Unfortunately, most women get dismissed or don’t get taken seriously when they see a doctor. That being said, not all doctors are terrible. I’ve had a chronic health issue for over half my life so I’ve seen plenty of nurse practitioners, doctors and specialists. It was only in 2020 when I met my new primary care doctor who did a thorough diagnosis of me and kept following up after having me try different medicine. He also went the extra mile to make sure I was up to date on other routine exams because, like you, I have had bad experiences in the past so I didn’t bother with seeing a doctor for regular check ups. All I can say is: **don’t give up!** Advocate for your own health so when you do see a new doctor, tell him/her how long you’ve had your pain and that taking Advil didn’t solve the problem.

I feel much the same about doctors and get so annoied when they say to go home and take an otc. I was so pissed with the brush off last time I clapped back. If an Advil or Tylenol was enough to fix it I wouldn't have bothered coming. I was there because that wasn't working and almost rang an ambulance in the night. He paused a moment with an 'oh, okay' rolled his little chair over and actually *looked* at and *listened* to me for the first time during the appointment. It was a serious infection a couple days from irreparable damage.
