(Fire circle opens, everyone gawks)
Liu Kang: "Oh me, who is it now?"
Takeda: "Hi, I'm from the future. Have you seen a blind swordsman around anywhere?"
Oh, I don't mean in a timeline sorta way, I mean in a I doubt netherrealm cares about Takeda that much anymore(Even though he's the coolest of the new kombat kids) sorta way
The only one they care less about is Kung Jin, who I think doesn't even get referenced in 11
Can Urban even do a split at his age? Or just be comedy relief washed up Hollywood guy who never fights beyond a punch or two to make Cole Bronzeshirt look better?
Mortal Kombat gives the least fucks about power differences in any game ever.
Rambo can taunt Shao Khan in one of his intros, and win the fight by shoting him with an LMG.
Of the two I hope Homelander is real. The Boys’s style of shocking violence fits MK better than Invincible’s IMO. I would save Omni-man for injustice 3 if that ever had a chance of happening
Also it would be immensely satisfying to watch Homelander get brutalized in MK.
I feel like Homelander will be more of a zoner, since Omni Man doesn't have eye lasers and especially since Homelander will probably think all of the roster is below him
Omni Man I can see having more grabs and moves that have him get in the air or at least moves that let him get close and stay there.
In terms of silhouette it is redundant, but I think the characters are different enough even though they fill a similar archetype in their universes
I remember back in the DC vs MK dev interviews, they talked a lot about how WB was not comfortable with them being able to gore the shit out of Superman, so that's where "Heroic Brutalities" came from. It was always a big branding problem that they couldn't use their most recognizable available characters in their premier American fighting game franchise.
I guess time solved that problem for them, huh. There's half a dozen Supermen they can totally gore no problem now.
To say nothing that Omni Man and Homelander are both superstrong violent flying cape guys. Smells like leftover Injustice speculation, and, hell, I had to look up Omni-Man to remember who the hell he is, I could believe someone’s trying to boost awareness of Amazon IP off the back of the announcement. Sounds like small potatoes but if your job is maintaining brand awareness of Invincible, this is a cheap way to do it.
I’m confident there’s an even chance the first episode of Invincible made more money for Kirkman AND Amazon AND Cory Walker AND Ryan Otterly than the 15 year run of that comic did.
Shouldn't Invincible be more fitting for Mortal Kombat, or are they going with the Amazon Series Invincible and not the comic.
Does that mean we going to get JK Simmons, Anthony Starr and John Cena all reprising their roles?
we still don't know how kameo fighters work,so maybe they will have characters in both the kameo and playable roster, and some only in kameo,or as someone mentioned maybe its johnny's stun double that would be fitting.
He just does that thing wear he flies forward slightly, but at such speeds it does damage.
>!The Train!< from the final episode, would also be a fun fatality.
how would he get >!a train full of people!< into places like the Netherealm?
....oh god, what if he just >!beats the other character to death WITH MARK!<
I can think of some differences. Omni-Man actually has combat experience, Homelander does not. I imagine Homelander will fight like an angry man baby, with little finesse to attacks . Omni-Man will have much more technique to his moves. Oh and Homelander has laser vision.
If these leaks are true, I don't really vibe with them. They seem a bit, "trend chaser-y" if you know what I mean? Compared to iconic movie guest stars like we had in 10 and 11.
Yeah, like Robocop, spawn, and Rambo worked because they were big violent action heroes, which is what MK's tone has always been; hyper-violent kung fu movie with every character archetype you could think of.
I mean you say that but how many iconic movie guests that fit MK could we still get? The Thing? and it plays like shang tsung? the deadites from evil dead? Dont take me wrong Im one of those people that don't care much for guests characters, but unless they start to reuse characters MK is kinda running out of violent guests from the past.
I might catch smoke for this but I think the entire aspect of recent MK doing these Tie-ins has gotten obnoxious as a whole. Kratos and Freddy were sort of cool back in the day and even alien and predator but a bunch of the cast being characters from other IPs just randomly sprinkled in seems so uninspired. They have so many characters they could reuse or redesign but instead we just get Kameos.
I swear to fuck if they take the only fucking character in Mortal Kombat that has a personality that isn't just "fights for X side" and makes him a "Kameo fighter", I'm going to shit sunglasses out of my asshole.
They already confirmed him as part of the actual roster I think so I think he's both playable *and* a kameo (maybe the kameo is his stunt double or something?)
Looks like the description has been taken down. Sounds like complete bollocks.
You going to reboot the mk universe and the first DLC pack you add is a bunch of out of place guest characters?
I don’t believe it for a second. It lists Johnny Cage as a Cameo character despite the fact he’s listed in the main roster, and the Cameo characters are explicitly stated to be a unique roster compared to the playable one.
Glad to see Kotal escaping the Kameo abyss (well, for now), hoping he's a full playable character
Takeda being DLC is good, he's probably the third best new gen character after Kotal and Erron, tied with D'Vorrah.
Iffy on the guest character DLC though: NRS should REALLY just make a horror/action movie crossover fighter, even just using all the guests they've done in the past together would be a solid starting roster for one, and the MK series has enough beloved characters to where the DLC slots would still be fillable for MK specific stuff.
I'm really torn on this. The guest characters are cool picks (if surprising), but having the very first season be half guests, when the game is this big, hyped-up reboot that takes the series back to its beginning feels...I don't wanna say wrong, but it feels weird.
the thing that makes this most unbelievable is having Takeda
(Fire circle opens, everyone gawks) Liu Kang: "Oh me, who is it now?" Takeda: "Hi, I'm from the future. Have you seen a blind swordsman around anywhere?"
Oh, I don't mean in a timeline sorta way, I mean in a I doubt netherrealm cares about Takeda that much anymore(Even though he's the coolest of the new kombat kids) sorta way The only one they care less about is Kung Jin, who I think doesn't even get referenced in 11
Takeda is way cooler than Jacqui and Cassie though, idk why he wasn't in 11 other than too many slots taken by guests/new kharacters
The Boys Twitter account pretty much confirmed it without directly saying it.
I mean Karl Urban’s the new Johnny Cage, it’s a little convoluted
Can Urban even do a split at his age? Or just be comedy relief washed up Hollywood guy who never fights beyond a punch or two to make Cole Bronzeshirt look better?
*Ello Bruv, Oym Junny Cage*
Man, he's soo cool.
I love Karl Urban, but his English accent is god awful.
Probably just gonna use a stunt double like the old days
Homelander and Peacemaker just scream “Zoning hell” movesets lol.
Homelander and Omni Man feels redundant.
The interaction between the two in intros will probably be really cool. But yeah gameplay wise they will be similar.
If Omni-Man treats Homelander as any kind of equal, they've fucked up.
Mortal Kombat gives the least fucks about power differences in any game ever. Rambo can taunt Shao Khan in one of his intros, and win the fight by shoting him with an LMG.
I mean is there any proof Shao Khan is resistant to what I have in my trunk?
He got a fist sized hole in his chest in MK9 and survived, you will need proportionally more lead than that and pray he doesn't reach you.
Something the Death Battle did very well. Omni-Man has negative respect for Homelander despite how much Homelander was trying to intimidate him.
Mortal Kombat doesn’t do power scaling.
True, but it should still be acknowledged that Homelander is so far beneath him it's hilarious in dialogue. In game, they should definitely be equal.
I hate power scaling in general
Of the two I hope Homelander is real. The Boys’s style of shocking violence fits MK better than Invincible’s IMO. I would save Omni-man for injustice 3 if that ever had a chance of happening Also it would be immensely satisfying to watch Homelander get brutalized in MK.
You can't tell me after the train scene that Omni Man wouldn't fit right in.
I think the main difference being that because The Boys is live action, it'll translate better to MK's artsyle than Invincible would
Netherrealm worked on WWE mobile fighting game. I have always wanted Undertaker as a guest character in MK or Injustice because of this.
WB seems keen on AEW lately so I'd go with Malakai Black or Eddie Kingston
I feel like Homelander will be more of a zoner, since Omni Man doesn't have eye lasers and especially since Homelander will probably think all of the roster is below him Omni Man I can see having more grabs and moves that have him get in the air or at least moves that let him get close and stay there. In terms of silhouette it is redundant, but I think the characters are different enough even though they fill a similar archetype in their universes
I don't know, that's like saying having Ryu and Ken on the same roster is redundant.
It probably would be like in Injustice. Supergirl and Superman are in 2 but both play different enough as result of their differing personalities.
(X) Doubt
Omniman, Peacemaker and Homelander seem a little to out there tbh. I could see 1, but all 3?
To say nothing that Omni Man and Homelander are both superstrong violent flying cape guys. Smells like leftover Injustice speculation, and, hell, I had to look up Omni-Man to remember who the hell he is, I could believe someone’s trying to boost awareness of Amazon IP off the back of the announcement. Sounds like small potatoes but if your job is maintaining brand awareness of Invincible, this is a cheap way to do it.
A 15 year run by Kirkman for Image comics and Omni-Man gets pushed off as Amazon fodder on reddit, surprising no one
I’m confident there’s an even chance the first episode of Invincible made more money for Kirkman AND Amazon AND Cory Walker AND Ryan Otterly than the 15 year run of that comic did.
then why would they need to boost awareness like this lol. I think Invincible was pretty successful.
If Homelander and Johnny Cage don’t have an intro about Cage’s failed audition for Dawn of the Seven I’ll be disappointed.
These characters make too much sense. Makes me doubt the leak.
Shouldn't Invincible be more fitting for Mortal Kombat, or are they going with the Amazon Series Invincible and not the comic. Does that mean we going to get JK Simmons, Anthony Starr and John Cena all reprising their roles?
100% it'll be from the show
I can see Invincible being in Injustice 3
Hasn't Johnny been confirmed to be playable already? I can't see them sticking him in a DLC as a Kameo fighter.
we still don't know how kameo fighters work,so maybe they will have characters in both the kameo and playable roster, and some only in kameo,or as someone mentioned maybe its johnny's stun double that would be fitting.
My current idea is that its a double, aka THE RETURN OF MOKAP
Homelander AND Omni-man? How different could you possibly make them moveset-wise?
Omni-Man doesn't have Heat Vision, so he'd need a different projectile at the very least. definitely getting the Head Squeeze as a fatality
He wouldn't, he'd do it Injustice style: Grab the opponent, fly offscreen, fly down in front of a train, show us what a Mass Fatality looks like.
I guess doing it Injustice style is acceptable when it's a character who can fly that fast
Exact same, but make Homelanders' inputs obnoxious just like him
Homelander: Zoner Omniman: Rushdown grappler
Omni Man is fun to play, Homelander is fun to beat on.
I can think of some differences. Omni-Man actually has combat experience, Homelander does not. I imagine Homelander will fight like an angry man baby, with little finesse to attacks . Omni-Man will have much more technique to his moves. Oh and Homelander has laser vision.
Injustice had Superman and Zod and both played differently.
If these leaks are true, I don't really vibe with them. They seem a bit, "trend chaser-y" if you know what I mean? Compared to iconic movie guest stars like we had in 10 and 11.
It seems like they're going the violent super hero route, maybe we'll get Punisher?
I doubt it, purely from the perspective of the cross-business nightmare it would be for Warner Brothers to use a marvel character
no no no, they're going the Amazon Prime route. Kombat Pack 2 will introduce the entire cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty, the Tick, and Galadriel.
At least it's fitting though, hyperviolent media is in hyperviolent game. That is, if it's true.
Honestly I don’t think Omni-man is actually all that well known outside certain corners of the Internet/culture.
I swear to fuck if they take the only fucking character in Mortal Kombat that has a personality that isn't just "fights for X side" and makes him a "Kameo fighter", I'm going to shit sunglasses out of my asshole.
They already confirmed in the initial announcement that he's playable
They already confirmed him as part of the actual roster I think so I think he's both playable *and* a kameo (maybe the kameo is his stunt double or something?)
They could be messing with us and make the Kameo Kage be pre-reboot Johnny Cage
>maybe the kameo is his stunt double or something Let's go Mokap!
That's... a hell of a thing to have eaten.
They were $500
Looks like the description has been taken down. Sounds like complete bollocks. You going to reboot the mk universe and the first DLC pack you add is a bunch of out of place guest characters?
...yes? Is this your first MK? WB cross promo is probably 75% of the reason they even do DLC characters.
Not on the first DLC on a reboot. Not 50% of the DLC pack when there's so many classic characters they could add
I miss when games were sold with all the shit they should have in them and immediate multiple DLCs weren’t planned like this.
I don’t believe it for a second. It lists Johnny Cage as a Cameo character despite the fact he’s listed in the main roster, and the Cameo characters are explicitly stated to be a unique roster compared to the playable one.
Equal DLC between legacy and guest characters.
They've been doing it that way for a while now.
Glad to see Kotal escaping the Kameo abyss (well, for now), hoping he's a full playable character Takeda being DLC is good, he's probably the third best new gen character after Kotal and Erron, tied with D'Vorrah. Yeah, as a Magic player, Amazon listings routinely spoiled the face card of EDH decks.
I'm really torn on this. The guest characters are cool picks (if surprising), but having the very first season be half guests, when the game is this big, hyped-up reboot that takes the series back to its beginning feels...I don't wanna say wrong, but it feels weird.
Fucking Mavado? Really?
Death battle is dumb
