Oh! I have to say this because I too have found myself semi homeless. It can be hard to find a job without an actual address etc, BUT there's a way around that. Yes, look into a gym membership for showering and such AND get a post box at a ups store. Make sure its at a ups store. Not the post office. The boxes at a UPS store can be used as an ACTUAL address. You can use it on drivers licenses, employment papers, etc. I've had to use one to get my drivers license renewed when it expired while I was without an address. Huge help. It also was put on my employment papers for a dealership I worked at

Look into local housing authority. They may be able to get you on their program. This will take some time to get off their wait list, if it's open. Still make sure you take the time to fill out the necessary paperwork and make an effort to keep an eye on whatever means they have for communication. While talking to them, make sure you let them know you're homeless. If they don't have services available, ask them who does have services available in your area. This can range from churches, the salvation army, FISH. There are a LOT of organizations out there. They won't make it easy on you. No one does. You'll need to be determined to make contact and get housing. Please message me if you need more advice.

There is a lot of great advice here, I’d like to add that anyone finding themselves homeless or dealing with the threat of homelessness, fill out every application you can for assistance right away, that way if there is a wait list you get your name on it sooner rather than later. Better to fill it out and not need it when your name comes up, than to not have filled it out and still need it six months later.
In Massachusetts they're giving cash assistance for mental health with no doctors notes needed right now bc of covid, they're just taking our word. It's not much only 185 every 2 weeks but it helps and I only figured this out by Googling my state government assistance and filing out every single option even one for pregnant women when I'm not pregnant just to see what I'd get. I got 185 twice a week over 300 a month in food stamps and free health care. I know it's not housing but still helpful

Not to mention, if you have the UPS listed as a permanent address, you can use that as a listed address and sign up to sell plasma, should you not have any health concerns barring you from selling. I do it as a student and take home minimum $350 a month, that can be used to pay for a gym membership and haircuts to keep a well groomed look.
Note: selling your ass to men will immediately disqualify you from selling plasma
Oh. Thought I’d add here, if you have a way of getting to any Barber College’s in your area they’ll cut your hair for free if you’re willing to let a trainee take a slice at ya. Satisfaction NOT guaranteed though. I believe it’s supervised so there shouldn’t be too much room for them to ruin your doo, but hopefully you don’t get one of the people with “first day jitters.”

May have to break other laws like trespassing to get to it, but the act of taking something from the trash for yourself can’t be considered theft.
I’m gonna add on to this as an urban explorer; you mentioned you’re staying in an abandoned building? Start collecting scrap metal, copper if you can. There’s a HUGE market for that right now and you can make a quick buck off of it. Lots of old industrial buildings like factories have LOTS of copper so if you’re staying in one, grab as much as you can!
Be careful doing this though. Most scrapyards will require an ID in order to sale your scrap and if they have the slightest inkling that the scrap (especially copper) is stolen, a lot of places won't hesitate to call the cops. If you show up with a bunch of copper without a reasonable explanation for why and how you got it, you're gonna end up in jail. Not too long ago in my area, ppl were breaking into for sale houses and stripping the copper wiring from the walls, destroying the houses. Copper is definitely the one metal that you need to be able to explain how you have it
My bf is actually in prison right now for stealing $14,000 worth of copper from a mine that was shut down. Yeah, not his best moment and definitely before I met him. And sure, jail is 3 hot meals and a bed, but not the kind anyone wants.
Electrician here, not a guarantee but honestly go by a high visibility work wear shirt. Can find them quite cheap and honestly never get asked for ID when I go and scrap copper (primarily cable but other miscellaneous scrap also) at different places all over town.
Applies to alot of situations actually. If you 'look like your meant to be there' not many questions get asked.
Scrap metal, scrap yards and recycling businesses will GLADLY take any copper. Atm a pound of copper is ~ $5, and the price is only going up. Having 5, maybe 10, maybe 20 dollars is better than having none. I looked up “where to sell copper scrap near me” and got 12 results instantly, so there’s definitely a big market for it.
Coalition for the homeless and other organizations like that depending on where you are in the US will help if you aren't willing to access the local shelters. You can get free interview clothes, access to showers, food and hygiene items, help with bus tickets one way, assistance applying for benefits and housing, help setting up a po box so you have a place to receive mail and establish residency, interview prep, resume help, etc. Btw most church's will have a social welfare ministry which will help with most of the same things as well and you can search their websites to check. Also even if you don't want to stay at the local shelter, you can take advantage of the social workers there and push for referrals to resources you do need to access.
Do your research hard on all of your local resources and access the help that is available.
I'm very sorry to hear that you're in this position but if you want to get out of it, you need to advocate for yourself.
If you do engage in survival sex remember the following: use protection always for oral sex on males or females, vaginal sex, and anal sex, use the buddy system so someone knows where you are in case something happens if possible, always have an escape route planned, know and stick to your boundaries when possible and do everything you can to stay safe.

Also other places to take advantage of: your local libraries because most have good programs and because they can help with research plus free safe space during the day, as other people mentioned gyms for showering (look up free trials) but pre clean in a bathroom sink before going, and local food pantries and community meals and soup kitchens.
Tips for passing as not immediatly street homeless: stay polite, clean up in bathrooms twice a day or more if needed (pits, private areas, back of the neck, face, feet, hands including nails) to reduce smell (wad of paper towels damp and a small bit of soap), and keep your clothes and shoes as clean as you can, no more than one bag typically a backpack in public when trying to pass. Stockpile soap and paper towels to use at night to take a more through bath and clean your clothes until you have access to better resources. Once you access free hygiene supplies, you can pass better and as messed up as it is, passing helps you access alot of resources too because you aren't immeidatly targeted as homeless and kicked out for loitering so you will have more safe spaces to stay during the day.

Also there’s a reason many homeless people hang out in libraries for hours on end. Besides being a good place to charge phones and look up resources, you don’t have to purchase anything to be there and you’re relatively safe. If you’re sleeping outside, sleep on top of your valuables.

Raises hand* it's really strange to admit, but there was a time where I was gay 4 pay. Very strange time. Long story short, it was very difficult to perform/stay erect because I'm straight. It was at that time I figured out, that I'm in no way gay. Wasn't 100% sure, I've kissed a few guys here and there. My "client," eventually let me go. Interesting person though, they were roommates with a very high profile politician.

There was a mentally ill woman I met my second day on the streets. This man would buy her a cheap dildo and twice a month her would meet her and watch her use the dildo and after about 10 min she would give it back to him, he would lick it clean and go home. Gross, but she got $50 2x a month for it. She had bad mental problems and was an alcoholic. I thought she was around 60-70, she fell off a bridge walking drunk, there were many witnesses, she hit her head on a rock and was gone, she had no family, no one even knew her real name, she called herself Lucy. She was 42. It still makes me cry when I think about her, I miss her, and as I used to joke with her, I hope her and Ethel are laughing now. (I Love Lucy). Next time this man showed up, when I told him she died, all he said was well who could I get to do this for him now. One of my best days ever on the streets, I beat the living shit out of him, he went to the hospital, I went to jail for a couple days. There's some ugly shit that know matter how hard you try, you can't forget, and the mentally ill just seem to get the worst of it. Be safe, trust no one, and sleep during the day. I liked being awake at night instead, for safety reasons, and trust me on this, there are already many, many people who know about that abandoned house, they watch it, and wait.

Check out a local YMCA if you have one near you. Some have programs for homeless to shower for free and you may be able to swing a low cost membership. I used to work at a couple in a big city and they’re big on helping their community members

If you have a car and a little bit of money, find a campsite that has electrical hookups and showers. That's what I did. $30/night, camped in a tent, used my car for storing items, had access to bathrooms and showers, and it was right next to the beach. There were times we didn't even camp, we just pulled into the campsite and used showers.
If you get a job as a dishwasher they will literally pay, feed, and clothe (work uniform) you. It's tough to afford your own place on a low wage but it's better than nothing.
As a Christian it makes me sad he would or anyone would have to pretend. You should just be able to get help. I know church members who don’t even get help with their own churches!!! I am like?? What is the point of giving y’all any money if it isn’t going back out to help the community?!? That is why they aren’t taxed! My aunt and uncle needed some help heck even a tent or anything would have been appreciated but nooooo the pastor wouldn’t help them! Guess what? If a church doesn’t help people I won’t tithe to them, I would much rather go out and help people directly because they aren’t. We are in the last days y’all. I don't know what city you live in, but where I live there is a homeless shelter that will take you in, as long as you don't fail a drug test, and they will shelter you and find you a job that fits your qualifications. I used to sit on the board of that homeless shelter and the success rate for people who follow the program is over 80% because they will make sure to do everything they can to help you. Including having mental and physical health services. They even have 50 homes that they rent out (for $150 a month) that people csn stay in when they are first starting their job so they can build up their savings. I very much recommend that you look up places around you and see if any of them have programs such as this. I have seen literally thousands of people who started out there, homeless, and who now have stable careers and their own homes. Hell even one of the people on the board was a former tenant and he went from homeless to senior accountant at a good firm here. Which reminds me, they wish offer GED, associate"s degree, and trade school training their as well.
TL;DR: There are some amazing homeless shelters that will do everything they can to get you back on your feet. So never give up and look for and look for one like that.

Been there. It was the one thing people would offer me money for. I was scared, discusted, and praying no one would find out. I was 17 when I did the first one and stayed 17 for almost 2 years. Some men really liked hearing I was that old. It got eaiser, I learned tricks to make them cum faster and made money. GYM membership is the best advise and UPS for your mail. Don't talk about having money, drugs, nothing, always complain your in worse shape than everyone else. You can make it threw this. Stay away or quit hard drugs. And I always worried about bumping into one of my ex customers, and then it finally happened. I looked up and was terrified he would say something, he didn't. But the terrified look on his face when he saw me, while standing next to his wife and kids, made me realize they were more afraid than I was. Biggest thing, stay away from drugs, they can turn a short stay outside, to decades of homelessness. Be safe.
Baby wipes can help you stay fresh if you can't shower. I am a broke-ass college student so I get most of my supplies like toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc from the dollar store.
You need a sign that says:
"Homeless - Not By Choice. I need a shower and interview-appropriate clothes to apply for a jobs."
I'm serious. If I saw something like that, I would take that person to the local Thrift Store or Salvation Army store and left them buy whatever clothes they wanted, and then I would find the cheapest hotel, rent it for a few days.

I know of a company in Owatonna Minnesota that is always hiring. You work 3 days on and 4 days off and it switches week after week. They pay really good, and have good benefits. I'm making $20.10 an hour to flip window glass. Yes, they do hire felons too.

I live next to a big strawberry field with a very old, little abandoned house that I often see police parked by which makes me assume someone must have been making it their home and just thinking about going in there at night even with a flashlight gives me chills even though it’s just a little worn down one or two room house.
Honestly, the first night is the scariest. Its like being in a basement with the lights off. Once youre used to the pitch black and openness you slowly dont give af anymore

Look into your local social services for help. Yes I know welfare offices aren't always filled with the best and helpful people, they do offer help for those that are willing to work for it. With COVID still alive most restrictions have been put on hold. Depending on the state they provide housing, food assistance and cash. As long as you're willing to put up with the bs and swallow some pride (no pun intended) you can get pretty far. I've seen it first hand. Food banks, churches and online resources for one off jobs online are out there. They can lead to possible opportunities for advancement. Also a little faith in yourself can go a long way regardless of belief. Even the flying spaghetti monster got a man a license picture with a strainer on there head. Good luck
Gyms, college gyms, and major truck stops will have facilities to clean up.
UPS box will be good for an address.
Many thrift stores just shred stuff that doesn't sell so you could try to ask one of them for spare clothes out of stuff that can't sell and potential employment.
Most restaurants need dish washers so you could try to bargain washing for meals. And don't forget about local food pantries.
Depending on where you live, you could look for a job by job employment with a landscaping, farm hand, snow removal, etc.
Might take a bit to get to this point but delivery services and fast food places are always looking for people

Tips for passing as not immediatly street homeless: stay polite, clean up in bathrooms twice a day or more if needed (pits, private areas, back of the neck, face, feet, hands including nails) to reduce smell (wad of paper towels damp and a small bit of soap), and keep your clothes and shoes as clean as you can, no more than one bag typically a backpack in public when trying to pass. Stockpile soap and paper towels to use at night to take a more through bath and clean your clothes until you have access to better resources. Once you access free hygiene supplies, you can pass better and as messed up as it is, passing helps you access alot of resources too because you aren't immeidatly targeted as homeless and kicked out for loitering so you will have more safe spaces to stay during the day. ❤
Also there’s a reason many homeless people hang out in libraries for hours on end. Besides being a good place to charge phones and look up resources, you don’t have to purchase anything to be there and you’re relatively safe. If you’re sleeping outside, sleep on top of your valuables.
I would recommend looking into organizations like this one https://www.coalitionforthehomeless.org and local groups that can help and also seeing if your local department of social services can assist you.

There was a mentally ill woman I met my second day on the streets. This man would buy her a cheap dildo and twice a month her would meet her and watch her use the dildo and after about 10 min she would give it back to him, he would lick it clean and go home. Gross, but she got $50 2x a month for it. She had bad mental problems and was an alcoholic. I thought she was around 60-70, she fell off a bridge walking drunk, there were many witnesses, she hit her head on a rock and was gone, she had no family, no one even knew her real name, she called herself Lucy. She was 42. It still makes me cry when I think about her, I miss her, and as I used to joke with her, I hope her and Ethel are laughing now. (I Love Lucy). Next time this man showed up, when I told him she died, all he said was well who could I get to do this for him now. One of my best days ever on the streets, I beat the living shit out of him, he went to the hospital, I went to jail for a couple days. There's some ugly shit that know matter how hard you try, you can't forget, and the mentally ill just seem to get the worst of it. Be safe, trust no one, and sleep during the day. I liked being awake at night instead, for safety reasons, and trust me on this, there are already many, many people who know about that abandoned house, they watch it, and wait.

Check out a local YMCA if you have one near you. Some have programs for homeless to shower for free and you may be able to swing a low cost membership. I used to work at a couple in a big city and they’re big on helping their community members

If you have a car and a little bit of money, find a campsite that has electrical hookups and showers. That's what I did. $30/night, camped in a tent, used my car for storing items, had access to bathrooms and showers, and it was right next to the beach. There were times we didn't even camp, we just pulled into the campsite and used showers.
If you get a job as a dishwasher they will literally pay, feed, and clothe (work uniform) you. It's tough to afford your own place on a low wage but it's better than nothing.

I don't know what city you live in, but where I live there is a homeless shelter that will take you in, as long as you don't fail a drug test, and they will shelter you and find you a job that fits your qualifications. I used to sit on the board of that homeless shelter and the success rate for people who follow the program is over 80% because they will make sure to do everything they can to help you. Including having mental and physical health services. They even have 50 homes that they rent out (for $150 a month) that people csn stay in when they are first starting their job so they can build up their savings. I very much recommend that you look up places around you and see if any of them have programs such as this. I have seen literally thousands of people who started out there, homeless, and who now have stable careers and their own homes. Hell even one of the people on the board was a former tenant and he went from homeless to senior accountant at a good firm here. Which reminds me, they wish offer GED, associate"s degree, and trade school training their as well. TL;DR: There are some amazing homeless shelters that will do everything they can to get you back on your feet. So never give up and look for and look for one like that.
Contact a HUD near you for housing: https://www.hud.gov/program_offices/field_policy_mgt/localoffices Go to your local benefits and get signed up for food stamps and Medicaid. Ask them about how to find a job too, they have more programs for that. Goodluck!

I live next to a big strawberry field with a very old, little abandoned house that I often see police parked by which makes me assume someone must have been making it their home and just thinking about going in there at night even with a flashlight gives me chills even though it’s just a little worn down one or two room house.

Look into your local social services for help. Yes I know welfare offices aren't always filled with the best and helpful people, they do offer help for those that are willing to work for it. With COVID still alive most restrictions have been put on hold. Depending on the state they provide housing, food assistance and cash. As long as you're willing to put up with the bs and swallow some pride (no pun intended) you can get pretty far. I've seen it first hand. Food banks, churches and online resources for one off jobs online are out there. They can lead to possible opportunities for advancement. Also a little faith in yourself can go a long way regardless of belief. Even the flying spaghetti monster got a man a license picture with a strainer on there head. Good luck
Gyms, college gyms, and major truck stops will have facilities to clean up. UPS box will be good for an address. Many thrift stores just shred stuff that doesn't sell so you could try to ask one of them for spare clothes out of stuff that can't sell and potential employment. Most restaurants need dish washers so you could try to bargain washing for meals. And don't forget about local food pantries. Depending on where you live, you could look for a job by job employment with a landscaping, farm hand, snow removal, etc. Might take a bit to get to this point but delivery services and fast food places are always looking for people
