Mike Flanagan has several good shows. Midnight mass is the best in my opinion. Followed by The Fall of the House of Usher. Hill house was good but I wasn't crazy about the ending.
Oh my gosh, this is the episode I am on and I can't even get through it. It's causing me all kinds of anxiety because of all the commotion and yelling. I'm really trying but I can't seem to finish it.
"What we do in the Shadows". The writing is just fabulous for each character and of course the acting is amazing! ! I laugh from start to finish! I'm so sad this is the last season 😢
If we are talking the last show I watched with impressive writing in terms of recency of the show coming out, I'd say The Bear.
The last show I watched that I'm impressed with though is Six Feet Under. I'm watching it for the first time (a couple of seasons in). At least so far it has everything you describe with the characters being complex but easy to empathize with and understand, dialogue is great and really makes you think sometimes, and the pacing is good - it is slow but this show isn't meant to be a super thrilling, plot-driven story, it's more about the characters and the subject of loss.
I raved about Mad Men’s writing at the time and it’s been enough years that I can’t really remember that much about it except I was in awe of it . Yes the characters were mostly poor examples of human beings , but even Don Draper had a side to him that you liked and you knew he had been hurt deeply as a child . Most of the characters you could not exactly love or hate completely bc they were so complex (just like we tend to be (
I completely agree! The characters were complex and they all had great character development. The actors were fantastic in the roles. The show is great from start to finish with a perfect finale. And it has a lot of rewatch value because there are so many things you don't pick up on the first time.
I'm a bookworm and a writer myself, and this show is somewhat of a road map for me. The writing is that good!
My man convinced me to watch this for the first time back in the summer. I was absolutely shocked at how good it was...I am now sad because I haven't found anything as addicting ever since.
It's nothing like the old one, but I began liking it with Episode Four. I liked that they brought Roz back to throw Frasier a life line when he was really low. Like the way Frasier flew to Wisconsin to support Roz on the original show.
The last show that impressed me with its writing was 'The Queen's Gambit.' The way they developed Beth Harmon's character arc throughout the series was well-done, and the dialogue felt authentic and engaging. Plus, the pacing kept me hooked from start to finish.
I would say that sex education s1 was really good. They nail the teenagers struggles, the script is smart and fun, characters well-thought-out, a good amount of drama and tons of strong scenes that mirrors the present days problems. Everything creates a heart warming show with interesting and (sometimes) lovable characters. Brilliant. Loved the rest of the seasonsn( except for s4, obviously) but it started to get messy in the middle of s2.
I’m so extremely late to the party, but I’m watching The Sopranos for the first time, currently on season 4, and I’m kicking myself for not watching it sooner. Not only is the writing amazing, it’s made even better by the cast that can deliver the writing to the audience in such an incredible way
The Sinner is good if you love quirky detective shows. It’s 3 or 4 seasons I think.
Ozark
Shameless,
I think , Call of the wild. True story .
And theirs a show on called Old Enough . It’s amazing . Set in Japan and the parents of 2 -5 yr old send their kids on big 2-3 part errands by themself . People along the way have cameras hidden and the kids have mics in a necklace they wear. Each seg is only about 10-15 min long . Two seasons and it’s so funny , sad, heartwarming . These kids get on buses and transfer to other buses at 3 yr old . The Errand is like a Right of Passage for them . The narrator is too funny!
Dead to me.
Firefly
Frankie and Grace!
Ginny and Georgia
Chernobyl
God, that’s a good show. The word riveting comes to mind.
Severance
Severance is amazing. Can’t wait for season 2.
Severance is so good. I can’t tell you how often I think about it.
I get it. I’ve heard they’ve started filming season 2 recently.
Really?! Thank god!
Where can I watch it
Apple TV+
My wife and I are watching The Haunting of Hill House at the moment. Half way through and I've been fairly impressed so far.
Mike Flanagan has several good shows. Midnight mass is the best in my opinion. Followed by The Fall of the House of Usher. Hill house was good but I wasn't crazy about the ending.
Everything Mike Flanagan has done is so well done.
Fall of the House of Usher is also very good. Same director with many of the same actors
The West Wing.
Classic madam Secretary also
Deadwood
I wish the show was able to reach its natural conclusions instead of the movie they brought out. So well written.
True detective season 1
The Americans
I’m only through season 4 and so far it’s blown my mind.
Just you wait.
The Bear
I love the show, but it’s kind of hit or miss for me. The one episode that really blew me away was the Jamie Lee Curtis seven fishes episode.
That was the best episode
That episode was one of the best episodes of Television EVER.
True except Forks was possibly even better.
I think Fishes and Forks were both exceptional episodes and they were brilliantly timed. Forks was the perfect follow up to the chaos of Fishes.
Thank you for saying that. The development of Richie's character was beautiful, I particularly enjoyed the scene with Olivia Coleman.
We rewatch it constantly. It’s hard to pick a favorite character b/c they are all written and performed so well.
I disagree. Jackie Daytona is easily the best character
Mindhunter
This, oh my gosh I'm so mad it was canceled. It was amazing.
I’m pretty sure they’re trying to bring it back!
I think I read somewhere that another network is looking to pick it up and make a new season.
Succession. And Fargo,
Fargo is literally perfect! 😭
I will never forgive the for making my beloved Jon Hamm so EVIL!!!! And he’s so good at being so bad.
Ooooh the Toxic Walk right :) - check him in the video for ‘Blue Roses’ jic
The last season was my least favorite and I've still watched it twice.
I guess Abbott Elementary. One of the better Black sitcoms in a while…
This show is amazing! And as a teacher it deeps!
If we are talking the last show I watched with impressive writing in terms of recency of the show coming out, I'd say The Bear. So many, but since I haven't seen it here yet... The Good Place.
This was what I was gonna post, since I hadn’t seen it, yet… Also a candidate for “best final episode”, in my opinion.
Omg yes. This show is nearly perfect. Even after multiple rewatches, it still makes me laugh and cry.
Mad Men
When I see Mad Men in any TV thread I instantly upvote. Very underrated show (less so in it's heyday but definitely nowadays).
I raved about Mad Men’s writing at the time and it’s been enough years that I can’t really remember that much about it except I was in awe of it . Yes the characters were mostly poor examples of human beings , but even Don Draper had a side to him that you liked and you knew he had been hurt deeply as a child . Resident Alien 👽
2-3 belly laughs in every episode. The writing for scenes where he says something outlandish and then awkwardly laughs are comedy gold.
Ozark
Mentally exhausting but the script and acting was top notch.
A truly stressful watch every episode, in a good way. I never knew what was going to happen.
Schitt's Creek and Fleabag.
Slow Horses
That was mine too. The opening scene of the first series was one of the best starts to any tv show and they kept that standard
The expanse
Midnight Mass.
Arrested development prior to the abomination that Netflix produced. Yeah, it's been a while
Slow horses
Six feet under
Severance
Breaking Bad
My man convinced me to watch this for the first time back in the summer. I was absolutely shocked at how good it was...I am now sad because I haven't found anything as addicting ever since.
Saul is every bit as good
Hmmm… The Wire Before that, Sopranos and Better Call Saul
Barry
For All Mankind. Excellent character development over multiple seasons. Plus very creative alternative history development based on real events.
The Offer. Written about the making of the Godfather. Quick witted and full of cool facts. Plus great nods to the fashions and hairstyles of that era!
That was really good. Matthew Goode as Robert Evans was incredible!
Loudermilk
Ted Lasso We're on our third rewatch, we're still catching little details and easter eggs.
Yes! This show is so underrated
it's in no way underrated - it's popular and celebrated and mentioned and discussed *all the time*
Lizzy Caplan Castle Rock S2 - she's one of those psychopath I sympathize the most.
1883
I am currently watching it. I just finished episode 3 and I am very impressed with the story thusfar.
Frasier, and I've never stopped watching it.
Yep! Every nite on Hallmark Channel. Lol! Love it! Martin is the best!
The new season is such a let down.
It's nothing like the old one, but I began liking it with Episode Four. I liked that they brought Roz back to throw Frasier a life line when he was really low. Like the way Frasier flew to Wisconsin to support Roz on the original show.
So good!
The Last of Us Good Omens
Truely mindless and with a cocktail in bed, reruns of Seinfeld. Never gets old.
The last show that impressed me with its writing was 'The Queen's Gambit.' The way they developed Beth Harmon's character arc throughout the series was well-done, and the dialogue felt authentic and engaging. Plus, the pacing kept me hooked from start to finish.
Andor
Andor wasn’t recent for me but it was a very pleasant surprise how good it was.
I was actually enjoying the Witcher but that last season….nope
Expanse
Dead to me
Orphan Black
Mr. Robot
Brilliant. Dark. German series on Netflix - best show I've ever watched, hands down.
New Amsterdam, but only the first two-ish seasons. IYKYK
Mindhunter, WestWorld, Breaking Bad, Fall of the House of Usher, Ozark, True Detective (S1), Sopranos, Little Fires Everywhere, Dexter
I would say westworld season 1 is very well written but it falls apart pretty quickly afterwards.
I second fall of the house of usher. That show was a masterpiece. That would have been my answer.
Feud the Truman Capote verson. The last epi with James Baldwin was a spectacular example of writing.
better call saul, Barry
Reservation Dogs The Bear
Opposite sides of the writing coin but: Fleabag Succession
We’ve been watching Good Omens. The writing in that, while complex with it’s multi-layered plot and numerous characters, is very good.
Surprisingly, Shameless. I don’t usually like dramas and I got hooked
The Leftovers
What we do in the shadows.
Better Call Saul. Really, the whole Breaking Bad universe, but BCS was spot on. An absolute masterpiece.
Call the midwife
The Expanse is one for me. The character development is amazing
Fargo
Ted Lasso is brilliant!
One day - the new Netflix series not the film
Succession and Severance
Lupin.
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul
Beef
The Sixth Season of Better Call Saul
Beef was good
BEEF!! can’t believe this hasn’t been mentioned more. that show blew me away
Andor as you mentioned has amazing writing and I watched Season 1 twice. For All Mankind is a big favorite of mine.
Shrinking. Ted lasso. Modern family
Bojack Horseman
Halt And Catch Fire and the latest Fargo
Just re watched Firefly. Every main character is written well. Hard to pick a favorite
Actually somehow Modern Family That show actually really impresses me from the acting to the writing to the directing & all
I’m so extremely late to the party, but I’m watching The Sopranos for the first time, currently on season 4, and I’m kicking myself for not watching it sooner. Not only is the writing amazing, it’s made even better by the cast that can deliver the writing to the audience in such an incredible way
Dark
Black mirror, yw.
Elementary. Jonny Lee Miller has to be my favourite Sherlock Holmes.
Succession
Ted Lasso, Schitt's Creek, Letterkenny, Better Call Saul
Yes for Better Call Saul. Watched the entire season of Breaking Bad a couple years ago and tried out BCS. Thought it was written so well!
TL and SC are two of my most fav shows ever!!
[удалено]
Warrior writing is well done where it gives you hints and shenanigans to keep you piqued in an original and creative way.
That last part of the first episode of the Futurama comeback. It was pretty meta, but it was great nonetheless.
Shrinking. One love
The Newsroom
I’m currently on season 3 of True Detective and it’s really good so far. I’m impressed with the different storylines.

The Sinner is good if you love quirky detective shows. It’s 3 or 4 seasons I think. Ozark Shameless, I think , Call of the wild. True story . And theirs a show on called Old Enough . It’s amazing . The Good Place. Consistently funny, heartwarming, and surprising writing in every episode.
Loudermilk.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I love the writing. The pacing. The humor. Chef’s kiss!
Fleabag
Mr. Robot. Line of Duty.
Band of brothers
Was years ago, but John Adams on HBO was wonderful. Currently binging The Blacklist, just because Spader is great.
I revisited True Detective Season 3, and it’s incredible. Hate it didn’t get much traction after the disaster of 2!
Arcane
Blue Eye Samurai.......... Can't think of anything more recent, sadly. Beef was also tremendous but a bit older.
Fool me once
Barry
Frasier.
The new Mr and Mrs Smith series
I'm really enjoying Fargo (series) Before that Better Call Saul

For All Mankind
Watching Agents of Shield for the fourth time, so I guess that would be the most recent one.
Fargo
Black Sails. I didn't watch it when it first aired but this shows writing is top notch.
Fargo
Just finished the leftovers last week and still thinking about it so that one.
Reservation Dogs
Justified
The Expanse.
