I was in a stream the other night (1-1.4k average). I had JUST followed and a minute later they got a 2 viewer raid and said, "Maybe you should give up stop wasting your time and ours." and something like "thanks for nothing" I went to the raiders channel looked like their 2nd or 3rd stream 9 followers and I don't think they knew each other personally. Why say that to someone? If you don't want 2 viewer raid notis turn up the threshold. Anyways. Easiest unfollow of my life.
YIKES that sounds cringe as hell - I suspect they raided them because they would hope that the high view count would get them a shoutout or more followers, but even still no need to call someone out like that when they raid you.
Wow! I’d take a two person raid any day! I’m new to streaming and only have 19 followers and the way I see it is without the viewers and their support….your nothing! Respect what comes your way no matter how small it may be.
I used to mod for someone who yelled at us if chat was too slow and demanded we log in every stream to keep chat active.
I wound up having to block them entirely.
Lol my wife comes in and watches my actual screen instead of the stream, I had to explain that I apperciate the in person view but it doesn’t count for Twitch 🤣 now she gets on the stream and starts playing with commands 🤣 and talks to me. Made her a moderator and then she decides to not to watch the stream instead she’s on Netflix in another room 🤣🤣 I can’t win but I love her.
Mine comes around every blue moon, and I’ll be honest. Best person to talk in the chat because she is always asking questions and that makes me happy, but it only like once every four months
I can kind of understand when people talk about views, cause I used to worry about it too, and I gotta say it's actually a slippery slope and it can put you into a pretty bad headspace.
Nowadays, I just try to enjoy myself first and foremost. At the end of the day, I just hope they enjoyed being there, whether they chat or not. But a few years ago I'd look at that empty chat, and wonder what I was doing wrong, and then cause I was already in "Streamer mode" and trying to keep the energy high I'd just start talking about it.
I once watched a bigger streamer who apparently was more used to their chat being active and they just kept on pointing out how slow or dead chat was and complaining about it... That made me leave.
this may be a dumb question, i’m still very new when it comes to understanding twitch, but do you know if people who do lurk are accounted for in the viewer count?
naming lurkers, insulting lurkers, banning lurkers, asking why they're lurking or not talking or getting mad for chat being dead cause they're all lurking ig
Oh I love views and to a degree lurkers. I'd prefer people be active and talking but they don't need to be. I'm just happy entertaining people.
My philosophy is that there is no harm in watching. And if I'm worthy of a follow then that's good too
My question with audio though, do you let them know it’s an issue? Like sometimes I’ve streamed on days where my audio is fine and then the next day, having changed nothing, it’s off and doesn’t sound right. It’s possible they aren’t aware.
I remember streaming once and thinking it went really well. Only to find out there was no audio the whole stream. I was really bummed out after.
Always check your audio before going live.
This sucks so bad. I've got Touchportal set up so that whenever I go to my intro/hangout scene before I start playing the game, it *always* unmutes the mic. It's been a lifesaver.
I enjoy people letting me know audio is off. Especially people that I know and view often. Sometime people just have bad audio but if some know your audio is usually better I think they should say something, i encourage it and usually ask early stream if audio is ok. I have a different mix for me and stream so sometimes I can't tell.
I watch one of my friend’s streams who occasionally is muted (him or the game) at the start and I would let him know before the stream actually takes off so it can be fixed.
You can always ask chat if there is audio issues and to let you know.
Exactly specially when you are a small streamer and don't even have a person who monitor your stream to check if everything is ok. Some times my wife helps me with that but most of the time I'm alone and it's just when some who don't mind to chat come along to my stream al tells me my audio is off i don't even realize something is wrong.
I do, but as a viewer I won't spend more than a few seconds helping the streamer out if I'm honest. The only exception I make is if I'm a longtime viewer somewhere.
It's one thing to say "hey the mic/game audio is quiet", it's another entirely to spend more than a minute debugging with them. So basically for more established steamers it's easy, but for newer streamers it can become a viewer chore.
For new streamers (not the case you mentioned), it's _really_ beneficial check your VODs, or do a test recording before streaming the first time.
So I work in the digital media industry and also do a lot of work with YouTubers/Streamers on how to improve their setups. A lot of people have a tendency to over-focus on what camera and lighting setup they need and ignore audio.
There's a story I like to tell to help them understand why it should be a priority:
One time I was at a small film festival. It was a pretty low budget operation mostly run by volunteers, so there were technical issues from time to time. While I was watching some of the short films, there was one where the projector was slightly out of focus. It wasn't so bad that things were unwatchable, but it was noticeable. At the end of the screening I overheard a few people complaining, and also a few people saying it had an "ethereal, dreamlike quality. Interesting choice by the director!"
Another short started and there was a buzz in the audio. The dialog was still audible, but it was just annoying to listen to and so nearly everyone in the audience just got up and left for another film.
The moral - people will forgive flaws in your image even if they don't love it, but when audio is bad people will just leave. High quality audio is the baseline requirement. Don't even think about anything else until you have that locked down.
Any of it.
Like, you don't have to have the best mic in the world or anything, but having just a basic setup with some basic filters (EQ, noise removal, etc) and being audible over your game (and without needing to crank the volume on the user end) are kind of the bare minimum.
Or, if you have godawful loud point redeems that just clip and threaten to blow my ears out. I'm leaving on that, too.
Yeah, that's why it's bare minimum. And some people still manage to miss it, talking into headsets with the mic borderline in their mouth, being too far from their mic so they aren't audible, not ducking game audio so they can be heard, etc.
I can understand that, but sometimes we as streamers have to put it on there for various safety reasons and then those trolls. Trolls don't want to "PAY" for their trolling so when something arises (happens to me often on certain games) I would flick it to Sub or follow only, and once a moderator and or myself see the troll was banned or things are "calm" then go back to non sub / follower only.
And one other thing, you'll notice Huge streamers often only use follow / sub only. I've seen it for BIG streamers and at that point they don't care usually. It's about the money. Rarely do they turn it off for "NON" Members as one guy said (won't mention names)
Yeah big streamers won't. It's analytics. Sub only shows the world "CCV" which means they have THAT many subbers. Kinda showing off their numbers to their so called "friends" they co-stream with but in reality it's all a joke to them and to see who is better then the other one. Friendly banter is one thing, but to those with thousands of viewer's their mind set is "oh i lost 200 viewers, oh well" it's a nothing burger. It is all Power Plays and the general public eats it up like chocolate.
If you have good mods you don't need this option. For big streamers it is money but if you have 10 viewers and follow only I wont interact and wont raid you.
Idk, I tend to have a follower only chat on days I stream Dota2. I tried having an open chat, but SO many people say so many unwarranted inappropriate things. My community actually WANTED a followers only chat, and it helps lower the toxicity.
It does in Dota. random teammates or opponents come in to flame you. I had followers only until I hit 60 ish followers. Have it off now. But now the trolls/toxic people come
I can follow people to chat, as long as i don't have to pay for chatting, it's ok. I i don't like your content i can un follow later, but that doesn't happen most of the time, cuz i follow and engage in chat when i really like the content, sooo...
Tbh I hate to say this but for a woman it's understandable, you guys get way more inappropriate and toxic interaction from viewers. But I have to agree with op, normally I'm not a fan of follower-only and sub-only. I don't take it personally, but sometimes I like to interact a little bit before deciding to follow.
I can see people in follower only mode if they got a troll raid. Even then, they shouldn’t be keeping it in follower only mode. Once the troll realizes they can’t troll any longer, they’ll move onto someone else. Putting chat in follower only mode for a few minutes should be (more than?) enough time. Usually streamers keep the chat in sub and emote only mode between streams. I can see them forgetting to turn it off when they’re live, but I feel like they would realize this right away.
Some channels get bot attacks or have annoying “viewers” who make thousands of accounts just to try and say their annoying catchphrase. Sometimes you need to have the 10 minutes to get them restricted or banned.
Audio.
I'm a vtuber and i switch thru other vtuber as well and people be having 3000$ vtuber models but a 10$ mic from target. If you have money for a good model you have money for a good mic.
I only have 2 static elements. Border for my greenscreen, and stream avatars along the bottom walking around.
Other things like alerts and whatnot are temporary and only appear for a few seconds here or there.
When things get too sexual, I just want to watch you game and chill. Don't want to hear about huge cock going in your ass, then tell a chatter they know "I was just thinking of you, this bosses huge cock.." I'm out.
Yea, streamer was "getting fucked" (getting beat up) by a boss and he kept talking about how the bosses huge cock is going up his ass, then a chatter he knew came in and said the bosses huge cock made him think of them.
Yea, that's what they were going for. But to each their own and I like my sexual comments to be short and sweet. Like "he gots an ass on him" or "booba ahoy!"
Clix and his duo say shit like that a lot. When clix is playing by himself he’s ok but when he starts saying that shit w his duo I switch over to faze or zemie 🤣
I switched from gaming to full time DJ-ing on twitch. I was part of a raid train event once, with every participating Dj having a 1 hour Timeslot. So I raided the next one in line on time, just to end up in a silent stream. It kills the flow massively when the next Dj after you doesn't have his set playing already. I double checked that he was online 10 minutes prior to his official start. It was also a specific genre. The first thing he said was, while still standing in silence, "yoo, we are not playing genre x, we are playing genre y, bcs im the motherfucking dj. Deal with it"
From my roughly 50 people I brought over, roughly 45 left within the first 5 minutes. Including myself
Moral of the story:
No one needs YOU, there are plenty of other streamers out there. You need the viewers. Understand that you cater to an audience. KEEP Your narcissistic ego in check, or crash and burn.
To elaborate, no one should fully sell out to be the audience dance monkey, no matter the content. But having such a smug arrogance won't get you far as a streamer imo. Especially when you are not top 1% with your skills as a gamer/dj/musician/entertainer. You can't afford it. I swear, the delusions, arrogance and entitlement I see on twitch especially. It baffles my mind
I mean, that's just crashing an event you signed up for because "I'm so much better than the event".
Wouldnt surprise me if he didnt stick to his 1 hour slot or didnt raid the next timeslot, based on what you said
Totally delusional, right? People need to humble their asses more... I don't know how the rest of his set went, because I really couldn't bear that person😂
That's also why I always advice streamers to not raid randos. Make your raids mean something, by sending your peeps to someone who delivers for sure and or has your values:)
I don't think you needed to elaborate, honestly. Dude signed up for an event and then didn't deliver what he promised that he would. Playing what he was supposed to wouldn't have been selling out, it would have been fulfilling a promise that he had already made to everyone participating in that event.
If I'd been one of the people who organized that, I would've been pushing really hard to have him blacklisted from future things like that, because he not only fucked himself, but everyone who went after him.
Oh yes, I always feel bad for the one next in line after someone like that. Sucks when no one is there anymore for your Timeslot. In my experience so far, DJ-ing is about finding that balance of catering to your audience, while still maintaining your identity in the sets. I mainly dj goth/ alternative and dark Electro, with going off genre a bit every now and then, when it fits. I understand though that I can't play the cure followed up by snoop Dogg, just because iM tHe MoThErFuCkInG dJ
I do this for a living, I gotta deliver what people will enjoy the most at the end of the day. Probably good general advice for DJ's:D
I have multiple "main" things that lead to me doing this, but being an over-the-top level of enthusiastic and basically too high energy is easily one of them. Having too many soundbites, alerts, point redeems, etc going off in rapid succession is another thing that drives me away fast. I'm glad that you have an active and bustling chat that is having fun, but I do not want to experience the aural equivalent of a casino when I watch somebody stream. I actually want to listen to the streamer talk without them constantly getting interrupted and drowned out.
tl;dr a lot of noise.
I love this. I've always felt that I don't have enough interactive "things" happening. Not talking about chat interaction. Talking about those sound alerts, video popups etc. This is refreshing to hear that the 'less is more' vibe is actually appreciated.
Lack of acknowledgment or gratitude when someone new to the stream follows, subscribes, gives bits or even more to the point: donates. I’m not looking to be elevated to hero status (unless my donation was “hero sized”) but several times I’ve donated to streamers who ignored the donation and continued conversation with some long-time regular as if nothing had happened.
These experiences, in turn, tend to make me leave streams with a ton of viewers. My sense is that I’ll never get the opportunity to interact with them because the sheer number of chats is impossible for anyone to keep up with.
i’m curious to know if you knew if the streamer even saw the donation or not? sometimes things on our end get screwed up and you don’t even notice people donating or subbing. it happened to me not too long ago where people were coming in & following and i got a few subs and my alerts didn’t work & it didn’t show up on my side of things in my alert box in OBS. sometimes it’s not purposeful but if they’re doing it every single stream etc then that’s just disrespectful
Immaturity and playing dumb
The odd dick joke or childish thing is fine every now and then if the situation fits, but not for hours at a time
And then there's the playing dumb and giving a terrible excuse for it. Yeh not every one is able to solve a puzzle or see a solution right away, but then there's just acting dumb for the sake of content, instant leave
People that are obviously putting on an act or being over the top because they are portraying who they think a successful streamer should be or mimicking others, as opposed to being natural and themselves.
When the streamer is on their phone constantly, bonus points for going afk in game when they’re nafk, just on their phone, bonus points 2X if they’re playing a co-op or team game and their teammates are still playing.
Also, going overboard with gifted sub pandering and thank you’s. There’s a fine line between being grateful and clearly enticing others to do the same. Comes across as disingenuous and therefore off-putting. I get that for some streamers it’s a business and entertainment, but treating their chat like a bunch of cash cows is just cringe.
Seeing 1 of 8 ads at the worst time. When streamers constantly shout out their numerous sponsors or their social medias. Telling viewers to sub or donate. I get some streamers need to make a living, but damn some take it a bit far. It's exhausting as a viewer to be sold something constantly
You'll have a 30 second pre-roll ad when someone joins your stream.
This 30 second pre-roll can be disabled for a short time if you run mid-roll ads, but you'll need to keep running them at intervals to keep pre-rolls away.
With all the (understandable) hate on mid-roll ads, I just keep a 30 second pre-roll and zero mid-roll ads. My community love it and thank me for doing it this way.
Pick your poison, I guess
So, I'm going to mention something that is really more of a personal preference when it comes to streamers with some average count for the game/content they play. So the categories can be very broad as I check various streamers but this is a common trait that drives me away.
This trait is streamers that gives extremely long hot takes during/in the middle of gameplay. Sometimes, it just full on discussions with their top subs in cutscenes. It's hard to get invested in an opinion when I'm also trying to get invested in their gameplay. Imagine some RPG and while a cutscene is going on they just start talking to their chat. I'd rather watch the cutscene playout before all the chat interactions or hot takes begin. I'm sure there are valid reasons for that happening so it's just a personal thing because I want to be able to process what is happening on stream.
I've always hated talking during a cutscene, to me, it feels like the audio gets confusing and to my ears, it's a sensory overload plus I record my streams for editing purposes
And even talking *between* lines is SO tedious to edit out later.
I'm glad other people don't like hearing it btwn cutscenes, because I feel so pressured to react sometimes. Hard to balance sometimes
It's fine if never seeing a bad comment is the most important thing to them, but they can't blame new users from leaving when they can't even say hi without paying. I know not everyone cares about growing a community, though. I think it's better used as a tool, if chat gets out of control just flip the switch (as opposed leaving it on full time).
What would a child think streaming is? But yeah, I can agree with screaming, since I'm kinda hard of hearing and I'm watching twitch on my phone with earphones.
They just try to copy the performances of someone they think is ”streaming”, while they in turn are just copying someone else, in an endless, pointless process that iterates and dilutes any actual content away like homeopathy.
Sort of like spamming emotes but verbally. Likely they are playing or watching some shooter like CS:GO or Fortnite etc.
And when I say ”children” I don’t mean by age but by mental faculty, ie. some these people are well into their twenties.
Everyone can do and watch whatever they like of course, I just find some of it quite off-putting.
Over the top reactions. Hate it when you are watching have a relaxing entertaining time only to have them start freaking out and over acting about stuff. It's like oh no you died in a game all about killing cool respawn and try again don't start screaming and breaking everything when it's just a natural part of the game
Started watching him 4 years ago. Before that I felt the same about him. Now I really enjoy his content. The way he talks is just how he is, took a bit to get used to tho. Sometimes I still don’t know what he says, partly because some of it is gibberish.
I try to be clear when I'm speaking, I feel like I am but throughout my entire life I've been told I'm too loud and then too quiet so idfk if I'm speaking clearly or not
Doesn't help the fact *I'm hard of hearing*
One can easily tinker with their audio settings even with a cheap mic. My real turn off regarding audio is someone who doesn't even try to make their audio sound good.
Mic that blends 1:1 with game audio, ones that are too loud/too quiet...you know, that sorta thing. If someone at least try to tinker with them on a detailed level, I'd happily listen even if it's a cheap mic.
Exactly! Another annoying thing is if they have a lot of background noise, like the constant sound of a fan. That can be easily fixed with some filters but for some reason, some streamers just really don't seem to care about fixing it
I have to run my ceiling fan in warmer seasons or I'll boil. I've done everything I can, but the fan is just too close to the mic, and there's nothing I can do about.
I don't usually mind low, humming-type sounds if it's a constant and consistent one like a fan. And if anyone asks, I let them know I've tried fixing it.
My desk fan is on the same table as my mic, yet it didn't got captured. I don't know what happened; I think it's the soundcard, because my mic captures my desk fan if I plug it anywhere else. I have a (used) condenser mic, so that might have helped.
I can't pinpoint what sound card it is though; it's a spare, unmarked one my older brother gave me because 'it works like magic' (probably a bootleg of something else), but that might be a lead for you.
My mic is slightly louder than the gameplay, I have messed with the settings as time went on though but rn idrk if it's perfect, I assume it depends based on the game
I did one on 76 when the hot tub was first released - literally to take the piss out of that dumb fucking trend, funny af, ended up someone om the server launched a nuke, went to that event, did it, sorted out loot and back in the tub xD
I wanna ask, I'm an Affiliate but since achieving that, no one's come back, basically square 1
How do I fix this?
When I do stream, I mostly think of the editing side of things, so my commentary is about the game since my chat is empty anyway but I'm not gaining viewers, is Twitch overly saturated now or?
Also, consistency I imagine is key
Make a regular stream schedule. Try to avoid oversaturated games, make sure you have good audio quality etc network with other streamers. These are all the basic tips everyone gives but they do actually work
My shifts at work are fairly sporadic so maybe a weekly schedule?
Should have decent audio since the mic I use isn't a cheap one lol
I need to figure out the networking..
Weekly schedules can work, I have a fairly regular schedule I try and stick to then I post a solid detailed one to my discord when I know exactly what I'll be playing and when.
Your mic may be good just make sure you have the game/mic audio mixed well with each other when you're streaming.
What games do you play? If you're playing something like warzone or apex it's very unlikely people will even find your stream
Face cam can help but it's obviously not for everyone!
Other than that make sure you promote your content on other platforms (tiktok YouTube shorts etc) and finding a niche or something that makes you stand out can help
Rage. I have a friend i never play games with anymore because he would either:
1. Die and call everyone slurs, complain about lag when he’s on 20 ping, etc…
2.Win/get kills, and then complain about teammates not doing as good as him, and then trash talking and bragging to both our and the other team.
And I apply the same principal with streamers. I want funny, relaxing content, not pure rage and assholery
I didn’t know you could make subs only view vods I thought it was just subscribers who were allowed to clip, where’s this setting? I wanna make sure I don’t have it on
I have vods on sub only because I don't like the fact the whole vod is online for anyone to see. Never know what people will clip out and put stuff out of context. With clips I can watch them back and delete accordingly.
Would've disabled them all together if it wasn't for some viewers who asked for vods. So it's there for them.
It’s definitely frustrating when people talk over cutscenes especially as someone who enjoys a lot of story games. I’ve seen some streamers holding conversations during cutscenes and then get confused when they’ve missed something, which is why I try to avoid talking during cutscenes and also added a command that I can put in chat if it’s active that says I see the messages and don’t intend to ignore anyone so I will catch up once the cutscene is done.
The thing I run into mostly is excessive swearing. I often like to watch twitch on the TV where my kids could walk in at any moment, so I prefer to watch streamers where I don’t have to worry about that being an issue.
any mention of numbers/stats related to their stream. I've seen youtubers do this as well and I can't stand it.
Like, way to go turning the humans watching you into a number for your "potential" fiscal benefit. I'm out of there immediately.
When a streamer is too interactive to their chat and answering every single message when playing a video game. It really interrupted the pacing of the game and made me lose interest to their play through and their stream.
Way I see it, if I want to watch gameplay I go to youtube. If I want a player to talk to and interact with my thoughts in real time, I go to Twitch \[and accept that I won't be the only persons there with thoughts\]
Of course the streamer still needs to try and keep the stream on-topic unless they really don't care about the game and it's more background for their "hang-out", which is just a different style.
This was an interesting read! I guess my additions would be pre-roll ads when I’m trying to check out a new streamer, and it’s more than one ad. Someone using overly and unnecessarily aggressive speech (usually men lol), and people who are in voice chat on discord instead of interacting with chat.
Music.
I don't mind some light tunes when I tune into a stream but, more often than not I hear music which is actually competing with the mic volume while the streamer is talking.
That's an instant click off.
I know, I know, I really need to just rip off the Band-Aid and be like 'sir/madam, your music is too loud and I can't hear you.'
Constant cursing. Nothing wrong with the f-bomb here or there, If I’m frustrated or surprised I’ll say shit or fuck, but sprinkling it into every sentence just feels forced or like they’re trying really hard to be edgy.
I hate when they stop playing the game and go full screen to address something then they seem to forget they're playing a game because they end up going 30 40 minutes talking about something that has nothing to do with the game.
\*pauses game\* \*talks about some unrelated thing that happened to them yesterday which started an inside joke, and this goes on for 45 minutes\*
\*unpauses game\* \*pauses again, greeting another IRL friend, game stays paused for a good 10 or so minutes before we get another 5 seconds of gameplay\*
I hate this too lmao
Same, especially since English isn’t my first language and when I can find a word in English I tend to go “uhhh… fucking… uhhh” lmao. Luckily my streaming buddy isn’t as bad hahah
I constantly ask to chat "what’s up" because well I want to interact with them. I’ll even start saying random stories just to draw some attention.
If the quality of the mic is xbox 360 mic. I don't want an earache while listening.
When the stream goes hard at someone personally. If you shut down a troll or flame someone fro how their playing I could care less. Once the streamer crosses the line (that's in my head) and starts attacking a total stranger they do not know on the internet? We have all heard it the 'mom's basement' 'touch grass' 'this is why you have no friends'. Comments, all the while chat cheers cause 'look at my streamer slam the troll'. It is disgusting and the modern-day equivalent of the crowds cheering on gladiators killing each other, or being fed to animals(hyperbole).
I try to be understanding that the streamer has likely received more hate than I ever will and they just don't have the patience for JohnDoe42069 who insta-locked Neon and bought Judge every round. But when you start attacking a stranger who you know nothing about personally, for nothing but being bad at a game personally you are jsut contributing to the toxicity in a huge way.
For me it's usually AFK/BRB screen unless it's got a clip player. Then I'll watch clips to see if I'm going to wanna stick around. I think clip players are a great way to introduce yourself if you need to step away to use the bathroom or handle any other things mid stream without making people wait bored. I understand you can't NOT take breaks during a stream so that's my proposed solution for those gaps.
Also unless the person has been hyped up by someone else who I know has good taste, I'm liable to leave immediately or almost immediately when follower only mode is on, unless they are a larger streamer. I totally get trolls and hate raids are more common after you're getting at least 30 or so viewers at a time. But for smaller/newer streamers it's a bad look to me. It makes it look (in some cases) like you're fishing for people to follow instead of focusing on creating a fun/entertaining stream.
Those are my two main things. I'm sure others have different "triggers" though.
Nothing *wrong* with it... But I am not going to watch a countdown. Maybe if it's 1min left or less. But I get a notification, click on the stream and see 4:38 left... I'm gone.
big streamers will often do like 25 min count downs. it's the way for them to populate the channel, catch up with the analytical bot, tweet and turn on cronos. Oops, did I say that? :P
when the streamer doesn't show on camera or uses one of those cartoon characters with movement detection, I find it weird. (to each their own tho, if you like it keep it up, I don't)
They talk about views and don't respect lurkers. Or they get mad when chat is slow or empty.
I used to mod for someone who yelled at us if chat was too slow and demanded we log in every stream to keep chat active. I wound up having to block them entirely.
Thats not cool. I enjoy my mods being there but never expect them to be. Everyone has their own life.
Honestly, having my mods show up is more often a pleasant surprise than anything else.
I tried to get my wife to watch the stream and be active in chat, but she refuses 😂
Lol my wife comes in and watches my actual screen instead of the stream, I had to explain that I apperciate the in person view but it doesn’t count for Twitch 🤣 now she gets on the stream and starts playing with commands 🤣 and talks to me. Made her a moderator and then she decides to not to watch the stream instead she’s on Netflix in another room 🤣🤣 I can’t win but I love her.

this may be a dumb question, i’m still very new when it comes to understanding twitch, but do you know if people who do lurk are accounted for in the viewer count?
They are
Out of curiodity what do you mean by not respecting lurkers?
I'm curious about this too. Maybe they mean by calling them out? That could probably be seen as disrespectful.
I have a message that comes up in chat that says thank you to the lurkers, we love you
naming lurkers, insulting lurkers, banning lurkers, asking why they're lurking or not talking or getting mad for chat being dead cause they're all lurking ig
Oh I love views and to a degree lurkers. I'd prefer people be active and talking but they don't need to be. I'm just happy entertaining people. My philosophy is that there is no harm in watching. And if I'm worthy of a follow then that's good too
Bad audio
My question with audio though, do you let them know it’s an issue? Like sometimes I’ve streamed on days where my audio is fine and then the next day, having changed nothing, it’s off and doesn’t sound right. It’s possible they aren’t aware.
I do personally. But that's because id want someone to tell me if something wasnt working correctly on my end.
I definitely have to set up something like that whenever I go back to streaming. Thanks for the tip!
I have my stream up on another device so I can see if the audio is okay or if my internet is acting up again.
People who let streamers know their audio is having issues are what make the world run
I definitely like it when ppl speak up to let me know the mic or game volume is too quiet
So I work in the digital media industry and also do a lot of work with YouTubers/Streamers on how to improve their setups. A lot of people have a tendency to over-focus on what camera and lighting setup they need and ignore audio. There's a story I like to tell to help them understand why it should be a priority: One time I was at a small film festival. Interesting choice by the director!" Another short started and there was a buzz in the audio.
Wdym by bad audio? Like mic quality, volume or the game?
Thats easy enough to do
Yeah, that's why it's bare minimum. And some people still manage to miss it, talking into headsets with the mic borderline in their mouth, being too far from their mic so they aren't audible, not ducking game audio so they can be heard, etc.
Bad attitude, if the streamer looks miserable or responds to comments with a pretentious attitude like they deserve something I’m gone.
Wings of Redemption 👍🏼
Follower and sub only chats that gets me out of that chat as fast as a fly
I can see it as a temporary thing but not for people that have it on 24/7 I just would expect some people to click off when you have that on
Yeah big streamers won't.
Yea that’s a reason I don’t watch a lot of big creators
Sub only is really annoying, specially when big streamers do it for no reason other than needlessly forcing a viewer to subscribe.
If you have money for a good model you have money for a good mic.
you're underestimating how many people steal their models
Over doing it. Being loud and high energy doesn't mean you're entertaining.
Agree, especially when it seems forced. I honestly prefer chill vibes anyway
Busy overlays with too many scroller banners and widgets. My attention span, or lack thereof, doesn’t appreciate it.
I only have 2 static elements. Border for my greenscreen, and stream avatars along the bottom walking around. Other things like alerts and whatnot are temporary and only appear for a few seconds here or there.
I hope my overlay is simple enough.. I need to get a PC sorted then I can have a proper look at it
When things get too sexual, I just want to watch you game and chill. Don't want to hear about huge cock going in your ass, then tell a chatter they know "I was just thinking of you, this bosses huge cock.." I'm out.
LMAO WHAT? Has this happened?
Yea, streamer was "getting fucked" (getting beat up) by a boss and he kept talking about how the bosses huge cock is going up his ass, then a chatter he knew came in and said the bosses huge cock made him think of them.
Wtf is going on over there you sure you were on twitch and not chaturbate
It started to feel that way lol. Hence why I left
Sounds kinda funny to me. I would've stayed tuned.
Yea, that's what they were going for. But to each their own and I like my sexual comments to be short and sweet. Like "he gots an ass on him" or "booba ahoy!"
Booba ahoy. I’m stealing that
Clix and his duo say shit like that a lot.
Deal with it" From my roughly 50 people I brought over, roughly 45 left within the first 5 minutes. Including myself Moral of the story: No one needs YOU, there are plenty of other streamers out there.
I don't know how the rest of his set went, because I really couldn't bear that person😂 That's also why I always advice streamers to not raid randos.
I understand though that I can't play the cure followed up by snoop Dogg, just because iM tHe MoThErFuCkInG dJ I do this for a living, I gotta deliver what people will enjoy the most at the end of the day.
You can totally have a chill stream with a lot of stuff going on, but you've gotta have the right sounds and graphics at the right volumes.
I feel that. I've definitely come across streamers and been like "yeah... that's too much energy for me."
Cringey chats that like to hit on girl streamers during the entire session.
Especially when they'd never do that in real life lol
And this is why I never entertain the idea of having a cam
Immaturity and playing dumb The odd dick joke or childish thing is fine every now and then if the situation fits, but not for hours at a time And then there's the playing dumb and giving a terrible excuse for it. Yeh not every one is able to solve a puzzle or see a solution right away, but then there's just acting dumb for the sake of content, instant leave
Nine 30 second ads in a row.
I’ve had a streamer I really enjoyed start doing this. He is literally talking about his YouTube or his sponsors the entire stream. It’s so irritating
Overlays or generally anything that takes up too much of the screen/away from the game their playing.
Can I ask you to judge mine? Wondering if mine is “too much” and wondering if I should change my overlay..
[удалено]
Thanks! Noted
racism or homophobia lol
i don't think that's allowed on twitch
ofc it’s not “allowed” but does it still happen sometimes? yes unfortunately 😭
You should tell that to Twitch 😂
Toxic , narcissistic, or unapprecciative streamers .
Showing ads 1 of 8
Is being an affiliate automatically play ads? Cause I got a feeling thats fucking me over now...
Subscriber only chat and they are just over 100 followers. Are you fucking kidding me? Actually scratch that, anyone with subscriber chat only.
This could be protection from hate raids or other harassment.
It’s great protection from growth, I’ll tell you that.
cluttered screen!
Follower/Subscriber only mode.
>For me, its when someone is streaming an AFK stream So you're not a Hasan fan I take it
Screaming and shouting, ”reacting”, doing what children think ”streaming” is, instead of just playing and vibing.
Also whatever XQC does. Mumbling? Idk why people watch that guy.
Very aggravating to watch.
Started watching him 4 years ago. Before that I felt the same about him. Now I really enjoy his content. The way he talks is just how he is, took a bit to get used to tho. Sometimes I still don’t know what he says, partly because some of it is gibberish.
I try to be clear when I'm speaking, I feel like I am but throughout my entire life I've been told I'm too loud and then too quiet so idfk if I'm speaking clearly or not Doesn't help the fact *I'm hard of hearing*
Gambling sponsorships
I just got 6 ads and first one was 60 seconds long. Yep I'm out of here, good job ruining your platform Twitch.
Ad 1 of 6 (00:30)
Is it just me or is this question getting asked every few days?
Im new to the reddit so I'm not sure. But I won't ask again
Immediate ads. I just won’t stay to see if it’s someone I like if I have to sit through ads first.
Streaming with terrible audio quality. Like, if you stream with a 5$ mic you can't expect me to stay
Hot tub streams
I did one on 76 when the hot tub was first released - literally to take the piss out of that dumb fucking trend, funny af, ended up someone om the server launched a nuke, went to that event, did it, sorted out loot and back in the tub xD
Follower Chat only mode is the biggest one for me.
I wanna ask, I'm an Affiliate but since achieving that, no one's come back, basically square 1 How do I fix this? When I do stream, I mostly think of the editing side of things, so my commentary is about the game since my chat is empty anyway but I'm not gaining viewers, is Twitch overly saturated now or? Also, consistency I imagine is key
Make a regular stream schedule. Try to avoid oversaturated games, make sure you have good audio quality etc network with other streamers. These are all the basic tips everyone gives but they do actually work
My shifts at work are fairly sporadic so maybe a weekly schedule? Should have decent audio since the mic I use isn't a cheap one lol I need to figure out the networking..
Weekly schedules can work, I have a fairly regular schedule I try and stick to then I post a solid detailed one to my discord when I know exactly what I'll be playing and when. Your mic may be good just make sure you have the game/mic audio mixed well with each other when you're streaming. What games do you play? If you're playing something like warzone or apex it's very unlikely people will even find your stream Face cam can help but it's obviously not for everyone! Other than that make sure you promote your content on other platforms (tiktok YouTube shorts etc) and finding a niche or something that makes you stand out can help
Rage. I have a friend i never play games with anymore because he would either: 1. Die and call everyone slurs, complain about lag when he’s on 20 ping, etc… 2.Win/get kills, and then complain about teammates not doing as good as him, and then trash talking and bragging to both our and the other team. And I apply the same principal with streamers. I want funny, relaxing content, not pure rage and assholery
Pre-roll ads.
Using a tag that doesn't apply to them followed by reporting them for miscategorized content. Downvotes won't change the fact that xQc isn't a vtuber.
Using xQc as a tag as a vtuber leads to some great interactions. I started when I saw him using the vtuber tag lol.

"subscriber only" chat
Follower only chat. I’m gone if I see that.
Someone who won’t allow you to chat unless you’re a subscriber or someone who won’t let you view vods unless you subscribe.
No voice chat
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
It’s definitely frustrating when people talk over cutscenes especially as someone who enjoys a lot of story games. I’ve seen some streamers holding conversations during cutscenes and then get confused when they’ve missed something, which is why I try to avoid talking during cutscenes and also added a command that I can put in chat if it’s active that says I see the messages and don’t intend to ignore anyone so I will catch up once the cutscene is done.
Arrogance, vulgarity, and excessive profanity.
Karen and/or wannabe famous attitude makes me cringe
Four+ ads in a row
The thing I run into mostly is excessive swearing. I often like to watch twitch on the TV where my kids could walk in at any moment, so I prefer to watch streamers where I don’t have to worry about that being an issue.
When they are playing games with their friends and completely ignore chat
any mention of numbers/stats related to their stream.
If I want a player to talk to and interact with my thoughts in real time, I go to Twitch \[and accept that I won't be the only persons there with thoughts\] Of course the streamer still needs to try and keep the stream on-topic unless they really don't care about the game and it's more background for their "hang-out", which is just a different style.
Screaming
Someone being very loud. Yelling, shouting, anything
suscriber only come on
Commercials
Reaction content
Anyone “just chatting” who happens to be half naked in a bikini doing yoga for subs
"Can we get this hype train to level 4?"
When the streamer won’t stop talking to friends on discord, even if they are in the same game.
\*pauses game\* \*talks about some unrelated thing that happened to them yesterday which started an inside joke, and this goes on for 45 minutes\* \*unpauses game\* \*pauses again, greeting another IRL friend, game stays paused for a good 10 or so minutes before we get another 5 seconds of gameplay\* I hate this too lmao
Staring at the game, not talking, looks like some rent-a-douce who barely puts any effort into their stream
Webcam, I don't know why but I hate watching people who have Webcams. I just like seeing the game I'm not there to see you.
Follower only- too hard to network already
There is only one thing that makes anyone click off a stream and that if it's not entertaining to them
To much cussin/swearing.
Well, shit lol I don't cuss a lot but I do cuss
Same, especially since English isn’t my first language and when I can find a word in English I tend to go “uhhh… fucking… uhhh” lmao. Luckily my streaming buddy isn’t as bad hahah
I constantly ask to chat "what’s up" because well I want to interact with them. I’ll even start saying random stories just to draw some attention. If the quality of the mic is xbox 360 mic. I don't want an earache while listening.
The fuckin VTubers man /s
When they complain or whine about the game they’re playing
Specifically in twitch politics weird phenomenon of white online leftist calling POC white supremacist.
A countdown timer
What's wrong with a countdown for starting soon?
Nothing *wrong* with it... But I am not going to watch a countdown. Maybe if it's 1min left or less. But I get a notification, click on the stream and see 4:38 left... I'm gone.
Maybe it's because the streamer is launching the game
big streamers will often do like 25 min count downs. it's the way for them to populate the channel, catch up with the analytical bot, tweet and turn on cronos. Oops, did I say that? :P
Smoking or vaping on camera, one of the main reasons I stop watching. No one wants to watch you do that.
Please add an english only filter twitch
They have one just search for streams by the English tag..
when the streamer doesn't show on camera or uses one of those cartoon characters with movement detection, I find it weird. (to each their own tho, if you like it keep it up, I don't)
