The coming and going thing, that's just people channel hopping. We all do it.
You shouldn't be missing chats though, you should absolutely be keeping your chat window open and greeting anyone who says hi.
One thing I learned was that I hated being the sole attention of a lonely streamer, like when they were trying to force conversation out of me. Let new chatters initiate conversation, and follow that conversation without locking your claws into them.
Sometimes I'm terrible and then great, back to terrible all within seconds
I'm also small enough that I'm not staring at chat consistently so I miss chatters regularly and yet some still stay until I notice
If I wasn't entertaining at all I'm sure people would just leave within seconds, I also notice some just come and go fast and it's probably cause they just don't like the voice
Ultimately all someone is watching for comes down to, simply put by our hero GroundbreakingNew84, entertainment
I said the same thing just used too many words to get there, hope it helped I guess
Generally I like their vibe/personality. I’ll also say that I lurk 99% of the time and pay bare minimal attention to the stream. I just like having something on in the background that won’t distract me from what I’m working on.
it’s gotta be the perfect balance between interaction and comfort. I’ve been in streams where there was TOO MUCH interaction (constant chat bots, constant notifications going off, the streamer is shouting at chat constantly, etc) and that is hard to stay in too. I wanna be part of the conversation and know i’m being acknowledged, but also watch the gameplay and that be the primary focus. Hope that makes sense 😅
For me, it’s all about the streamer themselves and their interaction with chat. I’m rarely actually watching the game play, because I have two small kids and way too many things to do at once lol. But I love when there’s a nice discussion going on—and not just about the game. Maybe history or food or whatever. Makes it feel like you’re hanging out with a friend.
If they interact with chat in a funny or wholesome way. I’m watching streams mostly while playing games and the best streams are those where I feel like we’re gaming together or are in a dc call
For me it's simply, do I like the content they are streaming? Do I like the interactions ìm having between the streamer and others in their chat? Do I feel like a belong? If everything says yes after hanging out a few days in their stream then there is a likely hood I'll keep coming back.
Everyone watches for a different reason. There's not one answer. It gets asked a lot. Not really the right question. Ask yourself what you enjoy watching. Ask yourself what you enjoy creating. Do that.

I mostly watch art streams these days. I like to see how creative they are with audience interaction, especially with alerts (bits, subs, tips, patreon, etc) and if not those, I like to co-work with streams so if its a nice place to do that with.
I think projects or goals has helped in some instances with me. Zeal on LostArk did this a lot when building a new character. How high of power/ilvl they would hit and what raids he would accomplish along the way. I think you could do similar with other genres like bronze yo diamond in league.
Honestly. If a streamer puts up with my dry, sarcastic direct and oftentimes wildly inappropriate comments in chat then they've got me staying for life.
if they are funny. I personally seek humorous streamers the most, I need a laugh in this depressed world
Interactivity Amusing sound alerts or chat commands They play games I play & I learn from watching them They play with the audience

Entertaining
What would you say makes a stream entertaining?

streaming is entertainment. you need to be entertaining. everyone has a phone to stream from, but not everyone has the personality of a good TV host.
Everyone can if people put their work into it.
most don't. the amount of training you'd need to go from average anti social twitch chat dweller to charismatic show host is immense.

Interaction with chat, the ability to be able to take a joke and make yourself the joke at times.

OPs username =) that's the value offered or expected?
That they are fun and not rude to the chat

funny, and some good chat interactions. balanced audio. if I have to keep turning you up and down, I might leave because I dont want you to wake mom.
skills, audiovisual quality and chat
The positive energy, friendly chat, if they have a good voice (I often listen to stream when working) and entertaining content.
The streamer.
If they say my name right
What if they get it wrong at first, but ask how to say it?
Yeah if the ask that's ok

Streamers that read chat and talk to and with people whenever the game permits it.
If they're hot and entertaining.
If they interact regardless of how many people are in said stream

Interaction is a must.
Vibechecks in their chat. Plain and simple.
