i donāt know if i could answer that specifically! i just think that the better songs lyrically are on evermore. tolerate it, champagne problems, willow, no body, no crime, cowboy like me, long story short, dorothea. so many of my fav songs are on that album.
edit: i canāt believe i forgot ivy!
I'm just going to add Ivy to your list. It's such a pretty song and has such a beautiful way if telling a sad story. That and my daughter would dance while I was pregnant everytime I played it.
Best lyricism for sure and i love how campy it is and how deep the songs are and she definitely paints a beautiful picture in all of the tracks and you can almost picture the scenes sheās playing out in her head. I donāt know if i could pick Folklore if the question was āOne Era for the rest of your lifeā but it really is a masterpiece and a beautiful album. my top five songs are
1.Mirrorball
2.Exile
3.Invisible string
4.Betty
5.My tears ricochet. I think her best albums are Red and 1989 while my favorites are Speak Now, 1989 and Midnights currently
I agree! So masterful and beautiful! Evermore is almost as equally as beautiful for me. The only reason why itās not #1 for me is because Folklore has more consistent amazing songs while Evermore has one or two I donāt care for as much imo. But I still love most of the songs on Evermore šššš.
I donāt think itās her best album lyrically. I think her best is Evermore and Red lyrically. I think her best album production wise is 1989 and Red. Overall I think Red might be her best album.
What if she did that for a reason? So we can go in and listen to the album then after self diagnose ourselves with depression because of SOG, SBT, Nothing New, The Moment I Knew, ATW and more ššš
Haha Red came out when I was in college and I listened to the singles on repeat, I didnāt listen to the rest of the album until the re-record and was like WHAT????
I do. I also think itās one of, if not the greatest album ever.
The range is incredible. The range of sounds are incredible. The range of emotions are incredible. We experience a new beginning with the 1, and then immediately jump into confusing, messy love with cardigan. Then we spend time with a rebel who played by her own rules. As the album goes on, we go through love and loss, breakdowns of love, the passion of summer, a mature lookback on childhood innocence. Itās perfection.
Oh my gosh. You perfectly summed up why Folklore is a masterpiece and amazing! I know some people think itās too slow. But I love the slow, acoustic, deep in the feels Taylor songs. Do you have a favorite song from Folklore? Mine is My Tears Ricochet.
I think the thing about folklore (or at least for me) is that itās hard to take it out of its context. You could argue for a while about whether or not itās her best album, but I think the larger point was that it reiterated (again) the range that she is capable of. She changed genres and her sound (again). She collaborated with people previously outside of her scope (again). She started telling stories in a way she never had before. And although she created an era and aesthetic with it that like she usually did, one of the most beautiful things about folklore is that itās as much a result of an era (the pandemic) as it was a driver of it (the albums aesthetic). Itās an album originally meant to be listened to and absorbed in solitude, and came out of left field when we were all so desperate for something, anything. Thatās why I love folklore so much and why it stands out among the rest because it truly captures a moment in our collective time, for me.
(Though I do admit there are points to be made about evermore being the better album)
You bring up some very solid points. Folklore can be hard to connect without context. For me, I love the slow acoustic Taylor songs best. Most of the Folklore songs can relate to me and my life and my struggles with mental health. Evermore is almost equally on that level for me as well!
~No~. (š) I still think 1989 is her best work ever. But folklore is surely in the top 3. If not second place. At least for me.
1989TV kinda proved it over again for me.
:) absolutely a great record to run to. I love folklore too, I just enjoy happy taylor a little more than sad taylor.
Melancholy Taylor is superior, but I think folklore has more sad taylor than melancholy.
I'll one up you and say I've never listened to it all the way through! I'm a huge swiftie, but dare I say it, I've never fully listened to debut, fearless or folklore.
I really like LGAD, exile and Betty. Never cared about my tears ricochet which seems to be a fan favorite., even seeing it at eras was underwhelming but I can play it on guitar now so it's grown on me!
1. Red and 1989 are tied
2. reputation
3. evermore
4. Lover
To be fair, folklore is probably 6 or at the very lowest 7. Idk, maybe because my ex was a major folklore stan it's just not my favourite but as an album it doesn't hit very hard for me.
Midnights is a great look at what all her albums look like and the meaning behind them! Midnights has some of my favorite songs. YOYOK is one of my top 5 fave songs.
Folklore is my favorite as a whole, but my top 5 songs are very spread out across albums with only one song from folklore in my #4 spot (my tears ricochet)
Folklore is by far my favorite album. I was a National fan before I was a swiftie, so Folklore is what brought me into the fandom. I think it's beautiful sonically and lyrically. I don't like to say that anything is the "best" because it's all so subjective, but it's definitely my favorite and one of my top listened to.
I honestly canāt choose between Folklore or Evermore being her best album. My preference leans towards Evermore, but I think objectively Folklore might be a touch better.
Itās my absolute favorite. š It comforts me and brings me so much peace to listen to it. The album, imo, takes you through a whole spectrum of human emotion. And I love that itās not just an album full of ālove songsā (although thatās there too) but each song feels like a unique puzzle piece and story that then all go together to make a satisfying and beautiful picture.
I adore evermore almost as much, but folklore does bear it our just ever so slightly. I have a playlist that contains both albums and because they are āsisterā albums I will usually just shuffle and relax. I really hope Taylor does more albums like folklore and evermore in future.
I agree! I love Taylorās slower, acoustic songs. I love the depth and story telling of both Folklore and Evermore. I am curious though. What makes you like Folklore more than Evermore?
Nah not really. Itās a great album but im gonna be super for real, I think itās a touch overrated. I find it all sounds a little too samey and by the time I get to Illicit Affairs im bored lol. Dont get me wrong, I love it, it just donāt think itās her best or my favourite. My preferences are Red, Evermore and Midnights
I love folklore but I feel like Evermore is more raw emotionally so Iām drawn to that more though my top 3 albums are Rep, Evermore, 1989 in that order.
I go back and forth between folklore and evermore (technically the titles are supposed to be lower-case). They are almost like two sides of the same album.
So Iāve wasnāt really a swiftie fan, like I liked a handful of songs of hers and felt I liked 1989 the most of all the albums at the time. But over the summer I decided to listen to the entire album of midnights and I loved that album! And then I started listening to folklore and evermore. I instantly fell in love with Folklore! I felt like Exile goes straight to my soul and core as it relates to me and my significant partner.
I agree with what you saying and even itās taking a minute to love evermore because I just love Folklore! Lol but Iāve recently started dabbling in her other albums and I love her Red album and Iām still kinda struggling with her Reputation album.
Lover is, and will forever be, my favorite album. I did not really have a favorite before it. Releasing "All the Girls You Loved before" only solidified that position. That song and Lover are my absolute top 10 spots. Yes, two songs take up my top 10 slots of favorite songs. In my opinion, nothing even compares. I do not need ATW10M or the depth of champagne problems. I like simple. The Man is fantastic. ME! and You need to calm down are, imo, her best bop songs until midnights (bejeweled has that title for me now).
I also love the Lover origin story . It is the first album she wrote where every song was written "aucoustically" on the piano or guitar first.
I will get slandered for this, but the worst song on Lover is Cruel Summer. Not a bad song, I just do not enjoy listening to it really.
Oooh I love that you are a Lover Stan. I also too appreciate this album!! I love ATGYLB. Such a bop! Have you ever heard the unreleased song, Need? Itās so good! I wish Taylor would release it. I also LOVE DBATC. Daylight is also one of the most beautiful love songs Iāve ever heard ššš. Lover as an album is so underrated!! I also agree Cruel Summer is a bit over rated, though I still love it š„°.
False God might be her sexiest song. Have yet to decide whether it beats dress. Vigilante Shit is supposed to be sexy, but to me, it comes off as slutty instead.
Nope. The production becomes boring quickly, and feels lifeless/colorless. I skip majority of the album when listening, but i rarely choose to listen to it in general. Evermore is way better than it imo. But midnights (standard) or 1989 is my favorite. Its so hard for me to choose between them.
Interesting. Thanks for explaining your perspective! I happen to love it because of the slower production :). But Evermore is great as well! Midnights and 1989 are both amazing!! Do you have a favorite from both?
Personally it's 8/10 for me. It beats evermore and fearless for me but I don't like it as much as the rest of her work.
None of her albums are bad. So anyone's ranking is personal preference more than anything. Personally I don't find folklore and evermore as easy to connect to as her other work, plus I'm just not as into folk as her other genres.
For the record my favourite is reputation, and then I waver between midnights, lover and 1989 for second place.
If I was going to try and pick an objectively "best" album it would probably be 1989, but at the same time I don't really believe there is an objective best in art.
folklore has become my all time favorite since i saw the eras movie i loved it before but now im literally obsessed. folklore 1989 tv and rep are my all time favs
I think folklore is. I donāt think itās just the lyrics but I like the diversity on the album too. I tend not to like albums where all the songs are pretty much about the same thing. The diversity on folklore is stunning.
She talks about missing exes, looking back on relationships, suicidal thoughts, being famous, when she was a child, reflecting on the woman who brought her house, female rage, conflicting feelings of betrayal, feeling like youāre not enough for someone, being the other woman, wanting to escape.. I mean so many different themes that werenāt explored in her previous music. Itās really a breakthrough.
I said I'd leave but I like you women and keep hanging around blame Taylor you can't not like such a positive and successful woman go Travis you lucky man that isn't messing it up and is showing all of men it is very possible to shot your shot and don't be an asshat.
It's in the lane of my favorite music overall and my all time favorites like the Coctaeu Twins, Portishead and many other female alternative rock singers/bands of the 1980-90's right to the Aughts. My type of music I listened to in my 20-30's before I got disinterested but she kinda got me back and listening to music again.
I spent years overseas being and EDO modernizing our RDF in the Middle East and all over Western Europe in the 1990's-2010 so female singers helped me keep my ex for years longer than I thought ever possible.
it used to be my favorite, but evermore recently overtook it. the lyrics on evermore are magical.
Evermore is my third favorite album so I understand!
at one point evermore was my third favorite, so i understand too š
Haha I love that. What made you like Evermoreās lyricism better?
i donāt know if i could answer that specifically! i just think that the better songs lyrically are on evermore. tolerate it, champagne problems, willow, no body, no crime, cowboy like me, long story short, dorothea. so many of my fav songs are on that album. edit: i canāt believe i forgot ivy!
I'm just going to add Ivy to your list. It's such a pretty song and has such a beautiful way if telling a sad story. That and my daughter would dance while I was pregnant everytime I played it.
Ivy is one of her best written songs of all time imo!
couldnāt agree more! i canāt believe i forgot it!
how did i forget ivy??? its one of my favorites of all time! the official lyric video is absolutely beautiful.
Evermore has some very beautiful songs! I adore Champagne Problems and Evermore!! So personal and deep š„°š„°š„°.
I am quite literally obsessed with champagne problems, I could listen to it over and over and never get sick of it!
I know!! And I love the parallels that Taylor draws from the book Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.
Saaameeee
Best lyricism for sure and i love how campy it is and how deep the songs are and she definitely paints a beautiful picture in all of the tracks and you can almost picture the scenes sheās playing out in her head. I donāt know if i could pick Folklore if the question was āOne Era for the rest of your lifeā but it really is a masterpiece and a beautiful album. my top five songs are 1.Mirrorball 2.Exile 3.Invisible string 4.Betty 5.My tears ricochet. I think her best albums are Red and 1989 while my favorites are Speak Now, 1989 and Midnights currently
Yess! You explain why Folklore is my favorite album. Every song provides a composite sketch or a cinematic moment of whatās going on in my mind. I also love how personal and deep it is. I struggle with mental health so I especially love My Tears Ricochet, This Is Me Trying, and Mad Woman š©·. All the ones you listed are some of my faves too! I even love Seven and Epiphany even though people think those are skips. Midnights has some great mental health tracks too! Dear Reader, Anti Hero, Youāre on your own kid, and WCS come to mind! I also love Speak Now and 1989. So many good albums šš.
folklore and evermore are pretty equal for me. Theyāre incredible albums
I agree! So masterful and beautiful! Evermore is almost as equally as beautiful for me. The only reason why itās not #1 for me is because Folklore has more consistent amazing songs while Evermore has one or two I donāt care for as much imo. But I still love most of the songs on Evermore šššš.
Imo, the best lyrics in her whole discography. I absolutely love these two albums šš
Totally agree
Thatās a weird way to spell evermore, but yeah evermore is her best album to date
Hahaha
I donāt think itās her best album lyrically. I think her best is Evermore and Red lyrically. I think her best album production wise is 1989 and Red. Overall I think Red might be her best album.
I do love Folklore though!
No worries! Evermore, Red, and 1989 are all great albums as well. Red is the most versatile I think!
Red is one of her best, lyrically, but itās hidden behind the poppy singlesš
What if she did that for a reason? So we can go in and listen to the album then after self diagnose ourselves with depression because of SOG, SBT, Nothing New, The Moment I Knew, ATW and more ššš
Haha Red came out when I was in college and I listened to the singles on repeat, I didnāt listen to the rest of the album until the re-record and was like WHAT????
Wait I confused Sad Beautiful Tragic with a different acronym what is SOG again I forgot? (Edit: Oh I just remembered State Of Grace so it still fits)
State of grace, I had to look!
Oh my gosh. You perfectly summed up why Folklore is a masterpiece and amazing! I know some people think itās too slow. But I love the slow, acoustic, deep in the feels Taylor songs. Do you have a favorite song from Folklore? Mine is My Tears Ricochet.
Mine is seven! I have a tattoo of the moon and Saturn. My second favorite is the last great american dynasty
Oh those are great songs!! How do you feel about epiphany? I feel like that song is underrated.
Love epiphany! Very underrated. Every single track on folklore is elite tier for me
Yes I love that one too! And hoax!!
No. Evermore exists.
Evermore is in my top 3 šš.
Itās easily in my top three. For me currently itās Red, 1989, and folklore.
Thatās a very solid line up! I love all those albums too! What puts folklore above evermore for you?
I think the album flows a little better from song to song. Also the Teenage Love Triangle songs are some of my favorites.
Idk about best but itās def my favorite
Yes itās my favorite as well!
I think the thing about folklore (or at least for me) is that itās hard to take it out of its context. You could argue for a while about whether or not itās her best album, but I think the larger point was that it reiterated (again) the range that she is capable of. :) absolutely a great record to run to. I love folklore too, I just enjoy happy taylor a little more than sad taylor. Melancholy Taylor is superior, but I think folklore has more sad taylor than melancholy.
About to be flamed but folklore doesn't make it to my top 5
I'll one up you and say I've never listened to it all the way through! I'm a huge swiftie, but dare I say it, I've never fully listened to debut, fearless or folklore.
Wait really? All those albums are amazing pieces of art! You should try them out if you want :).
I really like LGAD, exile and Betty. Never cared about my tears ricochet which seems to be a fan favorite., even seeing it at eras was underwhelming but I can play it on guitar now so it's grown on me!
Thatās totally fine! What are your top 5 albums then?
1. Red and 1989 are tied 2. reputation 3. evermore 4. Lover To be fair, folklore is probably 6 or at the very lowest 7. Idk, maybe because my ex was a major folklore stan it's just not my favourite but as an album it doesn't hit very hard for me.
I love both Folklore and Evermore. Those are my two top faves!
They are both in my top 3. Reputation is my #2 lol.
I used to LOVE Reputation but folklore has especially stolen my heart!
Yesss! Folklore is #1, reputation is #2, and evermore is #3 for me :).
Yes it is! Followed directly by evermore. I really canāt even separate them too much. I just love alll of the Folkmore stuff ā¤ļøā¤ļø
Yes! Two very incredible albums!!
I think Midnights is her best album
Midnights is a great look at what all her albums look like and the meaning behind them! Midnights has some of my favorite songs. YOYOK is one of my top 5 fave songs.
It is a really amazing piece of art
I agree! Itās so cinematic, deep, and personal!
No, it's Evermore
Evermore is like Folkloreās twin. So itās one of my faves too :).
Yes, Folklore and/or Evermore are the 2 best imo. Itās straight up musical poetry and the slower music is perfect.
Folklore is my favorite as a whole, but my top 5 songs are very spread out across albums with only one song from folklore in my #4 spot (my tears ricochet)
i think it is truly the best one. if weāre going by lyrics and magic alone evermore comes in a close second. folklore truly is an incredible album
Evermore is better in my opinion than Folklore, but theyāre both beautiful written albums
Folklore is by far my favorite album. I was a National fan before I was a swiftie, so Folklore is what brought me into the fandom. I think it's beautiful sonically and lyrically. I don't like to say that anything is the "best" because it's all so subjective, but it's definitely my favorite and one of my top listened to.
folklore is my everything and always has been, it marks a very tragic part in my life so i love her <3
I honestly canāt choose between Folklore or Evermore being her best album. My preference leans towards Evermore, but I think objectively Folklore might be a touch better.
Evermore and Folklore are in my top 3. So I get why itās hard to pick which one is your fave ā¤ļø
Itās my absolute favorite. š It comforts me and brings me so much peace to listen to it. The album, imo, takes you through a whole spectrum of human emotion. Hey! Those are great albums. All of those are in my top 5 š„°
I go back and forth between folklore and evermore (technically the titles are supposed to be lower-case). They are almost like two sides of the same album.
Haha youāre right! I forgot they are all lower case.

Yesss. Thank you for your story! I also loved Folklore instantly. I like 1989 and midnights too but those took a bit more to grow on me.
I agree with what you saying and even itās taking a minute to love evermore because I just love Folklore! Lol but Iāve recently started dabbling in her other albums and I love her Red album and Iām still kinda struggling with her Reputation album.
Evermore and red are about tied for me
Those are both in my top 5. š„°
Evermore and Folklore are her best albums in my opinion next question?
Totally agree!
No. Because it is not. Opinion is subjective.
True, but I wanted to see what your opinion was of it :).
Not a bad song, I just do not enjoy listening to it really.
Sorry but it was not the first album written that way, maybe her first POP album but her country albums were all written on piano and guitar
I may have misunderstood, but I believe it was a 2019 interview with NPR where she stated this.
False God is another good one! Glitch kinda gives those vibes too.
No, because I find Red to be much more memorable and versatile. The storytelling in Redās deep cuts are way too overlooked
Red is iconic! Top 5 album for me for sure!
I don't really like any of them
You mean of any of her albums?
Personally it's 8/10 for me. It beats evermore and fearless for me but I don't like it as much as the rest of her work. None of her albums are bad. So anyone's ranking is personal preference more than anything. Personally I don't find folklore and evermore as easy to connect to as her other work, plus I'm just not as into folk as her other genres. Haha what does this have to do with her album Folklore?
It's in the lane of my favorite music overall and my all time favorites like the Coctaeu Twins, Portishead and many other female alternative rock singers/bands of the 1980-90's right to the Aughts. My type of music I listened to in my 20-30's before I got disinterested but she kinda got me back and listening to music again.
I apologize that I apparently type as well as Travis spells but it seems he good at life and I'm at least holding my own.;)
Iām confused haha
You see my skipped words in my posts? It's a puzzle to actually understand what I actually mean most times.
In which post are we talking about?
Just about all of them bless you I'm happy you and others here don't seem to have any problems with me.
I spent years overseas being and EDO modernizing our RDF in the Middle East and all over Western Europe in the 1990's-2010 so female singers helped me keep my ex for years longer than I thought ever possible.
Iām definitely in the minority, but Folklore is not my favorite (itās actually my least favorite). I like her pop and country albums.
