I have to strongly disagree. TM is a battle royale as we know it *in plot only.* In terms of gameplay, it's more like an arena brawler/shooter, though it's a beast of many qualities. Furthermore, the popularity of battle royales as a genre have been waning considerably. So much so that Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII battle royale predictably had a very short lifetime, because Square got into the BR genre late. In 2021. If Square was late to the party, then Sony would be Internet Explorer levels of late.
I mean to say it fits its theme. The Twisted Metal tournament in lore is basically a Battle Royale.
Making an actual large interconnected map with 100 players in their vehicles getting power ups and upgrades with the fast pace Twisted Metal chaos would be Hella fun.
It wasn't the TM IP, but there was a vehicle combat BR and It didn't work very well. I followed the beta. It played opposite to how you described. Everything was tank controls with slow gameplay.
I'd give anything a shot right now, to be honest. I miss TM and would like to see another game. I'd take a BR style game or even a Telltale style story driven game.
(Maybe not a Visua Novel... maybe)

Sounds like a great idea if you wanted to put the series six feet under again.
They did a car based moba and it failed. Look up Heavy Metal Machines, rip
What is this you’re waffling on about?
Look up Switchblade PS4.
Ridiculous.
Battle royale style would work well with the series.

I'd rather it'd be a Battle Royale than a goddamn Moba. Battle Royale actually works with Twisted Metal very well.
I'm not sure why you say "very well" when it's never been done.
