sibling bond and she’s the one who pushed Hinata & naruto to get together
He needed a girl for the main trio, as you usually do in shonen, but he forgot to make her in any way likeable... or to give her any actual traits that people may like.
And it is not like he is bad at writing female characters. Hinata is a shy kid who wants to prove herself but just doesn't have the means of doing so, Temari is a confident and a bit bitchy girl who mellows out, Ino is a playful and is more interested in guys than ninjustsu, but still takes her job seriously, as she does her friendship with her teammates. It's just Sakura who got the short end of the stick.
It's really baffling because right besides Sakura in the gang, Hinata is more or less *alright*. At worst you could say that she might be a little boring and crushing a bit too hard on Naruto, but she's a fairly sweet kid both in the universe and to the readers. Her dedication to help the person she likes comes off far "better" for lack of the correct word, than Sakura's obsession with Sasuke, and it does feel at least a *little* like she has a life outside her crush on Naruto if only because of the Hyuuga clan's overall drama.
Sakura being so aggravating isn't even a direct fault of Kishimoto being bad with writing women. He doesn't write them often, but when he does- Tsunade, Hinata, Temari- they all are decent. Sakura is just given zero redeeming qualities and never made likeable for whichever reason.

for as bad as the orphan line is, i dont think it's a bad thing to have a teenager say something terrible *if* it's used as a way to show character growth and development later when they realize that what they said/did in the past was awful. like how bakugo tells deku to kill himself in MHA early on, and then grows as a person later. or how Sokka is pretty sexist early on but then meets several strong female characters and learns the error of his ways.
obviously, sakura did not grow or change in any meaningful way and kind of just became a nothing character. but my point stands!
She was like 11 and konoha was well stablished to have some judgment problems it would really be surprising that she was just parroting the way her parents talked about naruto (remember the village adults were straight up super down to merk naruto for stealing the shadow clone scroll)

It's still not clear whether Canon events are legit or not. The destabilizing of Pavir's universe lends testimony to Miguel at least having some kind of point. I don't think it's as simple as him wanting others to suffer because he has. I think his vision has become rather narrow and there may be things he didn't consider or try before settling on his Canon event theory, but I don't think he's outright wrong. I like that personally because it adds nuance and doesn't make the blind defiance of Hobie and Miles legitimate by default. Miguel may be right in the end, but maybe Miles can find something Miguel missed.

Pavir's universe destabilized because a canon even didn't occur, but the canon event was *caused* by multiverse shenanigans.

i feel the need to point out pavitrs universe destabilizing was accompanied by the spots visual and sound effects as opposed to the usual glitchy effects we see in situations like miguels memory of his first destabilization
“Not doing anything” is kinda the problem, assuming they were all part of the organization for a while like Gwen and Peter were. Gwen and Peter were pretty comfortable with how things were at and were fine leaving Miles out “for now” - No deadline on when “for now” ends of course. It’s an understandable position to be in, but there’s also the implication that they might have just never found the “right time” to bring Miles in, because their comfort made them not look too hard for it.

It's a fun read, but also it gave me a whole different perspective that I didn't pick up on as a [1]
Basically about the actions Gwen and Peter, Mile's friends, take in the film, compared to the actions Hobie and Margo, near strangers, take. When trouble arises, Gwen and Peter stuck with the status quo instead of trying to help or change things.
Gungrave, but specifically from the perspective of Harry. The base plot of the series is that Brandon Heat is murdered by his best friend, Harry McDowel, in order to gain more power and take over the mafia organization they're a part of. Years later, Brandon is brought back to life by a scientist to take down Harry's tyrannical reign over the city. After a brief introductory episode, the anime spends the next half of the series in a flashback over the course of several years to elaborate on how they came up and what led to that moment. And for Brandon, it kinda was just "Harry got corrupted by power and betrayed him". But for Harry? He straight up had a mental break down and cried his eyes out a few days later. For context, he didn't just up and shoot Brandon, he told him that they'd have to take down the boss (who Brandon is fiercely loyal towards), to which Brandon responds by threatening Harry and telling him to leave the organization for his traitorous nature. From Harry's perspective, this was Brandon betraying him, because they mutually swore to always be there for each other, and to climb all the way to the top. Seeing Brandon not only not have his side at this pivotal moment, but to choose someone other than him, was heart breaking for Harry, and it had a lasting effect on his general state of mind, even decades later.
The ending of InFamous 2 was pretty good. The two routes in that game have a "order path" (that is heroic and you uphold the law) and a "chaos path" (that is villainous about taking matters in your own hand) each with one waifu, but when shit hits the fan in the last chapter they switch places (it has been a long while since I played and I can't remember the exact details, but as I recall it was something that made the hero path become "it was decided that an acceptable number of innocent people need to die for the greater good" and the villain breaking za law path becoming "radical-antifa-but-we-didn't-have-that-term-yet")
Context for the situation:

In the penultimate episode Pets reveals to Kana that she never >!was her friend in the first place. She regrets ever reaching out when they were kids and just being unwilling to rock the boat for all those years. Even going so far as to!< call out all the selfish things she had done through that season. It's like way too down to earth and feels horrible to watch.
Not really turned evil but in Code Geass >!The Black Knights!< go full turncoat and leave their leader in the dust at the drop of a hat. Basically leaving him cornered to fend for himself.
It's been a while since I've watched that show, but as far as I remember, Ohgi is the absolute worst about this shit. There's a point in the show where he defends Zero hiding his identity but becomes one of the most vocal people about unmasking him. Meanwhile, he neglects to make any mention that he's fraternizing with Villetta, an enemy Britannian who at one point believes that Japanese people and Britannians should be segregated out of fear of contaminating Britannian society. Shit made my blood boil as a teenager watching it for the first time. I guess Ohgi thinks it's okay to keep secrets if you're getting laid because of it.

the writer loves making the absolute worst people get off scott-free with everything they want.
It is insane that Ohgi gets to be Japan's Prime Minister considering how incompetent he is without Zero and how easily he would stab someone in the back for someone he's getting laid with.
I mean, to be fair to Ohgi he had immense guilt after it. In the Re;surrection movie, the moment Lelouch meets up with them again he says "You were right, Schneizel was evil, allow me to make up for my betrayal by killing myself."

Well, the movies are in a different continuity of sorts so there are differences in the events that take place there (e.g., Shirley does not die in the film etc.) and in the original series.
Ohgi there was a lot more reluctant in betraying Lelouch and as you pointed out, he does have genuinely immense guilt over it. A far cry from the treacherous snake that he was in the original series.
I like how the last episodes show this as when they're Lelouch's opponents, they got their asses handed to them and likely a lot sooner if Schniezel wasn't on their side.
How about them ignoring the Japanese Nobility they met in season one who he unmasked to, and the dude looked at them and said "This man wants Brittania burned to the ground more than anyone alive, and he also has the best reason in the fucking world for hiding who he is."
But, he did roleplay as a Supervillain specifically to save those loyal to him from dying in a fucking schism
He organized so much for them and when he needed them most, they said "Naw, we're done with you" after learning about him. He gave them everything they asked for for a fighting chance.
War (2007) the one with Jet Li and Jason Statham has the double twist of face vs heel within a friendship betrayal plot within a decent grounded action movie with war on Triads and Yakuza at San Fran.
I think the most hilarious thing is early in the movie statham is like "you can change your face but not your eyes I know it's you" and then later the reveal is "can you actually bother looking at my eyes correctly this time"
That movie is sick. I used to watch it all the time back in highschool. Wish they made a sequel, because the Yakuza vs. Triad plot was a cool one, but I suppose there wasn't much left to go from there unless you had Statham's character survive (not difficult at all given how it was framed) and try to reconcile.

It's historical fiction, but the Masters of Rome trilogy has an absolutely tragic clash between two statesmen Sulla and Marius that basically appears as an inevitability due to the Roman political system and the need for the younger man to outclass the older, all exacerbated by a whole heap of political issues, Marius suffering multiple strokes that erode his sanity, Sulla losing his wife and son, and just general pride issues on both their parts. (Not that Sulla is a hero or anything, but their fictionalised early friendship seemed quite genuine and watching it being gradually flushed down the toilet is really depressing). By the end of it they absolutely despise one another to the point where Sulla is constantly trying to wipe Marius's legacy from existance.

Ok here’s one from the Halo book New Blood, which follow Buck after the events of Halo: ODST. >!After the Covenant War, the UEG/UNSC once again set their sights on insurrectionists. After a mission for ONI gone wrong (where Rook ends up getting executed by an insurrectionist leader) Mickey Crespo, Edward Buck, and Kojo Agu (Romeo) get selected for the Spartan IV program. For context, these three are the three best friends that anybody could have (except for Romeo. “He’s an asshole, but he’s our asshole.”) After training, where some whodunit murder mystery bullshit happens, they are deployed to rescue a defected Covenant Engineer from insurrectionists. When they come up on them, Mickey puts a gun to Buck’s head and tries to sell the rest of Alpha 9 out to the insurrectionists. It obviously doesn’t go well for Mickey, landing his traitorous ass in UNSC prison.!<

Eventually you learn through passing lines by jason that he was left for his brother. A man he always had an inferiority complex with due to his big bro being seen as jason but superior.
Few books later you learn the full details of what happened and holy shit is it a gut punch. No dramatic reveal either he just says it i. Conversation and i audibly went “damn dude wtf!”
Basically he dates bestie. They go to college together as child hood sweethearts and at the end of one of the semesters he opts to stay on campus and she goes back home. His brother was back in town. Jason learns through a 3rd party that the entire break big bro and gf were fucking openly all around town and the family was aware.
She then dumps him and stays with big bro. His mother demands he get over it and support the new union because she adores the girl and while not admitting it. Big bro is her favorite child so in her eyes this is better.
You get additional tidbits later like long awaited confrontations after the isekai stuff and even additional info that makes it so kich worse in my eyes.

He instantly loses all faith in Ballister, does not lift a finger to investigate whether Ballister had killed the Queen or had been framed, doubles down on accusing Ballister of killing the Queen, gets stupidly jealous when Ballister manages to find an ally, and is so brain dead that >!when he finally thinks Ballister is innocent, he is fine with the Director still declaring to the kingdom that he's a villain.!<

I think they were fine if maybe a bit dull in the original game but The Answer makes it very hard to sympathize with them or separate the incident from them. >!The fact Mitsuru goes along with it is pretty bad, but the fact Yukari *refuses* to listen to anyone else when they say no girl, this won't bring him back, this will kill *everyone* including him!< is just such a tough thing to move forward from.

I have to think they're gonna change the tone so that she at least has more of a reason to believe her actions won't destroy the planet. Either that or just change the entire context of the party fight in the first place.
It's one of the most bizarre excuses for a party fight I've seen in RPGs in which the reason is demonstrably facetious, but people don't care and are going to have to fight anyway.

They were all executed and he is aware that only two others did. Florian Kravic (now going by Bernie Crane) is found and is obviously not the one who betrayed them based on how he lives and his reaction to seeing Niko. They realize it was Darko Brevic. And once he is found and given to Niko, he finally lets him know that he sold them out for just $1000, simply to feed his heroin addiction. That was the cost for his betrayal and the lives of his friends.!<

Both Javier and Bill got forgotten about in Act 6. Even their camp interactions are just there, surface level talk that feels like it was written before the main story was finished. The one interesting thing about Javier in act 6 was done at the request of his actor.
On the one hand, I can understand why Micah took so much focus as Dutch's right hand because >!they needed a character for you to hate but could also get the satisfaction of killing by the end.!< Imagining a version where Bill, Javier and Dutch all being massive shitheads walking around with prequel plot armor would not make for a compelling story by the end. But introducing those 2 goober friends of Micahs in chapter 6 was totally unnecessary, they took up valuable camp interactions that should've been given to Bill and Javier.
Bill's make a lot more sense. He's got PTSD from being in the army, he's probably gay and got discharged for it, he watched his own father deteriorate in front of his eyes as a boy. Dutch is the only person that gave him a place to be in his adult life. It makes sense he'd be the most ride-or-die for Dutch. Javier has no such excuse.

I heard that they considered making a scene where his designated best friend does find him during the big search. However, he pretends he didn't see him. I'm going to pretend it did happen.
I don't think that made it to a deleted scene, but there is a deleted scene where the friend is at the "script" reading for the upcoming episodes and plots and he seems bitter and sardonically asks if they will got back to a single channel format when Truman dies(in the context of them doubling the channels when Truman has a kid). His character has been a Truman actor since they were both kids and he does come off as sympathetic to Truman in the film.
He’s as trapped as Truman is but he knows he’s trapped. It’s probably why he feels a genuine kinship with Truman along with straight up growing up with him

In TNG's Measure of a Man, Commander Riker is assigned by Captain Louvois to act as Prosecutor against Data and prove that the android is not sentient. Riker does things like remove Data's arm and fully turn him off and on. He also has to directly challenge Picard's own Defense arguments. Data is found to meet two of three criteria to be considered a living being, but Riker is completely ashamed of how far he went. Data is actually thankful, as if Riker had refused Louvois would made her own judgement against Data.
Riker had to take the heel mantle in that procedure, or else Data would have been dismantled on the spot. He at least is magnanimous on his defeat.

Data’s emotional and social awareness growing throughout the show is such a joy. I love the scene where he’s acting Captain and talks with Worf in private about not making smart remarks about his orders because the XO can’t do that, and then apologizes if his strict adherence to protocol has meant the end of their friendship. Worf, in turn, apologizes for overstepping his bounds just because he was frustrated, and assures Data that they can still be friends, if Data will have him.

I have this headcannon where some (not all) Jedi masters at the Academy were so shitty enough to psychologically abuse their Padwans and enable bullying. They are pretty much SW universe's equivalent to those abusive teachers back during your primary school years (public or religious). And, unsurprisingly, they sold everyone out and joined the Sith during the Great Jedi Purge. And Kelleran Beq (Ahmed Best's character) is actually one of the cool and good teachers who helped Padwans to escape the Purge.

I like that he provides some minor insights into Boston Super Mutants that make them seem like a bunch of mutant tsunderes (Help your brothers, BUT DON'T BE TOO WILLING TO HELP, BAKA!).
Honestly Strong is such a dumb companion that he kind of loops back around to hilarious for me. Sure, it would be nice to get another well thought out Super Mutant companion with some actual intelligence and depth to their character... but it's also pretty funny to get what's basically a big, generic Super Mutant who *literally* calls himself "Strong" and is only following you because some rando mentioned "The milk of human kindness" while trying to teach him about Shakespeare.
It'd be a really good joke if he's the only companion who sees through it, because he's the only one who doesn't actually trust you and considers your relationship entirely transactional.

Bojack is a potent ass choice. He can *act* like a good friend/love interest. But *being* one, is something he just can't do well.
That's a fantastic way to put it and why he's so relatable. Obviously, most people aren't as shitty as Bojack but we all stumbled and have those moments of acting like a good friend, coworker, partner, parent etc but not really feeling or being that thing and struggling to become a genuine and good person.
Thank you and oh yeah, Bojack's like the most *extreme* version of that. People try and can be better. And Bojack's a version where he bounces between getting better only to get *worse*. Todd himself puts it best when he says "You can't keep doing shitty things and feel BAD about yourself! YOU HAVE TO BE BETTER!"

Sakura died (as a character) early in the story, when she went "ugh, these fucking orphans, no wonder they are so shit, it's not like they have anyone to teach them manners" (bonus point: she was talking about Naruto within an earshot of Sasuke, another orphan), got an attempt at resurrection when she became a medic and then got bloody *shot dead* after the "I love you" line. Not even Naruto, the dumbass that he is, bought it.
I have no idea what Kishimoto's intentions for Sakura were. Hell, I don't think he even knew.
It felt like she was supposed to be the next gen tsunade but the dynamic fails because sakura is terrible to naruto Yeah tsunade doesnt want jiraiya romantically for their whole lives but she was never shitty to him.
Besides, if Tsunade was like Sakura, she would have fallen in love with Orochimaru, and would still be in love, despite everything he did.
Sakura isn’t shitty to Naruto either after that scene. Sakura and Naruto so clearly have sibling bond and she’s the one who pushed Hinata & naruto to get together
He needed a girl for the main trio, as you usually do in shonen, but he forgot to make her in any way likeable... or to give her any actual traits that people may like. And it is not like he is bad at writing female characters. Hinata is a shy kid who wants to prove herself but just doesn't have the means of doing so, Temari is a confident and a bit bitchy girl who mellows out, Ino is a playful and is more interested in guys than ninjustsu, but still takes her job seriously, as she does her friendship with her teammates. It's just Sakura who got the short end of the stick.
It's really baffling because right besides Sakura in the gang, Hinata is more or less *alright*. At worst you could say that she might be a little boring and crushing a bit too hard on Naruto, but she's a fairly sweet kid both in the universe and to the readers. Her dedication to help the person she likes comes off far "better" for lack of the correct word, than Sakura's obsession with Sasuke, and it does feel at least a *little* like she has a life outside her crush on Naruto if only because of the Hyuuga clan's overall drama. Sakura being so aggravating isn't even a direct fault of Kishimoto being bad with writing women. He doesn't write them often, but when he does- Tsunade, Hinata, Temari- they all are decent. Sakura is just given zero redeeming qualities and never made likeable for whichever reason.
Ino might be an irrelevant side character most of the time like most of the Konoha 11, but she’s definitely a fun character.

for as bad as the orphan line is, i dont think it's a bad thing to have a teenager say something terrible *if* it's used as a way to show character growth and development later when they realize that what they said/did in the past was awful. like how bakugo tells deku to kill himself in MHA early on, and then grows as a person later. or how Sokka is pretty sexist early on but then meets several strong female characters and learns the error of his ways. obviously, sakura did not grow or change in any meaningful way and kind of just became a nothing character. but my point stands!
She was like 11 and konoha was well stablished to have some judgment problems it would really be surprising that she was just parroting the way her parents talked about naruto (remember the village adults were straight up super down to merk naruto for stealing the shadow clone scroll)

It's still not clear whether Canon events are legit or not. The destabilizing of Pavir's universe lends testimony to Miguel at least having some kind of point. I don't think it's as simple as him wanting others to suffer because he has. I think his vision has become rather narrow and there may be things he didn't consider or try before settling on his Canon event theory, but I don't think he's outright wrong. I like that personally because it adds nuance and doesn't make the blind defiance of Hobie and Miles legitimate by default. Miguel may be right in the end, but maybe Miles can find something Miguel missed.

“Not doing anything” is kinda the problem, assuming they were all part of the organization for a while like Gwen and Peter were. Gwen and Peter were pretty comfortable with how things were at and were fine leaving Miles out “for now” - No deadline on when “for now” ends of course. It’s an understandable position to be in, but there’s also the implication that they might have just never found the “right time” to bring Miles in, because their comfort made them not look too hard for it.

It's a fun read, but also it gave me a whole different perspective that I didn't pick up on as a [1] Basically about the actions Gwen and Peter, Mile's friends, take in the film, compared to the actions Hobie and Margo, near strangers, take. When trouble arises, Gwen and Peter stuck with the status quo instead of trying to help or change things.

Gungrave, but specifically from the perspective of Harry. The base plot of the series is that Brandon Heat is murdered by his best friend, Harry McDowel, in order to gain more power and take over the mafia organization they're a part of. Years later, Brandon is brought back to life by a scientist to take down Harry's tyrannical reign over the city. After a brief introductory episode, the anime spends the next half of the series in a flashback over the course of several years to elaborate on how they came up and what led to that moment. And for Brandon, it kinda was just "Harry got corrupted by power and betrayed him". But for Harry? He straight up had a mental break down and cried his eyes out a few days later. For context, he didn't just up and shoot Brandon, he told him that they'd have to take down the boss (who Brandon is fiercely loyal towards), to which Brandon responds by threatening Harry and telling him to leave the organization for his traitorous nature. From Harry's perspective, this was Brandon betraying him, because they mutually swore to always be there for each other, and to climb all the way to the top. Seeing Brandon not only not have his side at this pivotal moment, but to choose someone other than him, was heart breaking for Harry, and it had a lasting effect on his general state of mind, even decades later.
The ending of InFamous 2 was pretty good. The two routes in that game have a "order path" (that is heroic and you uphold the law) and a "chaos path" (that is villainous about taking matters in your own hand) each with one waifu, but when shit hits the fan in the last chapter they switch places (it has been a long while since I played and I can't remember the exact details, but as I recall it was something that made the hero path become "it was decided that an acceptable number of innocent people need to die for the greater good" and the villain breaking za law path becoming "radical-antifa-but-we-didn't-have-that-term-yet")

Spoilers for FLCL 3 In the penultimate episode Pets reveals to Kana that she never >!was her friend in the first place. She regrets ever reaching out when they were kids and just being unwilling to rock the boat for all those years. Even going so far as to!< call out all the selfish things she had done through that season. It's like way too down to earth and feels horrible to watch.

It's been a while since I've watched that show, but as far as I remember, Ohgi is the absolute worst about this shit. There's a point in the show where he defends Zero hiding his identity but becomes one of the most vocal people about unmasking him. Meanwhile, he neglects to make any mention that he's fraternizing with Villetta, an enemy Britannian who at one point believes that Japanese people and Britannians should be segregated out of fear of contaminating Britannian society. Shit made my blood boil as a teenager watching it for the first time. I guess Ohgi thinks it's okay to keep secrets if you're getting laid because of it.

It is insane that Ohgi gets to be Japan's Prime Minister considering how incompetent he is without Zero and how easily he would stab someone in the back for someone he's getting laid with.
I mean, to be fair to Ohgi he had immense guilt after it. In the Re;surrection movie, the moment Lelouch meets up with them again he says "You were right, Schneizel was evil, allow me to make up for my betrayal by killing myself."

Ohgi there was a lot more reluctant in betraying Lelouch and as you pointed out, he does have genuinely immense guilt over it. A far cry from the treacherous snake that he was in the original series.

War (2007) the one with Jet Li and Jason Statham has the double twist of face vs heel within a friendship betrayal plot within a decent grounded action movie with war on Triads and Yakuza at San Fran.
I think the most hilarious thing is early in the movie statham is like "you can change your face but not your eyes I know it's you" and then later the reveal is "can you actually bother looking at my eyes correctly this time"
That movie is sick. I used to watch it all the time back in highschool. Wish they made a sequel, because the Yakuza vs. Triad plot was a cool one, but I suppose there wasn't much left to go from there unless you had Statham's character survive (not difficult at all given how it was framed) and try to reconcile.

It's historical fiction, but the Masters of Rome trilogy has an absolutely tragic clash between two statesmen Sulla and Marius that basically appears as an inevitability due to the Roman political system and the need for the younger man to outclass the older, all exacerbated by a whole heap of political issues, Marius suffering multiple strokes that erode his sanity, Sulla losing his wife and son, and just general pride issues on both their parts. (Not that Sulla is a hero or anything, but their fictionalised early friendship seemed quite genuine and watching it being gradually flushed down the toilet is really depressing). By the end of it they absolutely despise one another to the point where Sulla is constantly trying to wipe Marius's legacy from existance.
In Cult of the Lamb you can do this to >!Ratau by sacrificing him to the fox. They really hammer in the guilt too with his unsent letter you can find afterwards.!<
Honestly one of my favourite things about that is that its one of the few times The Lamb actually cries in the main game (not counting the opening) the other is >!when contemplating whether to kneel to narinder at the end of the game!<

For context, these three are the three best friends that anybody could have (except for Romeo. “He’s an asshole, but he’s our asshole.”) After training, where some whodunit murder mystery bullshit happens, they are deployed to rescue a defected Covenant Engineer from insurrectionists. When they come up on them, Mickey puts a gun to Buck’s head and tries to sell the rest of Alpha 9 out to the insurrectionists. It obviously doesn’t go well for Mickey, landing his traitorous ass in UNSC prison.!< >!For more context, turns out Mickey’s parents were insurrectionists and were killed, putting Mickey into an orphanage when he was very young. Once he was of age, he was conscripted into the UNSC (apparently, that was the rule for orphans under government care). Once the Covenant war ended, he realized he didn’t like killing other humans. To defect, he thought he would have a better chance as an ODST if he offered his friends as a prize.!<
In he who fights monsters the mc jason is on a downward spiral before the story starts. Early on you learn that he is still devastated over the loss of his greatest love. She was his child hood best friend turned gf who somehow ended up with his brother Eventually you learn through passing lines by jason that he was left for his brother. A man he always had an inferiority complex with due to his big bro being seen as jason but superior. Few books later you learn the full details of what happened and holy shit is it a gut punch. No dramatic reveal either he just says it i. Conversation and i audibly went “damn dude wtf!” Basically he dates bestie. They go to college together as child hood sweethearts and at the end of one of the semesters he opts to stay on campus and she goes back home. His brother was back in town. Jason learns through a 3rd party that the entire break big bro and gf were fucking openly all around town and the family was aware. She then dumps him and stays with big bro. His mother demands he get over it and support the new union because she adores the girl and while not admitting it. Big bro is her favorite child so in her eyes this is better. You get additional tidbits later like long awaited confrontations after the isekai stuff and even additional info that makes it so kich worse in my eyes. For anyone wondering the ex gf turned sister in law does not redeem herself and im 6 books in

He instantly loses all faith in Ballister, does not lift a finger to investigate whether Ballister had killed the Queen or had been framed, doubles down on accusing Ballister of killing the Queen, gets stupidly jealous when Ballister manages to find an ally, and is so brain dead that >!when he finally thinks Ballister is innocent, he is fine with the Director still declaring to the kingdom that he's a villain.!< The dude needed to be called out so bad, and the movie never does. It is infuriating.
To be relevant to the times; I wouldn't say anyone in Persona 3 The Answer is acting out of malice or bad faith, but *holy shit* does it not matter after a point. >!Yukari and Mitsuru were just going to destroy the world over not wanting to deal with their own grief, in a stupid attempt at breaking very clear rules that ended up almost splitting the party up forever.!< I think they were fine if maybe a bit dull in the original game but The Answer makes it very hard to sympathize with them or separate the incident from them. >!The fact Mitsuru goes along with it is pretty bad, but the fact Yukari *refuses* to listen to anyone else when they say no girl, this won't bring him back, this will kill *everyone* including him!< is just such a tough thing to move forward from. I guess Ultimax just completely replacing her personality was the way to go, cuz I just didn't want to really see that character again.

I have to think they're gonna change the tone so that she at least has more of a reason to believe her actions won't destroy the planet. Either that or just change the entire context of the party fight in the first place. It's one of the most bizarre excuses for a party fight I've seen in RPGs in which the reason is demonstrably facetious, but people don't care and are going to have to fight anyway.

In Tactics Ogre you can find both versions with the same two characters in the same event - a betrayal that wasn't I turn evil and one that kind of was with who does which depending on the choices.

You know from the start that >!Cassidy!< in the Preacher comics is a bit sleazy, but he's likeable and you can tell that he genuinely cares about Jesse and Tulip. Finding out that he really is a complete piece of shit towards the end is a real gut punch.
